如是我聞:
一時,佛薄伽梵,在室羅筏住誓多林給孤獨園,與無量無數聲聞、菩薩摩訶薩俱,及諸天人、阿素洛等,一切大眾前後圍繞。
爾時,世尊告舍利子:「吾今愍念一切有情,略說受持七佛名號所生功德,令受持者當獲殊勝利益安樂。汝應諦聽!極善思惟,吾當為汝分別解說。」
舍利子言:「唯然世尊,愿樂欲聞。」
佛告舍利子:「於此東方,有一佛土,名曰離垢眾德莊嚴,彼土有佛,名日輪遍照吉祥如來、應、正等覺、明行圓滿、善逝、世間解、無上丈夫、調御士、天人師、佛、薄伽梵,今現在彼,哀愍世間為諸大眾說微妙法,開示初善、中善、后善,文義巧妙,純一圓滿,清白梵行。若有得聞彼佛名者,便超百千俱胝大劫生死長夜流轉劇苦,隨在所生常識宿命;有能受持彼佛名者,不失如前所獲功德,復于百千俱胝大劫,隨所生處心離愚癡,于天人中受諸妙樂;有能建立彼佛形像,供養恭敬尊重讚歎,不失如前所獲功德,復于無量俱胝大劫,隨在所生常得值佛,速證無上正等菩提。

這時,世尊告訴舍利子(佛陀十大弟子之一)說:『我今天憐憫一切有情眾生,簡略地說一說受持七佛名號所產生的功德,讓受持的人能夠獲得殊勝的利益和安樂。你應該仔細聽!好好地思考,我將為你分別解說。』
舍利子說:『是的,世尊,我非常樂意聽聞。』
佛告訴舍利子說:『在東方,有一個佛土,名叫離垢眾德莊嚴(清凈無垢,具足功德莊嚴),那個佛土有一尊佛,名叫日輪遍照吉祥如來(如太陽般普照一切,吉祥的如來)、應(應供)、正等覺(真正平等覺悟)、明行圓滿(智慧和德行都圓滿)、善逝(善於逝世)、世間解(瞭解世間一切)、無上丈夫(無上調御者)、調御士(調御眾生的人)、天人師(天人和人的導師)、佛、薄伽梵(世尊),現在在那兒,哀憫世間,為大眾宣說微妙的佛法,開示初善、中善、后善(開始、中間、結尾都善),文辭和意義巧妙,純一圓滿,清凈的梵行。如果有能聽到那位佛的名號的人,就能超越百千俱胝(億)大劫生死長夜的流轉劇苦,無論投生到哪裡都能常識宿命(知道前世的事情);有能受持那位佛的名號的人,不會失去前面所獲得的功德,還能在百千俱胝大劫中,無論投生到哪裡,內心都能遠離愚癡,在天人中享受各種美妙的快樂;有能建立那位佛的形像,供養、恭敬、尊重、讚歎的人,不會失去前面所獲得的功德,還能在無量俱胝大劫中,無論投生到哪裡都能常常見到佛,迅速證得無上正等菩提(無上正覺)。』

【English Translation】 English version The Sutra of the Merits of Upholding the Names of the Seven Buddhas
Translated by the Tripitaka Master Xuanzang of the Great Tang Dynasty under Imperial Decree
Thus have I heard:
At one time, the Buddha Bhagavan (World Honored One) was dwelling in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Park in Sravasti (an ancient Indian city), together with immeasurable and countless Shravakas (disciples who hear the Buddha's teachings), Bodhisattva Mahasattvas (great Bodhisattvas), and also Devas (gods), Asuras (demigods), and all the great assembly surrounding him.
At that time, the World Honored One said to Sariputra (one of the Buddha's ten great disciples): 'I now, out of compassion for all sentient beings, will briefly speak of the merits arising from upholding the names of the Seven Buddhas, so that those who uphold them may obtain supreme benefits and happiness. You should listen attentively! Think very well, and I will explain it to you in detail.'
Sariputra said: 'Yes, World Honored One, I am eager to hear.'
The Buddha said to Sariputra: 'In the East, there is a Buddha land named Immaculate Virtuous Adornment (pure and adorned with merits). In that land, there is a Buddha named Sun-Wheel-Illuminating Auspicious Tathagata (the auspicious Tathagata who illuminates like the sun), Arhat (worthy of offerings), Samyak-sambuddha (perfectly and equally enlightened), Vidyacharana-sampanna (perfect in wisdom and conduct), Sugata (well-gone), Lokavid (knower of the world), Anuttara-purusha-damya-sarathi (unsurpassed tamer of men), Shastha devamanushyanam (teacher of gods and humans), Buddha, Bhagavan (World Honored One). He is now there, having compassion for the world, expounding the subtle Dharma for the great assembly, revealing the good in the beginning, the good in the middle, and the good in the end (good in the beginning, middle, and end), with skillful words and meanings, pure and complete, and pure Brahma conduct. If there are those who hear the name of that Buddha, they will transcend the long night of suffering in the cycle of birth and death for hundreds of thousands of kotis (billions) of great kalpas (eons), and wherever they are born, they will always remember their past lives; those who can uphold the name of that Buddha will not lose the merits previously obtained, and for hundreds of thousands of kotis of great kalpas, wherever they are born, their minds will be free from ignorance, and they will enjoy all kinds of wonderful pleasures among gods and humans; those who can establish the image of that Buddha, make offerings, respect, honor, and praise him, will not lose the merits previously obtained, and for immeasurable kotis of great kalpas, wherever they are born, they will always encounter the Buddha and quickly attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (supreme perfect enlightenment).'

In that land, there is a Buddha named 'Wondrous Merit Dwelling Auspicious Tathāgata' (Tathāgata, Thus Gone), 'Arhat' (Arhat, Worthy One), 'Samyaksaṃbuddha' (Samyaksaṃbuddha, Perfectly Enlightened One), 'Vidyācaraṇasaṃpanna' (Vidyācaraṇasaṃpanna, Perfect in Knowledge and Conduct), 'Sugata' (Sugata, Well-Gone), 'Lokavid' (Lokavid, Knower of the World), 'Anuttara Puruṣadamyasarathi' (Anuttara Puruṣadamyasarathi, Unsurpassed Trainer of Men), 'Purisadamyasarathi' (Purisadamyasarathi, Trainer of Men), 'Śāstā Devamanuṣyāṇāṃ' (Śāstā Devamanuṣyāṇāṃ, Teacher of Gods and Humans), 'Buddha' (Buddha, Awakened One), 'Bhagavat' (Bhagavat, Blessed One). If anyone hears the name of this Buddha, they will transcend all eight difficulties, and in every rebirth, they will remember their past lives; if anyone can uphold the name of this Buddha, they will not lose the merits previously gained, and for countless great kalpas, in every rebirth, their minds will always be wise, they will constantly dwell in good realms, and enjoy all kinds of wonderful pleasures; if anyone can establish the image of this Buddha, respectfully make offerings, honor and praise him, they will not lose the merits previously gained, and for countless great kalpas, in every rebirth, they will always encounter Buddhas, practice all the Pāramitās (Pāramitā, Perfections), and become great guides, liberating countless beings.
'Shariputra! Further, in this East, there is another Buddha-land named 'Lord of Beings'. In that land, there is a Buddha named 'One Jeweled Canopy King Tathāgata', 'Arhat', 'Samyaksaṃbuddha', 'Vidyācaraṇasaṃpanna', 'Sugata', 'Lokavid', 'Anuttara Puruṣadamyasarathi', 'Purisadamyasarathi', 'Śāstā Devamanuṣyāṇāṃ', 'Buddha', 'Bhagavat'. He is now there, compassionately regarding the world, expounding the subtle Dharma to the great assembly, revealing the initial good, the intermediate good, and the final good, with skillful words and meanings, purely complete, and pure conduct. If anyone hears the name of this Buddha, they will be free from all worries and sufferings, and their positions and wealth will not diminish, except for the karmic causes of fixed evil from past lives; if anyone can uphold the name of this Buddha, they will not lose the merits previously gained, and in every rebirth, they will possess great power and virtue, have supernatural abilities, their bodies will emit light, and their appearances will be dignified and pleasing to all; if anyone can establish the image of this Buddha, make offerings respectfully, honor and praise him, they will not lose the merits previously gained, and for countless great kalpas, they will not be born in vain, without

「複次,舍利子!於此東方,復有佛土名自在力,彼土有佛,名善逝定跡如來、應、正等覺、明行圓滿、善逝、世間解、無上丈夫、調御士、天人師、佛、薄伽梵,今現在彼,哀愍世間為諸大眾說微妙法,開示初善、中善、后善,文義巧妙,純一圓滿,清白梵行。若有得聞彼佛名者,心便寂靜離諸諠雜;有能受持彼佛名者,不失如前所獲功德,復于無量俱胝大劫,隨所生處身四威儀,若語若默心常在定;有能建立彼佛形像,供養恭敬尊重讚歎,不失如前所獲功德,復于無量俱胝大劫,隨在所生常得值佛,速能究竟諸等持門,成兩足尊度無量眾。

'Furthermore, Shariputra! In this east, there is another Buddha land named 'Free Power'. In that land, there is a Buddha named 'Well-Gone-Established-Trace Tathāgata (Tathāgata), Arhat (Arhat), Perfectly Enlightened One (Samyaksaṃbuddha), Perfect in Knowledge and Conduct (Vidyācaraṇasaṃpanna), Well-Gone (Sugata), Knower of the World (Lokavid), Unsurpassed Man to be Tamed (Anuttara Puruṣadamyasārathi), Tamer of Men (Purisadamyasarathi), Teacher of Gods and Humans (Śāstā Devamanuṣyāṇāṃ), Buddha (Buddha), Bhagavan (Bhagavān). He is now there, compassionately pitying the world, speaking the subtle Dharma to the great assembly, revealing the initial good, the middle good, and the final good, with skillful words and meanings, purely complete, and pure Brahma conduct. If anyone hears the name of that Buddha, their mind will become peaceful, free from all clamor and confusion; if anyone can uphold the name of that Buddha, they will not lose the merits previously obtained, and in countless kotis of great kalpas, wherever they are born, in the four postures of walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, whether speaking or silent, their mind will always be in samadhi; if anyone can establish the image of that Buddha, make offerings, respect, honor, and praise, they will not lose the merits previously obtained, and in countless kotis of great kalpas, wherever they are born, they will always encounter the Buddha, quickly be able to master all the samadhi gates, achieve the Two-Legged Honored One, and liberate countless beings.'

In that land, there is a Buddha named 'Jewel Flower Light Auspicious Tathāgata (Ratnapadmābhivyuhaśrī Tathāgata), Arhat (Arhat), Perfectly Enlightened One (Samyaksaṃbuddha), Perfect in Knowledge and Conduct (Vidyācaraṇasaṃpanna), Well-Gone (Sugata), Knower of the World (Lokavid), Unsurpassed Man to be Tamed (Anuttara Puruṣadamyasārathi), Tamer of Men (Purisadamyasarathi), Teacher of Gods and Humans (Śāstā Devamanuṣyāṇāṃ), Buddha (Buddha), Bhagavan (Bhagavān). He is now there, compassionately pitying the world, speaking the subtle Dharma to the great assembly, revealing the initial good, the middle good, and the final good, with skillful words and meanings, purely complete, and pure Brahma conduct. If anyone hears the name of that Buddha, they will obtain the perfect power of mindfulness and wisdom, and be fearless in speaking the Dharma among the four assemblies, their words will be dignified, and all who hear them will respectfully accept them; if anyone can uphold the name of that Buddha, they will not lose the merits previously obtained, and in countless kotis of great kalpas, wherever they are born, they will have the power of mindfulness and wisdom, achieve sharp wisdom, and obtain excellent retention; if anyone can establish the image of that Buddha, make offerings, respect, honor, and praise, they will not lose the merits previously obtained, and in countless
量俱胝大劫,隨所生處常值如來,辯才無礙廣宣妙法,漸次修習福慧資糧,成天人尊度無量眾。
「複次,舍利子!於此南方,有一佛土,名寂靜珠,彼土有佛,名超無邊跡如來、應、正等覺、明行圓滿、善逝、世間解、無上丈夫、調御士、天人師、佛、薄伽梵,今現在彼,哀愍世間為諸大眾說微妙法,開示初善、中善、后善,文義巧妙,純一圓滿,清白梵行。若有得聞彼佛名者,其心泰然無所擾亂;有能受持彼佛名者,不失如前所獲功德,復能速證月光勝定,證此定已,尋復能證殑伽沙等三摩地門;有能建立彼佛形像,供養恭敬尊重讚歎,不失如前所獲功德,復于諸佛所說法門,能遍受持深達義趣,照了無礙如日光明,隨在所生常得值佛,因以速證無上菩提。
「複次,舍利子!於此南方,復有佛土,名最上香,彼土有佛,名妙香王如來、應、正等覺、明行圓滿、善逝、世間解、無上丈夫、調御士、天人師、佛、薄伽梵,今現在彼,哀愍世間為諸大眾說微妙法,開示初善、中善、后善,文義巧妙,純一圓滿,清白梵行。若有得聞彼佛名者,身心調暢離諸粗重,惡業消滅煩惱輕微;有能受持彼佛名者,不失如前所獲功德,復于來世隨在所生,具三十二大丈夫相,一切有情同所瞻仰;有能建立彼佛形像,供

【English Translation】 English version Through countless great kalpas, wherever they are born, they will always encounter the Tathāgata (如來), possess unobstructed eloquence, widely proclaim the wonderful Dharma, gradually cultivate the accumulations of merit and wisdom, become respected by gods and humans, and liberate countless beings.
'Furthermore, Śāriputra (舍利子)! In this southern direction, there is a Buddha-land named Tranquil Jewel. In that land, there is a Buddha named Atikrāntānantagotra Tathāgata (超無邊跡如來), Arhat (應), Samyaksaṃbuddha (正等覺), Vidyācaraṇasaṃpanna (明行圓滿), Sugata (善逝), Lokavid (世間解), Anuttara Puruṣadamyasārathi (無上丈夫), Puruṣadamyasarathi (調御士), Śāstā Devamanuṣyāṇāṃ (天人師), Buddha (佛), Bhagavat (薄伽梵). He is now there, compassionately teaching the wonderful Dharma to the world, revealing the initial good, the intermediate good, and the final good, with skillful words and meanings, pure and complete, and pure conduct. If anyone hears the name of that Buddha, their mind will be peaceful and undisturbed; if anyone can uphold the name of that Buddha, they will not lose the merits previously gained, and will quickly attain the Moonlight Supreme Samadhi (candrālokābhisamaya). Having attained this samadhi, they will then attain samadhi doors as numerous as the sands of the Ganges; if anyone can establish the image of that Buddha, offer it, respect it, honor it, and praise it, they will not lose the merits previously gained, and will be able to universally uphold the Dharma taught by all Buddhas, deeply understand its meaning, illuminate everything without obstruction, like the light of the sun, and wherever they are born, they will always encounter the Buddha, and thus quickly attain Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi (無上菩提).
'Furthermore, Śāriputra! In this southern direction, there is another Buddha-land named Supreme Fragrance. In that land, there is a Buddha named Sugandharāja Tathāgata (妙香王如來), Arhat, Samyaksaṃbuddha, Vidyācaraṇasaṃpanna, Sugata, Lokavid, Anuttara Puruṣadamyasārathi, Puruṣadamyasarathi, Śāstā Devamanuṣyāṇāṃ, Buddha, Bhagavat. He is now there, compassionately teaching the wonderful Dharma to the world, revealing the initial good, the intermediate good, and the final good, with skillful words and meanings, pure and complete, and pure conduct. If anyone hears the name of that Buddha, their body and mind will be harmonious and comfortable, free from all heaviness, evil karma will be extinguished, and afflictions will be light; if anyone can uphold the name of that Buddha, they will not lose the merits previously gained, and in future lives, wherever they are born, they will possess the thirty-two marks of a great man (dvātriṃśanmahāpuruṣalakṣaṇa), and all sentient beings will look up to them; if anyone can establish the image of that Buddha, offer it, respect it,
養恭敬尊重讚歎,不失如前所獲功德,復于來世隨在所生,常得出傢俱清凈戒,游諸佛土聞法受持,具足修行一切功德,由是速證阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。」
佛告舍利子:「若諸有情,得聞如是七佛名號,受持供養,必獲如前所說功德。所以者何?如是七佛名號色像,皆由本願大悲所成故,令眾生聞持供養,皆獲如是利益安樂。」
時,薄伽梵說是經已,舍利子等諸大聲聞,及諸菩薩摩訶薩,並諸天人、阿素洛等一切大眾,聞佛所說,皆大歡喜,信受奉行。
受持七佛名號所生功德經
【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本 『供養、恭敬、尊重、讚歎,不失去先前所獲得的功德,並且在來世無論投生何處,都能常常獲得出家人的清凈戒律,遊歷各個佛國聽聞佛法並接受奉持,具足修行一切功德,因此迅速證得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提(無上正等正覺)。』 佛陀告訴舍利子(佛陀十大弟子之一,以智慧著稱):『如果眾生能夠聽聞這七佛的名號,受持供養,必定獲得如前所說的功德。這是為什麼呢?因為這七佛的名號和形象,都是由他們本願的大悲心所成就的,使得眾生聽聞、受持、供養,都能獲得這樣的利益和安樂。』 當時,薄伽梵(佛陀的尊稱)說完這部經后,舍利子等各位大聲聞(佛陀的弟子),以及各位菩薩摩訶薩(大菩薩),還有諸天人、阿素洛(非天)等一切大眾,聽聞佛陀所說,都非常歡喜,信受奉行。 受持七佛名號所生功德經
【English Translation】 English version 'Cultivating offerings, respect, reverence, and praise, one does not lose the merits previously obtained, and in future lives, wherever one is born, one will always obtain the pure precepts of a renunciate, travel to various Buddha lands to hear and uphold the Dharma, fully cultivate all merits, and thereby quickly attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (supreme perfect enlightenment).' The Buddha told Shariputra (one of the Buddha's ten great disciples, known for his wisdom), 'If sentient beings can hear the names of these seven Buddhas, uphold and make offerings to them, they will surely obtain the merits as previously described. Why is this so? Because the names and forms of these seven Buddhas are all accomplished by their original vows of great compassion, enabling sentient beings who hear, uphold, and make offerings to them to obtain such benefits and happiness.' At that time, the Bhagavan (an honorific title for the Buddha), having finished speaking this sutra, Shariputra and the other great Shravakas (Buddha's disciples), as well as the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas (great Bodhisattvas), and all the great assembly of Devas (gods), Asuras (demigods), and others, having heard what the Buddha had said, were all greatly delighted, believed, accepted, and practiced accordingly.
