Translated during the Song Dynasty by the Tripiṭaka Master Fa Xian, Great Master of Manifest Teaching, Minister of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices with the title Chao San Da Fu, and acting Vice President of the Court of Imperial Entertainments.
Thus have I heard:
At one time, the Buddha was in Śrāvastī (舍衛國), at the Jetavana Anathapindika-arama (祇樹給孤獨園), together with a great assembly of twelve hundred and fifty Bhikshus. There were also eight great Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, whose names are:
Mañjuśrībodhisattva-mahāsattva (妙吉祥菩薩摩訶薩), Āryāvalokiteśvara-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (聖觀自在菩薩摩訶薩), Maitreya-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (慈氏菩薩摩訶薩), Ākāśagarbha-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (虛空藏菩薩摩訶薩), Samantabhadra-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (普賢菩薩摩訶薩), Vajrapāṇi-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (金剛手菩薩摩訶薩), Sarvanivāraṇaviṣkambhin-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (除蓋障菩薩摩訶薩), Kṣitigarbha-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (地藏菩薩摩訶薩), who were the leaders. There were also other great Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, whose names are:
Ajita-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (無能勝菩薩摩訶薩), Nāgarjuna-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (龍相菩薩摩訶薩), Pramudita-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (喜意菩薩摩訶薩), Vimalagarbha-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (無垢藏菩薩摩訶薩), Vimalakīrti-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (無垢稱菩薩摩訶薩), Jñānarāja-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (智王菩薩摩訶薩), Anantavyūha-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (無邊軍菩薩摩訶薩), Jñānaprabha-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (智光菩薩摩訶薩), Prajñāprabha-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (慧光菩薩摩訶薩), Prajñādīpa-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (慧燈菩薩摩訶薩), Jñānadīpa-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (智燈菩薩摩訶薩), Brahmadatta-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (梵授菩薩摩訶薩), Devamukuṭa-bodhisattva-mahāsattva (天冠菩薩摩訶薩). All these great Bodhisattvas and others came to the assembly.
At that time, the World Honored One said to Śāriputra (舍利弗): 'Listen carefully now. Passing over worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River to the east, there is a Buddha-field named Ajita (無能勝). In that land, there is a Buddha named Suvīryamaṅgala-tathāgata (善精進吉祥如來), Arhat (應), Samyaksaṃbuddha (正等覺), who is now expounding the subtle Dharma for sentient beings.'
'Furthermore, Śāriputra! Again, passing over ten times as many worlds as the sands of the Ganges River to the east, there is a Buddha-field named Nirātman (無我). In that land, there is a Buddha named Samantaprabha-tathāgata (普照如來), Worthy of Offerings (應供), Perfectly Enlightened (正等覺), who is now expounding the subtle Dharma for sentient beings.'
'Furthermore, Śāriputra! Again, passing over three times as many worlds as the sands of the Ganges River to the east
