舍利弗者,是佛第一弟子,以慈心念天下,往到佛所前,長跪叉手問言:「佛常言:『佛去後,當有彌勒來。』愿欲從佛聞之。」
佛言:「彌勒佛欲來出時,閻浮利內地山樹、草木皆焦盡。於今閻浮利地,周匝六十萬里,彌勒出時,閻浮利地東、西長四十萬里,南、北廣三十二萬里,地皆當生五種果蓏,四海內無山陵溪谷,地平如砥,樹木皆長大。
「當是時,人民少貪淫、瞋恚、愚癡者,人民眾多,聚落家居,雞鳴展轉相聞,人民皆壽八萬四千歲,女人五百歲乃行嫁,人民無病痛者。盡天下人有三病:一者、意欲有所得;二者、飢渴;三者、年老。人民面目皆桃花色,人民皆敬重。
「有城名雞頭末,雞頭末城者當王國治,城周匝四百八十里,以土築城,復以板著城,復以金、銀、琉璃、水精、珍寶著城。四面各十二門,門皆刻鏤,復以金、銀、琉璃、水精、珍寶著之。國王名僧羅,四海內皆屬僧羅,行即飛行,所可行處,人民鬼神皆傾側。

佛陀說:『彌勒佛將要出世的時候,閻浮提(Jambudvīpa,我們所居住的這個世界)內地所有的山、樹、草木都將燒盡。如今的閻浮提,周長六十萬里,彌勒出世的時候,閻浮提東西長四十萬里,南北寬三十二萬里,土地上都將生長五種果實,四海之內沒有山陵溪谷,土地平坦如砥,樹木都將高大生長。
『那時,人民很少有貪婪、嗔恨、愚癡的人,人民眾多,聚落家居,雞鳴之聲彼此相聞,人民都壽命八萬四千歲,女子五百歲才出嫁,人民沒有疾病痛苦。整個天下的人只有三種病:一是、意欲有所得;二是、飢渴;三是、年老。人民面容都如桃花般紅潤,人民都互相敬重。
『有一座城名叫雞頭末(Kukkuṭamati),雞頭末城將成為王國的都城,城周長四百八十里,用土築城,再用木板加固城墻,又用金、銀、琉璃、水精、珍寶裝飾城墻。四面各有十二個門,門上都雕刻著花紋,又用金、銀、琉璃、水精、珍寶裝飾。國王名叫僧羅(Saṃgha),四海之內都歸屬於僧羅,他行走時可以飛行,所到之處,人民鬼神都傾身敬畏。

【English Translation】 English version The Buddha Speaks of the Coming of Maitreya Sutra

Śāriputra (the foremost disciple of the Buddha), being the Buddha's first disciple, with a compassionate heart thinking of all under heaven, went to where the Buddha was, knelt with palms together, and asked: 'The Buddha often says: 'After the Buddha's departure, Maitreya (the future Buddha) will come.' I wish to hear about this from the Buddha.'
The Buddha said: 'When Maitreya Buddha is about to appear, all the mountains, trees, and vegetation in Jambudvīpa (the world we inhabit) will be burned to ashes. Now, Jambudvīpa is six hundred thousand leagues in circumference. When Maitreya appears, Jambudvīpa will be four hundred thousand leagues long from east to west, and three hundred and twenty thousand leagues wide from north to south. The land will produce five kinds of fruits, and within the four seas there will be no mountains, hills, streams, or valleys. The land will be as flat as a whetstone, and the trees will all grow tall.
'At that time, people will have little greed, hatred, or delusion. There will be many people, living in settlements and homes, with the sound of roosters crowing heard from one place to another. People will live to be eighty-four thousand years old, and women will marry at five hundred years old. People will have no sickness or pain. All the people in the world will have only three ailments: first, the desire to acquire something; second, hunger and thirst; and third, old age. People's faces will be the color of peach blossoms, and people will all respect each other.
'There will be a city named Kukkuṭamati (Chicken Head End), and Kukkuṭamati will become the capital of the kingdom. The city will be four hundred and eighty leagues in circumference, built with earth and reinforced with wooden planks, and adorned with gold, silver, lapis lazuli, crystal, and jewels. Each of the four sides will have twelve gates, all carved with designs and adorned with gold, silver, lapis lazuli, crystal, and jewels. The king will be named Saṃgha, and all within the four seas will belong to Saṃgha. He will be able to fly when he travels, and wherever he goes, people and spirits will bow in reverence.
'The city will have four treasures: first, gold, guarded by a dragon named Nīlaphon, who is responsible for protecting the gold. The mountain where the dragon lives is named Gandha; second, silver, in that country...'
復有守龍名幡頭;三者、明月珠,所生地處名須漸,守珍龍名賓竭;四者、琉璃,所生城名氾羅那夷。
「有一婆羅門名須凡,當爲彌勒作父。彌勒母名摩訶越題,彌勒當爲作子。彌勒者種當作婆羅門,身有三十二相、八十種好,身長十六丈。彌勒生墮城地,目徹視萬里內,頭中日光照四千里。彌勒得道為佛時,于龍華樹下坐,樹高四十里,廣亦四十里。彌勒得佛時,有八萬四千婆羅門,皆往到彌勒所師事之,則棄家作沙門。彌勒到樹下坐,用四月八日明星出時得佛道。
「國王僧羅聞彌勒得佛,則將八十四王,皆棄國捐王,以國付太子,共到彌勒佛所,皆除鬚髮為沙門。復有千八百婆羅門,皆到彌勒佛所作沙門,彌勒父母亦在其中。復有聖婆羅門千八十四人,皆復到彌勒佛所作沙門。
「國有大豪賢者,名須檀,人呼須達,復呼人民,以黃金持與彌勒佛及諸沙門,名聲日布方遠。須達復將賢善人萬四千人,到彌勒佛所作沙門。
「復有兄弟二人,兄名鼓達,弟名扶蘭,兄弟皆言:『我曹何為是世間?寧可俱到佛所,求作沙門耶!』兄弟皆言:『我善便到彌勒佛所作沙門。』
「復有小女人輩八萬四千人,身皆著好衣、白珠、金銀、瓔珞,俱到彌勒佛所,皆脫著身珍寶以著地,白佛言

國王僧羅(Sengluo)聽說彌勒成佛,就帶著八十四位國王,都捨棄國家和王位,把國家交給太子,一同到彌勒佛那裡,都剃除鬚髮做了沙門。又有千八百位婆羅門,都到彌勒佛那裡做了沙門,彌勒的父母也在其中。又有聖婆羅門千八十四人,也都到彌勒佛那裡做了沙門。
國中有一位大富豪賢者,名叫須檀(Xutan),人們稱他為須達(Xuda),他又召集人民,用黃金拿給彌勒佛和各位沙門,名聲日益遠播。須達又帶領賢善之人一萬四千人,到彌勒佛那裡做了沙門。
又有兄弟二人,哥哥名叫鼓達(Guda),弟弟名叫扶蘭(Fulan),兄弟倆都說:『我們在這裡做什麼呢?不如一起到佛那裡,請求做沙門吧!』兄弟倆都說:『我們最好到彌勒佛那裡做沙門。』
又有小女人八萬四千人,身上都穿著華麗的衣服,佩戴著白珠、金銀、瓔珞,一同到彌勒佛那裡,都脫下身上的珍寶放在地上,對佛說
【English Translation】 English version: Furthermore, there is a dragon guardian named Fantou (幡頭); the third is the Bright Moon Pearl, whose birthplace is called Xujian (須漸), and the dragon guarding the treasures is named Binjie (賓竭); the fourth is Lapis Lazuli, whose birthplace is a city called Fanluonayi (氾羅那夷).
There is a Brahmin named Xu Fan (須凡), who will be the father of Maitreya (彌勒). Maitreya's mother is named Mohe Yueti (摩訶越題), and Maitreya will be their son. Maitreya's lineage will be Brahmin, possessing the thirty-two marks and eighty minor characteristics, with a height of sixteen zhang. Maitreya will be born in the land of Duocheng (墮城), with eyes that can see ten thousand miles, and a light from his head illuminating four thousand miles. When Maitreya attains Buddhahood, he will sit under the Longhua Tree (龍華樹), which is forty li high and forty li wide. When Maitreya becomes a Buddha, eighty-four thousand Brahmins will come to serve him, then renounce their homes and become Shamen (沙門). Maitreya will sit under the tree and attain Buddhahood on the eighth day of the fourth month when the morning star appears.
King Sengluo (僧羅), hearing that Maitreya has become a Buddha, will bring eighty-four kings, all abandoning their countries and thrones, entrusting their countries to their crown princes, and together they will go to Maitreya Buddha, all shaving their heads and beards to become Shamen. Furthermore, there will be one thousand eight hundred Brahmins, all going to Maitreya Buddha to become Shamen, and Maitreya's parents will be among them. Furthermore, there will be one thousand eighty-four holy Brahmins, all going to Maitreya Buddha to become Shamen.
In the country, there is a great wealthy and virtuous man named Xutan (須檀), whom people call Xuda (須達), and he summons the people, using gold to give to Maitreya Buddha and all the Shamen, and his reputation spreads far and wide. Xuda then leads fourteen thousand virtuous people to Maitreya Buddha to become Shamen.
Furthermore, there are two brothers, the elder named Guda (鼓達) and the younger named Fulan (扶蘭), both brothers saying: 'What are we doing in this world? Why not go together to the Buddha and ask to become Shamen!' Both brothers said: 'It is best for us to go to Maitreya Buddha and become Shamen.'
Furthermore, there are eighty-four thousand young women, all wearing fine clothes, white pearls, gold, silver, and necklaces, together going to Maitreya Buddha, all taking off their precious jewels and placing them on the ground, saying to the Buddha
:『我曹欲持是上佛及諸沙門,我欲從佛作比丘尼。』佛即令作比丘尼。
「彌勒佛坐,為諸比丘僧、比丘尼說,皆是釋迦文佛時,誦經者、慈心者、佈施者、不瞋恚者、作佛圖寺者、持佛骨著塔中者、燒香者、然燈者、懸繒者、散花者、讀經者。是諸比丘尼,皆釋迦文佛時人,持戒者、至誠者,於今皆來會是,聞諸比丘所說經處者,皆于龍華樹下得道。
「彌勒佛初一會說經時,有九十六億人,皆得阿羅漢道。
「第二會說經時,有九十四億比丘,皆得阿羅漢。
「第三會說經,九十二億沙門,皆得阿羅漢。舉天上諸天,皆當持花散彌勒身上。
「彌勒佛當將諸阿羅漢,至雞頭末王所治城,王皆內宮中飯食,舉城皆明,夜時如晝日。彌勒于宮中坐,說經言:『語不可不作,道不可不學,經不可不讚。』佛說經已,諸比丘及王百官,皆當奉行佛經戒,皆得度世。」
佛說如是,彌勒佛卻後六十億殘六十萬歲當來下。

『彌勒佛(Maitreya,未來佛)入座,為各位比丘僧(Bhikkhu,男性出家人)、比丘尼說法,他們都是釋迦文佛(Śākyamuni,現在佛)時期,誦經的人、有慈悲心的人、佈施的人、不嗔恚的人、建造佛圖寺(佛寺)的人、將佛骨安放在塔中的人、燒香的人、點燈的人、懸掛幡幢的人、散花的人、讀經的人。這些比丘尼,都是釋迦文佛時期的人,持戒的人、至誠的人,如今都來參加法會,聽各位比丘所說的經法,都會在龍華樹下得道。』
『彌勒佛第一次法會說法時,有九十六億人,都證得了阿羅漢(Arhat,斷盡煩惱,證得解脫的聖者)道。』
『第二次法會說法時,有九十四億比丘,都證得了阿羅漢。』
『第三次法會說法時,有九十二億沙門,都證得了阿羅漢。天上的諸天,都會拿著鮮花散在彌勒佛身上。』
『彌勒佛將會帶著各位阿羅漢,到雞頭末王(一個國王的名字)所治理的城池,國王會在內宮中供養齋飯,整個城池都會光明,夜晚如同白晝。彌勒佛在宮中入座,說法道:『善語不可不作,正道不可不學,佛經不可不讚。』佛陀說完經后,各位比丘以及國王百官,都會奉行佛經戒律,都能夠脫離世間苦難。』
佛陀這樣說,彌勒佛在六十億零六十萬年後將會下生。

【English Translation】 English version: 'We wish to bring these offerings to the Buddha and all the Śrāmaṇas (ascetics), we wish to follow the Buddha and become Bhikkhunīs (female monastics).' The Buddha then allowed them to become Bhikkhunīs.
'Maitreya Buddha (the future Buddha) sits and speaks for all the Bhikkhus (male monastics) and Bhikkhunīs, all of whom were from the time of Śākyamuni Buddha (the present Buddha): those who recited scriptures, those with loving-kindness, those who gave alms, those who were not angry, those who built Buddhist temples, those who placed Buddha's relics in pagodas, those who burned incense, those who lit lamps, those who hung banners, those who scattered flowers, those who read scriptures. These Bhikkhunīs, all of whom were people from the time of Śākyamuni Buddha, those who upheld the precepts, those who were sincere, all come to this assembly today, those who hear the scriptures spoken by the Bhikkhus, will all attain enlightenment under the Dragon Flower Tree.'
'When Maitreya Buddha first preached the Dharma, ninety-six billion people attained the state of Arhat (a perfected being who has attained liberation).'
'When he preached the Dharma for the second time, ninety-four billion Bhikkhus attained Arhatship.'
'When he preached the Dharma for the third time, ninety-two billion Śrāmaṇas attained Arhatship. All the devas (gods) in the heavens will hold flowers and scatter them on Maitreya's body.'
'Maitreya Buddha will bring all the Arhats to the city ruled by King Ketumatī (name of a king). The king will offer food in the inner palace, and the entire city will be bright, with the night like daytime. Maitreya will sit in the palace and preach, saying: 'Good words must be spoken, the right path must be learned, and the scriptures must be praised.' After the Buddha finishes speaking the sutra, all the Bhikkhus and the king's officials will follow the Buddha's precepts and will all be able to escape the suffering of the world.'
The Buddha said this, Maitreya Buddha will descend after six billion and sixty million years.
