聞如是:
一時佛在羅閱祇耆阇崛山中,與諸菩薩、大弟子、學士、學女,諸天人民、阿須倫、鬼神、龍無央數共會,時佛說經。
爾時會中,有長者梵志,名曰須檀,有婦名捭樓延,與九百七十五億婦人俱,叉手聽經。時捭樓延懷妊,是女在母胎中,形體盡具,亦于胎中叉手聽經。賢者阿那律,自以功德徹視之力,見此女子于胞胎中叉手聽經,即自念言:「想在會者目之所睹,未能探察無形之事,如我者也。」則自僥倖光色愉悅。
佛告阿那律:「汝見何等,心色悅異乃如是也?」
阿那律言:「我以徹視,見胎中女叉手聽經,是以熙怡用自慶耳。」
佛言:「善哉,善哉!如汝所言。譬如眾星比日月光,寧為等不?汝于聲聞所見第一無逮汝者,如來所觀等見十方飛鳥走獸、地中諸蟲皆有懷妊,子于胎中亦悉如汝一等聽經。」

【English Translation】 English version The Sutra of the Virtuous Immaculate Woman Spoken by the Buddha
Translated by the Tripiṭaka Master竺法護 (Zhú Fǎhù) of the Western Jin Dynasty
Thus have I heard:
At one time, the Buddha was in Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa (Vulture Peak) in Rāmagṛha (Rajgir), together with numerous beings such as Bodhisattvas, great disciples, scholars, female scholars, gods, humans, Asuras (demigods), ghosts, spirits, and dragons. At that time, the Buddha was expounding the Dharma.
At that time, in the assembly, there was a Brahmin householder named Sudāna, whose wife was named Bhalliyā. Together with nine hundred and seventy-five billion women, they joined their palms and listened to the Sutra. At that time, Bhalliyā was pregnant. The daughter in her womb had fully formed her body and was also joining her palms in the womb to listen to the Sutra. The worthy Aniruddha, with his power of merit and penetrating vision, saw this girl joining her palms in the womb to listen to the Sutra. He thought to himself, 'Those in the assembly can only see with their eyes and cannot perceive formless things, as I can.' Then he felt fortunate and his face was filled with joy.
The Buddha said to Aniruddha, 'What have you seen that makes your heart so joyful?'
Aniruddha said, 'With my penetrating vision, I saw the girl in the womb joining her palms to listen to the Sutra, and that is why I am so happy.'
The Buddha said, 'Excellent, excellent! It is as you say. For example, can the light of the stars be compared to the light of the sun and moon? What you have seen among the Śrāvakas (hearers) is the foremost, and no one can surpass you. What the Tathāgata observes is that he can equally see all the birds and beasts in the ten directions, and all the insects in the ground, all of whom are pregnant, and their children in the womb are also listening to the Sutra just as you have seen.'
At that time, Aniruddha and all those in the assembly had doubts. The Buddha emitted light, illuminating without limit, without obstruction in the eight directions, above and below, causing all the beings in countless lands to be seen as if reflected in a mirror, both inside and out. Aniruddha and the others looked up at the empty sky and saw the birds hovering in the air, listening to what the Buddha was saying, the fetuses
中之卵未生未孚,于鳥胎中亦復舒翅布翼聽經;俯視走獸四足之類,輟草止水竦立聽經;胞胎所懷亦于胎中,屈前兩足一心聽經;蟲蛇蚯蚓地生之類,靜身不搖精意聽經;中有懷妊子未產生者,亦于胎中舉頭槃身一心聽經。
時阿那律承佛威神,以八種音問胎中女:「鳥卵蟲獸胎中之子,用何等故,叉手舒翼,屈足槃身,一心聽經?」
時女之等諸在胎者,答阿那律:「我用一切生者之類,迷於五處不識正道,是故聽經;及用一切多淫怒癡生死不絕,是故聽經;用一切人不孝父母,不供事佛及比丘僧,是故聽經。」
時阿那律,聞其所說,長跪白佛:「憶知世尊功德威神洞徹如此,我寧以身陷在地獄,受眾苦毒累劫無數,不取羅漢。所以者何?諸在胞胎未見身者,尚發大意念救一切,我今用身以死畏故,為想識所縛,譬如死人無益生者。」
時女乃生從右脅出,三千國土為大震動,有無數天止在虛空,雨于天華作諸音樂,則有自然千葉蓮華,大如車輪,莖如琉璃,女坐其上。時諸天人飛鳥走獸蟲蛇蚯蚓諸懷妊者,亦皆出生,譬如王者征行之時,群官大小莫不隨從;於是天帝,即持天衣,從上來下,以用與女,裸形可惡,取此衣著;忉利天子及諸王女,亦皆持衣與諸眾生。
時女報言:

這時,阿那律(Aniruddha)聽到她們所說的話,長跪合掌對佛說:『我這才知道世尊的功德威神如此洞徹,我寧願以身陷在地獄,遭受各種痛苦毒害,經歷無數劫,也不要證得阿羅漢果位(Arhat,小乘佛教的最高果位)。為什麼呢?那些還在胞胎中,尚未見到身體的眾生,尚且發起大愿,想要救度一切眾生,我如今卻因為貪生怕死,被想、識所束縛,就像死人一樣,對活著的人沒有任何益處。』
這時,那個女子從母親的右脅出生,三千國土發生巨大的震動,有無數的天人停留在虛空中,散落天花,演奏各種音樂,隨即出現天然的千葉蓮花,大如車輪,花莖如同琉璃,女子坐在蓮花之上。這時,諸天人、飛鳥、走獸、蟲蛇、蚯蚓以及所有懷有身孕的母親,也都一起生產,就像國王出行的時候,所有大小官員沒有不跟隨一樣;於是天帝(Deva King,佛教的護法神),立即拿著天衣,從上而下,用來給這個女子,因為裸露身體令人厭惡,穿上這件衣服;忉利天(Trāyastriṃśa,佛教欲界六天之一)的天子以及各位王女,也都拿著衣服給予這些眾生。
這時,女子回答說:
【English Translation】 English version: Those within eggs, unhatched and unfeathered, even in the wombs of birds, spread their wings and listen to the sutras; looking down upon the four-legged beasts, they cease grazing and drinking, standing upright to listen to the sutras; those within the womb, curl their forelegs and listen to the sutras with one mind; worms, snakes, earthworms, and other creatures born of the earth, still their bodies and listen to the sutras with focused intent; among them are pregnant mothers whose children are yet unborn, who also raise their heads and coil their bodies in the womb, listening to the sutras with one mind.
Then Aniruddha (one of the ten major disciples of the Buddha, known for his divine vision), relying on the Buddha's majestic power, asked the woman in the womb with eight kinds of sounds: 'Why do the eggs of birds, insects, beasts, and children in the womb, fold their hands, spread their wings, curl their legs, coil their bodies, and listen to the sutras with one mind?'
Then the women in the wombs answered Aniruddha (one of the ten major disciples of the Buddha, known for his divine vision): 'We listen to the sutras because all sentient beings are deluded by the five senses (eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body), unable to recognize the right path; and because all beings have excessive lust, anger, and ignorance, and the cycle of birth and death cannot be stopped; we listen to the sutras because all people are unfilial to their parents, and do not make offerings to the Buddha and the Sangha of monks.'
Then Aniruddha (one of the ten major disciples of the Buddha, known for his divine vision), hearing what they said, knelt down and said to the Buddha: 'Now I know that the World-Honored One's merits and majestic power are so thorough. I would rather fall into hell and suffer all kinds of pain and poison for countless kalpas (aeons), than attain the state of Arhat (the highest state in Theravada Buddhism). Why? Those who are still in the womb and have not yet seen their bodies, still make great vows to save all beings. Now I am bound by thought and consciousness because of my fear of death, like a dead person who is of no benefit to the living.'
At that moment, the woman was born from her mother's right side, and three thousand lands shook greatly. Countless devas (gods) stopped in the sky, scattering heavenly flowers and playing various kinds of music. Then there appeared natural thousand-petaled lotus flowers, as large as chariot wheels, with stems like lapis lazuli, and the woman sat upon them. At that time, all the devas (gods), birds, beasts, insects, snakes, earthworms, and all pregnant mothers also gave birth, just as when a king goes on an expedition, all the officials, great and small, follow him; then the Deva King (a protector deity in Buddhism), immediately took a heavenly robe and came down from above to give it to the woman, because her naked body was disgusting, and she put on this robe; the sons of Trāyastriṃśa Heaven (one of the six heavens of desire in Buddhism) and the daughters of the kings also took clothes and gave them to all beings.
At that time, the woman replied:
「其有未脫欲泥洹,吾等不從有所受也。卿為羅漢,我志菩薩,卿非我類,所愿不同。」
天帝復言:「我以女身裸露可惡,是以持衣用相與耳。」
女復報言:「于大乘法無男無女,我今當有自然衣來。」
佛語天帝:「如是不為裝挍女身,發菩薩心自致相好,所現無限乃為裝挍菩薩身耳。」
時舍利弗,深怪此女變動乃爾,前白佛言:「此女從何國來到是間乎,誰當送衣?」
佛言:「是女從東南方捭樓延法習佛所來,剎名閻浮檀國,去此十萬佛剎,女從本國來欲見佛,自當有衣從本國來。」衣便自然在空中來肅肅有聲,空中有音則語女言:「可著此衣,當得五通。」
又女本國盡得五通,女得衣著,便從華上下至佛所,女一舉足,天地即為六反震動,一切母人,皆發無上平等度意,飛鳥蟲獸莫不轉身即化為人,身衣天衣珠瓔服飾。女以頭面稽首佛足,三言南無三耶三佛,長跪白佛:「愿為一切諸來會者,廣說經法令得所愿。」佛隨其意即為說經。
是時此女及九百七十五億母人,聞佛所說,踴躍歡喜不復貿身,便立佛前化成男子,各各脫瓔珞珠寶用散佛上。佛之威神,令其所散自然變成珠交露帳,中有七寶師子之座,上有坐佛舉手贊之,應時皆得阿惟越致。鳥獸蟲

天帝(Deva,佛教中的護法神)又說:『我因為身為女身,形態醜陋,所以才拿著衣服來供養你。』
該女子回答說:『在大乘佛法(Mahayana,佛教的一個主要流派)中,沒有男女之分。我現在自然會有衣服到來。』
佛(Buddha,覺悟者)告訴天帝:『像這樣不為裝飾女身,發菩薩心,自然成就相好莊嚴,所展現的無量功德,才是真正莊嚴菩薩之身。』
當時,舍利弗(Sariputra,佛陀的十大弟子之一)深感奇怪,這女子的變化竟然如此之大,於是上前稟告佛說:『這女子從哪個國家來到這裡?誰會給她送衣服?』
佛說:『這女子從東南方的捭樓延法習佛處而來,那個剎土(Buddhakṣetra,佛所居住的國土)名為閻浮檀國(Jambudvipa,四大部洲之一),距離這裡有十萬佛剎。這女子從本國來,想要見佛,自然會有衣服從本國而來。』衣服便自然地在空中出現,發出肅肅的聲音,空中有聲音告訴女子說:『可以穿上這件衣服,將會獲得五神通(Pañcābhijñā,佛教中的五種神通)。』
而且這女子的本國都證得了五神通。女子得到衣服穿上后,便從蓮花上下來到佛的面前。女子每走一步,天地都會發生六種震動。一切女性都發起了無上平等度化眾生的心願,飛鳥蟲獸無不轉身立即化為人形,身穿天衣,佩戴珠玉瓔珞。女子以頭面頂禮佛足,三次稱念『南無三耶三佛(Namo Samyak-saṃbuddha,皈依正等覺佛)』,長跪稟告佛說:『愿為一切前來集會的人,廣泛宣說經法,使他們能夠如願。』佛隨順她的心意,就為他們宣說經法。
這時,這位女子以及九百七十五億女性,聽聞佛所說,踴躍歡喜,不再想改變自己的身體,便站在佛前化成男子,各自脫下瓔珞珠寶,用來散在佛的身上。佛的威神之力,使她們所散的珠寶自然變成珠交露帳,帳中出現七寶獅子之座,座上有佛舉手讚歎她們,應時都得到了阿惟越致(Avaivartika,不退轉)。鳥獸蟲
【English Translation】 English version: 『If there are still those who have not escaped desire and wish to enter Nirvana (Nirvana, cessation), we will not accept offerings from them. You are an Arhat (Arhat, the highest attainment in the Sravakayana), and I aspire to become a Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva, a practitioner seeking enlightenment); we are not of the same kind, and our aspirations differ.』
The Deva (Deva, a protector deity in Buddhism) further said, 『Because I am in a female body, which is considered undesirable, I am offering this garment.』
The woman replied, 『In the Mahayana (Mahayana, a major branch of Buddhism) Dharma, there is no distinction between male and female. I will naturally have clothing arrive.』
The Buddha (Buddha, the enlightened one) said to the Deva, 『Like this, not for adorning a female body, but generating the Bodhi mind, naturally achieving excellent marks and adornments, the limitless merits manifested, that is truly adorning the body of a Bodhisattva.』
At that time, Sariputra (Sariputra, one of the Buddha's ten great disciples) was deeply surprised by the woman's transformation and stepped forward to report to the Buddha, 『From which country did this woman come here? Who will send her clothing?』
The Buddha said, 『This woman comes from the southeast, from the place of Bhelluyana practicing the Buddha Dharma. That Buddhakṣetra (Buddhakṣetra, the land where a Buddha resides) is named Jambudvipa (Jambudvipa, one of the four continents), which is a hundred thousand Buddha-lands away from here. This woman came from her own country, wishing to see the Buddha, and clothing will naturally come from her own country.』 The clothing then naturally appeared in the air, making a rustling sound, and a voice in the air told the woman, 『You may put on this garment, and you will attain the five supernormal powers (Pañcābhijñā, the five supernormal powers in Buddhism).』
Moreover, the woman's entire country has attained the five supernormal powers. After the woman received and put on the clothing, she descended from the lotus flower to the Buddha's presence. With each step the woman took, the earth and sky shook in six ways. All the women generated the unsurpassed, equal mind of deliverance, and all the birds, insects, and beasts transformed immediately into human form, wearing celestial garments and adorned with pearl necklaces. The woman prostrated with her head at the Buddha's feet, reciting three times, 『Namo Samyak-saṃbuddha (Namo Samyak-saṃbuddha, Homage to the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha),』 and kneeling, reported to the Buddha, 『I wish to extensively expound the Dharma for all those who have come to this assembly, so that they may fulfill their wishes.』 The Buddha, according to her wish, then expounded the Dharma for them.
At that time, this woman and nine hundred seventy-five million women, hearing what the Buddha said, rejoiced and were delighted, no longer desiring to change their bodies, and transformed into men before the Buddha, each taking off their necklaces and jewels to scatter upon the Buddha. The Buddha's majestic power caused the jewels they scattered to naturally transform into a pearl-interlaced canopy, and within the canopy appeared a seven-jeweled lion throne, upon which sat a Buddha raising his hand in praise of them, and in that instant, they all attained Avaivartika (Avaivartika, non-retrogression). 蛇得為人者,亦復脫身珠瓔寶飾以用散佛,帳中坐佛,令其所散合成寶帳,亦復如前等無差特,則為達嚫,俱得七住。
佛告女菩薩無垢賢女:「汝于胞胎,為眾生作唱導,如來等正覺亦於五道,為一切眾生作唱導。」佛說經已,一切眾會,皆大歡喜,稽首而退。

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本:如果蛇能夠轉世為人,同樣可以脫下身上的珠瓔寶飾來佈施給佛,在帳中安坐佛像,使其所佈施的物品聚合成寶帳,也和之前的佈施一樣沒有差別,這就叫做『達嚫』(梵語:dakṣiṇā,意為供養),都能達到七住菩薩的果位。
佛告訴無垢賢女菩薩:『你在胞胎之中,為眾生作引導,如來等正覺也在五道之中,為一切眾生作引導。』佛說完這部經后,所有在場的聽眾,都非常歡喜,向佛稽首致敬後退下。
《佛說無垢賢女經》
【English Translation】 English version: If a snake is reborn as a human, it can also take off its pearl necklaces and precious ornaments to offer to the Buddha, placing a Buddha statue in a tent, causing the items it has offered to coalesce into a treasure tent, just as before without any difference. This is called 'Dakṣiṇā' (Sanskrit: dakṣiṇā, meaning offering), and all can attain the stage of the Seventh Dwelling.
The Buddha said to the female Bodhisattva Immaculate Virtuous Woman: 'You, in the womb, act as a guide for sentient beings; the Tathāgata (如來), the Perfectly Enlightened One, also acts as a guide for all sentient beings in the five realms.' After the Buddha finished speaking this Sutra, all those assembled were greatly rejoiced, bowed their heads in reverence, and withdrew.
'The Sutra Spoken by the Buddha on the Immaculate Virtuous Woman'
