如是我聞:

一時,佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園,與大比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷,大菩薩眾,及大諸天、帝釋天王、大梵天王、四天大王,天、龍、夜叉、乾闥婆、阿修羅、迦樓羅、緊那羅、摩睺羅伽,人、非人等,無量百千大眾,前後圍繞,恭敬供養,尊重讚歎。爾時,世尊為諸大眾宣說妙法。

時,尊者舍利弗即從坐起,整理衣服,右膝著地,合十指掌,而白佛言:「唯愿世尊,演說十方現在世界諸佛名號。所以者何?若有善男子、善女人,聞是現在諸佛名者,生大功德,發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心,得不退轉,亦當速成阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。」

爾時,佛告舍利弗:「善哉,善哉!汝今為欲利益安樂諸大眾故,覆護憐愍諸眾生故,令諸眾生所求滿故,欲令一切生歡喜故,亦為未來諸菩薩等增善根故,善哉,善哉!生善覺觀,作如是問。如是問者,皆是如來威神之力。舍利弗!汝今諦聽,若有善男子、善女人,聞是現在諸佛名號,能受持者,一切魔眾於是人所不得其便,一切惡人亦不得便,獲得無量無邊甚深功德,隨所生處具菩薩行,得宿命

【English Translation】 English version Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Park in Śrāvastī, with a great assembly of monks, nuns, male lay devotees (upāsaka), female lay devotees (upāsikā), great Bodhisattvas, as well as great gods, Śakra devānām indraḥ, Mahābrahmā, the Four Great Kings (Caturmahārājakāyika), gods, nāgas, yakṣas, gandharvas, asuras, garuḍas, kiṃnaras, mahoragas, humans, non-humans, and countless hundreds of thousands of beings, surrounded, respectfully making offerings, honoring, and praising. At that time, the World Honored One was expounding the wonderful Dharma to the assembly. Then, the Venerable Śāriputra rose from his seat, arranged his robe, knelt on his right knee, joined his palms, and said to the Buddha: 'May the World Honored One, please explain the names of the Buddhas in the present worlds of the ten directions. Why is this so? If good men and good women hear the names of these present Buddhas, they will generate great merit, arouse the mind of anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi (supreme perfect enlightenment), attain non-retrogression, and will also quickly achieve anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi.' At that time, the Buddha said to Śāriputra: 'Excellent, excellent! You now wish to benefit and bring peace to the assembly, to protect and have compassion for all beings, to fulfill the wishes of all beings, to make all beings rejoice, and also to increase the roots of goodness for future Bodhisattvas. Excellent, excellent! You have generated good contemplation and asked such a question. Such a question is due to the power of the Tathagata's majestic virtue. Śāriputra! Now listen carefully, if there are good men and good women who hear the names of these present Buddhas and can uphold them, all the hosts of demons will not be able to take advantage of them, all evil people will not be able to succeed, they will obtain immeasurable and profound merit, wherever they are born they will possess the practice of a Bodhisattva, and they will obtain the knowledge of past lives.'


通,顏容端正、眾相具足,常得親近、供養諸佛,乃至速成阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。何以故?舍利弗!若有聞是諸佛名號,受持讀誦、恭敬禮拜、書寫供養、展轉教他,所得功德無量無邊。」

爾時,世尊即說偈言:

「若能持此佛名者,  此人不為刀所傷,  毒不能害、火不燒,  亦不墮於八難中;  得見大智金色光,  三十二相諸法王,  既得見於諸佛已,  無量供養彼諸佛。  其目不盲、不赤黃,  身不傴曲、不一眼,  得那羅延大力身,  受持佛名報如是。  常得天龍及夜叉、  乾闥婆等所供養,  怨家惡人不能害,  受持佛名報如是。  汝今諦聽,舍利弗!  如我所說微妙語,  若有聞此佛名者,  則得近於菩提道。  是故汝今至心聽,  十方世界大法王,  能拔眾生煩惱刺,  譬如藥樹除眾病,  愚癡盲瞑凡夫等,  施與菩薩智慧眼;  又如行施勝菩薩,  無量千億恒沙界,  于中悉滿閻浮金,  晝夜六時無休息,  施與大悲大導師;  又以栴檀滿百剎,  幡蓋衣服如恒沙,  無量千萬億劫中,  一心而以用佈施;  復於一佛國土中,  滿中建立諸佛塔,  於十劫中而供養,  如恒河沙等諸佛;  又造高塔如須

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本 通達,容貌端正,具備各種殊勝的相好,常常能夠親近、供養諸佛,乃至迅速成就阿耨多羅三藐三菩提(無上正等正覺)。為什麼呢?舍利弗(佛陀的十大弟子之一)!如果有人聽聞這些佛的名號,受持、讀誦、恭敬禮拜、書寫供養、輾轉教導他人,所獲得的功德是無量無邊的。 那時,世尊即說偈語: 『如果能夠受持這些佛的名號,這個人不會被刀所傷害,毒藥不能侵害,火不能焚燒,也不會墮入八難之中;能夠見到具有大智慧的金色光芒,具足三十二相的諸法之王,既然能夠見到諸佛,就能無量地供養那些諸佛。他們的眼睛不會失明,也不會發紅髮黃,身體不會彎曲,也不會是獨眼,能夠得到那羅延(佛教護法神)的大力之身,受持佛名所得到的果報就是這樣。常常能夠得到天龍(天上的龍族)以及夜叉(佛教護法神)、乾闥婆(天上的樂神)等的供養,怨家惡人不能夠加害,受持佛名所得到的果報就是這樣。你現在仔細聽,舍利弗!就像我所說的微妙之語,如果有人聽聞這些佛的名號,就能夠接近菩提之道。所以你現在要至誠地聽,十方世界的大法王,能夠拔除眾生煩惱的刺,就像藥樹能夠去除各種疾病,對於愚癡盲目的凡夫等,施與菩薩的智慧之眼;又像行佈施的殊勝菩薩,在無量千億恒河沙數的世界中,全部充滿閻浮金(一種黃金),日夜六時沒有休息,用來佈施給大悲大導師;又用栴檀(一種香木)充滿一百個佛剎(佛的國土),幡蓋衣服像恒河沙數一樣多,在無量千萬億劫中,一心一意地用來佈施;又在一個佛的國土中,充滿建立的各種佛塔,在十劫中供養,像恒河沙數一樣多的諸佛;又建造高塔像須彌山(佛教中的聖山)一樣高,』

【English Translation】 English version Accomplished, with a dignified countenance and all auspicious marks, they are always able to approach and make offerings to all Buddhas, and even quickly attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (supreme perfect enlightenment). Why is this so? Shariputra (one of the Buddha's ten great disciples)! If there are those who hear the names of these Buddhas, uphold, recite, respectfully bow, write, make offerings, and pass on the teachings to others, the merits they obtain are immeasurable and boundless. At that time, the World Honored One spoke these verses: 'If one can uphold these Buddha's names, this person will not be harmed by swords, poison cannot injure them, fire cannot burn them, nor will they fall into the eight difficulties; they will be able to see the golden light of great wisdom, the king of all dharmas with the thirty-two marks, having seen the Buddhas, they will make limitless offerings to those Buddhas. Their eyes will not be blind, nor red or yellow, their bodies will not be hunched, nor will they be one-eyed, they will obtain the powerful body of Narayana (a Buddhist guardian deity), such is the reward for upholding the Buddha's name. They will always receive offerings from devas (gods) and nagas (dragons), yakshas (Buddhist guardian deities), gandharvas (celestial musicians), and others, enemies and evil people cannot harm them, such is the reward for upholding the Buddha's name. Now listen carefully, Shariputra! Like the subtle words I have spoken, if there are those who hear these Buddha's names, they will be able to approach the path of Bodhi. Therefore, you should now listen with utmost sincerity, the great Dharma Kings of the ten directions, who can remove the thorns of afflictions from sentient beings, like a medicinal tree that can remove all diseases, for the ignorant and blind ordinary people, they bestow the wisdom eyes of Bodhisattvas; also like the excellent Bodhisattvas who practice giving, in immeasurable billions of Ganges sand-like worlds, all filled with Jambudvipa gold (a type of gold), day and night, six times without rest, they use it to give to the great compassionate guide; also using sandalwood (a type of fragrant wood) to fill a hundred Buddha-lands (Buddha's realms), banners and clothing like the sands of the Ganges, in immeasurable millions of eons, with one mind they use it for giving; also in one Buddha-land, filled with various stupas (Buddhist shrines) that are built, for ten eons they make offerings, to Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges; also building tall stupas as high as Mount Sumeru (a sacred mountain in Buddhism),'


彌,  其塔悉以七寶成,  如是遍滿十千剎,  其數三十有六億,  以赤栴檀及真珠,  造作傘蓋供養具,  一一傘蓋能遍覆,  百佛世界等諸國,  真珠、旒蘇齊佛剎,  其數猶如恒河沙,  于空復造金傘蓋,  其數亦如恒河沙,  色如紫磨真金像,  各各遍照三千界,  一一塔中設供養,  無量無邊無數劫。  如上所作諸功德,  不及能發菩提心。  如是能發菩提心,  住不放逸清凈戒,  不及能持此佛名。  如是能持此佛名,  又能憐愍諸眾生,  所在諸方廣流佈,  教令受持佛名者,  彼於一切眾生中,  為作福田猶如來。」

爾時,佛告舍利弗:「若有一心受持、讀誦、憶念不忘此佛名者,所生貪慾、瞋恚、愚癡諸怖畏等即得除滅,未生貪慾、瞋恚、愚癡諸怖畏者能令不生。」

爾時,世尊即說佛名:

「南無月光佛 南無阿閦佛 南無大莊嚴佛 南無多伽羅香佛 南無常照曜佛 南無栴檀德佛 南無最上佛 南無蓮花幢佛 南無蓮華生佛 南無寶聚佛 南無阿伽樓香佛 南無大精進佛 南無栴檀德佛 南無海佛 南無巨海佛 南無幢德佛 南無梵德佛 南無大香佛 南無大生佛 南無寶輞佛 南無阿彌陀佛 南無大施德佛 南

這時,佛告訴舍利弗(Śāriputra,佛陀的十大弟子之一):『如果有人一心受持、讀誦、憶念不忘這佛的名號,所產生的貪慾、瞋恚、愚癡等各種恐懼都能消除,未產生的貪慾、瞋恚、愚癡等各種恐懼能令不產生。』

這時,世尊即說出佛的名號:

【English Translation】 English version 'Mi', Those pagodas are all made of seven treasures, and they are spread throughout ten thousand kṣetras (Buddha-fields, Buddhist cosmological worlds), Their number is thirty-six billion, made with red sandalwood and pearls, Making parasols and other offerings, each parasol can cover, A hundred Buddha-worlds and other countries, pearls and tassels covering the Buddha-fields, Their number is like the sands of the Ganges River, and in the sky, golden parasols are also built, Their number is also like the sands of the Ganges River, their color like that of a Jāmbū gold statue, Each illuminates the three thousand great chiliocosms, and in each pagoda, offerings are made, For immeasurable, boundless, countless kalpas (eons). The merits made as described above, Are not comparable to the ability to generate bodhicitta (the mind of enlightenment). Like this, being able to generate bodhicitta, Dwelling in the pure precepts of non-negligence, is not comparable to being able to uphold this Buddha's name. Like this, being able to uphold this Buddha's name, and also being able to have compassion for all sentient beings, Spreading it widely in all places, teaching people to uphold the Buddha's name, Such a person, among all sentient beings, becomes a field of merit like the Tathāgata (the thus-gone one, an epithet of the Buddha).'

At that time, the Buddha told Śāriputra (one of the Buddha's ten great disciples): 'If there is someone who single-mindedly upholds, recites, and remembers this Buddha's name without forgetting, the arising of greed, hatred, ignorance, and all fears will be eliminated, and the greed, hatred, ignorance, and all fears that have not yet arisen will be prevented from arising.'

At that time, the World Honored One then spoke the names of the Buddhas:

'Namo Candrasūrya-pradīpa Buddha, Namo Akṣobhya Buddha, Namo Mahāvyūha Buddha, Namo Tagaracandanagandha Buddha, Namo Sadābhipratāpa Buddha, Namo Candanakirti Buddha, Namo Uttama Buddha, Namo Padmaketu Buddha, Namo Padmasambhava Buddha, Namo Ratnakūṭa Buddha, Namo Agurucandanagandha Buddha, Namo Mahāvirya Buddha, Namo Candanakirti Buddha, Namo Sāgara Buddha, Namo Mahāsāgara Buddha, Namo Ketukirti Buddha, Namo Brahmakirti Buddha, Namo Mahāgandha Buddha, Namo Mahābhava Buddha, Namo Ratnacakra Buddha, Namo Amitābha Buddha, Namo Mahādānakirti Buddha.'

「此諸佛名等,  能救護世間。  初夜誦一遍,  思念佛而眠,  中夜誦一遍,  后夜亦復然,  如是晝三時,  于初、中、後分,  一時誦一遍,  精勤不放逸。  誦此佛名故,  常得見好夢,  惡鬼及惡人,  不能得其便。  是故此佛名,  能救護世間,  一切天樂神、  夜叉、鳩槃茶、  羅剎諸鬼神,  不能起障礙。  於此百佛名,  常能念持者,  一切諸魔事,  不能得其便。」  爾時天帝釋,  三十三天王,  整理身衣服,  胡跪而合掌,  白佛言:「世尊!  我等常衛護,  受持佛名者,  及四天大王,  亦常護于彼,  受持佛名者。  唯除必定業,  不可得救護,  一切天人中,  無能加惡者。」  爾時一切智,  出大微妙聲,  八種和雅音,  善美眾樂聞,  普告諸大眾:  「速受此佛名,  於十方世界,  所在廣流佈,  而作大法施,  斷除眾生疑。」  大聖釋迦文,  演說此法時,  三百諸比丘,  悉得諸漏盡;  復有比丘尼,  其數有四十,  一切漏法盡,  逮得阿羅漢;  復有優婆塞,  其數滿五千,

【English Translation】 English version Homage to Deva Buddha (Buddha of Merit), Homage to Namo Pulyanhua Buddha (Buddha as pure as a universal lotus), Homage to Namo Pingdengde Buddha (Buddha of Equal Merit), Homage to Namo Longhujiuji Buddha (Buddha protected by dragons, saving beings). 'These names of Buddhas can protect the world. Recite them once in the early night, thinking of the Buddha as you sleep, Recite them once in the middle of the night, and again in the late night, Likewise, during the three periods of the day, in the early, middle, and late parts, Recite them once in each period, diligently and without negligence. Because of reciting these names of Buddhas, one will often have good dreams, Evil ghosts and evil people cannot harm them. We always protect, Those who uphold the names of the Buddhas, and the Four Great Kings (Four Heavenly Kings), Also always protect them, those who uphold the names of the Buddhas. Except for the karma that must be endured, which cannot be saved, Among all gods and humans, none can inflict evil upon them.' At that time, the All-Knowing One (Buddha), emitted a great and subtle sound, With eight harmonious and elegant tones, beautiful and pleasing to hear, Universally announced to the assembly: 'Quickly receive these names of Buddhas, In the ten directions of the world, widely spread them, And make it a great Dharma offering, cutting off the doubts of sentient beings.' When the Great Sage Sakyamuni (Buddha) expounded this Dharma, Three hundred Bhikkhus (monks) all attained the exhaustion of all outflows; There were also Bhikkhunis (nuns), forty in number, All outflows were exhausted, and they attained Arhatship; There were also Upasakas (lay male devotees), numbering five thousand,


住勝歡喜心,  獲果須陀洹;  復有優婆夷,  其數千一百,  皆遠離塵垢,  而得法眼凈;  復有大天王,  無量千萬眾,  於法王法中,  得清凈法眼;  如彼恒河沙,  分之為三分,  菩薩如一分,  悉獲無生忍。  三千大千剎,  是時六震動,  諸山及高峰,  大地皆震吼。  于上虛空中,  雨諸天妙花,  天、龍、非人等,  喜聲悉遍滿。  爾時帝釋天、  目連、離波多、  蛇奴、劫賓那、  摩訶迦旃延,  及摩訶迦葉、  漚樓頻迦葉,  乃至那迦葉、  富樓彌多羅、  善吉、不見空、  阿難陀、跋提、  沓婆摩羅子,  如是等大眾,  二萬五千人,  同聲白佛言: 「釋師子法王,  我盡精進力,  皆悉無有餘,  以諸神通力,  于無量世界,  化作無量身,  過無量佛剎,  常說此佛名,  亦如佛所說。」  爾時佛世尊,  為令眾見故,  示現大神通,  現無量億剎,  以佛神通力,  見釋師子王,  處處而遍滿,  說此修多羅,  亦如過去佛,  所說無差別。  佛告諸大眾: 「我于無量劫,  久善修神通,  于無上佛法,  決定莫生疑。  安隱眾生故,  速說此佛名

The three thousand great chiliocosms shook in six ways at that time, all the mountains and peaks, and the earth roared. In the sky above, various wonderful celestial flowers rained down, and the sounds of joy filled the heavens, dragons, and non-humans. For the sake of the peace of sentient beings, quickly proclaim the name of this Buddha.'

爾時,佛告慧命舍利弗:「若有善男子、善女人聞佛名已,深信清凈、發菩提心,愛樂受持、晝夜精勤,讀誦書寫、廣為他說,得無量無邊廣大功德,得不退轉乃至速成阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,一切眾魔不能嬈亂。」

佛說是經已,慧命舍利弗,釋梵四王,比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷,天、龍、夜叉、乾闥婆、阿修羅等,一切大眾聞此法已,皆大歡喜。

佛說完這部經后,慧命舍利弗,釋(帝釋天)梵(大梵天)四王(四大天王),比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞(男居士)、優婆夷(女居士),天、龍、夜叉(守護神)、乾闥婆(天樂神)、阿修羅(非天)等,一切大眾聽聞此法后,都非常歡喜。

【English Translation】 English version 'May all living beings, forever be free from the suffering of birth and death.'

At that time, the Buddha said to the wise elder Śāriputra: 'If there are good men or good women who, upon hearing the name of the Buddha, deeply believe with pure faith, generate the Bodhi mind (mind of enlightenment), love and accept it, diligently practice day and night, read, recite, write, and widely proclaim it to others, they will obtain immeasurable and boundless great merit, attain the state of non-retrogression, and even quickly achieve Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (supreme perfect enlightenment), and all demons will not be able to disturb them.'

After the Buddha finished speaking this sutra, the wise elder Śāriputra, Śakra (Indra), Brahmā, the Four Heavenly Kings, Bhikṣus (monks), Bhikṣuṇīs (nuns), Upāsakas (male lay devotees), Upāsikās (female lay devotees), Devas (gods), Nāgas (dragons), Yakṣas (guardian spirits), Gandharvas (celestial musicians), Asuras (demigods), and all the great assembly, having heard this Dharma, were all greatly delighted.
