開府儀同三司特進試鴻臚卿肅國公,食邑三千戶,賜紫贈司空,謚大鑒,正號大廣智,大興善寺三藏沙門不空,奉 詔譯
爾時文殊師利白佛言:「世尊!一切諸字母,云何一切諸法,入於此及陀羅尼字?」
佛告文殊師利:「一切諸法,入于字母及陀羅尼字。文殊師利!如:
「稱阿(上)字時,是無常聲。
「稱阿(引、去)字時,是遠離我聲。
「稱伊(上)字時,是諸根廣博聲。
「稱伊(引、去)字時,是世間災害聲。
「稱塢(上)字時,是多種逼迫聲。
「稱污(引)字時,是損減世間多有情聲。
「稱𠴊字時,是直軟相續有情聲。
「稱𠴊(引、去)字時,是斷染遊戲聲。
「稱力字時,是生法相聲。
「稱𡃖(引)字時,是三有染相聲。
「稱曀字時,是起所求聲。
「稱愛字時,是威儀勝聲。
「稱污字時,是取聲。
「稱奧字時,是化生之聲。
「稱暗字時,是無我所聲。
「稱惡字時,是沉沒聲。

爾時,文殊師利(Manjushri)菩薩對佛說:『世尊!一切諸字母,如何代表一切諸法,幷包含於此及陀羅尼字中?』
佛告訴文殊師利(Manjushri)菩薩:『一切諸法,都包含于字母及陀羅尼字中。文殊師利(Manjushri)!例如:』
『稱念「阿(a)」字時,是無常之聲。』
『稱念「阿(ā)」字時,是遠離我之聲。』
『稱念「伊(i)」字時,是諸根廣博之聲。』
『稱念「伊(ī)」字時,是世間災害之聲。』
『稱念「塢(u)」字時,是多種逼迫之聲。』
『稱念「污(ū)」字時,是損減世間眾多有情之聲。』
『稱念「𠴊(ri)」字時,是正直柔軟相續有情之聲。』
『稱念「𠴊(rī)」字時,是斷染遊戲之聲。』
『稱念「力(li)」字時,是生法相之聲。』
『稱念「𡃖(lī)」字時,是三有染相之聲。』
『稱念「曀(e)」字時,是發起所求之聲。』
『稱念「愛(ai)」字時,是威儀殊勝之聲。』
『稱念「污(o)」字時,是取著之聲。』

Manjushri's Inquiry Sutra, Chapter on Letters, Fourteenth
Translated by Tripitaka Master Amoghavajra (Bukong), Great Xingshan Temple, conferred the titles Grand Master of the Three Departments of the Imperial Secretariat, Special Advanced Official of the Honglu Court, Duke of Su State with a fief of 3,000 households, bestowed with purple robe, posthumously granted the title of Minister of Public Works, posthumous name Dajian, and honorary title Greatly Wise, under imperial decree.
At that time, Manjushri (Manjushri) Bodhisattva said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One! How do all letters represent all dharmas and are contained within these and the dharani syllables?'
The Buddha told Manjushri (Manjushri): 'All dharmas are contained within the letters and dharani syllables. Manjushri (Manjushri)! For example:'
'When uttering the syllable 'a', it is the sound of impermanence.'
'When uttering the syllable 'ā', it is the sound of being apart from self.'
'When uttering the syllable 'i', it is the sound of the extensive nature of the sense faculties.'
'When uttering the syllable 'ī', it is the sound of worldly calamities.'
'When uttering the syllable 'u', it is the sound of various oppressions.'
'When uttering the syllable 'ū', it is the sound of diminishing many sentient beings in the world.'
'When uttering the syllable 'ri', it is the sound of upright, gentle, and continuous sentient beings.'
'When uttering the syllable 'rī', it is the sound of cutting off defilements and play.'
'When uttering the syllable 'li', it is the sound of the characteristic of arising dharmas.'
'When uttering the syllable 'lī', it is the sound of the characteristic of defilement in the three realms.'
'When uttering the syllable 'e', it is the sound of initiating what is sought.'
'When uttering the syllable 'ai', it is the sound of superior dignity.'
'When uttering the syllable 'o', it is the sound of grasping.'
'When uttering the syllable 'au', it is the sound of transformation birth.'
'When uttering the syllable 'am', it is the sound of non-self.'
'When uttering the syllable 'ah', it is the sound of sinking.'
「稱迦(上)字時,是入業異熟聲。
「稱佉(上)字時,是出一切法等虛空聲。
「稱誐(上)字時,是甚深法聲。
「稱伽(去)字時,是摧稠密,無明、闇冥聲。
「稱仰字時,是五趣清凈聲。
「稱左字時,是四聖諦聲。
「稱磋(上)字時,是不覆欲聲。
「稱惹字時,是超老死聲。
「稱酂(才舸反)字時,是制伏惡語言聲。
「稱娘(上)字時,是制伏他魔聲。
「稱吒(上)字時,是斷語聲。
「稱咤(上)字時,是出置答聲。
「稱拏(上)字時,是出攝伏魔諍聲。
「稱荼(去)字時,是滅穢境界聲。
「稱拏(鼻聲呼)字時,是除諸煩惱聲。
「稱多(上)字時,是真如無間斷聲。
「稱佗(上)字時,是勢力進無畏聲。
「稱娜字時,是調伏律儀,寂靜安隱聲。
「稱馱字時,是七聖財聲。
「稱曩字時,是遍知名色聲。
「稱跛字時,是勝義聲。
「稱頗字時,是得果作證聲。

「稱婆字時,是出生三有聲。

【English Translation】 English version When uttering the sound 'Ka' (迦, ka), it is the sound of entering the fruition of karma (vipāka). (Vipāka: the result of good or bad karma.) When uttering the sound 'Kha' (佉, kha), it is the sound of emerging from all dharmas, equal to emptiness. When uttering the sound 'Ga' (誐, ga), it is the sound of profound dharma. When uttering the sound 'Gha' (伽, gha), it is the sound of destroying dense ignorance and darkness. (Avidyā: ignorance or delusion about the true nature of reality.) When uttering the sound 'Nga' (仰, ṅa), it is the sound of the five realms being purified. (Five realms: the realms of hell, hungry ghosts, animals, humans, and gods.) When uttering the sound 'Ca' (左, ca), it is the sound of the Four Noble Truths. (Four Noble Truths: the fundamental teachings of Buddhism: suffering, the cause of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the path to the cessation of suffering.) When uttering the sound 'Cha' (磋, cha), it is the sound of not covering up desires. When uttering the sound 'Ja' (惹, ja), it is the sound of transcending old age and death. When uttering the sound 'Tha' (佗, tha), it is the sound of powerful advancement without fear. When uttering the sound 'Da' (娜, da), it is the sound of taming the mind, observing precepts, and being peaceful and secure. When uttering the sound 'Dha' (馱, dha), it is the sound of the seven noble treasures. (Seven Noble Treasures: faith, morality, shame, remorse, learning, generosity, and wisdom.) When uttering the sound 'Na' (曩, na), it is the sound of universally knowing name and form. (Rūpa: material form.) When uttering the sound 'Pa' (跛, pa), it is the sound of ultimate truth. (Paramārtha: the highest truth.) When uttering the sound 'Pha' (頗, pha), it is the sound of attaining the fruit and bearing witness. When uttering the sound 'Ma' (么, ma), it is the sound of liberation from bondage. When uttering the sound 'Bha' (婆, bha), it is the sound of being born in the three realms of existence. (Three realms: the realms of desire, form, and formlessness, i.e., the cycle of rebirth.) When uttering the sound 'Ma' (莽, ma), it is the sound of ceasing arrogance. When uttering the sound 'Ya' (野, ya), it is the sound of the Buddha's complete understanding.
稱啰(梨假反)字時,是樂不樂勝義聲。
「稱砢字時,是斷愛支聲。
「稱嚩(無可反)字時,是最上乘聲。
「稱舍字時,是出信進、念定慧聲。
「稱灑字時,是制伏六處、得六神通智聲。
「稱娑(上)字時,是現證一切智聲。
「稱賀字時,是害煩惱,離欲聲。
「稱乞灑(二合)字時,是一切文字究竟無言說聲。
「文殊師利!此謂字母義,一切諸字入於此中。」
