如是我聞:
一時,佛在大海中娑伽羅龍王宮莊嚴道場,與大比丘眾七千五百人俱,並諸得大智慧菩薩摩訶薩,自十方世界皆來集會;復有百千俱胝那由他梵王、帝釋及護世等,天龍、夜叉、乾闥婆、阿修羅、誐嚕拏、緊那羅、摩睺羅伽等亦來集會。
爾時,世尊見彼一切大眾來集會已,告娑伽羅龍王言:「龍主!觀此世間,種種行業皆從妄起;種種心法當感種種果報,若彼不了當生種種之趣。
「龍主!汝當觀此大海之眾,見作種種士夫色相。龍主!而彼一切色相,由於一切善惡身、口、意業,各各之心,種種變化;然此心法,雖云色相,由如幻化,無可取故。
「龍主!此之色相,一切諸法本無所生,亦無主宰;復無有我,亦無礙故。如是種種所作之業,諸法自性,皆幻化相,不可思議。
「龍主!若有菩薩,知一切法無生、無滅、無色、無相,如實知已,所作所修一切善業而無修作;所有色相及蘊、處、界,一切生法悉無所見;彼若如實得是見已,當復觀察殊妙色相。

一時,佛陀在大海中的娑伽羅龍王(Sāgara-nāgarāja,意為海龍王)宮殿莊嚴的道場中,與七千五百位大比丘眾在一起,還有從十方世界來的,得到大智慧的菩薩摩訶薩(bodhisattva-mahāsattva,意為大菩薩)。又有成百上千俱胝那由他(koṭi-nayuta,俱胝和那由他都是古代印度計數單位)的梵王、帝釋(Indra,意為天帝)以及護世等,天龍(deva-nāga,意為天上的龍)、夜叉(yakṣa,意為一種守護神)、乾闥婆(gandharva,意為天上的樂神)、阿修羅(asura,意為一種好戰的神)、誐嚕拏(garuḍa,意為金翅鳥)、緊那羅(kiṃnara,意為一種半人半鳥的神)和摩睺羅伽(mahoraga,意為大蟒神)等也來到這裡。
這時,世尊看到所有大眾都來了,就告訴娑伽羅龍王說:『龍主!觀察這個世間,種種行為都是從虛妄中產生的;種種心念會感得種種果報,如果不能明白這個道理,就會生到各種不同的境界中去。』
『龍主!你應該觀察這大海中的眾生,看到他們所呈現的各種各樣的士夫色相。龍主!而他們所呈現的這一切色相,都是由於一切善惡的身、口、意業,以及各自不同的心念,所產生的種種變化;然而這心法,雖然呈現為色相,卻如同幻化一般,沒有什麼可以執取的。』
『龍主!這色相,一切諸法,本來就沒有產生,也沒有主宰;既沒有我,也沒有阻礙。像這樣種種所作的業,諸法的自性,都是幻化的相,不可思議。』
『龍主!如果有菩薩,知道一切法不生、不滅、無色、無相,如實地知道這些之後,所作所修的一切善業,都沒有修作的執著;對於所有色相以及蘊(skandha,意為構成個體的五種要素)、處(āyatana,意為感覺器官和感覺對像)、界(dhātu,意為構成世界的要素),一切生法,都沒有任何見解;如果他能夠如實地獲得這種見解,就應當進一步觀察殊妙的色相。』

The Great Vehicle Sutra Spoken by the Buddha for the Sāgara-nāgarāja
Translated by the Tripiṭaka Master Shi Hu, Minister of the Honglu Temple and Great Master who transmits the Dharma, under Imperial Decree, from the Western Regions.
Thus have I heard:
At one time, the Buddha was in the Sāgara-nāgarāja's palace in the great ocean, in a magnificently adorned maṇḍala (sacred space), together with seven thousand five hundred great bhikṣus (monks), and bodhisattva-mahāsattvas (great bodhisattvas) of great wisdom who had come from the ten directions. Furthermore, there were hundreds of thousands of koṭi-nayutas (ancient Indian numerical units) of Brahma Kings, Indra (Lord of the Gods), and world protectors, as well as deva-nāgas (divine dragons), yakṣas (nature spirits), gandharvas (celestial musicians), asuras (demigods), garuḍas (mythical birds), kiṃnaras (mythical beings, half-human and half-bird), and mahoragas (great serpents) who had also come.
Then, the World-Honored One, seeing that all the great assembly had come, said to the Sāgara-nāgarāja: 'Lord of Dragons! Observe this world; all kinds of actions arise from delusion. Various mental states will bring about various karmic results. If they do not understand this, they will be born into various realms of existence.'
'Lord of Dragons! You should observe the beings in this great ocean, seeing the various appearances of individuals. Lord of Dragons! All these appearances arise from the various good and evil deeds of body, speech, and mind, and from the various transformations of their individual minds. However, although these mental phenomena appear as forms, they are like illusions, and there is nothing to grasp.'
'Lord of Dragons! These appearances, all dharmas (phenomena), are originally unborn and without a master; they are without self and without obstruction. Thus, all the actions that are performed, the self-nature of all dharmas, are like illusory appearances, inconceivable.'
'Lord of Dragons! If a bodhisattva knows that all dharmas are unborn, unceasing, without form, and without characteristics, and truly understands this, then all the good deeds they perform and cultivate are without the attachment of cultivation. They have no perception of any form, skandhas (aggregates), āyatanas (sense bases), or dhātus (elements), or any arising dharmas. If they truly attain this view, they should further contemplate the sublime and wondrous appearances.'
龍主!殊妙色相,云何觀察?當觀如來身相。如來身者,皆從百千俱胝那由他福德之所生故。又如是之相,云何嚴持?云何恭信?當得如是之相,復得人間、天上無老無死?復得十百千他化自在天身,乃至大梵天身?此由心不散亂,專注觀想、瞻仰如來最妙之身;實知此身,一切色相殊妙莊嚴,皆從善業所集而得。
「龍主!如汝住宮,一切莊嚴亦福所生。至於梵王、帝釋及護世等,乃至天龍、夜叉、乾闥婆、阿修羅、迦樓羅、緊曩羅、摩睺羅伽、人非人等,所有一切莊嚴皆福所生。
「龍主!又此大海之中,所有眾生種種,或有廣大,或復微細多住醜陋;彼一切身,皆由種種心之所化。龍主!是故說言『隨身、口、意業之所得』。龍主!如是之報,以業為因,業為主宰。汝當令諸眾生起智慧心,所作所修,隨學善業;于諸邪見,不作不住;知彼邪見,非為究竟。如是知已,一切眾生,當求為師咸來供養,並得天上、人間歸信供養。
「龍主!而有一法,能令眾生斷於一切惡趣之業。云何一法?所謂觀察善法。而彼善法,云何觀察?當觀自身。我于日夜行、住、坐、臥,所興心意,無不是過。如是覺察,令四威儀中諸不善法,不得發生。如是斷盡諸不善法,當令善法而得具足。復使一切同善眾生,

『龍主(Nāga chief)!又在這大海之中,所有眾生種種,或者廣大,或者微細,多數長得醜陋;他們的一切身形,都是由種種心念所化現。龍主(Nāga chief)!所以說『隨著身、口、意業的所得』。龍主(Nāga chief)!這樣的果報,以業為因,業為主宰。你應該讓眾生髮起智慧心,所作所修,都隨順學習善業;對於各種邪見,不去做,不執著;知道那些邪見,不是究竟的真理。這樣知道后,一切眾生,應當尋求善知識作為老師,都來供養,並且得到天上、人間的歸信和供養。』
『龍主(Nāga chief)!有一種法,能夠讓眾生斷除一切惡趣的業。什麼是一法?就是觀察善法。而那善法,應當如何觀察?應當觀察自身。我于日夜的行、住、坐、臥中,所生起的心念,沒有不是過錯的。這樣覺察,讓四威儀(行、住、坐、臥)中的各種不善法,不得發生。這樣斷盡各種不善法,應當讓善法得以具足。並且使一切行善的眾生,
【English Translation】 English version: Nāga chief! How should one observe the excellent and wondrous physical characteristics? One should observe the physical characteristics of the Tathāgata (如來). The physical characteristics of the Tathāgata (如來) are all born from hundreds of thousands of koṭinayutas (俱胝那由他, an extremely large number) of merits. Furthermore, how can one uphold such characteristics with reverence? How can one respectfully believe in them? How can one attain such characteristics and also be free from old age and death in the human and heavenly realms? How can one attain the body of the Paranirmitavaśavartin (他化自在天, the sixth heaven of the desire realm), even the body of the Mahābrahmā (大梵天, the lord of the first dhyana heaven of the form realm)? This is because the mind is not scattered, but focused on contemplating and gazing upon the most wondrous body of the Tathāgata (如來); truly knowing that this body, with all its excellent and wondrously adorned characteristics, is obtained from the accumulation of good deeds.
'Nāga chief! Just like the palace where you reside, all its adornments are also born from merit. As for Brahmā (梵王, lord of the form realm), Indra (帝釋, lord of the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven), and the Lokapālas (護世, guardians of the world), even the nāgas (天龍, dragons of the heavens), yakṣas (夜叉, a type of spirit), gandharvas (乾闥婆, celestial musicians), asuras (阿修羅, a type of warring deity), garuḍas (迦樓羅, a type of large bird), kiṃnaras (緊曩羅, a type of half-human, half-bird deity), mahoragas (摩睺羅伽, a type of great serpent deity), humans, non-humans, and so on, all their adornments are born from merit.'
'Nāga chief! Furthermore, within this great ocean, all kinds of beings, some vast, some minute, mostly dwelling in ugliness; all their forms are manifested by various thoughts. Nāga chief! Therefore, it is said, 'According to the attainment of body, speech, and mind karma.' Nāga chief! Such retribution has karma as its cause and karma as its master. You should cause all beings to generate a mind of wisdom, and in their actions and cultivation, follow and learn good karma; towards all wrong views, do not act upon them, do not dwell in them; know that those wrong views are not ultimate truth. Having known this, all beings should seek virtuous teachers as guides, come to make offerings, and receive the faith and offerings of both heavenly and human realms.'
'Nāga chief! There is one dharma that can enable beings to cut off the karma of all evil destinies. What is that one dharma? It is observing good dharmas. And how should one observe those good dharmas? One should observe oneself. In my daily activities of walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, the thoughts that arise in my mind are all faults. Being aware of this, prevent all unwholesome dharmas from arising in the four dignities (walking, standing, sitting, and lying down). Having completely cut off all unwholesome dharmas, one should allow good dharmas to be complete. And cause all beings who practice goodness,'
悉皆當得聲聞、辟支及菩薩等,乃至無上正等正覺之位。
「龍主!云何善法?我今說之。所謂十善之業,是為一切根本安住;是生天上、人間根本安住;世間、出世間殊勝善法根本安住;聲聞、辟支佛、菩薩根本安住;無上正等正覺根本安住。云何為彼根本安住?所謂十善業道。若能遠離殺生、偷盜、邪淫、妄語、綺語、惡口、兩舌,乃至貪、瞋、邪見等,若能如是遠離,是為十善業道;乃是世間、出世間根本安住。
「龍主!士夫、補特伽羅遠離殺生,獲得十種善法。云何十法?所謂得無畏施;他一切眾生得住慈心;得正行,得不起一切眾生過失之念;得少病;樂得壽命長;得種種非人而作擁護;于眠睡、覺寤,皆悉安隱;又得賢聖守護,心不厭舍;于睡夢中,不見惡業苦惱之事;自得不怖一切惡趣;命終之後得生天上。龍主!士夫、補特伽羅,獲得如是十種善法,行菩薩道,得善心住;善根成熟,當得無上正等菩提。
「龍主!士夫、補特伽羅遠離偷盜,獲得十依止法。云何為十?所謂得大富自在,得免王難,得免水火、賊盜、冤家之難;得多眷屬善順和睦;得多人愛樂,不相苦惱,凡所言說,一切諦信;得無量財寶皆悉集聚;得此方、他方一切稱讚;於一切行處無怖、無畏;得他稱善名、

『龍主(Nāga Lord)!士夫(masculine person)、補特伽羅(Pudgala,人)遠離殺生,能夠獲得十種善法。是哪十種善法呢?就是獲得無畏佈施;令其他一切眾生都能安住于慈心;獲得正行;不會生起對一切眾生過失的念頭;少生疾病;樂於獲得長壽;得到種種非人(非人類的眾生)的擁護;在睡眠和覺醒時,都能夠安穩;又能夠得到賢聖的守護,內心不會厭倦捨棄;在睡夢中,不會見到惡業苦惱的事情;自己不會怖畏一切惡趣;命終之後能夠往生天上。龍主(Nāga Lord)!士夫(masculine person)、補特伽羅(Pudgala,人)獲得如此十種善法,行菩薩道,能夠得到善心安住;善根成熟,就能夠證得無上正等菩提(Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi,最高的、平等的、正確的覺悟)。』
『龍主(Nāga Lord)!士夫(masculine person)、補特伽羅(Pudgala,人)遠離偷盜,能夠獲得十種依止法。什麼是十種依止法呢?就是獲得大富自在,能夠免除王難,能夠免除水火、賊盜、冤家的災難;能夠得到眾多眷屬的善順和睦;能夠得到許多人的愛樂,不互相苦惱,凡所說的話,一切都真實可信;能夠得到無量財寶都聚集在一起;能夠得到此方、他方一切的稱讚;在一切行住之處沒有怖畏;能夠得到他人稱讚善名。
【English Translation】 All will attain the positions of Śrāvaka (hearer, a practitioner who attains enlightenment by listening to the Buddha's teachings), Pratyekabuddha (a solitary Buddha who attains enlightenment independently), and Bodhisattva (a being who vows to attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all beings), and even the position of Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi (unexcelled, complete and perfect enlightenment).
'Nāga Lord! What are wholesome dharmas? I will now explain them. The so-called ten wholesome actions are the fundamental basis for all; they are the fundamental basis for being born in the heavens and among humans; they are the fundamental basis for superior wholesome dharmas in the world and beyond the world; they are the fundamental basis for Śrāvakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas; they are the fundamental basis for Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi. What is that fundamental basis? It is the ten paths of wholesome actions. If one can refrain from killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, false speech, frivolous speech, harsh speech, divisive speech, and even greed, hatred, and wrong views, if one can refrain in this way, this is the ten paths of wholesome actions; it is the fundamental basis for the world and beyond the world.'
'Nāga Lord! A masculine person (Śrāvaka), a Pudgala (person), who refrains from killing obtains ten kinds of wholesome dharmas. What are the ten dharmas? They are obtaining the gift of fearlessness; all other beings are able to abide in loving-kindness; obtaining right conduct; not giving rise to thoughts of the faults of all beings; having few illnesses; enjoying a long life; being protected by various non-human beings; being peaceful in sleep and wakefulness; and being guarded by the wise and noble, with a mind that does not tire of abandoning; in dreams, not seeing evil deeds or suffering; oneself not fearing all evil destinies; and after death, being born in the heavens. Nāga Lord! A masculine person (Śrāvaka), a Pudgala (person), who obtains these ten kinds of wholesome dharmas, practices the Bodhisattva path, obtains the abiding of a wholesome mind; wholesome roots mature, and one will attain Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi (unexcelled, complete and perfect enlightenment).'
'Nāga Lord! A masculine person (Śrāvaka), a Pudgala (person), who refrains from stealing obtains ten supports. What are the ten? They are obtaining great wealth and freedom, being spared from royal troubles, being spared from the dangers of water, fire, thieves, and enemies; obtaining many relatives who are kind, obedient, and harmonious; being loved by many people, not causing suffering to each other, and all that is said is truthful and trustworthy; obtaining immeasurable treasures that are all gathered together; obtaining praise from all directions, both here and elsewhere; having no fear or dread in all places of conduct; and obtaining the good name of being praised by others.'
贊于智慧;又得色力、壽命、辭辯相應;于親非親,心無分別,不生惱害;命終之後,得生天界。
「龍主!士夫、補特伽羅遠離偷盜,獲得如是十依止法。以彼善根,于諸佛法自能證知,當得無上正等正覺。
「龍主!士夫、補特伽羅遠離邪淫,獲得四智善法。云何為四?所謂降伏諸根;離於散亂;得世間一切稱讚;復得無量營從。
「龍主!士夫、補特伽羅遠離邪淫,獲得如是四智善法;以此善根,當得無上正等正覺;復證大丈夫陰藏隱密之相。
「龍主!士夫、補特伽羅遠離妄語,獲得天上、人間八種善法。云何為八?所謂得口處清凈,常如青蓮華香;又得世間一切正見;得天上、人間一切愛樂;得身、口、意清凈,化彼一切有情,令住三業清凈之行;得清凈已,咸皆歡喜;得真實語,言必誠信;得過人辯,所出言辭,咸有方便;于天上、人間離諸過失。龍主!士夫、補特伽羅遠離妄語,獲得如是天上、人間八種善法;而彼善根獲得口業清凈、誠實正行,當得無上正等正覺。
「龍主!士夫、補特伽羅遠離綺語,當得三種一向之法。云何三種?所謂得知法者,一向愛樂;得一向真實,復生智慧,得一向為人天師;天上、人間,一切信樂。龍主!士夫、補特伽羅遠離綺語,獲得如

『龍主(Nagaraja,龍王)!如果一個人、一個補特伽羅(Pudgala,人)遠離妄語,就能獲得天上和人間這八種善法。什麼是八種呢?就是能夠得到清凈的口業,口中常有如青蓮花一般的香氣;又能得到世間一切正確的見解;得到天上和人間一切眾生的愛戴和喜悅;得到身、口、意的清凈,教化他們一切有情眾生,讓他們安住在身、口、意三業清凈的行為中;得到清凈之後,大家都感到歡喜;得到真實的話語,所說的話一定誠實可信;得到過人的辯才,所說的話,都具有善巧方便;在天上和人間遠離各種過失。龍主(Nagaraja,龍王)!如果一個人、一個補特伽羅(Pudgala,人)遠離妄語,就能獲得天上和人間這八種善法;憑藉這些善根,能夠獲得口業的清凈、誠實和正當的行為,最終獲得無上正等正覺(Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi,無上圓滿的覺悟)。』

『Nagaraja (Dragon Lord, Dragon King)! If a person, a Pudgala (person), refrains from stealing, they will obtain these ten dependent dharmas. With these roots of goodness, they will be able to realize the Buddhadharma themselves and attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment).』
『Nagaraja (Dragon Lord, Dragon King)! If a person, a Pudgala (person), refrains from sexual misconduct, they will obtain four wise and virtuous dharmas. What are the four? They are subduing the senses; being free from distraction; obtaining all praise in the world; and obtaining countless followers.』
『Nagaraja (Dragon Lord, Dragon King)! If a person, a Pudgala (person), refrains from sexual misconduct, they will obtain these four wise and virtuous dharmas; with these roots of goodness, they will attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment); and they will realize the hidden mark of a great man』s concealed genitals.』
『Nagaraja (Dragon Lord, Dragon King)! If a person, a Pudgala (person), refrains from false speech, they will obtain eight virtuous dharmas in the heavens and the human realm. What are the eight? 'Dragon Lord (King of Dragons)! A person, a Pudgala (individual), who abstains from harsh speech, obtains eight kinds of purification of speech misconduct, and thus obtains eight kinds of good qualities. What are the eight? They are: speaking truthfully, speaking lovingly, speaking according to meaning, speaking gently, speaking without possessiveness, speaking words that many people love to hear, speaking kindly, and speaking words that are meaningful and beneficial. Dragon Lord! A person, a Pudgala, who abstains from harsh speech, obtains these eight kinds of pure speech karma; with these roots of goodness, dedicating them to Bodhi, in the future they will attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, and will also obtain the supreme pure Brahma sound.'
'Dragon Lord! A person, a Pudgala, who abstains from divisive speech, should obtain five kinds of steadfastness. What are the five kinds of steadfastness? They are: obtaining steadfastness of body, thus being able to stay away from all fearsome calamities; obtaining steadfastness of retinue, not being coveted by others; obtaining steadfastness of faith, obtaining the karmic reward of faith; obtaining steadfastness of Dharma, obtaining the firmness of the fruit of realization; obtaining steadfastness of good friends, constantly receiving loving speech and acceptance. Dragon Lord! A person, a Pudgala, who abstains from divisive speech, obtains these five kinds of steadfastness; with these roots of goodness, dedicating them to Bodhi, they should attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi; so that all heretics, Mara kings (demon kings), etc., will not be able to destroy it.'
'Dragon Lord! A person, a Pudgala, who abstains from the poison of greed, obtains eight kinds of good qualities. What are the eight? They are: obtaining the elimination of greed, obtaining the non-arising of murderous thoughts, obtaining the non-arising of jealousy, obtaining joy in being born into a noble family, with the mind being respected by the sages; obtaining loving-kindness, benefiting all sentient beings with good karma; obtaining a handsome body; obtaining respect from many people; obtaining birth in the Brahma world. Nāga Lord! A puruṣa and a pudgala, by being away from the poison of anger, obtain these five kinds of fulfillment; with these good roots, dedicating them to Bodhi, they attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, and are revered by the three realms. 『Nāga Lord! A puruṣa and a pudgala, by being away from wrong views, obtain ten kinds of meritorious dharmas. What are the ten? They are: obtaining peace and goodness in one's own mind and good companions on the path; deeply believing in cause and effect, not committing sinful deeds for the sake of one's life; soon attaining the position of a virtuous sage; not being confused by good dharmas, practicing the conduct of humans and gods; not falling into the realms of animals and Yama; walking on the holy path, obtaining the supreme blessings; being able to be away from all wrong dharmas; being able to be away from the view of self; being able to see that the nature of all sins is empty; and in the heavens and among humans, conduct is upright and without deficiency. Nāga Lord! A puruṣa and a pudgala, by being away from wrong views, obtain these ten kinds of merits; with these good roots, dedicating them to Bodhi, they can quickly realize all Buddha dharmas and attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. 『Nāga Lord! Furthermore, observing the subtle actions of the ten non-virtuous dharmas, one mostly falls into the realms of hell, hungry ghosts, and animals. 『Nāga Lord! If a Bodhisattva refrains from the poison of anger, practices the Bodhisattva path, and engages in giving, they will attain great wealth and acquire immeasurable blessings; towards enemies, their heart will not give rise to anger; upon hearing the essential teachings of the Buddha, they will be able to generate deep faith.』 『Nāga Lord! If a Bodhisattva refrains from wrong views, practices the Bodhisattva path, and engages in giving, they will attain great wealth and acquire immeasurable blessings; they will have correct views regarding the Three Jewels (Triratna); they will always be near the Buddha, able to hear the wonderful Dharma; and they will make offerings to the Sangha.』
常無懈退;教化眾生,令發菩提之心。
「龍主!若能修此十善之業,行菩薩道,初以佈施而為莊嚴,果報圓滿,得大富貴。
「若以持戒而為莊嚴,果報圓滿,得一切佛法,愿滿具足。
「若以忍辱而為莊嚴,果報圓滿,得佛菩提三十二相、八十種好,復得梵音具足。
「若以精進而為莊嚴,果報圓滿,當能降伏天魔、外道,以諸佛法而救度之。
「若以禪定而為莊嚴,果報圓滿,當得正念、清凈、法行具足。
「若以智慧而為莊嚴,果報圓滿,當得永斷一切邪見。
「若以大慈而為莊嚴,果報圓滿,能令一切眾生,降伏一切微細煩惱。

如果以持戒來作為莊嚴,那麼果報就會圓滿,獲得一切佛法,願望圓滿具足。
如果以忍辱來作為莊嚴,那麼果報就會圓滿,獲得佛陀菩提的三十二相和八十種好,並且獲得圓滿的梵音。

如果以四念處來作為莊嚴,那麼對於身、受、心、法都能完全理解。
如果以四正斷來作為莊嚴,能夠使一切不善的法全部斷滅,得到一切善法圓滿。
如果以四神足來作為莊嚴,能夠使身心都獲得輕快和利益。
如果以五根來作為莊嚴,就能夠得到信心和精進而不退轉,內心沒有迷惑,明瞭各種業。
【English Translation】 English version: Always be diligent without懈退 (xie tui,懈怠退縮, laxity and regression); teach and transform sentient beings, causing them to generate the mind of Bodhi (菩提, awakening).
'Nāga Lord (龍主, Lord of the Nāgas)! If one can cultivate these ten wholesome karmas and practice the Bodhisattva path, initially using generosity as adornment, the karmic result will be complete, and one will attain great wealth and nobility.
If one uses morality (持戒, upholding precepts) as adornment, the karmic result will be complete, and one will attain all the Buddha-dharma, with wishes fulfilled and complete.
If one uses patience (忍辱, forbearance) as adornment, the karmic result will be complete, and one will attain the thirty-two marks and eighty minor characteristics of a Buddha's Bodhi, and also attain perfect Brahma-like sound.
If one uses diligence (精進, effort) as adornment, the karmic result will be complete, and one will be able to subdue the heavenly demons and external paths, and save them with the Buddha-dharma.
If one uses meditation (禪定, dhyana) as adornment, the karmic result will be complete, and one will attain right mindfulness, purity, and complete practice of the Dharma.
If one uses wisdom (智慧, prajna) as adornment, the karmic result will be complete, and one will be able to permanently cut off all wrong views.
If one uses great loving-kindness (大慈, mahā-maitrī) as adornment, the karmic result will be complete, and one will be able to cause all sentient beings to subdue all subtle afflictions.
If one uses great compassion (大悲, mahā-karuṇā) as adornment, the karmic result will be complete, and one will attain that all sentient beings will not be厭舍 (yan she,厭惡捨棄, disgusted and abandoned).
If one uses great joy (大喜, mahā-muditā) as adornment, the karmic result will be complete, and one will attain a state of single-mindedness without distraction.
If one uses great equanimity (大舍, mahā-upekṣā) as adornment, the karmic result will be complete, and all subtle afflictions will be completely eliminated.
Nāga Lord (龍主, Lord of the Nāgas)! Even using the four means of attraction (四攝法, catuḥ-saṃgraha-vastu) as adornment, the karmic result will be complete, and one will be able to cause all sentient beings to follow and be guided.
If one uses the four foundations of mindfulness (四念處, catuḥ-smṛtyupasthāna) as adornment, one will be able to fully understand the body, sensations, mind, and phenomena.
If one uses the four right exertions (四正斷, catvāri prahāṇāni) as adornment, one will be able to completely cut off all unwholesome dharmas and attain the perfection of all wholesome dharmas.
If one uses the four bases of miraculous power (四神足, catvāra ṛddhipādāḥ) as adornment, one will be able to attain lightness and benefit in both body and mind.
If one uses the five roots (五根, pañcendriyāṇi) as adornment, one will attain unwavering faith and diligence, a mind without confusion, and understanding of all karmas.'
因,永滅煩惱。
「若以五力而為莊嚴,當得不愚、不癡,及得永斷貧窮過失。
「若以七覺支而為莊嚴,當得覺悟一切如實之法。
「若以八正道而為莊嚴,當能證得正智。
「若以奢摩他而為莊嚴,當得斷於一切煩惱。
「若以尾缽舍曩莊嚴,當得了悟一切法之智慧。
「若以正道而為莊嚴,當於有為、無為、一切方便,悉能了知。
「龍主!我今略說十善之法而有莊嚴,至於十力、四智,及十八不共之法,乃至如來一切法分,皆得圓滿。
「龍主!乃至廣大解說此十善業道莊嚴之事,當令修學。龍主!譬如大地,能與人界一切國城、聚落,乃至林樹及藥草等而為安住;又復諸業皆有種子,種子既有四大而成;由如種穀初生芽莖,乃至成熟,皆依于地。龍主!此十善業道,能為天上、人間一切有情,勝妙安住;能令一切有為、無為,得智果報;一切聲聞及辟支佛,乃至菩薩、無上正等正覺而為安住;亦復為一切佛法根本安住。
「龍主!我此所說,汝等一切,當以正心而生信解。」

當時,娑伽羅龍王(Sāgara-nāgarāja)以及在法會中的諸位菩薩摩訶薩(Bodhisattva-mahāsattva),一切聲聞(Śrāvaka)以及天(Deva)、人(Manusya)、阿修羅(Asura)、乾闥婆(Gandharva)等一切大眾,聽聞佛所說,歡喜奉行。

【English Translation】 English version Because of this, afflictions are eternally extinguished.
'If one adorns oneself with the Five Powers (faith, diligence, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom), one will attain non-ignorance, non-delusion, and will eternally cut off the faults of poverty.'
'If one adorns oneself with the Seven Factors of Enlightenment (mindfulness, investigation of phenomena, energy, joy, tranquility, concentration, and equanimity), one will attain the enlightenment of all truths as they are.'
'If one adorns oneself with the Eightfold Noble Path (right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration), one will be able to realize right wisdom.'
'If one adorns oneself with Śamatha (tranquility), one will be able to cut off all afflictions.'
'If one adorns oneself with Vipaśyanā (insight), one will be able to understand the wisdom of all dharmas.'
'If one adorns oneself with the Right Path, one will be able to fully understand conditioned, unconditioned, and all expedient means.'
'Dragon Lord (Sāgara-nāgarāja)! I have now briefly spoken of adorning oneself with the Ten Virtuous Dharmas, and as for the Ten Powers (the ten powers of a Tathāgata), the Four Wisdoms (Great Mirror Wisdom, Equality Wisdom, Discriminating Wisdom, Accomplishing Wisdom), and the Eighteen Unshared Dharmas (the eighteen unique qualities of a Tathāgata not shared with Śrāvakas or Pratyekabuddhas), and even all the Dharma divisions of the Tathāgata, all will be perfected.'
'Dragon Lord (Sāgara-nāgarāja)! One should extensively explain the matter of adorning oneself with these Ten Virtuous Karmic Paths, and one should cause beings to cultivate and learn them. Dragon Lord (Sāgara-nāgarāja)! For example, the earth can provide all the countries, cities, villages, and even forests, trees, and medicinal herbs in the human realm with a place to dwell; moreover, all actions have seeds, and seeds are composed of the Four Great Elements (earth, water, fire, and wind); just as when a grain of rice first sprouts, and until it matures, it all depends on the earth. Dragon Lord (Sāgara-nāgarāja)! These Ten Virtuous Karmic Paths can provide all sentient beings in heaven and the human realm with a superior and wonderful place to dwell; they can cause all conditioned and unconditioned dharmas to attain the fruit of wisdom; they can provide a place to dwell for all Śrāvakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and even Bodhisattvas and Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi; they also serve as the fundamental basis for the dwelling of all Buddha-dharma.'
'Dragon Lord (Sāgara-nāgarāja)! All of you should generate faith and understanding with a righteous mind in what I have said.'
At that time, the Sāgara-nāgarāja (Sāgara-nāgarāja), along with all the Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas (Bodhisattva-mahāsattva) in the assembly, all the Śrāvakas (Śrāvaka), and all the great assembly of Devas (Deva), Manusyas (Manusya), Asuras (Asura), Gandharvas (Gandharva), and others, having heard what the Buddha said, rejoiced and practiced accordingly.
