聞如是:
一時,佛游于迦維羅衛釋氏精廬尼拘類樹下,與大比丘眾俱,比丘千二百五十人,諸菩薩無央數。
佛以明旦著衣持缽,與諸比丘眷屬圍繞入城分衛。時,有釋種幼少童子,名面善悅,嚴駕車乘,晨朝出城。遙見世尊與諸聖眾,而俱發來,至於佛所,下車步進,稽首佛足,右繞三匝,卻住一面。
時面善悅憂戚低頭,佛以預知,故而問言:「童子所奏,而早出城,心懷憂灼,顏色慘慼。」
面善悅白佛言:「唯天中天!今我二親身不安和,橫為人非人所見侵嬈,晝夜寤寐不得寧息,出入行步亦見逼惱。又我之身雖處大國,遭此困厄窮苦無賴,竊自思惟不知何計,不審當設何等方便?假遇怨賊,或遭非人妖蠱奸邪,無以防護。唯愿世尊,告示以法,隨時救濟,令無嬈害。」
佛告面善悅:「諦聽!諦受!善念持之,當爲汝說擁護之法。」
時,釋幼童子受教而聽。
佛言:「東方去此,過於八千那術佛土,有世界名拔眾塵勞,其佛號等行如來、至真、等正覺,今現在說經法。人若東行,先當稽首歸命供養

【English Translation】 English version The Buddha Speaks of the Sutra on Eradicating the Darkness of the Ten Directions Translated by the Tripiṭaka Master Dharmarakṣa of the Yuezhi Kingdom of the Western Jin Dynasty Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was dwelling at the Nigrodha tree in the Śākya clan's monastery in Kapilavastu, together with a large assembly of great bhikṣus, numbering one thousand two hundred and fifty, and countless bodhisattvas. The Buddha, in the morning, put on his robes, held his bowl, and, surrounded by his bhikṣu retinue, entered the city for alms. At that time, there was a young Śākya boy named Mian Shan Yue, who, having prepared his carriage, was leaving the city in the early morning. From afar, he saw the World Honored One and the holy assembly coming together, and he went to where the Buddha was, got off his carriage, walked forward, bowed at the Buddha's feet, circumambulated him three times to the right, and then stood to one side. At this time, Mian Shan Yue was worried and downcast. The Buddha, knowing his thoughts in advance, asked, 'Young boy, what has caused you to leave the city so early, with such worry in your heart and such a pale face?' Mian Shan Yue said to the Buddha, 'Oh, World Honored One! My parents are now unwell, and they are constantly being harassed by non-humans. They cannot find peace day or night, and they are troubled in their comings and goings. Although I am in a great kingdom, I am facing such difficulties, feeling impoverished and helpless. I am pondering what to do, and I do not know what methods to use. If we encounter bandits or are harmed by non-human demons and evil spirits, I have no way to protect us. I beseech the World Honored One to teach us a method to provide timely aid and to keep us from harm.' The Buddha said to Mian Shan Yue, 'Listen carefully! Receive it carefully! Keep it well in mind, and I will tell you the method of protection.' At that time, the young Śākya boy received the teaching and listened attentively. The Buddha said, 'Going east from here, passing through eight thousand nasu Buddha lands, there is a world called Ba Zhong Chen Lao. The Buddha there is named Deng Xing Tathagata, Zhi Zhen, and Deng Zheng Jue, and he is now expounding the Dharma. If a person goes east, they should first bow and take refuge in and make offerings to'
于東方佛,則無恐懼莫敢侵嬈。所欲遊行,有所興作,悉當如願,志未曾亂,如心所念,輒得成就。」
佛時頌曰:
「先奉最正覺, 等行大聖人, 然後東向行, 爾乃無恐懼。」
佛告童子:「南方去此,過於十億百千佛土,有世界名消冥等要脫,其佛號初發心念離恐畏歸超首如來、至真、等正覺,今現在說經法。若欲南行,當遙稽首歸命彼佛爾乃發進,一心專念意不離佛,則無恐懼不遇患難。」
佛時頌曰:
「已離於眾想, 童子當修是, 若行至南方, 不復遇恐懼。」
佛告童子:「西方去此,如恒河沙諸佛剎土,有世界名善選擇,其佛號金剛步跡如來、至真、等正覺,今現在說經法。若欲西行,先當講說思惟,本凈之法永無所見,無起無滅寂然清凈,先當稽首禮于彼佛,一心歸命爾乃發進,則無恐懼不逢患難。」
佛時頌曰:
「諸法無所生, 亦無有所滅, 曉了知此者, 則為無恐畏。」
佛告童子:「北方去此,過二萬佛土,有世界名覺辯,其佛號寶智首如來、至真、等正覺,今現在說經法。若欲北行、設在家居,稽首作禮歸命彼佛,爾乃發進,則無恐懼不遇患難。」
佛時頌曰:
「若在於家中, 一切諸居業,

【English Translation】 English version: Towards the Buddha in the East, there will be no fear, and no one will dare to intrude. Whatever one desires, whatever one undertakes, will be fulfilled as wished, one's will will not be confused, and whatever one thinks in the heart will be accomplished. The Buddha then spoke in verse: 'First, take refuge in the Most Righteous Enlightenment (referring to the Buddha's highest enlightenment), equal to the Great Sage, then walk towards the East, and then there will be no fear.' The Buddha told the youth: 'South of here, beyond ten billion hundred thousand Buddha lands, there is a world named 'Eliminating Darkness and Achieving Liberation' (meaning eliminating confusion and achieving liberation), where the Buddha is named 'Initially Aspiring to Abandon Fear and Return to the Supreme Leader Tathagata' (meaning initially aspiring to abandon fear and take refuge in the Buddha who transcends all), 'The Truthful One', 'The Perfectly Enlightened One', who is now teaching the Dharma. If you wish to go south, you should bow in reverence to that Buddha from afar, then set forth, with one-pointed concentration, your mind not leaving the Buddha, and then there will be no fear, and you will not encounter difficulties.' The Buddha then spoke in verse: 'Having abandoned all thoughts, the youth should cultivate this, if you walk towards the South, you will no longer encounter fear.' The Buddha told the youth: 'West of here, as many Buddha lands as the sands of the Ganges River, there is a world named 'Good Choice' (meaning good at choosing), where the Buddha is named 'Vajra-Stepped Tathagata' (meaning the Buddha who is as firm as Vajra), 'The Truthful One', 'The Perfectly Enlightened One', who is now teaching the Dharma. If you wish to go west, you should first speak and contemplate, the Dharma of original purity (meaning the Dharma that is originally pure) is forever without seeing, without arising and without ceasing, it is tranquil and pure, you should first bow in reverence to that Buddha, with one-pointed devotion, then set forth, and then there will be no fear, and you will not encounter difficulties.' The Buddha then spoke in verse: 'All dharmas have no arising, nor do they have ceasing, one who understands this, will be without fear.' The Buddha told the youth: 'North of here, beyond twenty thousand Buddha lands, there is a world named 'Awakened Eloquence' (meaning awakening and eloquence), where the Buddha is named 'Jewel Wisdom Leader Tathagata' (meaning the Buddha with precious wisdom), 'The Truthful One', 'The Perfectly Enlightened One', who is now teaching the Dharma. If you wish to go north, even if you are a householder, bow in reverence to that Buddha, then set forth, and then there will be no fear, and you will not encounter difficulties.' The Buddha then spoke in verse: 'If one is at home, doing all kinds of household work,'
所有赍北行, 則無所畏懼。」
佛告童子:「東北方去此,過於百萬億佛土,有世界名持所念,其佛號壞魔慢獨步如來、至真、等正覺,今現在說經法。又彼如來詣佛樹下,適一心坐,化於三千大千世界諸魔官屬及諸魔天,悉勸立之於不退轉,當成無上正真之道。是為如來詣樹下時之所感動。若詣東北方,當遙稽首歸命彼佛,然後乃進,所在獲安,則無所畏。」
佛時頌曰:
「始從初發意, 則降伏魔兵, 心常念此佛, 尋便無恐懼。」
佛告童子:「東南方去此,過二恒河沙等佛土,有世界名常照曜,其佛號初發心不退轉輪成首如來、至真、等正覺,今現在說經法。其如來本為菩薩時,常興眾行不退轉輪義,佈施、持戒、忍辱、精進、禪定不亂、成就智慧,是為如來本為菩薩時之所感動。若東南行,先當稽首五體投地,一心歸命,然後乃進,則無恐懼。」
佛時頌曰:
「先五體作禮, 然後乃出家, 在欲所至到, 則不逢賊害。」
佛告童子:「西南方去此,過於八萬佛土,有世界名覆白交露,其佛號寶蓋照空如來、至真、等正覺,今現在說經法。若西南行,先當稽首彼方如來,以華遙散念于無相,然後乃進,則無恐懼。」
佛時頌曰:
【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本 『所有攜帶(佛像或經文)向北方行走的人,就不會有所畏懼。』
佛陀告訴童子:『從這裡向東北方走,經過超過百萬億個佛土,有一個世界名為持所念(意為保持所思念的),那裡的佛號為壞魔慢獨步如來(意為能摧毀魔的驕慢,獨一無二的如來)、至真(意為達到真理的)、等正覺(意為平等正覺的),現在正在說法。而且那位如來在菩提樹下,剛一入定,就感化了三千大千世界的所有魔王及其眷屬和諸魔天,勸他們都安住于不退轉的境界,最終成就無上正真的道。這就是如來在菩提樹下所產生的感應。如果向東北方行走,應當先遙向那位佛陀稽首歸命,然後再前進,所到之處都會平安,不會有所畏懼。』

佛陀告訴童子:『從這裡向東南方走,經過兩個恒河沙數般的佛土,有一個世界名為常照曜(意為常放光明的),那裡的佛號為初發心不退轉輪成首如來(意為初發心就永不退轉,成就圓滿的如來)、至真、等正覺,現在正在說法。那位如來在過去作為菩薩時,常常發起各種不退轉的修行,佈施、持戒、忍辱、精進、禪定不亂、成就智慧,這就是如來在過去作為菩薩時所產生的感應。如果向東南方行走,應當先五體投地稽首,一心歸命,然後再前進,就不會有恐懼。』
佛陀當時說了偈頌:
『先五體投地作禮,然後再出發,在所欲到達的地方,就不會遇到賊害。』
佛陀告訴童子:『從這裡向西南方走,經過超過八萬個佛土,有一個世界名為覆白交露(意為覆蓋著白色露水的),那裡的佛號為寶蓋照空如來(意為以寶蓋照耀虛空的如來)、至真、等正覺,現在正在說法。如果向西南方行走,應當先向那個方向的如來稽首,遙散鮮花,心中念著無相,然後再前進,就不會有恐懼。』
佛陀當時說了偈頌:
【English Translation】 English version 'All who carry (Buddha images or scriptures) and travel north will have no fear.'
The Buddha told the boy, 'Going northeast from here, passing over a million billion Buddha lands, there is a world named Holding Thoughts (meaning maintaining what is thought), where the Buddha is named Destroying Mara's Pride, Unparalleled Tathagata (meaning one who can destroy the pride of Mara, a unique Tathagata), the Truly Realized One, the Equally and Rightly Awakened One, who is now teaching the Dharma. Moreover, that Tathagata, when he reached the Bodhi tree and just sat in meditation, transformed all the demon kings and their retinues and all the demon heavens in the three thousand great thousand worlds, urging them all to abide in the state of non-retrogression, and ultimately achieve the unsurpassed, truly right path. This is the inspiration that the Tathagata generated when he reached the Bodhi tree. If you travel northeast, you should first bow in reverence and take refuge in that Buddha from afar, and then proceed. Wherever you go, you will be safe and have no fear.'
The Buddha then spoke in verse:
'From the very first moment of aspiration, the demon armies are subdued. If you constantly remember this Buddha in your heart, you will immediately have no fear.'
The Buddha told the boy, 'Going southeast from here, passing over two Ganges River sands worth of Buddha lands, there is a world named Constantly Shining (meaning constantly emitting light), where the Buddha is named Initial Aspiration Non-Retrogression Wheel Accomplished Head Tathagata (meaning one who, from the initial aspiration, never regresses and achieves perfection), the Truly Realized One, the Equally and Rightly Awakened One, who is now teaching the Dharma. That Tathagata, when he was a Bodhisattva, constantly engaged in various non-retrogressive practices, giving, upholding precepts, patience, diligence, meditation without distraction, and achieving wisdom. This is the inspiration that the Tathagata generated when he was a Bodhisattva. If you travel southeast, you should first prostrate with your five limbs touching the ground, take refuge wholeheartedly, and then proceed. You will have no fear.'
The Buddha then spoke in verse:
'First, prostrate with your five limbs, and then set out. Wherever you wish to go, you will not encounter harm from thieves.'
The Buddha told the boy, 'Going southwest from here, passing over eighty thousand Buddha lands, there is a world named Covered with White Dew (meaning covered with white dew), where the Buddha is named Jeweled Canopy Illuminating Space Tathagata (meaning a Tathagata who illuminates space with a jeweled canopy), the Truly Realized One, the Equally and Rightly Awakened One, who is now teaching the Dharma. If you travel southwest, you should first bow in reverence to the Tathagata in that direction, scatter flowers from afar, and contemplate the formless, and then proceed. You will have no fear.'
The Buddha then spoke in verse:
「供養等正覺, 以華而奉散, 用無相之心, 則無有恐懼。」
佛告童子:「西北方去此,過六恒河沙佛之剎土,有世界名住清凈,其佛號開化菩薩如來、至真、等正覺,今現在說經法。其佛國土清凈無穢,亦無愛慾、無有女人,離於五欲。若西北行,先禮彼佛,自歸悔過凈修梵行,然後出家,則無恐懼。」
佛時頌曰:
「先當修梵行, 然後出於家, 安隱不遇賊, 所在無眾難。」
佛告童子:「下方去此,過九十二垓佛之剎土,有世界名念無倒,其佛號念初發意斷疑拔欲如來、至真、等正覺,今現在說經法。若欲坐時、若夜臥時,念斯如來稽首自歸,常以普慈念救眾生,然後坐臥,則無恐懼,所愿必果。」
佛時頌曰:
「普慈念眾生, 定坐若臥眠, 于夢若寤寐, 則無有恐懼。」
佛告童子:「上方去此,過六十恒河沙等佛土,有世界名離諸恐懼無有處所,其佛號消冥等超王如來、至真、等正覺,今現在說經法。若從坐起,常禮彼佛自歸供養,常懷慈心愍于眾生,然後起行,則無恐懼,在所至奏,則獲吉安,用是念故,常得擁護。」
佛時頌曰:
「常懷慈等心, 愍于眾生類, 用哀群生故, 則無有恐懼。」

【English Translation】 English version 'Offering to the Samyak-saṃbuddha (Perfectly Enlightened Buddha) with flowers, Scattering them with a non-attached mind, Then there will be no fear.' The Buddha told the youth: 'Going northwest from here, passing through the Buddha lands of six Ganges sands (Ganges sand, an immense quantity), there is a world named Abiding in Purity, where the Buddha is named Opening Enlightenment Bodhisattva Tathāgata (Tathāgata, Thus Gone One), Arhat (Arhat, Worthy One), Samyak-saṃbuddha (Perfectly Enlightened Buddha), who is now teaching the Dharma. That Buddha's land is pure and without defilement, also without desire, without women, and is free from the five desires (pañca kāmaguṇā, forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile objects). If you go northwest, first pay homage to that Buddha, take refuge and repent, purify your practice of brahmacarya (brahmacarya, a pure life of celibacy), and then leave home, then there will be no fear.' The Buddha then spoke in verse: 'One should first practice brahmacarya, Then leave home, Secure and not encountering thieves, And there will be no difficulties anywhere.' The Buddha told the youth: 'Going below from here, passing through the Buddha lands of ninety-two gāi (gāi, an immense quantity), there is a world named Thinking Without Inversion, where the Buddha is named Thinking of the Initial Aspiration, Cutting Doubt, and Eradicating Desire Tathāgata (Tathāgata), Arhat (Arhat), Samyak-saṃbuddha (Perfectly Enlightened Buddha), who is now teaching the Dharma. If you wish to sit down, or when sleeping at night, recite the name of this Tathāgata, bow your head and take refuge, always with universal compassion thinking of saving all beings, then sit or sleep, and there will be no fear, and what you wish will surely be fulfilled.' The Buddha then spoke in verse: 'With universal compassion thinking of all beings, Whether sitting in meditation or sleeping, In dreams or when awake, Then there will be no fear.' The Buddha told the youth: 'Going above from here, passing through the Buddha lands of sixty Ganges sands, there is a world named Free from All Fear, Without a Place, where the Buddha is named Extinguishing Darkness, Surpassing King Tathāgata (Tathāgata), Arhat (Arhat), Samyak-saṃbuddha (Perfectly Enlightened Buddha), who is now teaching the Dharma. If you rise from sitting, always pay homage to that Buddha, take refuge and make offerings, always cherish a compassionate heart for all beings, then rise and act, and there will be no fear, and wherever you go, you will obtain auspicious peace, and because of this recitation, you will always be protected.' The Buddha then spoke in verse: 'Always cherish a compassionate and equal heart, Pitying all sentient beings, Because of compassion for all beings, Then there will be no fear.'
佛告童子:「汝當諦受此諸佛名,奉持思惟懷抱在心,所欲至到,則無危難。」
面善悅釋種童子前白佛言:「我已奉受此諸佛名,懷抱在心思惟奉行,其事無量,自立己心,我見十方無所蔽礙。如今曏者世尊所說,宣傳經道及諸佛名,皆如所聞,審諦無異。」
時彼眾會滿百千人聞佛所說,皆從坐起,整服長跪,而白佛言:「如來、至真、等正覺,大慈普覆,乃為我等說此經典,我及一切皆見諸佛,內外通徹無有陰冥,如佛所說,無有異也。」
於是,舍利弗前白佛言:「此族姓子等,得眼清凈何其速疾,睹見諸佛無所掛礙,功德之力乃如是乎!為是諸佛威神所接?將自宿命福勛所致耶?」
佛語舍利弗:「是佛威神,亦本功德也。」
爾時,佛放大光明普照十方,地即大動,天散華香,箜篌樂器不鼓自鳴。賢者阿難即從坐起,更整衣服,長跪叉手前白佛言:「於今何故,現大光明無所不照,地復大動、天散華香?」
佛告阿難:「汝為寧見滿百千人,叉手自歸佛前者不?」

佛言:「此百千人以是德本所興立行,無央數劫不歸惡趣,各各更歷恒河沙等世界,為轉輪聖王主四天下。一作聖王常見諸佛,而得由已志願如意,然後於世

【English Translation】 English version: The Buddha said to the youth, 『You should carefully receive these names of the Buddhas, uphold them, contemplate them, and keep them in your heart. Then, wherever you wish to go, there will be no danger or difficulty.』 The Sakya youth, with a kind and joyful face, stepped forward and said to the Buddha, 『I have already received these names of the Buddhas, kept them in my heart, contemplated them, and practiced them. Their merits are immeasurable. I have established my own mind, and I see the ten directions without any obstruction or hindrance. Now, what the World Honored One has said, the teachings of the Dharma and the names of the Buddhas, are all as I have heard, true and without any difference.』 At that time, the hundred thousand people present, upon hearing what the Buddha had said, all rose from their seats, adjusted their robes, knelt with palms together, and said to the Buddha, 『Tathagata (如來), Satya (至真), Samyak-sambuddha (等正覺), with great compassion covering all, you have spoken this scripture for us. We and all beings have seen the Buddhas, our inner and outer selves are clear, without any darkness, just as the Buddha has said, without any difference.』 Then, Sariputra (舍利弗) stepped forward and said to the Buddha, 『How is it that these sons of noble families have gained such clear vision so quickly, able to see the Buddhas without any obstruction? Their power of merit is so great! Is it due to the majestic power of the Buddhas? Or is it due to their own merits from past lives?』 The Buddha said to Sariputra, 『It is the majestic power of the Buddhas, and also their own inherent merits.』 At that time, the Buddha emitted a great light that illuminated the ten directions, and the earth immediately shook. Flowers and fragrances scattered from the sky, and musical instruments like the konghou played without being struck. The venerable Ananda (阿難) immediately rose from his seat, adjusted his robes, knelt with palms together, and said to the Buddha, 『Why is it that today such great light appears, illuminating everything, and the earth shakes, and flowers and fragrances scatter from the sky?』 The Buddha said to Ananda, 『Have you seen the hundred thousand people, with palms together, taking refuge in the Buddha?』 Ananda replied, 『I have seen them, World Honored One!』 The Buddha said, 『These hundred thousand people, because of the actions arising from this root of virtue, will not fall into evil realms for countless kalpas. Each of them will pass through worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, becoming a Chakravartin king ruling over the four continents. Once they become a holy king, they will often see the Buddhas, and they will be able to fulfill their wishes, and then in this world』
當得成佛,號曰立眼清凈如來、至真、等正覺、明行成為、善逝、世間解、無上士、道法御、天人師,為佛、眾祐,皆同一字,各各異界而成其道。」
佛適授此諸族姓子決,應時地神及虛空神,僉然舉聲而稱揚曰:「斯諸族姓功德無量。」其聲乃徹於四天王、忉利天、炎摩天、兜術天、不憍樂天、化自在天;乃至魔界,上通梵天及第二十四阿迦膩吒天,悉共歌嘆:「難及,難及!至未曾有!諸佛世尊威恩可濟,巍巍堂堂乃如是乎!勸發顯化諸族姓子而授其決,當成無上正真之道,慧無掛礙普見悉達。」
面善悅釋種童子前白佛言:「今此經典號名云何?以何奉持?」
佛告童子:「此經名曰『滅十方冥』。所以者何?念十方佛一心自歸,心中坦然如冥睹明,無復恐懼,是故名曰『滅十方冥』,當奉持之;又複名曰『如來所嘆』,當奉持之;又複名曰『了無相法』;又複名曰『空無所有』,慇勤執持。」
佛告童子:「假使有人受此經典,持諷誦讀,為他人說,具足備悉令不缺減,速成所愿。比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷,受持此經,而諷誦讀終無恐懼。若到縣官不見侵抂;若行賊中不見危害;若行大火中,即為消滅;若行水中,終不沒溺。天、龍、鬼神、阿須輪、迦留羅、真陀羅、摩休

【English Translation】 English version: When they attain Buddhahood, they will be called 'Eye-Pure Tathagata (Tathagata), the Truly Worthy One (Arhat), the Perfectly Enlightened One (Samyaksambuddha), Accomplished in Knowledge and Conduct (Vidyacharana-sampanna), the Well-Gone One (Sugata), Knower of the World (Lokavid), the Unsurpassed One (Anuttara-purusa), the Tamer of Men (Purusadamyasarathi), Teacher of Gods and Humans (Shasta devamanushyanam), Buddha (Buddha), the Blessed One (Bhagavan). Their names will be the same, but they will attain the Way in different worlds.' When the Buddha bestowed predictions upon these sons of noble families, the earth gods and the gods of the sky all raised their voices in praise, saying, 'The merits of these sons of noble families are immeasurable.' Their voices reached the Four Heavenly Kings, the Trayastrimsha Heaven, the Yama Heaven, the Tushita Heaven, the Nirmanarati Heaven, the Paranirmitavasavartin Heaven, and even the realm of Mara, ascending to the Brahma Heaven and the twenty-fourth Akanishta Heaven. They all sang in praise, 'Rare, rare! This is unprecedented! The majestic grace of the Buddhas is truly great! They encourage and enlighten these sons of noble families and bestow predictions upon them, that they will attain the unsurpassed, true, and correct path, with wisdom unhindered, universally seeing and understanding all.' The Shakya clan boy, with a kind face and a joyful heart, asked the Buddha, 'What is the name of this scripture? How should we uphold it?' The Buddha told the boy, 'This scripture is named 'Extinguishing the Darkness of the Ten Directions'. Why is that? Because by reciting the names of the Buddhas of the ten directions and taking refuge with a single mind, the heart becomes peaceful, like seeing light in the darkness, and there is no more fear. Therefore, it is named 'Extinguishing the Darkness of the Ten Directions', and you should uphold it. It is also named 'Praised by the Tathagata', and you should uphold it. It is also named 'Understanding the Formless Dharma'. It is also named 'Emptiness and Non-Existence', and you should diligently uphold it.' The Buddha told the boy, 'If someone receives this scripture, upholds it, recites it, reads it, and explains it to others, making sure it is complete and without omissions, they will quickly fulfill their wishes. Bhikshus, Bhikshunis, Upasakas, and Upasikas who uphold this scripture and recite it will never have fear. If they go to the government, they will not be wronged; if they walk among thieves, they will not be harmed; if they walk in a great fire, the fire will immediately be extinguished; if they walk in water, they will never drown. Gods, dragons, ghosts, Asuras (Asura), Garudas (Garuda), Kinnaras (Kinnara), and Mahoragas (Mahoraga) will all protect this person.'
勒,弊惡之神及餘眾鬼、人若非人,無敢觸者。師子虎狼、猛獸熊羆,無敢近者。餓鬼、魍魎,及反足鬼、溷邊諸鬼,無能嬈者,亦無所畏。若在閑居曠野樹下,露地獨處,則為如來之所建立而見擁護。若族姓子、族姓女,受此經典,持諷誦讀、書著經卷者,已曾供養過去諸佛,殖眾德本,所作功德欲辦。」
爾時,佛告賢者阿難:「假使有人今面見佛,至心供養衣被、飲食、床臥之具、病瘦醫藥,不如有人受持是經,書諷誦讀、載著竹帛、為他人說,則為具足供養于佛。」
時天帝釋與無央數諸天俱來,各赍天華,供養散佛,而白佛言:「吾當將護持此經者。」
四天王及上諸天,各赍華香以供養佛,各白佛言:「我當擁護族姓子、女,受此經典持諷誦讀、為他人說,若著竹帛載持經卷者,所在游居周匝營護,令無伺求得其便者。」
佛說如是。天帝釋眾、面善悅釋種童子,及四天王、天、龍、鬼神、阿須倫、世間人,聞經歡喜,作禮而退。
佛說滅十方冥經

【English Translation】 English version: 'Le' (a kind of evil spirit), and other evil ghosts, humans, and non-humans, none dare to touch him. Lions, tigers, wolves, fierce beasts, bears, and grizzlies, none dare to approach him. Hungry ghosts, 'wangliang' (a kind of demon), and 'fan zu gui' (ghosts with reversed feet), and various ghosts by the toilet, none can disturb him, and there is nothing to fear. If (this person) dwells in a secluded residence, in a vast wilderness, under a tree, or alone in the open, then he will be established and protected as if by the Tathagata. If a son or daughter of a good family accepts this scripture, upholds, chants, reads, and writes it on scrolls, they have already made offerings to the Buddhas of the past, planted the roots of many virtues, and the merits they have made are about to be accomplished. At that time, the Buddha said to the venerable Ananda: 'Suppose someone now sees the Buddha face to face and sincerely offers clothing, food, bedding, and medicine for illness, it is not as good as someone who accepts this scripture, writes, chants, reads, records it on bamboo slips or silk, and explains it to others, for this is equivalent to fully making offerings to the Buddha.' At that time, Sakra, Lord of the Devas (Indra), came with countless devas, each carrying heavenly flowers, offering and scattering them before the Buddha, and said to the Buddha: 'I shall protect those who uphold this scripture.' The Four Heavenly Kings and the devas above, each carrying flowers and incense to offer to the Buddha, each said to the Buddha: 'I shall protect the sons and daughters of good families who accept this scripture, uphold, chant, read, and explain it to others. If they write the scripture on bamboo slips or silk and carry the scrolls, wherever they dwell, I will protect them all around, so that no one can find an opportunity to harm them.' The Buddha spoke these words. The assembly of Sakra, Lord of the Devas, the 'Mian Shan Yue Shi Zhong' (a kind of deva), and the Four Heavenly Kings, devas, dragons, ghosts, asuras, and people of the world, were delighted upon hearing the scripture, bowed to the Buddha, and withdrew. The Sutra Spoken by the Buddha on the Extinction of Darkness in the Ten Directions
