聞如是:
一時佛在舍衛國祇洹阿難邠低阿藍。時有無央數比丘僧,皆阿羅漢也。
阿難邠低至佛所,作禮,卻坐。
佛言:「人當佈施、持戒、忍辱、精進、禪定、智慧。」
阿難邠低聞之歡喜,即起白佛:「明旦請佛及比丘僧降德到舍,設粗食。」佛默然。阿難邠低繞佛三匝而去。
佛告比丘僧:「旦日當上天投日中下,會阿難邠低舍。」
佛如伸臂頃,即住虛空中。羅漢名須檀,正衣服,于虛空中,長跪白佛:「我恒上下,未嘗冥如今日也。」
佛言:「有兩龍王,瞋恚作變,吐氣為云故也。」
復有羅漢名愛波,白佛:「欲行止之。」
佛言:「此龍大有威神。汝行者,必當興惡意,出水沒殺天下人民。」
摩訶目揵連復正衣服,長跪虛空中問佛:「今日以冥,不復見須彌山帝釋宮殿下已質樹子。」
佛言:「有兩龍王,一名難頭,二名和難,大瞋恚言:『何等沙門欲飛過,摩我頭上?』龍身繞須彌山七匝,以頭覆其上,吐氣出霧故冥。」
目連白佛:「欲往訶止之。」
佛言:「

一時,佛陀在舍衛國祇洹精舍(Jetavana Vihara),阿難邠低(Anathapindika)的園林中。當時有無數的比丘僧眾,他們都是阿羅漢。
阿難邠低來到佛陀處,行禮後退坐一旁。
佛陀說:『人應當佈施、持戒、忍辱、精進、禪定、智慧。』
阿難邠低聽了非常歡喜,立即起身稟告佛陀:『明天早上,請佛陀和比丘僧眾降臨寒舍,我將準備粗糙的食物供養。』佛陀默然應允。阿難邠低繞佛三匝后離去。
佛陀告訴比丘僧眾:『明天早上,我將升到天空,在中午時分降落,前往阿難邠低的住所。』
佛陀如伸展手臂般迅速,就已停留在虛空中。一位名叫須檀(Sudana)的羅漢,整理好衣物,在虛空中長跪稟告佛陀:『我經常上下往來,從未見過像今天這樣黑暗的景象。』

摩訶目犍連(Mahamaudgalyayana)再次整理好衣物,在虛空中長跪問佛陀:『今天如此黑暗,甚至看不見須彌山(Mount Sumeru)和帝釋(Indra)的宮殿,以及山下的已質樹子(Jizhi tree)。』

【English Translation】 English version The Sutra of the Dragon King Brothers
Translated by Zhi Qian, an Upasaka from Yuezhi in Wu
Thus have I heard:
At one time, the Buddha was in the Jetavana Vihara (G園a Grove), the Anathapindika (giver of alms to the helpless) garden in Shravasti (Savatthi). At that time, there were countless Bhikshu (monk) Sangha (community), all of whom were Arhats (enlightened beings).
Anathapindika went to the Buddha, paid his respects, and sat to one side.
The Buddha said, 'People should practice giving (dana), uphold precepts (sila), be patient (kshanti), be diligent (virya), practice meditation (dhyana), and cultivate wisdom (prajna).'
Anathapindika was delighted to hear this and immediately rose and said to the Buddha, 'Tomorrow morning, I invite the Buddha and the Bhikshu Sangha to grace my humble abode and partake in a simple meal.' The Buddha remained silent (in acceptance). Anathapindika circumambulated the Buddha three times and departed.
The Buddha told the Bhikshu Sangha, 'Tomorrow morning, I will ascend to the sky and descend around noon, arriving at Anathapindika's residence.'
In the time it takes to stretch out an arm, the Buddha was already in the void. An Arhat named Sudana (good giving), adjusted his robes, knelt in the void, and said to the Buddha, 'I constantly travel up and down, but I have never seen such darkness as today.'
The Buddha said, 'There are two Dragon Kings, who, out of anger, have transformed and are exhaling to create clouds, hence this darkness.'
Another Arhat named Aibao (love wave), said to the Buddha, 'I wish to go and stop them.'
The Buddha said, 'These dragons have great power and divine strength. If you go, it will surely provoke their malice, and they will release floods to drown and kill the people of the world.'
Mahamaudgalyayana (great Maudgalyayana) again adjusted his robes, knelt in the void, and asked the Buddha, 'Today it is so dark that I cannot even see Mount Sumeru (the central world-mountain), the palace of Indra (the lord of gods), or the Jizhi tree (quality tree) below.'
The Buddha said, 'There are two Dragon Kings, one named Nantou (difficult head), and the other named Henan (peaceful difficulty), who are very angry, saying, 「What Shramana (ascetic) dares to fly over and rub my head?」 Their dragon bodies are wrapped around Mount Sumeru seven times, covering it with their heads, and exhaling to create mist, hence this darkness.'
Maudgalyayana said to the Buddha, 'I wish to go and rebuke and stop them.'
The Buddha said,'
大善!」目連繞佛三匝而行。
釋提桓因從八萬八千玉女,於後園相娛樂。目連先過其所,天帝迎之,稽首作禮。相問訊已,乃到龍所。兩龍見之,大怒,便變化出煙,須臾復出火。目連以佛意,亦變化出煙必繞兩龍三重。稍前分身入兩龍身中,右目入,左目出;左目入,右目出;右耳入,左耳出;左耳入,右耳出;復入右鼻,左鼻出;入左鼻,右鼻出,飛入其口中。兩龍謂目連在其腹中也。目連亦復作龍身,繞兩龍十四重,以頭覆須彌及兩龍。兩龍于下悚慄,延動須彌山,以尾搏扇海水,百獸震怖。
佛遙告目連:「此龍今當能出水沒壞天下。汝且須止!」
目連言:「我從佛聞知此法。我有四神足,當信持行之。我能取是兩龍及須彌山,著掌中跳過他方天下;亦能取劑磨須彌山,令碎如塵;復能磨須彌山及下地,令萬民不覺之。」
兩龍恐懼,稽首。目連復沙門身。兩龍化作人,為目連作禮悔過。目連將至佛所。
兩龍言:「我迷狂惑,不知尊神,觸犯雷震,哀原其罪!」便受五戒而去。
阿難邠低到精舍,索佛及比丘僧,了不見一人,便長跪白佛:「飯具以嚴辦,佛可自屈。」
佛即下到其舍。飯已,阿難邠低言:「我求佛不見。佛從何所來?」
佛言:「

【English Translation】 English version 'Excellent!' Maudgalyayana (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha, known for his supernatural powers) circumambulated the Buddha three times. Śakra Devānām Indra (the lord of the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven) was entertaining himself with eighty-eight thousand jade maidens in the rear garden. Maudgalyayana passed by them first, and the Deva-king greeted him, prostrating and paying respects. After exchanging greetings, Maudgalyayana arrived at the place where the dragons were. The two dragons, seeing him, became very angry and transformed into smoke, and after a while, they transformed into flames. Maudgalyayana, using the Buddha's power, also transformed into smoke, tightly wrapping around the two dragons three times. Moving slightly forward, he divided his body and entered the bodies of the two dragons, his right eye entering and his left eye exiting; his left eye entering and his right eye exiting; his right ear entering and his left ear exiting; his left ear entering and his right ear exiting; then entering the right nostril and exiting the left nostril; entering the left nostril and exiting the right nostril, flying into their mouths. The two dragons thought that Maudgalyayana was in their bellies. Maudgalyayana also transformed into a dragon body, wrapping around the two dragons fourteen times, covering Mount Sumeru (the sacred mountain in Buddhist cosmology) and the two dragons with his head. The two dragons below felt fear and trembled, shaking Mount Sumeru, and striking the seawater with their tails, causing all the beasts to be shocked and frightened. The Buddha remotely told Maudgalyayana: 'These two dragons are now going to emerge from the water and submerge and destroy the world. You should stop for now!' Maudgalyayana said: 'I have heard and understood this Dharma power from the Buddha. I have four supernatural powers, and I should believe in and practice them. I can pick up these two dragons and Mount Sumeru, place them in the palm of my hand, and jump over to other worlds; I can also grind Mount Sumeru into powder; and I can also grind Mount Sumeru and the earth below, so that all the people will not feel it.' The two dragons felt fear and prostrated. Maudgalyayana returned to his Śrāmaṇa (Buddhist renunciate) form. The two dragons transformed into human form, paying respects to Maudgalyayana and repenting for their mistakes. Maudgalyayana brought them to the Buddha. The two dragons said: 'We were confused and crazy, not knowing your noble divine power, and offended you. We beg for forgiveness for our sins!' Then they accepted the five precepts (pañca-śīlāni, the five basic precepts that lay Buddhists should observe) and left. Ānanda Bhinnaviddhi (a personal name) came to the Vihara (Buddhist monastery), looking for the Buddha and the bhikkhu-saṃgha (Buddhist monastic community), but he did not see anyone, so he knelt down and reported to the Buddha: 'The vegetarian meal is ready, the Buddha can personally go.' The Buddha then went down to his residence. After the meal, Ānanda Bhinnaviddhi said: 'I looked for the Buddha but did not see him. Where did the Buddha come from?' The Buddha said:
目連與兩龍王共諍,適從天上來下。」
問:「誰勝者?」
佛言:「目連。」
阿難邠低言:「善哉!善哉!此龍乘戒堅強,失之毫數,罪至於龍,威神尊重。目連乃臣伏之乎!我從今日始,請佛及比丘僧宣揚目連功德。」
佛咒愿迦羅越阿難邠低:「汝前後飯食得道人,善鬼神當擁護汝家,皆令安隱。」
阿難邠低作禮而去。
龍王兄弟經

【English Translation】 English version: 『Maudgalyāyana (Maudgalyāyana, a disciple of the Buddha known for his supernatural powers) was contending with two Nāga Kings (Nāga Kings, serpentine beings with supernatural powers), having just descended from the heavens.』
Asked: 『Who was the victor?』
The Buddha said: 『Maudgalyāyana.』
Ānanda Bhindī (Ānanda Bhindī, a disciple of the Buddha known for his great memory) said: 『Excellent! Excellent! This dragon, because of its steadfast adherence to the precepts, even with a slight transgression, its punishment results in a dragon form, its majestic power is greatly revered. That Maudgalyāyana was able to subdue him! From this day forward, I request the Buddha and the bhikkhu sangha (bhikkhu sangha, the Buddhist monastic community) to proclaim the merits of Maudgalyāyana.』
The Buddha blessed Kāravika (Kāravika, a type of bird, possibly referring to someone here) Ānanda Bhindī: 『You have offered food to those who have attained the Way, before and after, may good spirits protect your home, and bring peace to all.』
Ānanda Bhindī bowed and departed.
