如是我聞:
一時,薄伽梵在王舍城鷲峰山上,與大苾芻眾俱。
爾時,大智舍利子法將中最,哀愍世間,從座而起,偏袒右肩,右膝著地,合掌恭敬,而白佛言:「世尊!我今欲少咨問,愿垂聽許!」
佛告舍利弗:「隨汝所問,我當爲說。」
時,舍利子即以伽他請世尊曰:
「大師所授記, 當來佛下生; 彼號為慈氏, 如前後經說。 唯愿人中尊, 伽陀重分別; 彼神通威德, 我今樂欲聞。」 佛告舍利子: 「應至心諦聽; 當來慈氏尊, 為汝廣宣說。 爾時大海水, 以漸減三千; 二百逾繕那, 為顯輪王路。 贍部洲縱廣, 有萬逾繕那; 有情住其中, 在處皆充滿。 國土咸富盛, 無罰無災厄; 彼諸男女等, 皆由善業生。 地無諸棘刺, 唯生青軟草; 履踐隨人足, 喻若睹羅綿。 自然出香稻, 美味皆充足; 諸樹生衣服, 眾彩共莊嚴。 樹高三俱舍, 花果常充實;

『大師您所授記的, 當來下生的佛; 他的名號是慈氏(Maitreya), 如前後經典所說。 唯愿人中之尊, 用偈頌再次詳細分別解說; 他的神通威德, 我現在很樂意聽聞。』
佛告訴舍利子:『你應該專心諦聽; 當來慈氏尊(Maitreya), 我為你廣為宣說。 那時大海水, 將逐漸減少三千由旬(yojana); 二百由旬(yojana), 用來顯現輪王(cakravartin)的道路。 贍部洲(Jambudvipa)縱橫廣闊, 有一萬由旬(yojana); 有情眾生居住在其中, 到處都充滿。 國土都富饒興盛, 沒有刑罰,沒有災禍; 那些男女等, 都是由善業所生。 地上沒有荊棘, 只生長柔軟的青草; 踩在上面隨著人的腳, 就像柔軟的兜羅綿一樣。 自然生長出香稻, 美味都充足; 各種樹木生長出衣服, 各種色彩共同莊嚴。 樹高三俱舍(kosa), 花果經常充實;
【English Translation】 English version The Sutra of Maitreya's Descent and Attainment of Buddhahood Spoken by the Buddha
Translated under Imperial Order by the Tang Dynasty Tripitaka Master Yijing
Thus have I heard:
At one time, the Bhagavan (World-Honored One) was on Vulture Peak Mountain in Rajagriha (Wangshecheng), together with a large assembly of bhikshus (monks).
At that time, the greatly wise Sariputra (Sarizi), foremost among the Dharma generals, feeling compassion for the world, arose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, knelt on his right knee, joined his palms in reverence, and said to the Buddha: 'World-Honored One! I now wish to ask a few questions; I hope you will grant me permission to listen!'
The Buddha told Sariputra: 'Ask whatever you wish; I will explain it for you.'
Then, Sariputra used a gatha (verse) to ask the World-Honored One, saying:
'The Buddha who will descend in the future, As prophesied by the Great Master; His name is Maitreya (Cishi), As the previous sutras have said. May the Honored One among humans, Explain it again in detail with a gatha; His supernatural powers and majestic virtue, I am now eager to hear.'
The Buddha told Sariputra: 'You should listen attentively with all your heart; I will extensively explain the coming Maitreya (Cishi) for you. At that time, the ocean water, Will gradually decrease by three thousand yojanas (yujun); Two hundred yojanas (yujun), Will be revealed as the road for the Wheel-Turning King (lunwang). Jambudvipa (Zhanbuzhou) is vast and wide, With ten thousand yojanas (yujun); Sentient beings dwell within it, Everywhere is filled. The lands are all rich and prosperous, Without punishments or disasters; Those men and women, Are all born from good karma. The ground has no thorns, Only soft green grass grows; Stepping on it follows the foot, Like soft cotton. Naturally fragrant rice grows, Delicious flavors are abundant; Various trees grow clothes, Various colors adorn them together. The trees are three kosa (jushe) high, Flowers and fruits are always plentiful;

【English Translation】 English version Luozang, located in Anchu Qiantuoguo (a country name); In the territory of Poluonaisi (Varanasi), its Tibetan name is Xiangqu. These four hidden treasures all belong to King Xiangqu; Relying on the accumulation of hundreds of blessings, the karmic rewards can all be achieved. The minister assisting the king is the Brahmin Shanjing; Proficient in the Four Vedas, learned and knowledgeable, serving as the national teacher. Widely versed in various miscellaneous treatises, good at teaching, with outstanding memory; There is nothing he does not thoroughly master in the studies of interpretation and grammar. He has a daughter named Jingmiao, who is the minister's wife; Her reputation is beautiful, her appearance is dignified and beautiful, and all who see her are delighted. The great man Cishi (Maitreya Bodhisattva), bid farewell to Xizutian (Tushita Heaven); Coming to be born in this lady's womb, as his last place of birth. The lady conceived this great sage, completing ten months; Then the mother of the Compassionate One went to the beautiful garden. Arriving in that beautiful garden, neither sitting nor lying down; Slowly standing and climbing the flower tree, soon the supreme Compassionate One was born. At that time, the most supreme Compassionate One, after being born from his mother's right side; Like the sun coming out of the clouds, radiating great light. Not stained by the filth of the placenta, like a lotus flower emerging from the water; The light spread throughout the three realms, all looking up to the radiance of great compassion. When he was born, the Thousand-Eyed Lord Shizhu (Indra); Personally holding the Bodhisattva, joyfully welcoming the Two-Footed Venerable. The Bodhisattva at this time, naturally walked seven steps; And at the places where his feet stepped, all produced precious lotus flowers. Looking all around in the ten directions, he told the gods, humans, and the masses; This body of mine is the last time, no longer subject to birth, entering Nirvana. Dragons descended cool and refreshing water, bathing the body of great compassion; The gods scattered wonderful and beautiful flowers, sprinkling them throughout the void. The gods held white parasols, sheltering the Great Compassionate One; Each generated a rare and precious mind, protecting the Bodhisattva. The nurse held the Bodhisattva, possessing the thirty-two marks; Complete with all kinds of light.

【English Translation】 English version (The attendant)held and gave (Maitreya)to his mother. The charioteer advanced the carved chariot, all adorned with treasures; Mother and child ascended into it, with all the devas jointly carrying the carriage. Thousands of wonderful musical instruments guided (them)back to the palace; Maitreya(Maitreya)entered the capital city, and celestial flowers fell like rain. On the day of Maitreya's(Maitreya)birth, all the pregnant concubines; Universally obtained peace of body, and all gave birth to wise sons. Sudharma(Sudharma), the father of Maitreya(Maitreya), beheld his son's wondrous countenance; Endowed with the thirty-two marks, his heart arose with great joy. The father, relying on the method of divination, knew that his son had two destinies; In the world, he would become a Chakravartin king; renouncing the world, he would attain perfect enlightenment. Since the Bodhisattva(Bodhisattva)had grown up, he compassionately pitied all sentient beings; In the midst of all kinds of suffering and hardship, the cycle of rebirth continues without ceasing. (Maitreya Bodhisattva's)golden light shone brightly, and his voice was like the great Brahma's sound; His eyes were like blue lotus petals, and all parts of his body were perfectly complete. His height was eighty cubits, and the width of his shoulders was twenty cubits; The width of his face was half the width of his shoulders, and his appearance was as dignified as the full moon. The Bodhisattva(Bodhisattva)was proficient in all arts, and skilled at teaching students; The children and beginners who came to study numbered eighty-four thousand. At that time, King Sankha(Sankha)erected a seven-jeweled banner; The banner was seventy fathoms high and sixty fathoms wide. After the jeweled banner was built, the king generated a great heart of generosity; Giving it to the Brahmins, he equally established an unobstructed assembly. At that time, the Brahmins numbered one thousand; Having obtained this wonderful jeweled banner, they demolished it in a short time. Having seen this, the Bodhisattva(Bodhisattva)thought that all worldly things were like this; Bound by the suffering of birth and death, he contemplated seeking a way to escape. He sincerely prayed for the path of extinction, renounced the world, and left home; In the midst of birth, old age, sickness, and death, he rescued beings, enabling them to be liberated. Maitreya(Maitreya)made a vow, saying that eighty-four thousand people; All arose with a heart of renunciation, and followed (me)to cultivate pure conduct. On the night of first generating the aspiration, he renounced the world and (left home).

Its branches covered all four directions, its shade covering six Krosha (ancient Indian unit of distance); Maitreya (the compassionate Maitreya Bodhisattva), the Great Compassionate One, attained perfect enlightenment beneath it. Most venerable among humans, possessing the eight Brahma voices; He preached the Dharma, liberating sentient beings, causing them to be free from all afflictions. Suffering and the origin of suffering, all were extinguished; Able to cultivate the Eightfold Path, ascending to the shore of Nirvana. For the pure believers, he expounded the Four Noble Truths; Able to hear this Dharma, sincerely and reverently upholding it. In the wondrous garden, various crowds gathered like clouds; Within a hundred Yojana, relatives and attendants were filled. That Chakravarti (wheel-turning king) Śankha, having heard the profound and subtle Dharma; Exhausted all his treasures, devoutly aspiring to renounce. Not attached to the noble palace life, earnestly seeking liberation; Eighty-four thousand people, all followed him to renounce. Also eighty-four thousand Brahmin (Brahmin) youths; Hearing that the king had renounced the world, they also came to seek renunciation. Or taking refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, respectfully and always staying close; Constantly cultivating all kinds of good deeds, in the next life I will be in my Dharma. Or in the Buddha's Dharma, upholding all the precepts; Well protecting without violation, in the next life I will be in my Dharma. Or to the Sangha of the four directions, giving clothes and food; And offering wonderful medicine, in the next life I will be in my Dharma. Or on the four fasting days, and in the month of miracles; Upholding the eight precepts, in the next life I will be in my Dharma.』 Or with the three kinds of super powers, using the power of magical abilities to record and teach; Transforming and guiding the Shravaka assembly, so that they can all remove afflictions. 佛說彌勒下產生佛經
按《開元錄》,《彌勒下生經》前後六譯,三存三失,而此本亦在三存之一也,則宋藏無此經者,失之耳,今得於丹藏而編入之。

The Sutra of Maitreya's Descent and Attainment of Buddhahood Spoken by the Buddha
According to the Kaiyuan Catalogue, the Sutra of Maitreya's Descent has been translated six times, with three versions surviving and three lost. This version is one of the three surviving ones. The Song Dynasty's Tripitaka did not contain this sutra, indicating it was lost. It has now been found in the Dan Tripitaka and included.
