聞如是:
一時,佛在舍衛國精舍,時有國王名波斯匿,夜夢十事:一者、三釜羅,兩邊釜沸氣交往來,不入中央空釜中。二者、王夢見馬口亦食,尻亦食。三者、見大樹生花。四者、見小樹生果。五者、見一人切繩,人後有羊,羊主食繩。六者、見胡虜坐金銀床上以食金銀器。七者、見大牛母還從犢子𡂡乳。八者、見群牛從四面鳴走來相趍欲鬥,當合未合不知牛處。九者、見大陂池水,中央濁四邊清。十者、見溪水正赤。王夢即覺,恐怖畏亡國及身。明日即召左右群臣及諸異道人:「我昨夜夢見十事,誰能解之?」有異道人言:「吾能解之,恐王聞之即不樂耳。」王言:「便說,如卿所知。」異道人言:「王當亡國及身。」王大驚怖不厭不,異道人言:「可厭,當殺太子及所重夫人,及其庫藏皆燒用祠天,王能爾者可得無他。」
王聞道人語,愁怪驚愕憂亦不樂,卻入齋室思惟是事。王有夫人名曰摩利,就到齋室中問:「王何以晝入齋室,顏色不和憂乃爾,誰有過於王?」王對曰:「汝莫問是事,但汝怖怯耳,非汝所知。」夫人說言:「我是王之體,給緩當相告言。」王便為夫人說言:「我昨夜夢見十事,吾問道人解夢如是,甚惶怖,不知何告?」夫人言:「莫愁憂也,譬如有人買金,磨著石上好惡自見,今佛近在精舍,可往問佛,災怪悉可知矣
現代漢語譯本 我聽聞是這樣的: 一時,佛在舍衛國精舍。當時有一位國王名叫波斯匿,夜裡做了十個夢:第一個夢是,看到三個鍋,兩邊的鍋沸騰著,熱氣互相交錯,卻不進入中間空著的鍋里。第二個夢是,國王夢見馬的嘴和屁股都在吃東西。第三個夢是,看到大樹開花。第四個夢是,看到小樹結果。第五個夢是,看到一個人在割繩子,人後面跟著一隻羊,羊的主人正在吃繩子。第六個夢是,看到胡人坐在金銀床上,用金銀器皿吃飯。第七個夢是,看到大母牛反過來從牛犢那裡吸奶。第八個夢是,看到一群牛從四面八方鳴叫著跑來,互相追逐想要打鬥,但將要合在一起時又不知牛在哪裡。第九個夢是,看到一個大池塘,中間的水渾濁,四周的水清澈。第十個夢是,看到溪水是紅色的。國王做夢后立刻醒來,感到恐懼,害怕國家和自身滅亡。第二天,他召集左右大臣和各種外道人士,問道:『我昨晚做了十個夢,誰能解釋這些夢?』有一個外道人士說:『我能解釋,恐怕大王聽了會不高興。』國王說:『說吧,如你所知。』外道人士說:『大王將要亡國和喪命。』國王非常驚恐,感到不快,外道人士說:『可以消除,應當殺死太子和您所寵愛的夫人,以及燒燬所有庫藏用來祭祀天神,大王如果能這樣做,就可以避免災禍。』 國王聽了道人的話,感到憂愁、怪異、驚愕,憂慮而不快樂,於是回到齋室思考這件事。國王有一位夫人名叫摩利,她來到齋室問:『大王為何白天進入齋室,臉色不好,如此憂愁,誰有比大王更尊貴的?』國王回答說:『你不要問這件事,只會讓你害怕,不是你所能理解的。』夫人說:『我是大王的身體,請您慢慢告訴我。』國王便為夫人講述:『我昨晚做了十個夢,我問了道人,他這樣解釋我的夢,我非常惶恐,不知道該怎麼辦?』夫人說:『不要憂愁,譬如有人買金子,在石頭上磨一下,好壞自然就顯現出來,現在佛陀就在附近的精舍,可以去問佛陀,災禍和怪異就都可以知道了。』
English version The Sutra of King Pasenadi's Ten Dreams Spoken by the Buddha Appended with a Record from the Western Jin Dynasty Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was in the Jeta Grove Monastery in Shravasti. At that time, there was a king named Pasenadi who had ten dreams during the night: The first dream was of three cauldrons, with the two side cauldrons boiling and the steam intermingling, but not entering the empty cauldron in the middle. The second dream was that the king saw a horse eating with both its mouth and its rear. The third dream was of seeing a large tree blossoming. The fourth dream was of seeing a small tree bearing fruit. The fifth dream was of seeing a person cutting a rope, with a sheep behind the person, and the sheep's owner eating the rope. The sixth dream was of seeing barbarians sitting on gold and silver beds, eating with gold and silver utensils. The seventh dream was of seeing a large cow turning around to suckle milk from its calf. The eighth dream was of seeing a herd of cows running from all directions, bellowing and chasing each other, wanting to fight, but when they were about to come together, the cows were nowhere to be seen. The ninth dream was of seeing a large pond, with the water in the center being murky and the water around the edges being clear. The tenth dream was of seeing a stream with red water. The king woke up immediately after the dream, feeling terrified and fearing the destruction of his kingdom and himself. The next day, he summoned his ministers and various non-Buddhist practitioners, asking: 'I had ten dreams last night, who can interpret them?' One non-Buddhist practitioner said: 'I can interpret them, but I am afraid the king will not be pleased to hear it.' The king said: 'Speak, as you know.' The non-Buddhist practitioner said: 'The king will lose his kingdom and his life.' The king was greatly alarmed and displeased. The non-Buddhist practitioner said: 'It can be averted. You should kill the crown prince and your beloved consort, and burn all the treasures in the storehouses to offer sacrifices to the gods. If the king can do this, he can avoid disaster.' Upon hearing the practitioner's words, the king felt worried, strange, and astonished, and was troubled and unhappy. He then returned to his meditation chamber to contemplate this matter. The king had a consort named Mallika, who came to the meditation chamber and asked: 'Why has the king entered the meditation chamber during the day, with such an unwell and worried expression? Who is more honorable than the king?' The king replied: 'Do not ask about this matter, it will only frighten you, it is not something you can understand.' The consort said: 'I am the king's body, please tell me slowly.' The king then told his consort: 'I had ten dreams last night, and I asked a practitioner to interpret them, and he interpreted them like this. I am very frightened and do not know what to do.' The consort said: 'Do not worry. It is like someone buying gold, and when they rub it on a stone, its quality will naturally be revealed. Now the Buddha is nearby in the monastery, you can go and ask the Buddha, and the disasters and strange occurrences will all be known.'

王明日即召左右賢臣數千餘人,來詣佛所稽首佛足,王言:「我昨夜所夢十事,愿佛為我解說之。」佛告王言:「慎莫愁憂也!王所夢者乃是後世變現耳。」
佛言:「王夢見三釜羅,兩邊釜沸氣交往來,不入中央空釜中者,後世人不復供給貧窮親里及諸孤獨,兩富自相饋遺,王夢見是一事者,正為是耳。王夢見馬口亦食,尻亦食者,後世大臣長吏,廩食于官復食於民,曲直者亦食,王夢見二事者,正為是耳。王夢見大樹生花者,後世人年未滿三十,頭當生白髮,王夢見三事者,正為是耳。王夢見小樹生果者,後世女人年未滿十五當行嫁抱兒,不知慚恥,王夢見四事者,正為是耳。王夢見一人切繩,人後有羊,羊主食繩者,後世女人,夫當從役若行賈販,婦在其後將男子與共同房,食啖夫財,王夢見五事者,正為是耳。王夢胡虜好金銀床上以食金銀器者,後世人貴者當賤,賤者當貴,在上坐食食飲重味,君子食糟糠,小人食粳糧,王夢見六事者,正為是耳。王夢見大牛還從犢子𡂡乳者,後世人母當爲女作媒,將他男子與女同房,母守門戶,撿取財物以自濟活,王夢見七事者,正為是耳。王夢見群牛從四面鳴走來相趣欲鬥,當合未合不知牛處者,後世貪淫多畜數婦,王及臣民長者皆大歡喜,當來今世當爾不爾,須臾之間云便解散,爾時顧見其怪,欲令人畏天地之禁,解不復貪淫,守妻慈心除之妻害,王夢見八事者,正為是耳。王夢見大陂池水,中央濁四邊清者,後世人在國中不敬長老,當敬邊國少年,王夢見九事者,正為是耳
國王明日立即召集左右賢臣數千人,來到佛陀所在之處,向佛陀的腳稽首。國王說:『我昨夜夢見了十件事,希望佛陀為我解說。』佛陀告訴國王說:『不要憂愁!你所夢見的乃是後世的變現罷了。』 佛陀說:『國王夢見三個鍋,兩邊的鍋沸騰著,熱氣互相交錯,卻不進入中央空鍋中,這是後世的人不再供養貧窮的親戚和孤獨的人,而是富人之間互相饋贈。國王夢見這件事,正是為此。國王夢見馬的嘴和屁股都在吃東西,這是後世的大臣和官吏,在官府領取俸祿,又從百姓那裡搜刮,正直的人也受其害。國王夢見這兩件事,正是為此。國王夢見大樹開花,這是後世的人不到三十歲,頭上就會長出白髮。國王夢見這三件事,正是為此。國王夢見小樹結果,這是後世的女子不到十五歲就出嫁生子,不知羞恥。國王夢見這四件事,正是為此。國王夢見一個人割繩子,人後面跟著一隻羊,羊的主人吃繩子,這是後世的女子,丈夫去服役或做買賣,妻子卻在後面和別的男子同房,吃丈夫的錢財。國王夢見這五件事,正是為此。國王夢見胡人喜歡用金銀床和金銀器皿吃飯,這是後世的人,尊貴的人會變得卑賤,卑賤的人會變得尊貴,在上位的吃著美味佳餚,君子卻吃著糟糠,小人卻吃著精米。國王夢見這六件事,正是為此。國王夢見大牛反過來從牛犢那裡吸奶,這是後世的母親會為女兒做媒,把別的男子和女兒安排在一起,母親卻守著門戶,搜刮財物來養活自己。國王夢見這七件事,正是為此。國王夢見一群牛從四面八方鳴叫著跑來,互相追逐想要打鬥,但又沒有打起來,不知道牛在哪裡,這是後世的人貪圖淫慾,蓄養很多妻妾,國王和臣民長者都非常高興,將來今世會這樣嗎?過了一會兒,云就消散了,這時看到這種怪異的現象,是爲了讓人畏懼天地的禁忌,解除貪淫之心,守護妻子,慈愛之心,消除妻子帶來的禍害。國王夢見這八件事,正是為此。國王夢見大池塘的水,中央渾濁,四周清澈,這是後世的人在國家裡不尊敬年長的人,卻尊敬邊境的年輕人。國王夢見這九件事,正是為此。
The king immediately summoned several thousand virtuous ministers and officials, who came to where the Buddha was and bowed their heads to the Buddha's feet. The king said, 'Last night I dreamt of ten things, and I wish the Buddha would explain them to me.' The Buddha told the king, 'Do not worry! What you dreamt of are the manifestations of the future world.' The Buddha said, 'The king dreamt of three cauldrons, with the two side cauldrons boiling and their steam intermingling, but not entering the empty cauldron in the center. This means that in the future, people will no longer provide for poor relatives and the lonely, but rather the rich will give gifts to each other. The king's dream of this one thing is precisely for this reason. The king dreamt of a horse eating with both its mouth and its rear, which means that in the future, ministers and officials will receive salaries from the government and also exploit the people, and even the upright will suffer. The king's dream of these two things is precisely for this reason. The king dreamt of a large tree blossoming, which means that in the future, people will have white hair before they reach thirty years old. The king's dream of these three things is precisely for this reason. The king dreamt of a small tree bearing fruit, which means that in the future, women will marry and bear children before they are fifteen years old, without any sense of shame. The king's dream of these four things is precisely for this reason. The king dreamt of a person cutting a rope, with a sheep following behind, and the sheep's owner eating the rope. This means that in the future, when a woman's husband goes to serve in the military or do business, the wife will have relations with another man, and spend her husband's money. The king's dream of these five things is precisely for this reason. The king dreamt of barbarians enjoying gold and silver beds and eating with gold and silver utensils, which means that in the future, the noble will become lowly, and the lowly will become noble. Those in power will eat rich and flavorful foods, while gentlemen will eat chaff, and commoners will eat fine rice. The king's dream of these six things is precisely for this reason. The king dreamt of a large cow turning around to suckle milk from its calf, which means that in the future, mothers will act as matchmakers for their daughters, arranging for other men to live with their daughters, while the mothers guard the doors, collecting wealth to support themselves. The king's dream of these seven things is precisely for this reason. The king dreamt of a herd of cows running from all directions, bellowing and chasing each other, wanting to fight, but not actually fighting, and not knowing where the cows were. This means that in the future, people will be greedy for lust and keep many wives and concubines. The king and his ministers and elders will be very happy. Will this be the case in the future? After a while, the clouds will disperse, and seeing this strange phenomenon is meant to make people fear the prohibitions of heaven and earth, to dispel lustful desires, to protect their wives, to have compassion, and to eliminate the harm that wives bring. The king's dream of these eight things is precisely for this reason. The king dreamt of a large pond, with the center being muddy and the four sides being clear, which means that in the future, people in the country will not respect the elders, but will respect the young people from the border regions. The king's dream of these nine things is precisely for this reason.'
。王夢見大溪峪水正赤者,後世人大臣長吏,所欲不知止足,興兵聚眾更相攻伐,當殺人民流血正赤,王夢見十事者,正為是耳。王莫恐莫恐!於國于身妻子皆無他,是夢者皆為後世方來之事。」
王即長跪言:「得佛教,心即歡喜,如人持小器受膏,膏多器小更求大器,得大器更受之,即安隱不恐。」王即稽首再拜,前以頭面著佛足而去。還歸於宮,重賜正夫人,皆奪諸公大臣俸祿,不復信諸婆羅門語
現代漢語譯本:國王夢見大溪谷的水變成紅色,預示後世的大臣和官員,慾望不知滿足,會興兵聚眾互相攻打,導致殺戮人民,血流成河,正如這紅色之水。國王夢見的十件事,正是為此而預兆。國王不必驚恐!對國家、自身和妻兒都不會有災禍,這些夢都是預示後世將要發生的事情。 國王立刻長跪說道:『得到佛法的教誨,我心中無比歡喜,就像一個人用小容器盛油,油太多而容器太小,就想換個大容器,得到大容器后就能盛更多,這樣就安心不害怕了。』國王隨即叩頭再拜,用頭面觸碰佛的腳后離開。回到宮中,他重賞了正夫人,並剝奪了各位大臣的俸祿,不再相信婆羅門的話。
English version: The king dreamt that the water in the Great Creek Valley had turned red, which foretells that in later generations, ministers and officials will have insatiable desires, raise armies and gather crowds to attack each other, leading to the slaughter of people and rivers of blood, just like this red water. The ten things the king dreamt of are precisely omens of this. The king need not be afraid! There will be no disaster for the country, himself, or his wife and children. These dreams are all predictions of things that will happen in later generations. The king immediately knelt down and said, 'Having received the teachings of Buddhism, my heart is filled with joy, like a person using a small container to hold oil. If there is too much oil and the container is too small, one would want to change to a larger container. Having obtained a larger container, one can hold more, and thus be at peace and not afraid.' The king then kowtowed and bowed again, touching the Buddha's feet with his head and face before leaving. Upon returning to the palace, he richly rewarded the chief wife, and deprived the ministers of their salaries, no longer believing the words of the Brahmins.
