如是我聞:
一時,世尊在王舍城鷲峰山中,與大苾芻眾千二百五十人俱,皆是阿羅漢,諸漏已盡。
復有諸大菩薩之眾,慈氏菩薩、妙吉祥菩薩而為上首,並余無數天、龍、夜叉、乾闥婆,及持明仙天女眾等。
爾時,世尊告尊者大迦葉言:「迦葉!我今為令諸初發心菩薩,成熟一切善根故,有所宣說;汝等諦聽,極善作意。」
時大迦葉白佛言:「善哉!世尊!受教而聽。」
佛言:「迦葉!東方去此佛剎,過一殑伽沙數等世界,有世界名曰定嚴,其土有佛,號定手最上吉祥如來、應供、正等正覺,今現住彼教化利益。其佛剎中有菩薩摩訶薩,名離塵步,次補彼佛,當成阿耨多羅三藐三菩提果,號常定手最上吉祥如來、應供、正等正覺,出現世間。
「迦葉!若有住菩薩乘諸善男子及善女人,聞是定手最上吉祥如來名號,及離塵步菩薩摩訶薩名號,能稱念受持者,是人轉生得宿命智,百劫之中背于生死,而能攝集無量福蘊,近證阿耨多羅三藐三菩提果。

【English Translation】 English version Thus have I heard: At one time, the World Honored One was in Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa in the city of Rājagṛha, together with a great assembly of twelve hundred and fifty bhikṣus, all of whom were arhats, their outflows completely exhausted. There were also great assemblies of bodhisattvas, with Bodhisattva Maitreya and Bodhisattva Mañjuśrī as their leaders, along with countless devas, nāgas, yakṣas, gandharvas, and vidyādhara celestial maidens. At that time, the World Honored One said to the venerable Mahākāśyapa: 'Kāśyapa! I am now speaking to enable those bodhisattvas who have just begun their practice to mature all their roots of goodness; you should listen carefully and pay close attention.' Then Mahākāśyapa said to the Buddha: 'Excellent! World Honored One! We will listen as instructed.' The Buddha said: 'Kāśyapa! To the east of this Buddha-field, beyond worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, there is a world called Dṛḍhālaṃkāra. In that land, there is a Buddha named Dṛḍhahasta-śreṣṭha-maṅgala-tathāgata, an arhat, a samyaksaṃbuddha, who is now residing there, teaching and benefiting beings. In that Buddha-field, there is a bodhisattva-mahāsattva named Vigata-rajas-krama, who will succeed that Buddha and attain the fruit of anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi, and will be named Constant Dṛḍhahasta-śreṣṭha-maṅgala-tathāgata, an arhat, a samyaksaṃbuddha, appearing in the world.' 'Kāśyapa! If there are good men and good women who abide in the bodhisattva-yāna, and who hear the name of Dṛḍhahasta-śreṣṭha-maṅgala-tathāgata, and the name of the bodhisattva-mahāsattva Vigata-rajas-krama, and are able to recite and uphold them, that person will be reborn with the knowledge of past lives (pūrva-nivāsānusmṛti-jñāna), will turn away from birth and death for a hundred kalpas, and will be able to accumulate immeasurable merit, and will be close to attaining the fruit of anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi.'
「複次,迦葉!東方去此佛剎,過二殑伽沙數等世界,有世界名大菩提場莊嚴妙愛,其土有佛,號蓮華最上吉祥如來、應供、正等正覺,今現住彼教化利益。其佛剎中有菩薩摩訶薩,名蓮華手,次補彼佛,當成阿耨多羅三藐三菩提果,號蓮華上王如來、應供、正等正覺,出現世間。
「迦葉!若有住菩薩乘諸善男子及善女人,聞是蓮華最上吉祥如來、應供、正等正覺名號,及蓮華手菩薩摩訶薩名號,能稱念受持者,是人轉生得宿命智,乃生常得蓮華化生,于諸世間而無染著,超越一切不善之法,猶如蓮華不著於水,當得不退轉于阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,三十千劫中背于生死,而能攝集無量福蘊,近證阿耨多羅三藐三菩提果。

【English Translation】 English version: 'Furthermore, Kashyapa! To the east of this Buddha-field, passing through worlds as numerous as two Ganges sands, there is a world named Great Bodhi Ground Adorned with Wonderful Love. In that land, there is a Buddha named Lotus Supreme Auspicious Tathagata (蓮華最上吉祥如來), Worthy of Offerings (應供), Perfectly Enlightened One (正等正覺), who now dwells there, teaching and benefiting beings. In that Buddha-field, there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva named Lotus Hand (蓮華手), who will be the next Buddha, attaining the fruit of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (阿耨多羅三藐三菩提), and will be named Lotus King Tathagata (蓮華上王如來), Worthy of Offerings, Perfectly Enlightened One, appearing in the world. 'Kashyapa! If there are good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva Vehicle, upon hearing the name of Lotus Supreme Auspicious Tathagata, Worthy of Offerings, Perfectly Enlightened One, and the name of Bodhisattva Mahasattva Lotus Hand, and are able to recite and uphold them, these people will be reborn with the knowledge of past lives (宿命智), and will always be born from a lotus flower, without attachment to the world, transcending all unwholesome dharmas, just as a lotus flower is not attached to water. They will not regress from Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, will turn away from birth and death for thirty thousand kalpas, and will be able to accumulate immeasurable blessings, drawing near to the attainment of the fruit of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. In that land, there is a Buddha named Sun Wheel Light Most Excellent Auspicious Tathagata (日輪光明最勝吉祥如來), Worthy of Offerings, Perfectly Enlightened One, who now dwells there, teaching and benefiting beings. In that Buddha-field, there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva named Sunlight (日光明), who will be the next Buddha, attaining the fruit of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, and will be named The Auspicious Perfect Supreme Adorned Tathagata of All Sages (諸聖吉祥圓滿最上眾相嚴身如來), Worthy of Offerings, Perfectly Enlightened One, appearing in the world. 生墮三惡趣,疑惑怖畏,當得不退轉于阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,千劫之中背于生死,近證阿耨多羅三藐三菩提果。
「複次,迦葉!東方去此佛剎,過四殑伽沙數等世界,有世界名得自在,其土有佛,號一寶蓋最上如來、應供、正等正覺,今現住彼教化利益。
「迦葉!若有住菩薩乘諸善男子及善女人,聞是一寶蓋最上如來、應供、正等正覺名號,能稱念受持者,是人轉生得宿命智,不于下劣族姓中生,不于貧窶族姓中生,在在所生而悉于彼王宮中生,所生之處無母障難、無父障難,無富貴難、無疾病難,當得不退轉于阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,三十千劫中背于生死,近證阿耨多羅三藐三菩提果。
「複次,迦葉!東方去此佛剎,過五殑伽沙數等世界,有世界名清凈藏,其土有佛號定最上吉祥如來、應供、正等正覺,今現住彼教化利益。
「迦葉!彼定最上吉祥如來、應供、正等正覺,往昔修行菩薩道時發大誓願,愿我當來得成佛時,若有住菩薩乘諸善男子及善女人,聞我名號能稱念受持者,是人世世生生常得出家,得出家已而悉獲于千三摩地,一一三摩地中復證百千俱胝那庾多三摩地門,彼之所得諸三摩地永不散失。能於過去已入涅槃十千佛所瞻禮聽法,所有現在未來世中見佛聽法,亦復如是,

'Furthermore, Kashyapa! Going east from this Buddha-field, passing through worlds as numerous as four Ganges sands, there is a world named 'Attained Freedom,' where there is a Buddha named One Jewel Canopy Supreme Tathagata (Eka-ratna-chatra-uttama-tathagata), Worthy of Offerings (Arhat), Perfectly Enlightened One (Samyak-sambuddha), who now resides there teaching and benefiting beings.
'Kashyapa! If there are good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva Vehicle, who hear the name of this One Jewel Canopy Supreme Tathagata, Worthy of Offerings, Perfectly Enlightened One, and are able to recite and uphold it, that person will be reborn with the knowledge of past lives, will not be born into inferior families, nor will they be born into impoverished families. Wherever they are born, they will be born in royal palaces. In their place of birth, there will be no obstacles from their mother, no obstacles from their father, no obstacles of wealth and nobility, and no obstacles of illness. They will ultimately not regress from Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, turning away from the cycle of birth and death within thirty thousand kalpas, and approaching the attainment of the fruit of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi.
'Furthermore, Kashyapa! Going east from this Buddha-field, passing through worlds as numerous as five Ganges sands, there is a world named 'Pure Treasury,' where there is a Buddha named Samadhi Supreme Auspicious Tathagata (Samadhi-uttama-mangala-tathagata), Worthy of Offerings, Perfectly Enlightened One, who now resides there teaching and benefiting beings.
'Kashyapa! That Samadhi Supreme Auspicious Tathagata, Worthy of Offerings, Perfectly Enlightened One, when practicing the Bodhisattva path in the past, made a great vow: 'When I attain Buddhahood in the future, if there are good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva Vehicle, who hear my name and are able to recite and uphold it, that person will always be able to leave home in every lifetime. After leaving home, they will obtain a thousand samadhis (meditative absorptions), and in each samadhi, they will attain hundreds of thousands of kotis of nayutas (hundreds of thousands of billions) of samadhi doors. These samadhis they have attained will never be lost. They will be able to pay homage and listen to the Dharma from ten thousand Buddhas who have already entered Nirvana in the past. Likewise, they will see Buddhas and listen to the Dharma in all present and future lives.'

「複次,迦葉!東方去此佛剎,過六殑伽沙數等世界,有世界名寶莊嚴,其土有佛,號寶輪光明高勝吉祥王如來、應供、正等正覺,今現住彼教化利益。
「迦葉!若有住菩薩乘諸善男子及善女人,聞是寶輪光明高勝吉祥王如來、應供、正等正覺名號,能稱念受持者,是人轉生得宿命智,有念有慧諸相圓滿,當得成就信順之語,獲得無斷語言辯才。迦葉!是人能于天人世間一切辯才之中,不為他所退怯間斷,常得語言辯才無斷。又善男子及善女人,若能稱念彼佛名者,是人聽法之時,得佛聖相為現其前,若於諸法昔所未聞,隨所受學,即時獲得無邊俱胝那庾多百千隨轉陀羅尼;又此閻浮提中,一切有情隨所樂求而悉能知,然後如其信解善為說法,當得不退轉于阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,阿僧祇俱胝那庾多百千劫中背于生死,而能攝集無量福蘊。

【English Translation】 English version They will attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (unexcelled complete enlightenment), and in life after life, throughout thousands of kalpas, they will turn away from birth and death, and will soon realize the fruit of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. 'Kashyapa (a disciple of the Buddha), if there are good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva path, and who hear the name of the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, 'The Most Auspicious and Supreme Settled One', and are able to recite and uphold it, then all their wishes will be fulfilled.' 'Furthermore, Kashyapa! To the east of this Buddha-field, beyond six Ganges river sands of worlds, there is a world named 'Jewel Adornment'. If there are good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva path, and who hear the name of the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, 'Jewel Wheel Light, Exalted and Auspicious King', and are able to recite and uphold it, then they will be reborn with the knowledge of past lives, possessing mindfulness and wisdom, and all their characteristics will be complete. They will attain words of faith and accord, and will gain unobstructed eloquence. Kashyapa! This person, among all the eloquence of gods and humans, will not be intimidated or interrupted by others, and will always have unobstructed eloquence. Furthermore, if good men and good women are able to recite the name of that Buddha, when they listen to the Dharma, they will see the holy form of the Buddha appear before them. If they have not heard of certain dharmas before, as they receive teachings and learn, they will immediately obtain countless kotis of nayutas of hundreds of thousands of Dharanis (mantras that hold the essence of teachings). Moreover, in this Jambudvipa (the world we live in), they will know what all sentient beings desire, and then, according to their understanding and faith, they will skillfully teach them the Dharma. They will attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, and in asamkhya kotis of nayutas of hundreds of thousands of kalpas, they will turn away from birth and death, and will be able to accumulate immeasurable merit.' In that land, there is a Buddha named Boundless Footsteps Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, who is now dwelling there, teaching and benefiting beings. 「Kashyapa! If there are good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva Vehicle, and who hear the name of that Boundless Footsteps Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, and are able to recite and uphold it, such a person will be reborn with the knowledge of past lives, and will attain the Moon-like Purity Bodhisattva Samadhi. Having abided in this Samadhi, all the Buddhas, World Honored Ones, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River in the east, will be seen in person. Likewise, in the south, west, north, the four intermediate directions, above and below, throughout the ten directions, all the Buddhas, World Honored Ones, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River in each of these directions, will be seen. And in the presence of those Buddhas, World Honored Ones, they will be able to understand the Dharma they hear, and will always encounter the Buddhas when they appear in the world. At all times, they will not be separated from the Buddhas, World Honored Ones, until they attain the ultimate limit of Bodhi, and will never regress from Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. In that land, there is a Buddha named Boundless Fragrance, Supreme King Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, who is now dwelling there, teaching and benefiting beings. 「Kashyapa! That Boundless Fragrance, Supreme King Tathagata, when he was practicing the Bodhisattva path in the past, made a great vow: 『When I attain Buddhahood in the future, if there are good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva Vehicle, and who hear my name and are able to recite and uphold it, such a person will obtain many merits: that is, in all places, wherever they are born, they will obtain the knowledge of past lives; their pure conduct will be complete, and they will possess the thirty-two marks of a great man, adorning their body; and also』
復余佛剎中蒙光照觸者,皆悉來集,我為彼等圓滿一切菩提勝行。又復若此,大地大火充滿普遍燒然,火燒然已,大地出現種種珍寶,諸來求者而周給之,然彼一切亦無少分差動之相,當得不退轉于阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,三十千劫中背于生死,而能攝集無量福蘊。
「複次,迦葉!南方去此佛剎,過一殑伽沙數等世界(此下合有世界之名,梵本元闕),彼土有佛,號寶上如來、應供、正等正覺,今現住彼教化利益。
「迦葉!若有住菩薩乘諸善男子及善女人,聞彼寶上如來、應供、正等正覺名號,能稱念受持者,是人轉生得宿命智,又復當生在母胎中即得見佛,彼佛勸贊作如是言:『善男子!汝當成熟阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,故速出母胎。』千劫之中背于生死,而能攝集無量福蘊。

「複次,迦葉!北方去此佛剎,過四十千世界,有世界名有寶,彼土有佛,號寶開花普耀吉祥如來、應供、正等正覺,今現住彼教化利益。

【English Translation】 English version: 'If one hears the name of that Tathagata while in the womb, that person will not be reborn as a woman in their next life; upon the end of this life, they will be reborn as a man. Why is this? It is because they have heard the name of the Tathagata, who possesses such great spiritual powers and majestic virtue, and are able to uphold it.'
At that time, the World Honored One spoke the following verse:
'If a woman is in the womb, and hears the excellent name of the Buddha, the Great Sage, that person, having transformed from a female body, will become a wise man; attaining the unsurpassed Great Bodhi, benefiting all sentient beings, able to guide all beings in the heavens and in the human realm.'
'Furthermore, Kashyapa (name of a disciple of the Buddha)! If there are good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva path, and who hear the name of that Tathagata and are able to recite and uphold it, that person will turn away from birth and death for countless kalpas (eons), and will be able to accumulate immeasurable merit, drawing near to the attainment of the fruit of Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (unexcelled perfect enlightenment).'
'Furthermore, Kashyapa! To the north, beyond forty thousand worlds from this Buddha-land, there is a world named 'Having Treasures'. In that land, there is a Buddha named 'Treasure Blossom Universally Shining Auspicious Tathagata (one of the ten titles of a Buddha, meaning the one who is worthy of offerings, the perfectly enlightened one), Arhat (one of the ten titles of a Buddha, meaning the one who is worthy of offerings), Samyak-sambuddha (one of the ten titles of a Buddha, meaning the perfectly enlightened one)', who is now residing there, teaching and benefiting beings.'
'Kashyapa! If there are good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva path, and who hear the name of Treasure Blossom Universally Shining Auspicious Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, and are able to recite and uphold it, that person will be reborn with the knowledge of past lives, will attain the Samadhi (meditative state) of Bodhisattva Treasure Moon, and having abided in this Samadhi, will be able to understand the languages and sounds of all sentient beings, will receive the Buddha's blessing, and will achieve unimpeded eloquence. If there are sentient beings who desire to see them, they can proclaim the Dharma in the sky, and that person can manifest at will; moreover, all sentient beings in this Jambudvipa (the world we inhabit), whatever sounds they wish to hear, that person will know each one. 「迦葉!若有住菩薩乘諸善男子及善女人,聞彼寶勝如來、應供、正等正覺名號,能稱念受持者,是人能生多種福蘊。
「迦葉!正使住菩薩乘諸善男子及善女人,廣集珍寶其積量如須彌山王,以如是相行於佈施,廣大奉獻諸佛世尊,如是行施經俱胝那庾多百千歲中曾無間斷;又若有人聞彼寶勝如來、應供、正等正覺名號,能稱念受持者,前之佈施無量功德,比是功德百分不及一,千分不及一,百千分不及一,阿僧祇分不及一,算分喻分皆不及一。」

「所有東方諸佛剎, 南方西方及北方, 諸方現住諸世尊, 光照眾生作利益。 若時非時悉應知, 晝夜常起尊重想, 合掌虔恭發志誠,

【English Translation】 English version Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment), turning away from birth and death for sixty thousand kalpas.
'Furthermore, Kashyapa (name of a Buddha's disciple)! Going east from this Buddha-land, passing sixty thousand worlds, there is a world named Many Treasures. In that land, there is a Buddha named Ratnagarbha Tathagata (Thus Come One), Arhat (Worthy One), Samyak-sambuddha (Perfectly Enlightened One), who now dwells there, teaching and benefiting beings.'
'Kashyapa! If there are good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva Vehicle, and who hear the name of Ratnagarbha Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, and are able to recite and uphold it, these people will be reborn with the knowledge of past lives (ability to know past lives), and will achieve the seven factors of enlightenment (seven factors of awakening).'
'Furthermore, Kashyapa, going east from this Buddha-land, passing asamkhya (countless) worlds, there is a world named Jewel Radiance. In that land, there is a Buddha named Ratnavijaya Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, who now dwells there, teaching and transforming beings.'
'Kashyapa! If there are good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva Vehicle, and who hear the name of Ratnavijaya Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, and are able to recite and uphold it, these people will generate many accumulations of merit.'
'Kashyapa! Even if there are good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva Vehicle, who widely gather treasures, their quantity like Mount Sumeru (mythical mountain), and use these to perform acts of giving, extensively offering to all the Buddhas, and continue such giving for kotinayuta (extremely many) hundreds of thousands of years without interruption; and if there is someone who hears the name of Ratnavijaya Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, and is able to recite and uphold it, the immeasurable merit of the previous giving is not even one percent, one thousandth, one hundred thousandth, one asamkhya part, or any calculable or comparable part of this merit.'
At that time, the World Honored One spoke in verse:
'All the Buddha-lands in the east, south, west, and north, All the World Honored Ones dwelling in all directions, illuminate beings and bring benefit. Whether it is the right time or not, one should know, day and night, always arise with respect, Join palms together with reverence and sincerity,'
信禮最上人中勝。 何能知名而表了, 意想禮奉人中尊, 所謂于其千劫中, 極難得值佛出世。 若欲恭敬于諸佛, 為求無上菩提者, 聞佛所說諸佛名, 應當于彼常歸命。 我今無復諸所求, 唯求佛智中出生, 于彼所得眾善根, 迴向佛智不思議。 若人慾供于諸佛, 佛不思議常作意, 彼諸佛名得聞已, 當爲他人廣宣說。 欲令俱胝眾生類, 出離二有得解脫, 彼諸佛名得聞已, 受持不復生人間。 欲令俱胝諸佛剎, 能以足指而震動, 彼諸佛名得聞已, 受持廣為多人說。 若曾供養于諸佛, 彼聞佛名得受持, 非一非十二十生, 此即多生種善本。 若聞佛名能受持, 若以河沙金寶施, 較量受持佛名人, 福蘊百分不及一。 若聞佛名受持者, 當得最上人身相, 妙色端嚴處世間, 出家堪受人天供。」
佛說此經已,彼諸苾芻、諸大菩薩摩訶薩眾,尊者大迦葉,並諸世間天、人、阿修羅、乾闥婆等,聞佛所說,皆大歡喜,信受奉行。

【English Translation】 English version I believe and pay homage to the most supreme among humans. How can one know and express it? Only by imagining and paying homage to the most honored among humans, Because in a thousand kalpas (aeons), it is extremely rare to encounter a Buddha appearing in the world. If one wishes to revere all Buddhas, and seeks the unsurpassed Bodhi (enlightenment), Having heard the names of all Buddhas spoken by the Buddha, one should always take refuge in them. I now have no other desires, only to be born from the wisdom of the Buddha, And I dedicate all the roots of goodness I have obtained to the inconceivable wisdom of the Buddha. If someone wishes to make offerings to all Buddhas, and constantly keeps the inconceivable nature of the Buddha in mind, When they hear the names of these Buddhas, they should widely proclaim them to others. Wishing to liberate countless beings from the two existences (of form and formlessness), and attain liberation, When they hear the names of these Buddhas, and uphold them, they will not be reborn in the human realm again. Wishing to make countless Buddha-lands tremble with a touch of a toe, When they hear the names of these Buddhas, they should uphold them and widely proclaim them to many. If one has ever made offerings to all Buddhas, and they hear and uphold the names of the Buddhas, Not just for one, ten, or twenty lives, this is the root of goodness planted over many lifetimes. If one hears and upholds the names of the Buddhas, even if one gives away gold and jewels as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, Compared to the person who upholds the names of the Buddhas, the accumulation of merit is not even one percent. If one hears and upholds the names of the Buddhas, they will obtain the most excellent human form, With a beautiful and dignified appearance in the world, and upon leaving home, they will be worthy of receiving offerings from humans and gods. After the Buddha finished speaking this sutra, those Bhikshus (monks), all the great Bodhisattva Mahasattvas (great enlightened beings), the Venerable Mahakasyapa, and the worldly gods, humans, Asuras (demigods), Gandharvas (celestial musicians), etc., having heard what the Buddha said, were all greatly delighted, believed, and practiced accordingly. The Sutra of the Great Vehicle, the Great and Vast Buddha Crown Sutra, Volume Two
