如是我聞:

一時婆伽婆住舍衛國祇陀樹林給孤獨園,與大比丘眾千二百五十人俱。

爾時,世尊告諸比丘言:「諸比丘!若有眾生能知佈施所有功德及施果報,如我所知,于食食時,若初食摶、若后食摶,若不捨施不應自食。」

爾時世尊而說偈言:

「若有諸眾生,  如佛之所說, 減食分而施,  成就大果報。 或以初食摶、  或以後食摶, 若不用佈施,  則不應自食。」

爾時,世尊說是偈已,告諸比丘言:「諸比丘!乃往過去過無量劫,時有王都,王號蓮華。彼城有女,名曰銀色——端正殊妙,容相具足,成就最上勝妙色身。

「彼銀色女有所須故,從自家出往至他舍。入他舍已,見彼家內新產婦女生一童子,端正殊妙,身色成就。時產婦女以手擎子而欲食之。時銀色女即問之曰:『妹何所作?』

「彼即答言:『我今甚饑,無有氣力,不知何食,故欲啖子。』

「時銀色女即語之言:『妹今且止,此事不可

English version: The Sutra of the Silver-Colored Woman Translated by Tripitaka Master Buddhasanta of the Yuan Wei Dynasty from India Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was dwelling in the Jeta Grove of Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti, together with a great assembly of twelve hundred and fifty Bhikshus. At that time, the World Honored One addressed the Bhikshus, saying: 'Bhikshus! If sentient beings could understand the merits of giving and the karmic results of giving, as I understand them, then when eating, whether it be the first morsel or the last morsel, one should not eat it without first giving it away.' Then, the World Honored One spoke this verse: 'If there are sentient beings, As the Buddha has said, Reducing their food to give, They will achieve great karmic results. Whether it be the first morsel, Or the last morsel, If one does not give it away, Then one should not eat it oneself.' Then, after the World Honored One had spoken this verse, he addressed the Bhikshus, saying: 'Bhikshus! In the immeasurable past, there was a royal city, and the king was named Lotus. In that city, there was a woman named Silver-Colored—she was dignified and beautiful, with an outstanding appearance, possessing the most excellent and beautiful form.' 'That Silver-Colored woman, having some need, went from her own home to another's house. Upon entering the house, she saw that the woman who had just given birth had produced a boy, who was handsome and beautiful, with a beautiful complexion. At that time, the woman who had given birth was holding the child in her arms, intending to eat him. The Silver-Colored woman then asked her: 'Sister, what are you doing?' 'She replied: 'I am very hungry now, I have no strength, and I don't know what to eat, so I want to eat the child.' 'At that time, the Silver-Colored woman said to her: 'Sister, please stop, this is not permissible.'

。妹!此舍中豈更無食人所食者?』

「即答言:『姊!我久積集慳貪垢吝,是故於今無物可食。』

「銀色女言:『妹今且止,待我向家與妹取食。』

「彼復言:『姊!我今二脅皆欲破壞,背復欲裂,心戰不安,諸方皆闇。姊適出舍,我命即斷。』

「時銀色女作如是念:『若將子去,彼婦命終;若不將去,必食此子。以何方便救此二命?』

「即語之言:『妹!此室中有利刀不?我今須之。』

「彼答言:『有。』即便取刀授與銀色。

「銀色取刀自割二乳與彼令食,而語之言:『食我此乳,即令妹身離飢渴苦。』

「彼取食已,復問之言:『妹為飽不?』

「彼答言:『飽。』

「銀色女言:『妹今當知,此子乃是我自身肉之所贖得。今且寄妹,我須向家取諸飲食。』

「作是語已,流血遍身曳地而去。

「往至家中,銀色眷屬諸親見已,皆共問言:『是誰所作?』

「銀色答言:『是我自作。』

「彼復問言:『何以故爾?』

「銀色答言:『我已起心不捨大悲,為求成就阿耨多羅三藐三菩提故。』

「諸親皆言:『雖行佈施而心悔者,乃可是檀,非波羅蜜

『妹妹!這屋子裡難道沒有其他人吃的食物了嗎?』 她回答說:『姐姐!我長久以來積攢了慳吝的污垢,所以現在沒有東西可以吃。』 銀色女說:『妹妹你先彆著急,等我回家給你拿食物來。』 她又說:『姐姐!我現在兩肋都快要裂開了,背也快要斷了,心神不安,四處昏暗。姐姐你剛一離開這屋子,我的命就斷了。』 這時銀色女心想:『如果把孩子帶走,那個婦人就會死;如果不帶走,她一定會吃掉這個孩子。用什麼辦法才能救這兩條命呢?』 於是對她說:『妹妹!這屋子裡有鋒利的刀嗎?我現在需要它。』 她回答說:『有。』就拿刀給了銀色女。 銀色女拿起刀割下自己的兩個乳房給她吃,並對她說:『吃我的乳房,就能讓妹妹你擺脫飢渴的痛苦。』 她吃完后,又問:『妹妹你飽了嗎?』 她回答說:『飽了。』 銀色女說:『妹妹你現在應該知道,這個孩子是用我自己的肉贖回來的。現在先寄養在你這裡,我需要回家拿些食物。』 說完這些話,她渾身流血,拖著身體離開了。 回到家中,銀色的親屬們看到她這樣,都問:『這是誰做的?』 銀色女回答說:『是我自己做的。』 他們又問:『為什麼會這樣?』 銀色女回答說:『我已經發心不捨棄大悲心,爲了求得成就無上正等正覺的緣故。』 親屬們都說:『雖然行佈施但心生後悔的,那隻能算是佈施,不是波羅蜜。』

My ribs are about to break, my back is about to split, my heart is uneasy, and everything is dark. As soon as you leave this house, my life will end.' At this time, the silver-colored woman thought: 'If I take the child away, that woman will die; if I don't take it away, she will surely eat this child. What method can I use to save these two lives?' So she said to her: 'Sister! Is there a sharp knife in this house? I need it now.' She replied: 'Yes.' And then gave the knife to the silver-colored woman. The silver-colored woman took the knife and cut off her two breasts for her to eat, and said to her: 'Eat my breasts, and it will relieve your hunger and thirst.' After she had eaten, she asked again: 'Sister, are you full?' She replied: 'I am full.' The silver-colored woman said: 'Sister, you should know now that this child was redeemed with my own flesh. For now, I will leave the child with you, and I need to go home to get some food.' After saying these words, she left, dragging her bleeding body. When she returned home, the silver-colored woman's relatives, seeing her like this, all asked: 'Who did this?' The silver-colored woman replied: 'I did it myself.' They asked again: 'Why did you do this?' The silver-colored woman replied: 'I have already resolved not to abandon great compassion, for the sake of seeking to achieve Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi.' All the relatives said: 'Although one practices giving, if one's heart regrets it, that can only be considered giving, not paramita.'

「作是語已,復問之言:『當割捨時為歡喜不?勿以苦痛至生悔惱。』

「時銀色女即發誓言:『我割二乳不生悔心,心無異想。以是誓願,令我二乳還復如本。』作是誓已,即時二乳還復如本。

「爾時,蓮華城中諸夜叉等發大聲言:『銀色女今自舍二乳。』爾時,地天聞已,復唱;虛空中天聞已,傳唱;如是傳聲,乃至梵天。

「時帝釋王作如是念:『是事希有!此銀色女愍眾生故,自舍二乳。我今當往,至彼試之。』作是念已,即自變身作婆羅門。於左手中執金澡罐及捉金缽,于右手中捉一金杖,而便往詣蓮花王都。到已,漸漸至銀色女所居舍宅,在門外立,唱言乞食。

「時銀色女既聞門外乞食聲已,即便隨時以器盛食,出在門外。時婆羅門而語之言:『妹今且停,我不須食。』

「女言:『何故?』

「婆羅門言:『我是帝釋。我于汝所甚生疑心,故來到此。如我所問,必當答我。』

「女語之言:『大婆羅門!今者但問。隨意所問,我當答之,必令稱汝婆羅門心。』

「時婆羅門即問言:『妹實割二乳施他以不?』

「答言:『實爾

English version Having said these words, he further asked her: 'When you were cutting off your breasts, were you happy? Do not let pain lead to regret.' At that time, the Silver Woman immediately made a vow: 'I will not regret cutting off my two breasts, and my heart has no other thoughts. With this vow, may my two breasts return to their original state.' After making the vow, her two breasts immediately returned to their original state. At that time, the Yakshas in Lotus City shouted loudly: 'The Silver Woman has now given away her two breasts.' At that time, the Earth God heard it and also shouted; the gods in the sky heard it and also spread the word; in this way, the sound spread, even reaching Brahma. At that time, King Indra thought: 'This matter is truly rare! This Silver Woman, out of compassion for sentient beings, has actually given away her two breasts. I should go there now and test her.' After thinking this, he transformed himself into a Brahmin. In his left hand, he held a golden water pot and a golden bowl, and in his right hand, he held a golden staff, and then he went to the capital of the Lotus King. After arriving, he gradually came to the residence of the Silver Woman, stood outside the door, and called out for alms. At that time, the Silver Woman, upon hearing the sound of begging for alms outside the door, immediately filled a container with food and took it outside. At this time, the Brahmin said to her: 'Sister, please stop, I do not need food.' The woman asked: 'Why?' The Brahmin said: 'I am Indra. I have great doubts about you, so I have come here. You must answer the questions I ask.' The woman said to him: 'Great Brahmin! Now just ask. Whatever you ask, I will answer you, and I will surely satisfy your Brahmin heart.' At this time, the Brahmin asked: 'Sister, did you really cut off your two breasts to give to others?' She replied: 'Indeed, I did.'

。大婆羅門!』

「婆羅門言:『何以故爾?』

「銀色女言:『大悲之心為取阿耨多羅三藐三菩提故。』

「婆羅門言:『此事甚難。甚難事者,所謂阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。若佈施已,而生悔心,彼乃是檀,非波羅蜜。汝當施時,歡喜以不?當割時苦生異念不?』

「銀色即答言:『憍尸迦!我今立誓,我以求於一切智心、為求一切世間勝心、求救一切眾生之心,割此二乳實不生悔。若不悔者,令我女身變成男子。』時銀色女作是誓已,即成男子——彼見女身成男子已,心生歡喜,踴躍無量——至於余處樹下睡眠。

「時蓮華王忽然崩亡,其王無子。時甚大熱。當於是時,諸大臣等從樹至樹、從村至村、從城至城、從都至都,處處求覓有相之人應為王者。諸臣皆言:『我等今者云何而得如法治王?』

「當爾之時,有一大臣以熱困故,入華池中。

「時彼大臣見樹下人色貌殊勝,具足眾相,睡臥不覺。日雖移去,然其樹影不捨彼人。時彼大臣彈指令覺。彼既覺已,將至王舍即與剃髮,令被王服首著寶冠,而語之言:『當治王事。』

「彼即答言:『我實不能治于王事。』

「復語之言:『今者必須治于王事

『大婆羅門!』 『婆羅門問:『為什麼這樣說?』 『銀色女回答:『因為我發大悲心,爲了求得無上正等正覺。』 『婆羅門說:『這件事很難。所謂無上正等正覺,是非常難的事。如果佈施之後,又產生後悔之心,那只是普通的佈施,不是波羅蜜。你佈施的時候,是歡喜的嗎?在割捨的時候,有沒有因為痛苦而產生其他的想法?』 『銀色女立刻回答說:『憍尸迦!我現在立誓,我爲了求得一切智慧,爲了求得超越世間一切的心,爲了救度一切眾生的心,割捨這兩個乳房,實在沒有產生後悔。如果我沒有後悔,就讓我女身變成男子。』當時銀色女發了這個誓願之後,立刻變成了男子——他看到女身變成男子之後,心中非常歡喜,踴躍無量——然後到其他地方的樹下睡覺。 『當時蓮華王突然去世,而他沒有兒子。當時天氣非常炎熱。在這個時候,各位大臣從一棵樹到另一棵樹,從一個村莊到另一個村莊,從一個城市到另一個城市,從一個都城到另一個都城,到處尋找有王者之相的人。各位大臣都說:『我們現在要怎樣才能找到一個能夠依法治理國家的國王呢?』 『當時,有一位大臣因為天氣炎熱而感到睏倦,就進入了蓮花池中。 『當時,這位大臣看到樹下有一個人,容貌非常殊勝,具足各種相好,正在睡覺,沒有醒來。太陽雖然已經移動,但是樹的影子卻沒有離開這個人。當時,這位大臣彈指讓他醒來。他醒來之後,大臣就把他帶到王宮,給他剃了頭髮,讓他穿上王服,頭上戴上寶冠,然後對他說:『你應當治理國家。』 『他回答說:『我實在不能治理國家。』 『大臣又對他說:『現在你必須治理國家。』

'The Brahmin said, 'This matter is very difficult. What is called Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi is an extremely difficult thing. If after giving alms, one generates regret, that is just ordinary giving, not a paramita. When you gave, were you joyful? When you were cutting, did you have other thoughts because of the pain?' 'The silver-colored woman immediately replied, 'Kausika! I now make a vow, that for the sake of seeking all wisdom, for the sake of seeking a heart that surpasses all in the world, for the sake of saving all sentient beings, cutting off these two breasts, I truly have no regret. If I have no regret, may my female body transform into a male body.' At that time, after the silver-colored woman made this vow, she immediately transformed into a man—when he saw his female body transform into a male body, his heart was very joyful, and he leaped with immeasurable joy—then he went to sleep under a tree in another place. 'At that time, King Lotus suddenly passed away, and he had no son. At that time, the weather was extremely hot. At this time, the ministers went from tree to tree, from village to village, from city to city, from capital to capital, searching everywhere for a person with the marks of a king. The ministers all said, 'How can we now find a king who can govern the country according to the law?' 'At that time, one of the ministers, feeling tired because of the hot weather, entered a lotus pond. 'At that time, this minister saw a person under a tree, whose appearance was very extraordinary, possessing all the auspicious marks, sleeping and not awake. Although the sun had moved, the shadow of the tree did not leave this person. At that time, this minister snapped his fingers to wake him up. After he woke up, the minister took him to the palace, shaved his head, had him put on royal robes, and placed a jeweled crown on his head, and then said to him, 'You should govern the country.' 'He replied, 'I really cannot govern the country.' 'The minister again said to him, 'Now you must govern the country.'

「彼復答言:『我若為王,如法治國。汝等諸人,若當悉受十善業道,我則為王。』

「彼皆答言:『臣等順行。』即時皆受十善業道。

「彼人如是十善業道勸眾生已,即治王事,名銀色王。爾時,國內諸人民等壽命七萬那由他歲。彼王於是無量百歲無量千歲治王事已,爾乃命終。

「臨命終時作如是言:

「『一切皆無常,  必有敗壞事, 合會必有離,  有命皆必死。 隨所作事業,  若善若不善, 一切有生者,  命皆不久住。』

「彼王命終,還生彼處蓮華王都。于長者妻而便託生,可八九月便生童子,端正殊妙,具足眾色。然彼童子過八歲后,五百童子而圍繞之將詣學堂。彼學堂處,先有五百童子學書。

「時彼童子問舊者言:『汝等於此為何所作?』

「舊者答言:『我等學書。』

「又言:『學書得何義利?汝等何須學此書為?汝等但應發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心。』

「舊童子言:『發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心,為何所作?』

「童子答言:『必須修行六波羅蜜。何等為六?所謂檀波羅蜜、尸波羅蜜、羼提波羅蜜、毗梨耶波羅蜜、禪波羅蜜、般若波羅蜜

那人回答說:『如果我當國王,我將依法治理國家。你們這些人,如果都能接受十善業道,我就當國王。』 他們都回答說:『我們願意遵從。』隨即都接受了十善業道。 那人這樣用十善業道勸導眾生后,就開始治理國家,被稱為銀色王。當時,國內的人民壽命都有七萬那由他歲。這位國王在無量百歲、無量千歲治理國家后,才去世。 臨終時,他說了這樣的話: 『一切都是無常的,必定會有敗壞的時候,聚合必定會有分離,有生命就必定會死亡。 隨著所作的事業,無論是善還是不善,一切有生命的,壽命都不會長久。』 這位國王去世后,又回到蓮花王都。在一位長者的妻子那裡投胎,大約八九個月後生下一個男孩,相貌端正殊妙,具備各種美好的顏色。這個男孩過了八歲后,有五百個孩子圍繞著他,一起去學堂。學堂里,已經有五百個孩子在學習。 這時,這個男孩問那些先來的孩子:『你們在這裡做什麼?』 先來的孩子回答說:『我們在學習寫字。』 他又說:『學習寫字有什麼意義?你們為什麼要學習這些文字?你們應該發無上正等正覺的心。』 先來的孩子們說:『發無上正等正覺的心,是做什麼的?』 男孩回答說:『必須修行六波羅蜜。哪六種呢?就是佈施波羅蜜、持戒波羅蜜、忍辱波羅蜜、精進波羅蜜、禪定波羅蜜、般若波羅蜜。』

They all replied, 'We will follow.' Immediately, they all accepted the ten virtuous paths of action. After that person had thus persuaded the people with the ten virtuous paths of action, he began to govern the kingdom and was called King Silver. At that time, the people in the country had a lifespan of seventy thousand nayutas of years. After governing the kingdom for countless hundreds and thousands of years, the king finally passed away. At the time of his death, he spoke these words: 'All things are impermanent, there will surely be decay, union will surely have separation, and all who have life will surely die. According to the deeds one has done, whether good or bad, all who are born will not live long.' After the king passed away, he was reborn in the Lotus King City. He was conceived in the womb of an elder's wife, and after about eight or nine months, a boy was born, with a handsome and extraordinary appearance, possessing all kinds of beautiful features. After this boy turned eight, he was surrounded by five hundred children, and they went to the school together. In the school, there were already five hundred children learning. At this time, the boy asked the children who had come earlier, 'What are you doing here?' The children who had come earlier replied, 'We are learning to write.' He also said, 'What is the meaning of learning to write? Why do you need to learn these writings? You should develop the mind of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi.' The children who had come earlier said, 'What is the purpose of developing the mind of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi?' The boy replied, 'One must practice the six paramitas. What are the six? They are the paramitas of giving, morality, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom.'

「彼既聞已,即言:『我發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心。』

「時彼童子既令諸人發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心已,作如是念:『我今欲以微少物施。我今當爲二足、四足、禽獸、鹿等而行佈施。』作是念已,而便往至尸陀林中。即以利刀刺身出血,涂身令遍,復以油涂,臥彼林中,而自唱言:『諸有近遠二足、四足、鹿等禽獸,須食之者,愿來至此,食我身肉。』

「於時彼處飛鳥眾中有一鳥來,名曰有手,坐其額上挽其右眼,挽已還放。

「彼問鳥言:『汝今何故挽我右眼而復放耶?』

「彼鳥答言:『我於人身余分肉中,一切無有美於眼者。』

「彼語鳥言:『假使千遍挽我右眼而復放之,而我不生嫌恨之心。』

「彼鳥於是啖其二眼。無量鳥眾集彼林中,彼鳥悉共食其肉盡,唯白骨在。

「彼捨身已,即復還生蓮華王都。託生彼處婆羅門婦,足滿十月生一童子,端正殊妙,最上無比,身色具足。

「年二十后,於時父母而語之言:『摩那婆!當須造舍。』

「時彼童子報父母言:『為我造舍為有何義?我心今者不在於舍,惟愿放我入于深山。』父母即聽。

「彼出自舍往詣山林,既往到已,見山林中於前先有二婆羅門舊住仙人在彼林中

『他聽了這話,就說:「我發了無上正等正覺的心。」』 『當時,那童子既然令眾人發了無上正等正覺的心后,就想:「我現在想用微薄之物佈施。我應當為二足、四足、禽獸、鹿等進行佈施。」這樣想著,就前往尸陀林中。他用利刀刺破身體,讓血流出來塗滿全身,又塗上油,躺在那林中,自己唱道:「所有遠近的二足、四足、鹿等禽獸,需要食物的,希望來到這裡,吃我的肉。」』 『當時,那裡的飛鳥中有一隻鳥飛來,名叫有手,停在他的額頭上,啄他的右眼,啄完又放開。』 『他問鳥說:「你現在為什麼啄我的右眼又放開呢?」』 『那鳥回答說:「我吃人身上其他部分的肉,沒有比眼睛更美味的。」』 『他對鳥說:「即使你啄我的右眼一千遍又放開,我也不生嫌恨之心。」』 『那鳥於是吃掉了他的兩隻眼睛。無數的鳥聚集在那林中,那些鳥一起吃光了他的肉,只剩下白骨。』 『他捨棄身體后,就又轉生到蓮花王都。投生在那裡一個婆羅門婦人的腹中,足月十個月生下一個童子,端正殊妙,最上無比,身體的顏色也十分完美。』 『二十歲后,他的父母對他說:「摩那婆!你應當建造房屋。」』 『當時,那童子回答父母說:「為我建造房屋有什麼意義呢?我的心現在不在房屋上,只希望放我進入深山。」父母就答應了。』 『他從家中出來前往山林,到了那裡,看見山林中先前有兩位婆羅門老仙人住在那裡。』

'Upon hearing this, he said, 『I have set my mind on Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (supreme enlightenment).』 'Then, after the boy had caused all those people to set their minds on Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, he thought, 『Now I wish to give a small offering. I shall now make offerings to bipeds, quadrupeds, birds, deer, and so on.』 Having thought this, he went to the charnel ground. He pierced his body with a sharp knife, letting blood flow out to cover his entire body, then he smeared it with oil, lay down in the forest, and proclaimed, 『All bipeds, quadrupeds, deer, and birds, near and far, who need food, may come here and eat my flesh.』 'At that time, among the birds there, one bird came, named 'With Hands,' and sat on his forehead, plucked out his right eye, and then released it.' 'He asked the bird, 『Why did you pluck out my right eye and then release it?』 'The bird replied, 『Among the flesh of the human body, there is nothing more delicious than the eye.』 'He said to the bird, 『Even if you were to pluck out my right eye a thousand times and then release it, I would not harbor any resentment.』 'Then the bird ate both of his eyes. Countless birds gathered in that forest, and they all ate his flesh until only his white bones remained.' 'After he gave up his body, he was reborn in the city of Lotus King. He was born to a Brahmin woman there, and after ten months, she gave birth to a boy, who was exceptionally handsome, unparalleled, and perfect in complexion.' 'When he was twenty years old, his parents said to him, 『Manava! You should build a house.』 'At that time, the boy replied to his parents, 『What is the point of building a house for me? My heart is not in a house now; I only wish to be allowed to go into the deep mountains.』 His parents agreed.' 'He left his home and went to the mountains. When he arrived, he saw that there were two old Brahmin hermits who had been living in that forest before him.'

。時摩那婆至婆羅門二仙人所,問婆羅門二仙人言:『梵仙在此山林之中,為何所作?』

「二仙報言:『摩那婆!我等皆為利益眾生故,在此林行於苦行,作種種事。』

「彼復語言:『我於今者,亦為利益一切眾生故,來至此欲作苦行。』彼摩那婆即至余處樹林之中,量地作屋。

「彼摩那婆以修善業福德力故,忽得天眼。即時,遙見於其住處相去不遠,有一母虎住在彼處,而彼母虎懷妊將產。時摩那婆見已,念言:『而此母虎將產不久,此虎產已,或容餓死、或時飢餓極受困苦、或食自子。』念已,即問彼婆羅門二仙人言:『誰能割身與此虎者?』

「彼即答言:『我等不能自割身施。』作是語已,復過七日,母虎便產。

「虎既產已,口銜諸子,復置於地而復還取。時摩那婆見是事已,即便往到二仙人所語言:『大仙!母虎已產。若為利益諸眾生故行苦行者,今正是時,可割身肉與此母虎。』

「時彼仙人二婆羅門,即便往至母虎左已,作是思惟:『誰能忍受如是苦事而行大施?誰能自割所愛身肉與此餓虎?』作是念已,彼產母虎即遠逐之。彼二仙人惜身命故,飛空而去

English version: At that time, Manava went to the two Brahmin ascetics and asked them, 'What are you, Brahmin ascetics, doing in this mountain forest?' The two ascetics replied, 'Manava! We are all here in this forest practicing asceticism and doing various things for the benefit of all beings.' Manava then said, 'I have also come here to practice asceticism for the benefit of all beings.' After saying this, Manava went to another forest area, measured the land, and built a house. Due to the power of the merit of his good deeds, Manava suddenly gained divine vision. He immediately saw from afar that not far from his dwelling, there was a tigress living there, and this tigress was pregnant and about to give birth. Upon seeing this, Manava thought, 'This tigress is about to give birth soon. After she gives birth, she might starve to death, or suffer extreme hardship from hunger, or even eat her own cubs.' Thinking this, he asked the two Brahmin ascetics, 'Who can cut off their own body to give to this tiger?' They replied, 'We cannot cut off our own bodies to give away.' After saying this, seven more days passed, and the tigress gave birth. After the tiger gave birth, she carried the cubs in her mouth, then placed them on the ground, and then picked them up again. At this time, Manava, seeing this situation, immediately went to the two ascetics and said, 'Great ascetics! The tigress has given birth. If you are practicing asceticism for the benefit of all beings, now is the time to cut off your own flesh to give to this tigress.' At that time, the two Brahmin ascetics went to the left side of the tigress and thought, 'Who can endure such suffering and perform such a great act of charity? Who can cut off the flesh of their own beloved body to give to this hungry tiger?' Thinking this, the newly delivered tigress chased after them. The two ascetics, because they cherished their own lives, flew into the air and left.

「時摩那婆即便遙語彼婆羅門二仙人言:『此是汝等誓願事耶?』作是語已,即發誓言:『我今捨身以濟餓虎。愿令我身以此因緣,必得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。』作是愿已,于彼地處得一利刀,自壞其身以施餓虎。

「諸比丘!我愍汝等生於疑心,諸比丘!勿生異疑,莫作余觀。何以故?汝等當知:爾時于彼蓮華王都銀色女人割二乳者豈異人乎?今我身是。

「諸比丘!勿生異疑,莫作余觀。何以故?汝等當知:我是爾時蓮華王都銀色女也。

「諸比丘!勿生異疑,莫作余觀。何以故?汝等當知:我是爾時名銀色女,舍於二乳濟彼子者。

「諸比丘!勿生異疑,莫作余觀。何以故?汝等當知:羅睺羅者豈異人乎?即是爾時彼童子也。

「諸比丘!勿生異疑,莫作異觀。何以故?汝等當知:爾時于彼蓮華王都尸陀林中,為諸鳥眾割捨身者豈異人乎?我身是也。

「諸比丘!勿生異疑,莫作余觀。何以故?汝等當知:爾時二仙婆羅門者豈異人乎?即是汝等諸比丘也。

「諸比丘!勿生異疑,莫作余觀。何以故?汝等當知:我是爾時婆羅門子摩那婆也。

「諸比丘!是故我今為比丘說,若諸比丘知施功德及施果報,應施初摶、若施后摶,如是而食

『那時,摩那婆立即遠遠地對那兩位婆羅門仙人說:「這是你們的誓願嗎?」說完這話,就發誓說:「我今天捨棄身體來救濟飢餓的老虎。愿我以此因緣,必定證得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。」發完這個愿后,就在那個地方得到一把鋒利的刀,自己毀壞身體來施捨給飢餓的老虎。 『各位比丘!我憐憫你們心中產生疑惑,各位比丘!不要產生其他的疑惑,不要做其他的想法。為什麼呢?你們應當知道:那時在蓮花王都,那個割下雙乳的銀色女子難道是別人嗎?就是我現在的身體。 『各位比丘!不要產生其他的疑惑,不要做其他的想法。為什麼呢?你們應當知道:我就是那時蓮花王都的銀色女子。 『各位比丘!不要產生其他的疑惑,不要做其他的想法。為什麼呢?你們應當知道:我就是那時名叫銀色女子,捨棄雙乳來救濟那個孩子的女子。 『各位比丘!不要產生其他的疑惑,不要做其他的想法。為什麼呢?你們應當知道:羅睺罹難道是別人嗎?就是那時那個童子。 『各位比丘!不要產生其他的疑惑,不要做其他的想法。為什麼呢?你們應當知道:那時在蓮花王都的尸陀林中,爲了鳥群而割捨身體的人難道是別人嗎?就是我現在的身體。 『各位比丘!不要產生其他的疑惑,不要做其他的想法。為什麼呢?你們應當知道:那時那兩位仙人婆羅門難道是別人嗎?就是你們各位比丘。 『各位比丘!不要產生其他的疑惑,不要做其他的想法。為什麼呢?你們應當知道:我就是那時婆羅門之子摩那婆。 『各位比丘!因此我今天為比丘們說,如果各位比丘知道佈施的功德和佈施的果報,應當佈施最初的一口,或者佈施最後的一口,像這樣來食用。'

I pity you for giving rise to doubts in your minds. Monks! Do not give rise to other doubts, do not have other thoughts. Why? You should know: Was the silver woman who cut off her two breasts in the Lotus King City at that time someone else? It is my present body. 『Monks! Do not give rise to other doubts, do not have other thoughts. Why? You should know: I was the silver woman of the Lotus King City at that time. 『Monks! Do not give rise to other doubts, do not have other thoughts. Why? You should know: I was the one called the silver woman at that time, who gave up her two breasts to save that child. 『Monks! Do not give rise to other doubts, do not have other thoughts. Why? You should know: Is Rahula someone else? He was that boy at that time. 『Monks!
