禪行法想經

後漢安息國三藏安世高譯

聞如是:

一時,佛游于舍衛祇樹給孤獨園。佛告:「諸比丘!」比丘受教,從佛而聽。

佛言:「諸比丘!若以彈指間,思惟死想,念有身皆死,是為精進行禪,為如佛教,不是愚癡食國人施也,何況多行者!取要言之,若念不凈想、穢食想、一切世間無有樂想、無常想、無常為苦想、苦為非身想、非身為空想、棄離想、卻淫想、滅盡想、無我想;身死為蟲食想、血流想、膀脹想、青腐想、糜爛腥臭想、發落肉儘想、一切縛解想、骨節分散想、骨變赤白枯黑亦如鳩色想、骨糜為灰想、世間無所歸想、世間無牢固想、世間為別離想、世間闇冥想、世間難忍想、世為費耗不中用想、世為災變可患厭想、一切世間歸泥洹想。

「諸比丘,若以彈指間念此諸想之事,皆為精進行,為奉佛教,不是愚癡食人施也,何況能多行!是故可念行法想。」

佛說是已,皆歡喜受。

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本 聞如是: 一時,佛陀在舍衛城的祇樹給孤獨園(Jetavana Anathapindika-arama)游化。佛陀告訴眾比丘:『諸位比丘!』比丘們接受教誨,恭敬地聽從佛陀的教導。 佛陀說:『諸位比丘!如果在彈指之間,思惟死亡之想,念及一切有身之物終將死亡,這就是精進修行禪定,是符合佛陀教誨的,不是白白地接受信徒的供養。更何況是那些能夠長時間修行的人呢!簡要地說,如果修習不凈觀、穢食觀、一切世間沒有快樂之想、無常觀、無常即是苦之想、苦即是非身之想、非身即是空之想、捨棄觀、去除淫慾之想、滅盡觀、無我觀;觀想身體死後被蟲啃食、血流不止、身體膨脹、青紫腐爛、糜爛腥臭、頭髮脫落肉體消盡、一切束縛解脫、骨骼關節分散、骨頭變成赤白枯黑如同鳩鳥的顏色、骨頭腐爛成灰燼、世間沒有歸宿之想、世間沒有牢固不變之想、世間終將別離之想、世間一片黑暗之想、世間難以忍受之想、世間是耗費無用之想、世間是災難變故令人厭惡之想、一切世間最終歸於涅槃之想。 『諸位比丘,如果在彈指之間念及這些觀想之事,都是精進修行,都是奉行佛陀的教誨,不是白白地接受信徒的供養,更何況是那些能夠長時間修行的人!因此,應當修習念行法想。』 佛陀說完這些話,大家都歡喜地接受。 《禪行法想經》

【English Translation】 English version Thus have I heard: At one time, the Buddha was dwelling in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Park (Jetavana Anathapindika-arama) in Shravasti (Savatthi). The Buddha said, 'O Bhikkhus!' The Bhikkhus, receiving the teaching, listened attentively to the Buddha. The Buddha said, 'O Bhikkhus! If, in the snap of a finger, one contemplates the thought of death, mindful that all embodied beings are subject to death, this is diligent practice of meditation, in accordance with the Buddha's teachings, and not foolishly consuming the alms of the country. How much more so for those who practice extensively! To put it briefly, if one contemplates the impurity of the body, the loathsomeness of food, the absence of joy in all the world, impermanence, impermanence as suffering, suffering as not-self, not-self as emptiness, abandonment, the rejection of lust, cessation, non-self; contemplating the body after death being eaten by worms, blood flowing, bloating, turning blue and decaying, putrefying and stinking, hair falling out and flesh consumed, all bonds released, bones scattered, bones turning red, white, withered, and black, like the color of a dove, bones decaying into ashes, the thought that there is no refuge in the world, the thought that there is no permanence in the world, the thought that the world is subject to separation, the thought that the world is dark, the thought that the world is difficult to endure, the thought that the world is wasteful and useless, the thought that the world is full of calamities and changes, causing aversion, the thought that all the world returns to Nirvana (Nibbana).' 'O Bhikkhus, if in the snap of a finger one contemplates these thoughts, all are diligent practice, all are upholding the Buddha's teachings, and not foolishly consuming the alms of the people, how much more so for those who can practice extensively!
