如是我聞:
一時,佛住王舍城耆阇崛山中,與大比丘眾千二百五十人;大菩薩眾五百人俱,各從佛剎而來集會,得無所有無作行神通,得幻生神通,得清凈離塵信心成就,得無障礙聞生,得深入一切相如幻,得如影身遍現一切佛剎,得如響聲能持法輪,得如夢智隨順見一切世界,得能隨順阿僧祇如來行處,得無障無礙大智境界。
其名曰:清凈辯才菩薩、放光焰菩薩、端嚴藏菩薩、無量光菩薩、雜藏菩薩、不定住佛剎菩薩、說佛法丈夫月菩薩、陀羅尼善根成住菩薩、毗盧遮那差別藏菩薩,如是等五百大菩薩俱;一一菩薩,各有阿僧祇菩薩以為眷屬。
爾時,天、龍、夜叉、揵闥婆、阿修羅、迦樓羅、緊那羅、摩睺羅伽,比丘、比丘尼、優婆塞、優婆夷,國王、大臣、沙門、婆羅門、剎利、長者、居士及諸小王、種種外道,信心清凈,尊重恭敬讚歎如來,多以上妙衣服、飲食、臥具、湯藥種種供養,供養如來。
佛以慈心為欲利益諸眾生故,受彼供養非為貪故。何以故?一切福田中,佛田最勝。如來具足無量定、無量慧、無量解脫、

佛陀以慈悲心,爲了利益一切眾生的緣故,接受他們的供養,並非因為貪婪的緣故。為什麼呢?因為在一切福田中,佛田是最殊勝的。如來具足無量的禪定、無量的智慧、無量的解脫。
【English Translation】 English version The Sutra of Elder Guṇarakṣita Spoken by the Buddha, Volume 1
Translated by Narendrayasas of Tianzhu (India) of the Sui Dynasty
Thus have I heard:
At one time, the Buddha was staying in Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa (Vulture Peak) in Rājagṛha (Royal City), together with a great assembly of twelve hundred and fifty Bhikṣus (monks), and five hundred great Bodhisattvas. Each of these Bodhisattvas came from their respective Buddhakṣetras (Buddha-fields), having attained unobstructed and unconditioned supernatural powers, having attained the supernatural power of illusory birth, having attained pure and undefiled faith, having attained unobstructed hearing, having attained the ability to deeply understand all phenomena as illusions, having attained the ability to manifest everywhere in all Buddha-fields like a shadow, having attained the ability to uphold the Dharma wheel like an echo, having attained dream-like wisdom to perceive all worlds accordingly, having attained the ability to accord with the practices of countless Tathāgatas (Thus Come Ones), and having attained the realm of unobstructed and unimpeded great wisdom.
Their names were: Bodhisattva Śuddha-pratibhāna (Pure Eloquence), Bodhisattva Prakāśa-jvāla (Radiant Flame), Bodhisattva Śrī-vyūha (Glorious Array), Bodhisattva Amitābha (Immeasurable Light), Bodhisattva Miśra-vyūha (Mixed Array), Bodhisattva Aniyata-sthāna-buddhakṣetra (Unfixed Abode in Buddha-fields), Bodhisattva Dharma-bhāṣaka-puruṣa-candra (Moon of the Man Who Speaks the Dharma), Bodhisattva Dhāraṇī-kuśala-mūla-sthita (Established in the Roots of Goodness of Dhāraṇī), Bodhisattva Vairocana-viśeṣa-vyūha (Distinctive Array of Vairocana). Such were the five hundred great Bodhisattvas present; each Bodhisattva had countless Bodhisattvas as their retinue.
At that time, Devas (gods), Nāgas (dragons), Yakṣas (demons), Gandharvas (celestial musicians), Asuras (demi-gods), Garuḍas (mythical birds), Kiṃnaras (celestial musicians), Mahoragas (great serpents), Bhikṣus (monks), Bhikṣuṇīs (nuns), Upāsakas (male lay followers), Upāsikās (female lay followers), kings, ministers, Śrāmaṇas (ascetics), Brāhmaṇas (priests), Kṣatriyas (warriors), elders, householders, as well as various minor kings and various heretics, with pure faith, respectfully praised the Tathāgata, and offered various excellent clothes, food, bedding, medicine, and other offerings to the Tathāgata.
The Buddha, with a compassionate heart, accepted their offerings for the benefit of all sentient beings, not out of greed. Why? Because among all fields of merit, the Buddha-field is the most supreme. The Tathāgata is complete with immeasurable Samādhi (concentration), immeasurable wisdom, and immeasurable liberation.
無量解脫知見,如虛空無邊、法界無邊,五分法身亦復無邊;能捨施者增大功德,成就不可思議果報。又是一切世間導師,善能教導一切眾生令不捨佛法;樂福德者為作無盡福田,於一切眾生行平等慈,於一切智得解脫自在。
時,諸外道遮羅迦、波利婆阇迦等一切外道,遠離信心但生貪慾,又以不得恭敬、供養、尊重、讚歎、衣服、飲食、臥具、湯藥而生嫉妒。見佛相好端嚴,多有徒眾眷屬,諸外道等無如是事,而生嫉妒。見佛具四辯才,能說諸法,自無辯才而生嫉妒。見佛大得利養,自不得故,誹謗于佛作大惡名。見佛威德尊重,見者悚懼如大國王,自無威德故生誹謗。見佛具足內外功德,三十二相一切種智,眾生愛樂,自無此事而生誹謗。見佛具足神通智慧,隱顯自在變現無礙,一身為多、多身為一,身力自在乃至梵世。善知過去、未來一切業報差別之相,善知現在眾生心行如應說法,貪慾多者為說不凈觀法,瞋恚多者為說慈悲觀法,愚癡多者為說因緣觀法,眾生信受遠離貪慾瞋恚愚癡,諸外道等無如是事,而生嫉妒為作惡名。見佛具足四無所畏,大師子吼決定能說,若如是者得沙門果,不如是者無沙門果,諸外道等無實知見,顛倒謬說故生誹謗。見佛具足大慈大悲憐愍一切,于諸眾生而得自在,如觀掌

【English Translation】 English version: Immeasurable liberation, knowledge, and vision are like the boundless void, the boundless Dharmadhatu (the totality of all dharmas), and the fivefold Dharma body (sila, samadhi, prajna, vimutti, vimuttinanadassana) is also boundless; those who are able to give alms increase their merits and achieve inconceivable rewards. Moreover, he is the guide of all worlds, skillfully teaching all beings not to abandon the Buddha Dharma; for those who delight in merit, he creates endless fields of merit, practicing equal compassion towards all beings, and attaining liberation and freedom in all wisdom.
At that time, those non-Buddhist Carakas (ancient Indian wandering ascetics), Parivrajakas (ancient Indian wandering ascetics), and all other non-Buddhists, were far from faith and only gave rise to greed, and they also became jealous because they did not receive reverence, offerings, respect, praise, clothing, food, bedding, and medicine. Seeing the Buddha's beautiful and dignified appearance, and that he had many disciples and followers, which the non-Buddhists did not have, they became jealous. Seeing that the Buddha possessed the four kinds of eloquence and could expound the Dharma, while they themselves had no eloquence, they became jealous. Seeing that the Buddha received great benefits and offerings, while they did not, they slandered the Buddha and created a bad reputation for him. Seeing the Buddha's majestic virtue and respect, and that those who saw him were in awe, as if seeing a great king, while they themselves had no majestic virtue, they became slanderous. Seeing that the Buddha possessed inner and outer merits, the thirty-two marks (Thirty-two marks of a Buddha) and omniscience (Omniscience), and that beings loved him, while they themselves had none of these, they became slanderous. Seeing that the Buddha possessed supernatural powers and wisdom, and was free to appear and disappear, and to transform without obstruction, one body could become many bodies, and many bodies could become one body, and his bodily strength was free, even reaching the Brahma world. He skillfully knew the differences in the karmic retributions of the past and future, and skillfully knew the minds and actions of present beings, and taught the Dharma accordingly; for those with much greed, he expounded the contemplation of impurity (Impurity contemplation), for those with much anger, he expounded the contemplation of loving-kindness (Loving-kindness meditation), and for those with much ignorance, he expounded the contemplation of dependent origination (Dependent origination contemplation), and beings believed and practiced, and were far from greed, anger, and ignorance, which the non-Buddhists did not have, so they became jealous and created a bad reputation. Seeing that the Buddha possessed the four kinds of fearlessness (Four kinds of fearlessness), and like a great lion's roar, could definitively say, 'If you do this, you will attain the fruits of asceticism (Fruits of asceticism), and if you do not do this, you will not attain the fruits of asceticism,' these non-Buddhists had no real knowledge and understanding, and spoke perversely and erroneously, so they became slanderous. Seeing that the Buddha possessed great compassion and pity for all, and was free with all beings, as if viewing the palm of his hand.
中庵摩勒果,自無此事而生誹謗。見佛多得供養尊重讚歎天人欽仰,不得如是具足供養,心生嫉妒為作惡名。見佛如是種種功德具不可壞,自不具故而生嫉妒誹謗如來。
彼諸外道,過去福盡新福不生,入于惡見曠野稠林。譬如有人入大曠野,迷失正道不能得出。彼諸外道亦復如是,離於智慧,于諸惡見不能得出,不信正法,不供養僧,失於善根,生種種惡見,有所言說悉皆顛倒,不信業報,不知十二因緣等法,行惡見稠林非真實道,于諸法中如生盲人。
時諸外道六師眷屬,及裸形外道等悉皆聚集,詣論議堂而共議言:「瞿曇沙門昔未出時,未見大沙門時,此閻浮提一切人民悉歸屬我,信伏我法,隨我所欲。瞿曇出世,一切人民舍我等法,不復供給衣服、飲食、臥具、湯藥,亦不恭敬、尊重、讚歎,不受我語。我等今者當設何計?」
復更議言:「瞿曇沙門,雖復具足福德智慧,能化央伽摩陀羅國,一切人民悉令歸化,而不能化彼之德護長者一人。此王舍城,惟彼長者不信瞿曇,獨受我法,供養、恭敬、尊重、讚歎,佈施我等衣服飲食,惟屬我等尼揵陀若提子、末伽利拘舍梨子、般浮多迦旃延、刪阇耶毗羅坻子、阿支羅翅舍甘婆羅、富蘭那迦葉等大眾之師,諸餘沙門及婆羅門,初亦未曾得至彼門

那些外道,過去的福報已經用盡,新的福報又沒有產生,進入了充滿惡見的曠野稠林。譬如有人進入大曠野,迷失了正道,不能出來。那些外道也像這樣,遠離了智慧,在各種惡見中不能自拔,不相信正法,不供養僧眾,失去了善根,產生種種惡見,所說的話全部都是顛倒的,不相信業報,不知道十二因緣等法,行走在惡見的稠林中,而不是真實的道路,對於各種佛法,就像是天生的盲人。

又進一步商議說:『瞿曇沙門,即使具足福德和智慧,能夠教化央伽(古印度十六大國之一)和摩陀羅國(古印度十六大國之一),使一切人民都歸順教化,卻不能教化那位德護長者一個人。這王舍城(古印度摩揭陀國的首都),只有那位長者不相信瞿曇,獨自接受我們的法,供養、恭敬、尊重、讚歎我們,佈施給我們衣服和飲食,只屬於我們尼揵陀若提子(耆那教創始人)、末伽梨拘舍梨子(宿命論者)、般浮多迦旃延(懷疑論者)、刪阇耶毗羅坻子(不可知論者)、阿支羅翅舍甘婆羅(享樂主義者)、富蘭那迦葉(無道德論者)等大眾的老師,其他的沙門和婆羅門,起初也從來沒有能夠到達他的家門。』
【English Translation】 English version: It's like the fruit of the middle Āmalaka (a type of fruit), where slander arises even though there is no such thing. Seeing the Buddha receive many offerings, respect, and praise, and being admired by gods and humans, (the heretics) cannot receive such complete offerings as the Buddha, and jealousy arises in their hearts, so they create evil names for the Buddha. Seeing that the Buddha possesses such indestructible merits, and not possessing them themselves, they become jealous and slander the Tathagata.
Those heretics, their past blessings exhausted and new blessings not arising, enter the wilderness and dense forest of evil views. It is like a person entering a great wilderness, losing the right path and unable to get out. Those heretics are also like this, separated from wisdom, unable to escape from various evil views, not believing in the true Dharma, not making offerings to the Sangha, losing their roots of goodness, generating various evil views, and all their words are inverted, not believing in karmic retribution, not knowing the laws of the Twelve Nidānas, walking in the dense forest of evil views instead of the true path, and being like the blind from birth in relation to all dharmas.
At that time, the retinues of the six heretical teachers (Pūraṇa Kassapa, Makkhali Gosāla, Ajita Kesakambalī, Pakudha Kaccāyana, Sañjaya Belatthiputta, and Nigaṇṭha Nāṭaputta), and the naked ascetics, all gathered together, went to the debating hall and discussed together, saying: 'When the Śramaṇa Gautama (Śākyamuni Buddha) had not yet appeared, when the great Śramaṇa had not yet been seen, all the people of this Jambudvīpa (the world we live in) belonged to us, believed in our Dharma, and followed our wishes. After Gautama appeared in the world, all the people abandoned our Dharma, no longer provided us with clothes, food, bedding, and medicine, nor did they respect, honor, or praise us, nor did they listen to our words. What should we do now?'
They further discussed, saying: 'The Śramaṇa Gautama, even though he possesses merit and wisdom, and can convert the countries of Aṅga (one of the sixteen Mahājanapadas of ancient India) and Magadha (one of the sixteen Mahājanapadas of ancient India), causing all the people to convert, cannot convert even one person, the elder Dhrtarastra. In this Rājagṛha (the capital of the ancient Magadha kingdom), only that elder does not believe in Gautama, but alone accepts our Dharma, offering, respecting, honoring, and praising us, giving us clothes and food, belonging only to us, Nigaṇṭha Nāṭaputta (founder of Jainism), Makkhali Gosāla (Ajivika leader), Pakudha Kaccāyana (skeptic), Sañjaya Belatthiputta (agnostic), Ajita Kesakambalī (materialist), Pūraṇa Kassapa (immoralist), and other teachers of the masses, and other Śramaṇas and Brahmins have never been able to reach his door.'
。我等徒眾若至其家,彼人能以誠心種種供養,彼人今日信根成就,於我等所生勝信心深徹骨髓。王舍城中國王大臣,剎利、婆羅門及諸餘人,無有如是堅固信心。沙門瞿曇及一切婆羅門諸餘外道等,亦無能壞彼人信心,我等於彼而得自在,聞有所說必定信受,今者宜應往至其家,具以上事向其人說。復當教彼於七重門下各作火坑,其一一坑深沒七人,滿中安置佉他羅炭無煙之火,以銅為梁草土覆上。瞿曇將至,當以水灑並散諸華,瞿曇若踏必當陷死。若不死者,復以毒藥置飲食中與之令食。作是事已,遣請瞿曇就家飯食。瞿曇若是一切智者,必不受請,不為火毒之所燒害;若其非者,受請無疑。」
時諸外道作是計已,即共發往至王舍城,到于德護大長者家,至其家已,便一向立。是時,長者見諸外道,心大歡喜,踴躍無量,就彼作禮。既頂禮已,廣為處處,安置床鋪,勸令就坐。既就坐已,合掌曲躬,作如是言:「我常思念,今忽逢遇,善哉!善哉!天念我故,令諸導師、諸大德等悉來集會,為作福田。」爾時,長者見諸外道悉皆坐已,次第行水安置器皿,設種種食,食已洗竟。是時,長者于大外道床前,別安小座而坐。時諸外道盧竭多蜜多尼延咃等一切外道,既見長者安坐已定,作如是言:「大長者!我

「大長者!汝今決定大須信用我等計挍,可於汝家七重門下,一一門內作大火坑各沒七人,著佉陀羅炭無煙之火,以銅為梁遍敷𥱿篨薄以土覆。瞿曇將至,以水灑上覆散好華,瞿曇若過必當陷死。若燒不死,復以毒藥安著食中,作是事已,遣請瞿曇。彼若定是一切智者必不受請,非一切智受請無疑。」

They exclaimed in praise: 'Now I am teaching him to abandon good deeds and create evil deeds, to abandon non-greed, non-hatred, and non-delusion, and to abide in the path of intolerance, greed, hatred, and delusion. Even unreasonable teachings can be followed. Excellent! The elder greatly believes my words.' They emitted loud cries of joy, either singing or whistling, and each bid farewell and returned to their respective abodes.
At that time, the son of the elder Dehu (德護), named Yueguang (月光), was sixteen years old, with a dignified appearance and the finest features. He possessed the twenty-eight marks of a great man. Beings who saw him never tired of looking. He had previously made offerings to past Buddhas, planting the roots of various virtues. He had listened to the true Dharma at many Buddhas' places and had purely cultivated Brahma-conduct at eight hundred million Buddhas' places. He was intelligent, with sharp faculties, courageous and steadfast, possessing eloquence, being honest and without falsehood, with his mind and mouth in accord. He had attained the Samadhi (sanmei) of Buddha-Recollection, and he always obtained a joyful mind at the Buddhas' places, and he always obtained a joyful and delighted mind in the true Dharma. His heart was without timidity, he had obtained the four kinds of eloquence, and he had obtained indestructible faith. He had no doubts in his mind regarding the various Dharmas. He was able to offer the Sangha (sengqie) the finest clothes, food, bedding, and medicine. He was skilled in expounding the Dharma, had obtained Dharani (tuoluoni), and had attained the ground of non-retrogression to Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (anoutuoluosansanmiaosantiputi). In Bodhi (puti), he obtained an inconceivable body and mind. Among all beings, he obtained a heart of great compassion that would not be destroyed. He constantly diligently taught and transformed all beings, never retreating from the vows of all-wisdom. He was able to destroy all demonic enemies and subdue all heretics. He had obtained skillful means of wisdom, had obtained profound wisdom, was able to give up wealth like clouds, maintained pure precepts, was patient like the earth, and was diligent and steadfast. His mind was undisturbed regarding all Dharmas. He was able to practice wisdom and truly see all Dharmas. In all Dharmas, he obtained the moisture of the Dharma. With the most supreme faith, he made offerings to the Buddhas. He generated faith and joy in all the Buddhas' various merits, and his compassionate heart was pure. He generated a compassionate heart towards all beings, and his faith and conviction were as firm as diamond.
剛山不可傾動,得不忘念差別智慧,能受一切法徹到彼岸。智慧了知一切佛法方便之行,福德善力不可沮壞,住四辯才心無怯弱,于父母所知恩報恩。於一切佛法得最勝心,常為眾生說佛功德,若見若聞諸佛神通心無厭足,善能攝取諸智慧者,能說一切諸佛境界,一切佛法悉能講說。是長者子成就如是等功德,如是等無量法器,廣說無量嘆不可盡。

Wisdom is able to understand all the expedient practices of the Buddhadharma, the merit and virtuous power cannot be destroyed, possessing the four kinds of eloquence (unobstructed eloquence, eloquence of meaning, eloquence of expression, and joyful eloquence) with no timidity in the heart, knowing gratitude to parents and repaying their kindness. Towards all Buddhadharma, one attains the most supreme faith, constantly proclaiming the merits of the Buddha to sentient beings, if seeing or hearing the supernormal powers of the Buddhas, the mind is without weariness and is satisfied, skillfully gathering all those with wisdom, able to speak of all the realms of the Buddhas, and able to explain and proclaim all Buddhadharma. This son of the elder has accomplished such merits and virtues, such immeasurable vessels of Dharma (an analogy for those who can receive the Buddha's teachings), extensively speaking, the praise is inexhaustible. This Moonlight Youth, knowing that his father, the elder, believed in externalist paths and desired to harm the Tathagata (an epithet of the Buddha), went to his mother and said to her: 'Mother, do you know now? Father's mind is inverted, accepting the teachings of externalist paths and losing his original mind, deeply generating respect and faith in the joy obtained from externalist paths. These externalist paths themselves create the karma of the three evil realms (referring to hell, hungry ghosts, and animals), and also cause father to create the karma of the three evil realms. Mother, do not now accept the words of father's heretical views and slander the Buddha. Why? It is difficult for a Buddha to appear in the world, and it is impossible to encounter one in countless eons, or one eon, ten eons, a thousand eons, ten thousand eons, even unspeakable eons. Even the names of the Buddhas are impossible to hear, let alone see! The Buddha is able to purify the minds of all sentient beings, possessing supernormal powers and wisdom, understanding without obstruction, skillfully teaching and transforming all sentient beings, acting without hindrance, in the three liberations (emptiness, signlessness, and desirelessness) the Buddha is the most supreme. In a single moment, he knows all Dharmas, the Tathagata dwells well in all Dharmas, the Tathagata is able to know the place of birth of all sentient beings, the Buddha speaks truthful words as proof for all sentient beings, able to remove the physical and mental suffering and all kinds of enemies of sentient beings, without attachment to any realms. Mother should believe in the Buddha, do not believe in the false and deceptive words of the six heretical teachers (referring to the six prevalent heretical teachers at the time). I respect my mother, and for the sake of repaying my mother's kindness, I offer these words. Why? Mother carried me in her womb for ten months, enduring great suffering, and when giving birth to me, she was half-dead and half-alive, ceasing and then reviving. I remember this kindness and have never forgotten it, even in immeasurable hundreds of thousands of millions of eons, it cannot be repaid. My mind constantly...'
愿共母往見百萬億那由他佛,常愿共母聽諸佛法,常愿共母往見一切菩薩行處,常愿共母往見一切菩薩凈佛法處,常愿共母往見一切不壞清凈信處,常愿共母往見一切作佛事處,常愿共母往見一切香華、衣服、臥具、湯藥供養佛法僧處,常愿共母往見一切聖人行法之處、常愿共母往見一切信根成就、無有顛倒至涅槃處。」
爾時,其母月云告月光言:「善哉!善哉!得聞汝說。汝實大悲,于父母所深生憐愍,開導善事如大導師。汝亦如是,所說法者今悉信受,我今為自清凈心故,亦愿安隱諸眾生故,發菩提心、廣心、上心、無量心、歡喜心、生清凈心,于諸法中得無疑心、不顛倒心、具足信心。眾僧之中具有解脫解脫知見,能破一切煩惱諸結,應當于彼生清凈信供養恭敬。佛德無量、佛行無量、佛境界無量,所說妙法亦復無量,利益眾生亦復無量。如汝所說佛德無邊,我今無智說佛功德。月光!我常信佛不生噁心,汝不能具盡真是我大善知識,能為我說佛無量德,于無量千萬阿僧祇劫,說佛功德無有厭足不得邊際。」

「無量百千萬億劫, 佛名難聞況得見, 汝能于佛生勝信, 如是信心實難得。 我今信佛無量德, 不可得聞況眼見, 汝今來生在我家,

You are truly compassionate, deeply compassionate towards your parents, guiding good deeds like a great teacher. You are indeed like that, and I now believe and accept all the Dharma you have spoken. Now, for the sake of my own pure mind, and also for the sake of the peace and stability of all sentient beings, I generate the Bodhi mind, the vast mind, the supreme mind, the immeasurable mind, the joyful mind, generate a pure mind, and in all Dharmas, attain a mind without doubt, a mind without perversion, and complete faith. Among the Sangha, those who possess liberation and the knowledge and vision of liberation, who can break all afflictions and bonds, should be regarded with pure faith, offered to, and respected. The virtues of the Buddha are immeasurable, the practices of the Buddha are immeasurable, the realms of the Buddha are immeasurable, the wonderful Dharma spoken is also immeasurable, and the benefits to sentient beings are also immeasurable. Just as you said, the virtues of the Buddha are boundless, and I now lack the wisdom to fully express the virtues of the Buddha. Yueguang! I always believe in the Buddha and do not generate evil thoughts. You are able to fully explain that you are truly my greatest good teacher, able to speak to me of the Buddha's immeasurable virtues, even in immeasurable millions of Asamkhya kalpas (Asamkhya kalpa, an extremely long unit of time), speaking of the Buddha's virtues without weariness, without limit.'
At that time, Yueyun spoke a verse for her son:
'For immeasurable hundreds of millions of billions of kalpas, the name of the Buddha is difficult to hear, let alone see. You are able to generate supreme faith in the Buddha, such faith is truly rare to obtain. I now believe in the Buddha's immeasurable virtues, it is impossible to hear, let alone see with the eyes. You have now come to be born in my family,'
我今見汝如導師。 能使我心清凈信, 不可思議諸佛法, 汝今猶如我父母, 亦如諸佛生我家。 譬如父母將子去, 得至諸佛無漏處, 我等無量千萬劫, 不能報汝今日恩。 汝真是我善知識, 世世常為清凈導, 令我安住最勝念, 決定信佛無有疑。 永得出於三惡趣, 常得安住人天道, 非惟是我善知識, 亦是眾生善知識。 尚欲度脫他眾生, 況復眷屬親父母, 能令閤家諸眷屬, 破壞一切諸怨結, 亦復遠離三惡趣, 超出住于天人道。 佛出世間甚為難, 經于無量百千劫, 汝今能來生我家, 希有難值亦如是, 汝今真是大丈夫, 善能巧說微妙法, 汝今真是諸佛子, 于佛常生歡喜信。 誰今與我難得兒, 今乃來生在我家, 我子月光甚希有, 常能讚歎一切佛。」
爾時,德護長者家內眷屬一千婇女,聞月云夫人及月光童子說是偈已,皆大歡喜踴躍無量,同聲贊言:「善哉!善哉!不可思議,不可思議。月光福伽羅數生我家,此丈夫者尚難得聞,何況得見?是人隨所生處,或閻浮提城邑聚落。若有見聞親近供養,共坐共語永離惡道,何況生在家中而不利益?父母親屬令離惡道。」

At that time, the one thousand consorts in the house of Elder Dehu (referring to Elder Dehu), after hearing Lady Yueyun (referring to Lady Yueyun) and Moonlight Child (referring to Moonlight Child) speak these verses, were all very happy, leaping with immeasurable joy, and praised in unison: 'Excellent! Excellent! Inconceivable, inconceivable. Moonlight Puggala (referring to a person with merit) is born into my home, such a man is difficult to even hear about, let alone see? Wherever this person is born, whether in the cities and villages of Jambudvipa (referring to the world we live in). If someone sees, hears, approaches, and makes offerings to him, and sits and talks with him, they will be forever free from the evil paths, let alone being born in the home without bringing benefits? He can enable parents and relatives to stay away from the evil paths.'

,德護長者送外道已,便出王舍城詣耆阇崛山,躬往請佛。遙見世尊相好莊嚴不可思議六根寂靜,得最勝陀摩他奢摩他,得最勝第一陀摩他奢摩他,守護諸根如調大龍,如大池水清凈不濁,放無量百千億那由他光焰,威德嚴儀難可睹覲見者歡喜。
德護長者既至佛所,種種軟語共相勞問,白佛言:「愿佛及僧憐愍,受我明日供養。」佛知長者受化時至,默然受請。
長者知已,心生歡喜,稽首辭退下耆阇崛山,入王舍城至六師家。到已,作如是言:「沙門瞿曇及諸徒眾已受我請,以是得知非一切智。」諸外道等聞是語已,心生歡喜,倍增踴躍,慶賴無量喜滿身心,語長者言:「今可還家,速辦所設火坑毒食,如上所說令遂所志。」

From afar, he saw the World-Honored One with his magnificent and inconceivable marks, his six senses stilled, having attained the supreme Dhamatha (陀摩他, cessation) and Shamatha (奢摩他, tranquility), having attained the supreme and foremost Dhamatha and Shamatha, guarding his senses like a tamed great dragon, like a great pond of water, clear and unpolluted, emitting immeasurable hundreds of thousands of millions of Nayutas (那由他, a large number) of flames of light. His majestic and dignified appearance was difficult to behold, and those who saw him rejoiced.
Having arrived at the Buddha's place, Deva-rakshita the householder greeted him with various gentle words and said to the Buddha, 'May the Buddha and the Sangha have compassion and accept my offering tomorrow.' The Buddha knew that the time for the householder to be converted had arrived, and he silently accepted the invitation.
Knowing this, the householder was delighted. He bowed and took his leave, descending Mount Gridhrakuta and entering Rajagriha to the homes of the six teachers (六師, the six heretical teachers). Having arrived, he said, 'The Shramana Gautama (沙門瞿曇, Shakyamuni Buddha) and his disciples have accepted my invitation, from which it can be known that he is not omniscient.' When the heretics heard these words, they were delighted, even more excited, rejoicing and relying on it, immeasurable joy filling their bodies and minds. They said to the householder, 'Now you can return home and quickly prepare the fire pit and poisoned food that have been set up, and do as you said above to achieve your goal.'
At that time, the householder immediately returned home and ordered his family to prepare these things. At that time, his son Chandra-prabha (月光), seeing his father's intention to create evil deeds, was worried and advised his father, 'This matter is not auspicious. Do not create unwholesome karma at the Buddha's place. Why? Because the Buddhas are difficult to destroy. If all the gods, humans, dragons, and spirits have evil intentions towards the Tathagata (如來, Thus Come One), no one can destroy him. All swords cannot harm or destroy him, and all fierce fires cannot burn or harm him. Even if the fires of hell were to burn him, they would not feel warm, let alone human fire. Like when seven suns appear at the end of a kalpa (劫, cosmic cycle), the three thousand great thousand worlds are filled with great flames, burning up to the Brahma (梵天, the highest heaven in the realm of form) and Mount Chakravada (鐵圍山, the iron ring mountains), yet they cannot burn even one garment of the Buddha, let alone harm the Tathagata with this tiny fire pit. Only those with merit can approach the Buddha. May my father not harbor evil, rebellious, angry, or harmful thoughts towards the Buddha. The nature of all beings is originally pure. Do not generate afflictions, defiling the pure mind. Do not join hands with external paths. Do not compare a small mustard seed to Mount Sumeru (Sumeru, the mountain in Buddhist cosmology), or the water in a cow's footprint to the great ocean. Do not try to cover the entire void with a spider's small web. Do not try to move Mount Sumeru with the strength of a single dust mote. 「愿父放舍一切惡念毒害罪心。何以故?譬如有人供養大地,復有一人燒斫大地,於此二人等與利益無所分別。佛亦如是,于供養者、于打罵者,以本願故皆悉為作得道因緣。是故如來,為一切眾生種善根本,於一切福田最上第一,若有供養佛者,於三界中必定能出,佛是一切眾生大善知識。
「父今于佛生噁心者,為失自身、為燒自身,趣向地獄受諸苦惱。然如來身不可毀壞,一切外道及諸眾生亦不能壞。何以故?如來已離三毒猛火,于無明中已得解脫,得三世智慧知

Before attaining Bodhi, [the Tathagata] already knew in advance that when he attained Bodhi, there would be a great elder in Rajagrha (Wangshecheng) named Dehura (Dehura, a name), who, with a turbid and evil mind, would try to kill the Tathagata with a fire pit and poisoned food, and also knew that because of this evil mind, he would be able to obtain the supreme pure and excellent faith, and abandon the turbid mind. The Tathagata is able to teach and transform both those who do evil and those who do good, causing them to plant the causes and conditions for unsurpassed Bodhi.
May father relinquish all evil thoughts, poisonous harm, and sinful mind. Why? For example, if someone makes offerings to the earth, and another burns and chops the earth, the benefits given by the earth to these two people are equal, without distinction. The Buddha is also like this, for those who make offerings and those who scold and beat, because of his original vows, he creates the causes and conditions for them to attain the Way. Therefore, the Tathagata plants the roots of goodness for all sentient beings, and is the supreme and foremost among all fields of merit. If someone makes offerings to the Buddha, he will surely be able to emerge from the three realms. The Buddha is the great good advisor for all sentient beings.
Father, your present evil thoughts towards the Buddha are for losing yourself, burning yourself, heading towards hell, and suffering all kinds of afflictions. However, the body of the Tathagata cannot be destroyed, and neither can it be destroyed by all heretics and other sentient beings. Why? The Tathagata has already departed from the fierce fire of the three poisons (greed, hatred, and delusion), has already obtained liberation from ignorance, and has obtained the wisdom of the three times, able to know all.
眾生過去現在,離一切罪得一切福,成就一切諸善根本。是故父應深生信樂,莫于如來起怨家想,莫受外道愚癡所說遠離於佛,莫于佛所生惡逆心,莫生怨心,莫于如來善知識所生惡害心,墮落三塗后當悔恨。」
爾時德護長者告月光言:「若如汝所說佛有無量功德,是一切智知他心者,我以噁心作火坑毒食,何故不知而受我請?」
爾時,月光白其父言:「佛實一切知、實一切見,悉見悉知父所有噁心,亦知因此噁心而得調伏。佛智慧最大智慧自在覺知具足,為欲除滅父噁心故,今受父請非為食故。父當唸佛大莊嚴,唸佛大神通,佛大慈悲為欲令父噁心濁心得解脫故而來至此;欲令惡攀緣者作善根故;為欲令身作解脫故;得調伏故;欲令闇心作明心故;欲令黑心作白心故;欲令濁心作凈心故;以父信受外道惡濁令大清凈故;一切三界苦聚欲除去故。父若不信佛具種種大神變者,明當自知。」
爾時德護長者過此夜已,至明清旦遣使迎佛,告言:「汝如我語,白大沙門:『供具已辦,當知是時。』」
爾時使人出王舍城詣耆阇崛山,到佛所已,白佛言:「世尊!德護長者供食已辦,愿佛知時。」
爾時,佛告諸比丘:「著衣持缽,往于德護大長者家受彼請食。」

The Buddha's wisdom is the greatest, his wisdom is free, and his awareness is complete. In order to eliminate your evil intention, father, he accepted your invitation, not for the sake of food. Father, you should remember the Buddha's great adornment, remember the Buddha's great supernatural powers, and the Buddha's great compassion. In order to liberate your evil and turbid mind, father, he came here; in order to allow those with evil attachments to plant good roots; in order to liberate the body; to be tamed; in order to turn a dark heart into a bright heart; in order to turn a black heart into a white heart; in order to turn a turbid heart into a pure heart; because you, father, believe in the evil and turbid views of external paths, so he wants to bring you great purity; he wants to remove all the suffering aggregates of the three realms. If you, father, do not believe that the Buddha has all kinds of great supernatural transformations, you will know it yourself tomorrow.'
At that time, after the elder Dehu had passed this night, he sent a messenger to welcome the Buddha early the next morning, and told the messenger: 'According to my words, inform the great Shramana (ascetic, referring to the Buddha): 'The offerings are ready, please know the time.'

The various countries they passed through used the sounds accomplished by the pure roots of goodness of ten million kalpas to praise all the Buddhas, raising great Dharma clouds and raining down rains of Dharma, arriving at the Buddha's place, for the sake of seeing the Buddha, for the sake of making offerings, for the sake of seeing the Moonlight Youth, and for the sake of having compassion for the elder Dehu.
At that time, in the southeast, passing through as many lands as dust motes in three thousand great chiliocosms, there was a world named Universal Adornment. In that Buddha-land was a Buddha named Obstruction-Free Light Flame Tathāgata, Arhat, Samyaksaṃbuddha, Vidyācaraṇasaṃpanna, Sugata, Lokavid, Anuttara-puruṣadamyasārathi, Śāstādevamanuṣyāṇāṃ, Buddha, Bhagavat, now expounding the Dharma. There was a Bodhisattva there named Universal Light Pure Moon, and also ten thousand Bodhisattvas with the same name, Universal Light Pure Moon, each Bodhisattva with hundreds of thousands of Bodhisattvas as their retinue, surrounding them before and behind, heading towards the Sahā world. If anyone sees or hears these Bodhisattvas and draws near to them, it will not be in vain.
At that time, the World-Honored One, seeing the great Bodhisattvas from the ten directions and their countless Bodhisattva retinues gathering here from their respective Buddha-lands, unfolded his lotus position (跏趺坐), intending to go to the house of Virtue Protection Elder. At that moment, the Trisahasra-Mahasahasra-lokadhatu shook in eighteen ways with six types of movements: shaking, universal shaking, equal universal shaking; rising, universal rising, equal universal rising; roaring, universal roaring, equal universal roaring; awakening, universal awakening, equal universal awakening; quaking, universal quaking, equal universal quaking; arising, universal arising, equal universal arising. The Four Great Heavenly Kings (Caturmaharajakayikas), the Asura King (Asura-raja), the Yaksa King (Yaksa-raja), and others also followed on foot from the great city of Rajagrha, standing in attendance at the gate of the great householder Sri Gupta.
At that time, Candraprabha (Moonlight Boy) saw the Buddha's light and great miraculous powers, and even the earth trembled in eighteen ways. He felt great joy in his heart, his mind was delighted, and all his senses were filled with happiness and satisfaction. Having generated joy, he ascended to the seventh story of the building, joined his palms together, and facing his father, spoke the following verses:
'The Buddha sits in the lotus position, inspiring desire to come forth, fearless like a lion, now he has arrived here. This Narayana (Preserver), the indestructible two-legged尊, has destroyed the demons and their retinue, and awakened under the Bodhi tree. This one is like Vajra (Diamond), nothing can destroy him, but he can destroy all heretical views and external paths. Like a strongman, he can destroy all enemies, and compassion can scatter the arrogance and afflictions. This one is difficult to destroy, destroying the self, surpassing all, the wise great guide, able to save all. This one cannot be killed, not burned by any fire, the Tathagata has left death, and no poison can harm him. Each Bodhisattva assembly, is surrounded by immeasurable beings, Each dwelling in their respective lands, their names cannot be heard. He speaks well to me about the merits of all Buddhas. His kindness is difficult to repay even in countless kalpas. He even scatters priceless pearl necklaces upon the Buddha.'
At that time, the World Honored One, to deepen the faith of the elder Dehu, used his supernatural powers to emit hundreds of thousands of clouds of various precious colors. At that time, Ruhita Ashva (translated as Red Horse, a deity's name) and Vicitrasa (also a deity's name) scattered various colored precious flowers with radiant light upon the Buddha. Asamkhya (countless) Bodhisattvas manifested immeasurable supernatural powers and came before the Buddha, desiring to teach and transform hundreds of thousands of billions of sentient beings.
At that time, the elder Dehu, the boy Moonlight, and the boy Desheng, etc., felt joy in their hearts, paid homage to the Buddha's feet, sincerely repented, and said, 'Oh, how wonderful! The supernatural transformations of Shakyamuni Tathagata are inconceivable. It is difficult to see him even in hundreds of thousands of kalpas, let alone generate pure faith. It is difficult to encounter a Buddha's appearance in the world in countless billions of kalpas. This child Moonlight has great wisdom. He has seen countless billions of Buddhas in the ten directions. He travels in all the Buddha worlds, bows his head, takes refuge, and pays homage to the Buddha, just as Shakyamuni Tathagata sees the Buddhas in the ten directions. 爾時,德護最大長者家人名德,見佛種種神力,亦見天龍八部興大供養,向佛說偈讚歎佛曰:
「南無大智佛, 釋師子如來, 若能生信心, 而得大利益。 先信于外道, 而造諸惡業, 今信於世尊, 得如是大利。 見斯不思議, 其誰不信佛, 如是重罪人, 佛力故生信。 一心恭敬信, 出世勝導師, 無量百千劫, 不墮諸惡道。 長者造大罪, 今得凈信心, 以信心因緣, 如來與授記。 長者自知罪, 心生大愁惱, 今得信心已, 得無量福德。 心中除惡見,

『像這樣,善男子!這位月光童子,已經在過去無量阿僧祇劫(asaṃkhya-kalpa,極長的時間單位)中,教化了德護長者。這位童子和德護長者,在未來的世間會常生於有佛的世界,教化無量的眾生。』
在宣說月光童子和德護長者被授記的因緣時,無量世界發生了六種震動,大光明普遍照耀,降下各種天花,降下各種天寶,降下天上的瓔珞,降下天上的寶蓋,降下各種天衣,降下天上的旃檀末香,降下天上的沉水香,降下天上的多伽羅香,降下天上的優缽羅華(utpala,青蓮花),降下天上的波頭摩華(padma,紅蓮花)。諸天的音樂發出微妙的聲音,以及諸天的歌詠等聲音,這一切都是佛的神通力量,也是月光童子宿世的善根力量,爲了教化德護長者和他的眷屬,也爲了教化天、龍、夜叉(yaksha,一種守護神)、犍闥婆(gandharva,一種天神,司音樂)、阿修羅(asura,一種好戰的神)、迦樓羅(garuḍa,一種巨鳥)、緊那羅(kiṃnara,一種天神,半人半鳥)、摩睺羅伽(mahoraga,一種巨蟒神)等等。

『頂禮大智佛, 釋迦獅子如來(Śākya-siṃha-tathāgata,釋迦牟尼佛的稱號), 若能生起信心, 便能得到大利益。 先前信奉外道, 造作各種惡業, 如今信奉世尊, 得到如此大利。 見到這不可思議, 有誰不信佛呢? 像這樣罪業深重的人, 因為佛的力量而生起信心。 一心恭敬地信奉, 出世的殊勝導師, 無量百千劫, 不會墮入各種惡道。 長者造作了大罪, 如今得到清凈的信心, 因為信心的因緣, 如來為他授記。 長者自己知道罪過, 心中生起極大的憂愁煩惱, 如今得到信心后, 得到無量的福德。 心中去除邪惡的見解,
【English Translation】 English version Each Buddha-land, each name, can attain Buddhahood.
『Thus, good man! This Moonlight Youth has, in the past, countless asaṃkhya-kalpas (asaṃkhya-kalpa, immeasurable eons), taught and transformed the Elder Virtue Protector. This youth and the Elder Virtue Protector will, in the future, be constantly born in Buddha-worlds, teaching and transforming immeasurable sentient beings.』
When this predestined cause of the prophecy given to Moonlight Youth and the Elder Virtue Protector was spoken, immeasurable worlds shook in six ways, great light universally illuminated, raining down various heavenly flowers, raining down various heavenly treasures, raining down heavenly necklaces, raining down heavenly jeweled canopies, raining down various heavenly garments, raining down heavenly sandalwood powder incense, raining down heavenly aloeswood incense, raining down heavenly tagara incense, raining down heavenly utpalas (utpala, blue lotus), raining down heavenly padmas (padma, red lotus). Heavenly music emitted subtle sounds, as well as the sounds of heavenly singing and so on; all of this was the Buddha's supernatural power, and also the power of Moonlight's past good roots, for the sake of transforming the Elder Virtue Protector and his family, and also for the sake of transforming devas, nāgas, yakshas (yaksha, a type of guardian spirit), gandharvas (gandharva, a type of celestial musician), asuras (asura, a type of warring deity), garuḍas (garuḍa, a type of giant bird), kiṃnaras (kiṃnara, a type of celestial being, half-human half-bird), mahoragas (mahoraga, a type of giant serpent spirit), and so on.
At that time, a family member of the greatest Elder Virtue Protector, named Virtue, seeing the Buddha's various supernatural powers, and also seeing the eight classes of gods and dragons (deva-nāga-yaksha-gandharva-asura-garuḍa-kiṃnara-mahoraga, eight classes of non-human beings) making great offerings, spoke verses to the Buddha, praising the Buddha, saying:
『Homage to the Buddha of Great Wisdom, The Śākya-siṃha-tathāgata (Śākya-siṃha-tathāgata, an epithet of Shakyamuni Buddha), If one can generate faith, Then one will obtain great benefit. Previously believing in external paths, Creating various evil deeds, Now believing in the World Honored One, Obtaining such great benefit. Seeing this inconceivable thing, Who would not believe in the Buddha? Such a person with heavy sins, Through the Buddha's power generates faith. With one mind, respectfully believing, The supreme guide who transcends the world, For countless hundreds of thousands of kalpas, Will not fall into the various evil paths. The elder created great sins, Now obtains pure faith, Because of the cause of faith, The Tathagata gives him a prophecy. The elder knows his own sins, His heart generates great sorrow and distress, Now having obtained faith, He obtains immeasurable blessings. Removing evil views from his heart,
一切罪皆懺, 于佛世尊所, 而作清凈心。 一心信佛故, 以是信因緣, 來世當作佛, 不思議法王。 初于佛生惡, 而今深生信, 佈施因緣故, 得清凈業藏。 于佛生信者, 一切信此人, 彼人福德聚, 不可得稱量。」
爾時,長者德護,頭面禮佛及一切阿羅漢,一切菩薩眾已,次第行百味飲食。
爾時世尊說此法已,離攀緣德菩薩、月光童子並長者德護,一切內外眷屬大菩薩眾,及天、龍、夜叉、犍闥婆等一切大眾,皆大歡喜,作禮奉行。

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本: 我懺悔一切罪業, 在佛陀世尊面前,以清凈之心懺悔。 因一心信仰佛陀的緣故,以這樣的信仰因緣, 來世必定成佛,成為不可思議的法王。 起初對佛陀生起惡念,而今深深地生起信心, 因佈施的因緣,獲得清凈的業果寶藏。 對於佛陀生起信心的人,一切眾生都會信任此人, 此人的福德聚集,不可稱量。
當時,長者德護(Dehu),以頭面頂禮佛陀以及一切阿羅漢(Arahan),一切菩薩眾之後,依次供養百味飲食。
當時世尊說完此法之後,離攀緣德菩薩(Lipanyuan De Pusa)、月光童子(Yueguang Tongzi)以及長者德護(Dehu),一切內外眷屬大菩薩眾,以及天(Tian)、龍(Long)、夜叉(Yacha)、犍闥婆(Jiantapo)等一切大眾,都非常歡喜,行禮並奉行佛法。

【English Translation】 English version: I repent of all sins, Before the Buddha, the World Honored One, I make a pure heart. Because of wholeheartedly believing in the Buddha, by this cause and condition of faith, In the future life, I will surely become a Buddha, an inconceivable Dharma King. Initially, I generated evil thoughts towards the Buddha, but now I deeply generate faith, Because of the cause and condition of giving, I obtain a pure treasury of karmic results. Those who generate faith in the Buddha, all beings will trust this person, This person's accumulation of blessings and virtues is immeasurable.
At that time, the Elder Dehu (Dehu), with his head and face prostrated before the Buddha and all Arhats (Arahan), and all the Bodhisattvas, then offered various delicious foods in order.
At that time, after the World Honored One finished speaking this Dharma, the Bodhisattva Lipanyuan De (Lipanyuan De Pusa), the Moonbeam Youth (Yueguang Tongzi), and the Elder Dehu (Dehu), all the great Bodhisattvas among their inner and outer relatives, as well as all the great assembly of Devas (Tian), Nagas (Long), Yakshas (Yacha), Gandharvas (Jiantapo), and others, were all greatly delighted, paid homage, and practiced accordingly.
