Vajra Longevity Dharani Recitation Method

Translated by the Tripitaka Master Amoghavajra of Daxingshan Temple, with the title of Duke of Su, granted the honor of Kaifu Yitong Sansi, Tejin, Shihongluqing, with a fief of three thousand households, bestowed with purple robe, posthumously awarded the title of Sikong, and the posthumous title of Dajian, with the honorific title of Da Guangzhi, under imperial decree.

I now rely on the Vajrasekhara Yoga Sutra. Vairocana (毗盧遮那) the Reward Body Buddha. Attained perfect enlightenment in the fourth Dhyana of ** Peak. Immediately descended to the Sumeru Peak's Jewel Peak Pavilion. All the Tathagatas (如來) throughout the empty space and the Dharma realm gathered around. Speaking in unison, they requested the World Honored One to turn the subtle Dharma, the profound and secret four kinds of Dharma wheels. Namely, the Vajra Realm Wheel, the Trailokyavijaya Command Wheel, the Sarva-tathagata-adhisthana Wheel, and the All Meaning and Benefit Accomplishment Wheel. These four wheels emanated from the heart of Vairocana Tathagata. Each wheel has thirty-seven holy beings. Each mantra (真言), each samadhi (三摩地), each mudra (印契). With dignified conduct, upholding great compassion and vows. In the impure Buddha worlds, in the pure and wonderful Buddha worlds, sometimes hidden, sometimes manifest, revolving to benefit and bring joy. Saving sentient beings, each in their own way. Vairocana Buddha, having received the requests of all the Tathagatas, desired to turn the Dharma wheel, and entered samadhi. He saw Maheśvara (摩醯首羅天) and other devas who were stubborn and difficult to transform, clinging to wrong views. My tranquil and compassionate body is not capable of subduing them. At that time, the World Honored One entered the Wrathful Samadhi. From the five peaks of the chest, the Vajra Bodhi heart, emanated the four-faced, eight-armed, majestic, blazing, and difficult-to-behold Trailokyavijaya Vajra Bodhisattva body. He prostrated to Vairocana and all the Buddhas. He requested the World Honored One to instruct me. What should I do? The Buddha told Trailokyavijaya Bodhisattva. You should now subdue the difficult-to-subdue devas. Cause them to take refuge in the Buddhas, Dharma, and Sangha, and generate the Bodhi mind. All the devas took refuge. Only Mahadeva (大自在天) relied on his great power and virtue. He came to resist. The seed of Trailokyavijaya.


種苦治。乃至於死。毗盧遮那佛入悲愍大悲三昧耶。說金剛壽命陀羅尼。便入金剛壽命三摩地。乃結印契加持摩醯首羅天。復還得蘇。更增壽命。歸依諸佛灌頂。授記證得八地。金剛壽命真言曰。

唵嚩日啰(二合)喻矖娑嚩(二合引)賀(引)

佛告執金剛菩薩。若有善男子善女人受持唸誦日各三時時別千遍。過去所有惡業因緣。短命夭壽。由持此陀羅尼故。信心清凈業障銷滅。更增壽命。若有修習三摩地者。現生不轉父母生身。獲五神通。凌虛自在。說三摩地門。結加趺坐端身閉目。二手重疊安於臍下。于虛空中遍想諸佛。了了分明。即于自身中當心觀如滿月。光明瑩徹。上有五股金剛杵。形漸大如等身。變為降三世菩薩。頂有毗盧遮那佛。從佛遍身遍毛孔中。出甘露灌頂。注自身入於心中。復想金剛薩埵菩薩。即結金剛壽命菩薩陀羅尼印。二手金剛拳。以頭指右押左相鉤。安於頂上。誦金剛壽命陀羅尼七遍。安於額上。分手系項后。直舒二指。遍身旋轉如擐甲冑勢。甲冑真言曰。

由加持此印故。獲得身如金剛。不壞離諸災橫。見者歡喜生大恭敬。

次說護摩除災延命壇。治一凈室。于東邊安金剛壽命菩薩像。懸諸幡蓋。像前作三肘方壇。掘

其次宣說護摩(homa,意為火供)除災延命壇。治理一間乾淨的房間,在東邊安放金剛壽命菩薩像,懸掛各種幡蓋。像前製作三肘見方的壇。

The treatment of suffering, even unto death. Vairocana Buddha (the Buddha of Cosmic Illumination) entered the karuna mahakaruna samaya (the samaya of compassion and great compassion). He spoke the vajra ayus dharani (the diamond life mantra), and then entered the vajra ayus samadhi (the diamond life samadhi). Thereupon, he formed a mudra and blessed Mahesvara (the Great Lord), who was revived, his lifespan increased, and he took refuge in all the Buddhas, received abhiseka (initiation), and was prophesied to attain the eighth bhumi (bodhisattva stage). The Vajra Ayus mantra is as follows:

The Buddha told Vajrapani Bodhisattva (the Bodhisattva who holds the vajra): 'If there are good men and good women who receive, uphold, recite, and chant this mantra three times each day, a thousand times each time, all past evil karma and causes, short life and premature death, due to upholding this dharani, their faith will be pure, karmic obstacles will be eliminated, and their lifespan will be further increased. If there are those who cultivate samadhi, in this life they will not transform their parents' born body, they will obtain the five supernormal powers, and they will be free to roam in the sky. He spoke of the samadhi gate: sit in the lotus position, straighten the body, close the eyes, and place the hands one on top of the other below the navel. In the empty space, visualize all the Buddhas, clearly and distinctly. Within oneself, in the center of the heart, visualize a full moon, bright and clear, with a five-pronged vajra on top. The shape gradually becomes larger, equal to the size of the body, transforming into Trailokyavijaya (the conqueror of the three realms). On the crown of the head is Vairocana Buddha, and from the Buddha's entire body and pores, nectar flows down, pouring into oneself and entering the heart. Then visualize Vajrasattva (the Diamond Being). Then form the Vajra Ayus Bodhisattva dharani mudra: make vajra fists with both hands, with the index finger of the right hand pressing down on the left, hooking them together, and place them on the crown of the head. Recite the Vajra Ayus dharani seven times, and place it on the forehead. Separate the hands and tie them behind the neck, stretching out two fingers straight, rotating them around the body as if wearing armor. The armor mantra is as follows:

Om dhruvam vajra yu

Due to the blessing of this mudra, one obtains a body like a vajra, indestructible, free from all disasters and calamities, and those who see it rejoice and generate great reverence.'

Next, he spoke of the homa (fire ritual) altar for eliminating disasters and prolonging life. Prepare a clean room, and place an image of Vajra Ayus Bodhisattva on the east side, hanging various banners and canopies. In front of the image, construct a square altar three cubits in size.


深去瓦礫骨灰諸不凈物等。如其地無諸穢物還取舊土填之。土若有餘是大吉祥相。法易成就。若有穢物。即取河兩岸凈土填平。和諸香瞿摩夷涂。壇中心畫以白粉。作一肘半金剛甲冑。中央穿一爐。深半肘。周圍緣。如不欲穿者安火爐。行者火爐前坐。壇四面供養飲食諸果子等。壇四角安瓶。于爐中然炭。先辦乳木長十指粗如大指二十一。莖以酥揾兩頭。誦金剛壽命真言。擲於火中。然熾盛已。即於火中想八葉蓮華。于華胎中想阿字。光明遍照。成金剛壽命菩薩。次以四字四明。引請菩薩入火爐。受諸供養。即以右手半金剛印。以水灑火令凈。次取一器盛滿融酥。以骨屢草青者一莖。揾酥。誦金剛壽命陀羅尼一遍。擲於火中。乃至一百八莖或一千八莖。次後擲燒諸香乳酪。唸誦已畢。以三滿杓酥傾於火中。初后如是。若能於三長齋月或自本生日。作是供養。能除災難增益壽命。國土安泰無諸災疫風雨以時。一切賢聖擁護其人。

金剛壽命陀羅尼唸誦法

【English Translation】 English version: Dig deep to remove rubble, ashes, and all impure things. If the ground is free of impurities, refill it with the original soil. If there is excess soil, it is an auspicious sign, and the practice will be easily accomplished. If there are impurities, take clean soil from both banks of a river to fill and level the ground, mixing it with various fragrances and cow dung. In the center of the altar, draw a Vajra Armor (Vajra Armor, symbolizing indestructible protection) one and a half cubits long with white powder. In the center, dig a furnace half a cubit deep, with edges around it. If you do not wish to dig a furnace, place a fire stove. The practitioner sits in front of the fire stove, and offerings of food, fruits, and other items are placed on the four sides of the altar. Place bottles at the four corners of the altar. Light charcoal in the furnace. Prepare twenty-one twigs of milky wood, ten fingers long and as thick as a thumb, with both ends smeared with ghee (clarified butter). Recite the Vajra Life Mantra (Vajra Life Mantra) and throw them into the fire. Once the flames are blazing, visualize an eight-petaled lotus in the fire, and within the lotus womb, visualize the syllable 'A' (A syllable), its light shining everywhere, manifesting Vajra Life Bodhisattva (Vajra Life Bodhisattva). Then, using the Four Syllable Vidya (Four Syllable Vidya), invite the Bodhisattva into the furnace to receive the offerings. Next, form the Half Vajra Mudra (Half Vajra Mudra) with the right hand and sprinkle water on the fire to purify it. Then, take a vessel filled with melted ghee, dip a green Kusha grass (Kusha grass) stalk into the ghee, recite the Vajra Life Dharani (Vajra Life Dharani) once, and throw it into the fire, repeating this one hundred and eight times or one thousand and eight times. After that, burn various incense and dairy products. After completing the recitation, pour three full ladles of ghee into the fire, doing so at the beginning and the end. If one makes such offerings during the three long fasting months or on one's own birthday, one can eliminate disasters, increase lifespan, bring peace to the country, prevent epidemics, ensure timely wind and rain, and be protected by all the virtuous and holy beings.
