如是我聞:

一時世尊,在大眾中,結跏趺坐。時諸大眾,恭敬圍繞,瞻仰如來,即于佛前,而說頌曰:

「頂禮佛德海,  真實正遍知,  過去及未來,  敷演緣生法。  世間虛妄見,  顛倒苦沉淪,  煩惱業無邊,  愿佛為宣說。」

爾時眾會,無量百千,若人若天,而白佛言:「今此大眾,及於未來,樂聞深法,唯愿演說。」

爾時世尊告諸大眾:「善哉,善哉!應當諦聽,今為汝說。諸善男子!若欲了達,十二緣生吉祥瑞應,謂從無明乃至老死,輪轉次第,於十二月,各生祥瑞,而乃有異。始十月乃至九月,又從一日乃至十五,試于祥瑞,快樂憂苦,其事非一。

「諸善男子,此十二支,始從寶沙(十)么洗(月):一日無明、二日老死、三日生支、四日有支、五日取支、六日愛支、七日受支、八日觸支、九日六入、十日名色、十一識支、十二行支。

『頂禮佛陀的功德如海一般深廣, 真實而又圓滿地覺悟了一切, 過去以及未來的一切, 都由您來敷演這緣起之法。 世間充滿了虛妄的見解, 人們在顛倒的痛苦中沉淪, 煩惱和業力無邊無際, 愿佛陀為我們宣說解脫之道。』

當時,集會的大眾有無量百千之多,無論是人還是天,都對佛說:『現在這裡的大眾,以及未來的一切眾生,都樂於聽聞這甚深的佛法,唯愿世尊您能為我們演說。』

這時,世尊告訴所有的大眾:『好啊,好啊!你們應當仔細地聽,我現在為你們解說。各位善男子!如果想要了解十二緣起所帶來的吉祥瑞應,也就是從無明(avidya)乃至老死(jaramarana),這輪轉的次第,在十二個月中,每個月都會產生不同的祥瑞,而且各有差異。從十月開始,一直到九月,又從每月的第一天到第十五天,都可以用來驗證這些祥瑞,體驗快樂和憂愁,其中的事情各不相同。

『各位善男子,這十二支,從寶沙(Pausha,十月)么洗(Magha,月)月開始:一日是無明(avidya)、二日是老死(jaramarana)、三日是生(jati)支、四日是有(bhava)支、五日是取(upadana)支、六日是愛(trsna)支、七日是受(vedana)支、八日是觸(sparsha)支、九日是六入(sadayatana)、十日是名色(namarupa)、十一是識(vijnana)支、十二是行(samskara)支。

【English Translation】 English version The Sutra of Auspicious Omens Arising from the Twelve Nidanas, Volume 1

Translated by the Tripitaka Master Shi Hu, Great Master of Spreading the Dharma, Grand Master of Court Service, Acting Vice Minister of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices, by Imperial Decree, from the Western Regions.

Thus have I heard:

At one time, the World Honored One was sitting in the lotus position amidst a great assembly. The assembly respectfully surrounded him, gazing up at the Tathagata, and then recited the following verses before the Buddha:

'We prostrate to the Buddha's ocean of virtues, The truly and perfectly enlightened one, Who expounds the law of dependent origination, Of the past and the future. The world is filled with false views, Sinking in the suffering of delusion, Afflictions and karma are boundless, We pray that the Buddha will explain it for us.'

At that time, the assembly, numbering countless hundreds of thousands, both humans and devas, said to the Buddha: 'This assembly now, and all beings in the future, delight in hearing the profound Dharma. We beseech you to expound it.'

Then the World Honored One said to the assembly: 'Excellent, excellent! You should listen attentively, and I will now explain it to you. Good men! If you wish to understand the auspicious omens arising from the twelve nidanas (twelve links of dependent origination), that is, from ignorance (avidya) to old age and death (jaramarana), the order of this cycle, in each of the twelve months, different auspicious omens arise, each with its own variations. Beginning in the month of Pausha (tenth month) and continuing through the month of Magha (month), and from the first day to the fifteenth day of each month, you can test these auspicious omens, experiencing happiness and sorrow, in various ways.

'Good men, these twelve links, beginning from the month of Pausha (Pausha) and Magha (Magha): the first day is ignorance (avidya), the second day is old age and death (jaramarana), the third day is the link of birth (jati), the fourth day is the link of existence (bhava), the fifth day is the link of grasping (upadana), the sixth day is the link of craving (trsna), the seventh day is the link of feeling (vedana), the eighth day is the link of contact (sparsha), the ninth day is the six sense bases (sadayatana), the tenth day is name and form (namarupa), the eleventh is the link of consciousness (vijnana), and the twelfth is the link of volitional formations (samskara).'

【English Translation】 English version: The day of the vedanā skandha (feeling aggregate), the ninth day of sparśa (contact), the tenth day of ṣaḍāyatana (six sense bases), the eleventh day of nāmarūpa (name and form), the twelfth day of the vijñāna skandha (consciousness aggregate).

'Again, from Phalguna (February): the first day is the vijñāna skandha, the second day is the saṃskāra (volitional formations), the third day is avidyā (ignorance), the fourth day is jarā-maraṇa (old age and death), the fifth day is jāti (birth), the sixth day is bhava (becoming), the seventh day is upādāna (grasping), the eighth day is tṛṣṇā (craving), the ninth day is the vedanā skandha, the tenth day is sparśa, the eleventh day is ṣaḍāyatana, the twelfth day is nāmarūpa.'

'Again, from Jyeṣṭha (May/June): the first day is sparśa, the second day is ṣaḍāyatana, the third day is nāmarūpa, the fourth day is the vijñāna skandha, the fifth day is saṃskāra, the sixth day is avidyā, the seventh day is jarā-maraṇa, the eighth day is jāti, the ninth day is bhava, the tenth day is upādāna, the eleventh day is tṛṣṇā, the twelfth day is the vedanā skandha.'

『每月十三,亦如三日;每月十四,四日同之;十五、五日,準理亦然。』

『Again, from Krittika (Pleiades) (the eighth) month: the branch of birth on the first day, the branch of existence on the second day, the branch of grasping on the third day, the branch of craving on the fourth day, the branch of feeling on the fifth day, the branch of contact on the sixth day, the six sense bases on the seventh day, name and form on the eighth day, the branch of consciousness on the ninth day, the branch of action on the tenth day, ignorance on the eleventh day, old age and death on the twelfth day.』

『Again, from Mrga (deer) Sirsa (head) (the ninth) month: the branch of old age and death on the first day, the branch of birth on the second day, the branch of existence on the third day, the branch of grasping on the fourth day, the branch of craving on the fifth day, the branch of feeling on the sixth day, the branch of contact on the seventh day, the six sense bases on the eighth day, name and form on the ninth day, the branch of consciousness on the tenth day, the branch of action on the eleventh day, ignorance on the twelfth day.』

『The thirteenth of each month is like the third day; the fourteenth of each month is the same as the fourth day; the fifteenth, the fifth day, is also in accordance with the principle.』

Note: 『The branch of existence turns in a forward direction, the accumulated days flow in reverse, the remaining days of the dark and bright months, as explained extensively in the sutra.』

At that time, the World Honored One addressed the assembly: 『If there is anyone』


,於十二支,審諦觀察,憶念不忘,了知憂喜。若無明支,此日生時,于第九日,及第九月、九年有難。若非命盡,快樂有財、眷屬不和、無病多言、壽八十一,卒於行日。

「行日生子,第八日、月,八年有難。若非命終,獲大富貴、兄弟唯二、命長少病、德行知法、朋友眾多、工巧藝能、壽八十八,卒于識日。

「識日生子,第五日、月,五年有難。若非命終,僂儸勇猛、恒乏財寶、見者歡喜、壽六十四,卒于名色。

「名色日生,第六日、月,九年、十年,逢于難事。若非命盡,少病多冤、有子短壽、貧乏恐怖、得后富貴、愛樂惠施、壽年八十,卒於六入。

「六入日生,于第五日,三、四月內,八年、十年,逢于災難。若非壽盡,憎嫉多病、貧乏勇銳、愛味慳貪、壽六十四,觸日而卒。

「觸日生子,第二、五日,三、九月內,九年有難。若非命終,疾患恒時、巧言知法、賊奸我見、有財妒色、壽六十四,卒于受日。

「受日生子,二日、十日,於二、八月,八年有難。若非命終,恒大居尊、富貴勝善、二妻多財、工巧藝能、壽命六十,卒于愛日。

「愛日生子,于第十日,第三、五月,九年有難。若非命盡,豪富第一、子孫眾多、少病多冤、壽六十四,卒于取

『六入日出生的孩子,在第五日,三、四月內,第八年、第十年,會遇到災難。如果不是命中註定要死,則會憎恨嫉妒且多病,貧窮但勇猛,貪愛滋味且吝嗇,壽命六十四歲,在觸日死去。』

『觸日出生的孩子,在第二日、第五日,三、九月內,第九年會有災難。如果不是命中註定要死,則會經常生病,巧言善辯且知曉佛法,狡猾奸詐且我見很深,有錢財但嫉妒美色,壽命六十四歲,死於受日。』

『受日出生的孩子,在第二日、第十日,二、八月,第八年會有災難。如果不是命中註定要死,則會一直身居高位,富貴且善良,有兩位妻子且有很多錢財,擅長工藝技能,壽命六十歲,死於愛日。』

『愛日出生的孩子,在第十日,第三、第五月,第九年會有災難。如果不是命中註定要死,則會非常富有,子孫眾多,少病但多冤屈,壽命六十四歲,死於取日。

【English Translation】 English version Regarding the twelve Nidanas (twelve branches), carefully observe, remember without forgetting, and understand the origins of sorrow and joy. If born on a day of ignorance (Avidya), this child will have difficulties on the ninth day, ninth month, and ninth year. If not destined to die, they will be happy and wealthy, but their family will be disharmonious. Although without illness, they will be talkative, with a lifespan of eighty-one years, dying on a day of action (Samskara).

'A child born on a day of action (Samskara) will have difficulties on the eighth day, eighth month, and eighth year. If not destined to die, they will attain great wealth and nobility, have only two siblings, live a long and healthy life, possess virtue and knowledge of the Dharma, have many friends, be skilled in crafts, and have a lifespan of eighty-eight years, dying on a day of consciousness (Vijnana).'

'A child born on a day of consciousness (Vijnana) will have difficulties on the fifth day, fifth month, and fifth year. If not destined to die, they will be hunchbacked but brave, constantly lack wealth, be pleasing to those who see them, and have a lifespan of sixty-four years, dying on a day of name and form (Nama-rupa).'

'A child born on a day of name and form (Nama-rupa) will encounter difficult matters on the sixth day, sixth month, ninth year, and tenth year. If not destined to die, they will have few illnesses but many grievances, have sons but a short lifespan, be poor and full of fear, attain wealth and nobility in old age, love giving, and have a lifespan of eighty years, dying on a day of the six sense bases (Sadayatana).'

'A child born on a day of the six sense bases (Sadayatana) will encounter calamities on the fifth day, within the third and fourth months, and in the eighth and tenth years. If not destined to die, they will be hateful, jealous, and sickly, poor but brave, fond of flavors and stingy, and have a lifespan of sixty-four years, dying on a day of contact (Sparsa).'

'A child born on a day of contact (Sparsa) will have difficulties on the second and fifth days, within the third and ninth months, and in the ninth year. If not destined to die, they will be constantly ill, eloquent and knowledgeable of the Dharma, cunning and deceitful with strong self-views, wealthy but jealous of beauty, and have a lifespan of sixty-four years, dying on a day of feeling (Vedana).'

'A child born on a day of feeling (Vedana) will have difficulties on the second and tenth days, in the second and eighth months, and in the eighth year. If not destined to die, they will always hold high positions, be wealthy, noble, and virtuous, have two wives and much wealth, be skilled in crafts, and have a lifespan of sixty years, dying on a day of craving (Trsna).'

'A child born on a day of craving (Trsna) will have difficulties on the tenth day, in the third and fifth months, and in the ninth year. If not destined to die, they will be extremely wealthy, have many descendants, have few illnesses but many grievances, and have a lifespan of sixty-four years, dying on a day of grasping (Upadana).

「生於有日,至第九日,二月、八月,九年有難。若非命盡,貪他妻女、寡睡豪族、處長主軍、壽命六十,生支日卒。

「子育生支,于第五日,九月、九年、十年有難。若非命盡,富貴多病、護國崇德、壽年七十,老死日卒。

「老死日生,于第二日,第九月內,九年有難。若非壽盡,愚癡迷亂、貪瞋盜賊、聰慧性利、眷屬和順、冤家眾多、壽六十四、無明支卒,已上比試,祥瑞事訖。」

爾時世尊告諸大眾:「若復有人,無明日病,是夜叉難,應善護持,第五夜差。

「行日得病,于第三日、七日有難,第二夜差。

「識日得病,第五日難,第七夜差。

「名色日病,于第三日、五日有難,即于彼夜,死活不定。

「六入日病,于第三日、四日有難,第十夜差。

「觸日得病,第三日難,第八日起,恒患長命。

「受日得病,第五日難,第九日起,十個月患。

「愛日得病,于第八日、十日有難,第十九日死活不定。

「取日得患,當日有難,第十日卒。

「有日得患,至第三日、

『子育生支(Zi Yu Sheng Zhi,滋養生命支援)日出生的人,在第五日,九月、九年、十年時會有災難。如果不是命該絕,就會富貴但多病、護衛國家崇尚德行,壽命七十歲,在老死日(Lao Si Ri,衰老死亡之日)去世。』

『老死(Lao Si,衰老死亡)日出生的人,在第二日,九月內,九年時會有災難。如果不是壽命已盡,就會愚癡迷亂、貪婪嗔恨盜竊,雖然聰慧但性情乖戾、眷屬和睦但仇家眾多,壽命六十四歲,在無明支(Wu Ming Zhi,無明支援)去世。以上是比試的結果,祥瑞之事結束。』

這時,世尊告訴大眾:『如果有人,在無明日(Wu Ming Ri,無明之日)生病,這是夜叉(Ye Cha,一種惡鬼)作祟的災難,應該好好守護,第五夜就會好轉。』

『在行日(Xing Ri,行動之日)得病,在第三日、第七日會有災難,第二夜就會好轉。』

『在識日(Shi Ri,意識之日)得病,第五日有災難,第七夜就會好轉。』

『在名色日(Ming Se Ri,名色之日)得病,在第三日、第五日會有災難,就在那天晚上,生死未定。』

『在六入日(Liu Ru Ri,六入之日)得病,在第三日、第四日會有災難,第十夜就會好轉。』

『在觸日(Chu Ri,觸覺之日)得病,第三日有災難,從第八日起,會一直患病長命。』

『在受日(Shou Ri,感受之日)得病,第五日有災難,從第九日起,會患病十個月。』

『在愛日(Ai Ri,愛慾之日)得病,在第八日、第十日會有災難,第十九日生死未定。』

'If born on You Ri (Existence Day), by the ninth day, in the second and eighth months, there will be difficulties in the ninth year. If it is not the end of their life, they will be greedy for other's wives and daughters, be fond of sleeping and oppress the common people, serve as officials or command armies, and their lifespan will be sixty years, dying on Sheng Zhi Ri (Life Support Day).'

'If born on Zi Yu Sheng Zhi (Nurturing Life Support) Day, on the fifth day, in the ninth month, and in the ninth and tenth years, there will be difficulties. If it is not the end of their life, they will be wealthy but often sick, protect the country and uphold virtue, and their lifespan will be seventy years, dying on Lao Si Ri (Old Age and Death Day).'

'If born on Lao Si (Old Age and Death) Day, on the second day, within the ninth month, and in the ninth year, there will be difficulties. If it is not the end of their lifespan, they will be foolish and confused, greedy, hateful, and thieving, although intelligent, their nature will be perverse, their family will be harmonious, but they will have many enemies, and their lifespan will be sixty-four years, dying on Wu Ming Zhi (Ignorance Support). The above is the result of the comparison, and the auspicious matters are concluded.'

At that time, the World Honored One told the assembly: 'If someone falls ill on Wu Ming Ri (Ignorance Day), it is a Yaksha (a type of evil spirit) causing trouble, and they should be carefully protected, and they will recover on the fifth night.'

'If one falls ill on Xing Ri (Action Day), there will be difficulties on the third and seventh days, and they will recover on the second night.'

'If one falls ill on Shi Ri (Consciousness Day), there will be difficulties on the fifth day, and they will recover on the seventh night.'

'If one falls ill on Ming Se Ri (Name and Form Day), there will be difficulties on the third and fifth days, and on that night, life and death will be uncertain.'

'If one falls ill on Liu Ru Ri (Six Entrances Day), there will be difficulties on the third and fourth days, and they will recover on the tenth night.'

'If one falls ill on Chu Ri (Contact Day), there will be difficulties on the third day, and from the eighth day onwards, they will suffer from a long-lasting illness.'

爾時世尊告大眾言:「若復有人于出行時,觀十二支應知善惡。無明日行,東去安樂平善速回,南行諍訟獲所求事,西方行時聞不可意,北方得聞順美愛聲。

「行支日出,東去平善得回無滯,南去憂惱安樂得回,西去路獲豐足飲食,北去平善安樂得回。

「識日東行,途路苦辛,南方行時,得回本處,西行諍訟,所獲虛耗,北行獲利,本處得回。

「名色東行,吉祥富貴,南方行時,百事圓滿,西方行時,皆遂所求,北方出行,途路苦辛。

「六入東行,獲于財利,南行吉祥,遂意得回,西方行時,所愿具足,一切成就,北方行時,所求皆得。

「觸日東行,財物散失,南行安樂,西方行時,諍訟驚怖,北方速回,增長財利。

「受日東行,憂惱驚怖,過去得免,南方行時,驚怖諍訟,西方行時,人卒聞信,北方行時,獲利遂意,聞信不悅。

「愛支日行,東方得財,南行利寡,本處速回,西方行時,人卒獲信,北方遂意,自在快樂。

『在『識日』(Shi Ri)向東走,路途辛苦;向南走,能夠回到原來的地方;向西走會有爭訟,得到的也會白白耗費;向北走能獲得利益,並且能夠回到原來的地方。』

'If one falls ill on 'Laosizhi Ri' (老死支日, Day of Old Age and Death Support), there will be danger on the third and seventh days, after which the illness will improve.'

At that time, the World Honored One told the assembly: 'If someone observes the Twelve Nidanas (Shier Zhi, 十二支) when traveling, they should know the good and bad omens. Do not travel in the morning without sunlight. Traveling east brings peace and happiness, and a quick return; traveling south brings disputes but the attainment of what is sought; traveling west brings unpleasant news; traveling north brings pleasant and beautiful sounds.'

'On 'Xingzhi Ri' (行支日, Day of Action Support), traveling east brings peace and a smooth return without hindrance; traveling south brings worry and trouble, but a peaceful return; traveling west brings abundant food and drink on the road; traveling north brings peace and a comfortable return.'

'On 'Shi Ri' (識日, Day of Consciousness), traveling east brings hardship on the road; traveling south allows one to return to their original place; traveling west brings disputes and wasted gains; traveling north brings profit and a return to the original place.'

'On 'Mingse Ri' (名色日, Day of Name and Form), traveling east brings auspiciousness and wealth; traveling south brings fulfillment in all matters; traveling west brings the fulfillment of all desires; traveling north brings hardship on the road.'

'On 'Liuru Ri' (六入日, Day of the Six Entrances), traveling east brings wealth and profit; traveling south brings auspiciousness and a smooth return; traveling west brings the fulfillment of all wishes and the accomplishment of everything; traveling north brings the attainment of all that is sought.'

時諸大眾,復白佛言:「世有盜賊,云何了知?」

爾時世尊,告大眾言:「若欲了知劫盜等事,應當審諦十二有支。諸善男子!若無明日,賊來北方財物散失,舍東來入賊心毒害,彼賊發少住處不遠,至九日內,決定得財。

「行支日盜,相貌赤黃,著衣故舊,彼盜獲罪,若來東方,自雪其事。

「若識支盜,人出自舍,黃赤髮少,外說人聞,財物卻得。

「名色支日,賊二兄弟面形發黑,內一人醜,白頭工巧,至二十一,財寶卻得。

「六入日盜,出於自舍,形色黃赤,妒惡大目,近水路來,藏之舍近住處眷屬,至第二日,得失疑惑,財物不定。

「觸支日盜,出於自舍,形長髮黑,數來歡喜,癡常似哭,若有諍競,財物卻得。

「受支日盜,聚落中來,內有一人,家犬色黑,至二十日,賊決定獲。

這時,世尊告訴大眾說:『如果想要了解劫盜等事,應當仔細審察十二有支。各位善男子!如果沒有明天,賊從北方來,財物散失;從東邊來進入,賊心懷毒害;那賊頭髮稀少,住處不遠,在九天之內,一定能找回財物。』

『行支日發生盜竊,盜賊相貌赤黃,穿著舊衣服,那盜賊會被抓獲,如果從東方來,會自己坦白事情。』

『如果識支日發生盜竊,盜賊是自己家裡的人,黃紅色頭髮稀少,在外說給人聽,財物最終能找回。』

『名色支日發生盜竊,盜賊是兩兄弟,面形和頭髮都是黑色的,其中一人長得醜陋,白頭髮,手藝精巧,到二十一天,財寶最終能找回。』

『六入支日發生盜竊,盜賊出自自己家裡,形色黃赤,嫉妒心強,眼睛大,從靠近水路的地方來,藏在靠近住所的眷屬那裡,到第二天,對失竊之事感到疑惑,財物去向不定。』

'If the Bhavanga (有支) travels east, there will be hardship and fear; if traveling south, you will quickly reach your original place, gain profit, and be satisfied; if traveling west, all matters will increase, and you will quickly reach your original place; if traveling north, you will gain profit and quickly return to your original place.'

'If the birth-Bhavanga (生支) travels east, wealth will be destroyed; if traveling south, it will be satisfactory; if traveling west, you will be able to reach your original place; if traveling north, you will gain wealth.'

'If old age and death-Bhavanga (老死支) travels east, you will quickly return; if traveling south, you will hear loving words; if traveling west, there will be fear; if traveling north, you will be peaceful and happy in your original place, and return safely and smoothly, the journey is complete.'

At that time, the assembly again said to the Buddha: 'There are thieves in the world, how can we know them?'

Then, the World Honored One (世尊) told the assembly: 'If you want to understand matters such as robbery, you should carefully examine the twelve Nidanas (十二有支). Good men! If there is no tomorrow, the thief comes from the north and the property is lost; if coming from the east, the thief's mind is poisonous; that thief has little hair and lives not far away, within nine days, you will definitely recover the property.'

'If the theft occurs on the day of the Karma (行支), the thief's appearance is red and yellow, wearing old clothes, that thief will be caught, if coming from the east, he will confess the matter himself.'

'If the theft occurs on the day of Consciousness (識支), the thief is from one's own household, with sparse yellow-red hair, speaking about it to others, the property will eventually be recovered.'

'If the theft occurs on the day of Name and Form (名色支), the thieves are two brothers with black faces and hair, one of whom is ugly, with white hair and skillful craftsmanship, by the twenty-first day, the treasures will eventually be recovered.'

'If the theft occurs on the day of the Six Entrances (六入支), the thief comes from one's own household, with a yellow-red complexion, jealous and with large eyes, coming from near a waterway, hiding it near the residence of relatives, by the second day, there will be doubts about the loss, and the whereabouts of the property will be uncertain.'

'If the theft occurs on the day of Contact (觸支), the thief comes from one's own household, tall and with black hair, often coming and going, appearing happy, foolish and often seeming to cry, if there is a dispute, the property will eventually be recovered.'

'If the theft occurs on the day of Feeling (受支), the thief comes from the village, one of whom has a black dog at home, by the twentieth day, the thief will definitely be caught.'


愛支日盜,彼人西來,別聚落住,形長見喜,家犬足黑,同人諍競,談論彼人,決定非虛,取支日獲。

佛告大眾:「若復有人,欲知此事,應當審諦十二緣生,了知未來所有憂喜,決定非虛。

「復有男女,于無明支,左目眴時,父母驚怖。

「行支左眴,有喜遂心。

「識支左眴,于所求事,和合稱意。

「若名色支,左目眴動,獲于財物。

「六入支日,左目眴時,父母不悅。

「觸支日眴,必有諍論。

「受支日眴,于所求事,和合遂意。

「于愛支日,左目瞬時,有骨肉來。

「若取支日,左目眴時,所求皆獲。

'There is Aizhi Ri Thief, coming from the east, with cunning words, deceitful and suspicious, (the news) comes from his own relatives.'

'Shengzhi Ri Thief, three people are traveling together, two are outsiders, one is a relative, quickly search for them, and the money and treasures can be recovered.'

'Laosi Zhi Thief, comes from the north, the appearance and head are all decorated, missing teeth, white hair, by the twenty-fifth day, the property can be recovered, the description of the thief is complete.'

At this time, the assembly all said to the Buddha: 'What does it mean when the eyelids of the various branches (zhifen) of the Twelve Nidanas (shier yuanqi) twitch?'

The Buddha told the assembly: 'If someone wants to know this matter, they should carefully examine the Twelve Nidanas (shier yuanqi), understand all the future sorrows and joys, (what is said) is definitely not false.'

'Also, if a man or woman, during the Ignorance branch (wuming zhi), the left eyelid twitches, the parents will be frightened.'

'If the Activity branch (xing zhi) the left eyelid twitches, there will be joy and wishes will be fulfilled.'

'If the Consciousness branch (shi zhi) the left eyelid twitches, the things sought will be harmonious, smooth, and satisfactory.'

'If the Name and Form branch (mingse zhi) the left eyelid twitches, wealth will be obtained.'

'When the Six Entrances branch (liuru zhi) the left eyelid twitches, the parents will be unhappy.'

'If the Contact branch (chu zhi) the eyelid twitches, there will definitely be disputes.'

如果在愛支(trsna-nidana,十二緣起的第八支,指對感受的渴求)這天眼皮跳動,財物會少量散失。

如果在取支(upadana-nidana,十二緣起的第九支,指對渴求的執取)這天,右眼皮跳動,會獲得很多珍寶。

如果在有支(bhava-nidana,十二緣起的第十支,指導致再生的存在狀態)這天,右眼皮跳動,會有爭論導致失財,但求索后又能得到。

如果在生支(jati-nidana,十二緣起的第十一支,指出生)這天,右眼皮跳動,或許會盼望有人來訪,或者求取財物,期望的事情一定會到來。

如果在老死支(jaramarana-nidana,十二緣起的第十二支,指衰老和死亡)這天,右眼皮跳動,會有喜慶的事情,和諧圓滿。 眼皮跳動的占卜已經結束。

這時,眾多的天人和人類,對世尊說:『烏鴉的鳴叫,時間不定,如何才能瞭解?希望佛陀為我們演說。』

這時,世尊告訴大眾:『如果有人,對於十二緣起,仔細觀察,就能瞭解憂愁和喜悅。如果在無明支這天,烏鴉在右邊鳴叫,妻子或女兒會有喜事;烏鴉在左邊鳴叫

【English Translation】 English version They are all fully aware. If, on the day of avidya-nidana (the first link in the twelve links of dependent origination, referring to ignorance of the truth of things), the right eyelid twitches, the parents will be alarmed.

If, on the day of samskara-nidana (the second link in the twelve links of dependent origination, referring to actions arising from ignorance), the right eyelid twitches, all things will be as desired.

If, on the day of vijnana-nidana (the third link in the twelve links of dependent origination, referring to the recognition of the results of actions), the right eyelid twitches, there will be disputes.

If, on the day of namarupa-nidana (the fourth link in the twelve links of dependent origination, referring to the existence of mind and matter), the right eyelid twitches, new clothes will be obtained.

If, on the day of sadayatana-nidana (the fifth link in the twelve links of dependent origination, referring to the entrances of the six senses), the right eyelid twitches, wealth will be broken and scattered.

If, on the day of sparsa-nidana (the sixth link in the twelve links of dependent origination, referring to the contact between the senses and their objects), the right eyelid twitches, wealth will be obtained.

If the eyelid twitches on the day of vedana-nidana (the seventh link in the twelve links of dependent origination, referring to the feelings arising from contact), there will be events of sorrow and weeping.

If the eyelid twitches on the day of trsna-nidana (the eighth link in the twelve links of dependent origination, referring to the thirst for feelings), wealth will be scattered in small amounts.

If, on the day of upadana-nidana (the ninth link in the twelve links of dependent origination, referring to the clinging to thirst), the right eyelid twitches, many treasures will be obtained.

If, on the day of bhava-nidana (the tenth link in the twelve links of dependent origination, referring to the state of existence leading to rebirth), the right eyelid twitches, there will be disputes leading to loss of wealth, but it can be recovered after seeking it.

If, on the day of jati-nidana (the eleventh link in the twelve links of dependent origination, referring to birth), the right eyelid twitches, perhaps one will hope for someone to visit, or seek wealth, and the desired things will surely come.

If, on the day of jaramarana-nidana (the twelfth link in the twelve links of dependent origination, referring to aging and death), the right eyelid twitches, there will be joyous events, and harmony will be achieved. The divination of eyelid twitching is finished.

「於六入支,烏鳴北方,獲路遠事,財寶去遙,必非和合。

『On the day of the saṃskāra (formations) limb, if a bird cries on the right, it is auspicious; if it cries on the left, wealth will be obtained.』

『On the day of the vijñāna (consciousness) limb, if a bird cries on the right, the desired outcome will surely be achieved; if it cries on the left, all desires will not be fulfilled.』

『On the day of the nāmarūpa (name and form) limb, if a bird cries on the right, wealth will be obtained; if it cries on the left, imprisonment.』

『On the day of the ṣaḍāyatana (six sense bases) limb, if a bird cries on the right, there will be fear; if it cries on the left, disputes will arise.』

『On the day of the sparśa (contact) limb, if a bird cries on the right, there will be fear; if it cries on the left, family members will arrive.』

『On the day of the vedanā (feeling) limb, if a bird cries on the right, it will be satisfactory; if it cries on the left, news will be received, and possessions will be scattered and lost.』

『On the day of the tṛṣṇā (craving) limb, if a bird cries on the right, there will be peace and happiness; if it cries on the left, good news will be received.』

『On the day of the upādāna (grasping) limb, if a bird cries on the right, there will be hardship; if it cries on the left, peace and auspiciousness will be obtained.』

『On the day of the bhava (becoming) limb, if a bird cries on the right, someone will inquire; if it cries on the left, there will be peace and auspiciousness.』

『On the day of the jāti (birth) limb, if a bird cries on the right, the desired union will be achieved; if it cries on the left, news will be received, and possessions will be broken and scattered.』

『On the day of the jarā-maraṇa (old age and death) limb, if a bird cries on the right, there will be no misfortune; if it cries on the left, there will be destruction, and a small amount of possessions will be lost.』

At that time, the World-Honored One told the assembly: 『If someone, regarding the avidyā (ignorance) limb, hears a crow cry in the north, they will surely receive a letter.』

『On the day of the saṃskāra (formations) limb, if a crow cries in the north, joyful events will be obtained.』

『On the day of the vijñāna (consciousness) limb, a cry in the north is peaceful and auspicious, harmonious and fulfilling.』

『On the nāmarūpa (name and form) limb, when a cry is heard in the north, pleasant things will be heard.』

『On the ṣaḍāyatana (six sense bases) limb, if a crow cries in the north, news from a distant place will be obtained, treasures will be far away, and there will certainly be no harmony.』

爾時世尊告大眾曰:「若復有人,於十二支,憶念不忘,悉皆了達。若無明支,腭上眴動,大聖者至。

「行支日眴,家長安和。

「識支腭眴,聖者必來。

「名色支眴,多獲財物。

「六入支眴,心起煩惱。

「觸支腭眴,適意慶快。

「受支日眴,有驚怖事。

「愛支日眴,增長家財。

「取支日眴,中一人夭。

「有支日眴,聖者來至。

「生支日眴,盜賊必至。

「老死支眴,家內和合。

「若復有人,觀十二支,了知憂喜。于無明支,心上眴動,諍訟煩惱。

「行支日眴,獲于財物。

「識支心眴,有驚怖事。

「名色心眴,父母歡喜。

「六入支眴,于所求事,和合現前。

「觸支心眴,父母驚怖。

「受支心眴,南行禳之,乃可宜吉。

「愛支心眴,獲大憂惱。

「取支心眴,有惡人至。

「有支心眴,有憂悲事。

「生支心眴,必大怖畏。

爾時大眾復白佛言:「此十二支,有此祥瑞,于日用事,未能了知,復云何行,唯愿宣說。」

這時,大眾再次對佛說:『這十二因緣有這樣的祥瑞徵兆,但是在日常生活中,我們還不能完全瞭解,應該如何運用呢?希望您能為我們宣說。』

這時,世尊告訴大眾:

【English Translation】 English version: The Venerable One asked: 'If the heart and eyelids twitch, how can one understand the meaning?'

At that time, the World Honored One told the assembly: 'If someone can remember and fully understand the twelve nidanas (twelve links of dependent origination, referring to Avidya, Samskara, Vijnana, Nama-rupa, Sadayatana, Sparsa, Vedana, Trsna, Upadana, Bhava, Jati, Jara-marana) without forgetting any of them. If the upper eyelid twitches corresponding to Avidya-nidana (ignorance), it indicates that a great sage will arrive.'

'If the eyelid twitches corresponding to Samskara-nidana (volitional formations), it indicates that the household will be peaceful and harmonious.'

'If the eyelid twitches corresponding to Vijnana-nidana (consciousness), it indicates that a sage will surely come.'

'If the eyelid twitches corresponding to Nama-rupa-nidana (name and form), it indicates that one will obtain much wealth.'

'If the eyelid twitches corresponding to Sadayatana-nidana (the six sense bases), it indicates that afflictions will arise in the mind.'

'If the eyelid twitches corresponding to Sparsa-nidana (contact), it indicates that one will feel comfortable and happy.'

'If the eyelid twitches corresponding to Vedana-nidana (feeling), it indicates that frightening events will occur.'

'If the eyelid twitches corresponding to Trsna-nidana (craving), it indicates that the family's wealth will increase.'

'If the eyelid twitches corresponding to Upadana-nidana (grasping), it indicates that one person in the family will die young.'

'If the upper eyelid twitches corresponding to Vijnana-nidana, it indicates that frightening events will occur.'

'If the upper eyelid twitches corresponding to Bhava-nidana, it indicates that sorrowful events will occur.'

'If the upper eyelid twitches corresponding to Jati-nidana, it indicates that one will experience great fear.'

'If the eyelid twitches corresponding to Jara-marana-nidana, it indicates that an elderly person in the family will surely die.'

At that time, the assembly again said to the Buddha: 'These twelve nidanas have such auspicious signs, but in daily life, we cannot fully understand them. How should we apply them? We hope that you can explain it to us.'

At that time, the World Honored One told the assembly:


言:「若復有人,于無明支及行支日,聚會筵設、修飾田宅、問事見貴、洗頭等吉;澡浴作衣,宜勿用之。

「於行支日,求事聽法、習學弧矢、收伏冤賊、澡浴親貴、皆宜善用;洗頭有患,作衣退敗,慎勿用之。

「于識支日,王受灌頂、伏冤收軍、修營聚落、州府舍宅、成就皆吉,洗髮咽項、造衣宜用;澡浴驚怖,切宜慎之。

「若名色支,諸所作事、及常住事、剃除發爪、財物收藏、皆善宜用;洗頭色變,澡浴驚怖,若作衣時,獲喜速破。

「六入支日,王受灌頂、修治聚落、圓滿成就、他人勿拜、遷動新宅、財物遠離、收護獲罪;若澡浴時,父母驚怖,若洗頭時,名稱無怖。

「于觸支日,作善不成、惡事害人、罪犯速成。于取支日,一切所為、父母驚怖、澡浴作衣、愛人非久,必有血光,作衣未浴,宜勿著之。

「于受支日,所求事喜、交易佈施、修治精舍、吉慶宜用;洗頭驚怖,獲不遂意,若作衣時,所希非難,宜對友人著之前吉。

「于愛支日,資具珍寶、宜收護吉;輕微急速行用大憂,洗頭髮敗,作衣滿足。

「于取支日,小兒剃髮、所為輕事、皆宜用之;師度弟子、剃除髭發、服藥和合、送客嫁娶、吉慶富貴、澡浴獲財、作衣逢喜。

'On the days of the Action Limb (Samskara-anga), seeking affairs, listening to the Dharma, learning archery, subduing enemies and thieves, bathing and being close to dignitaries, all should be used well; washing the hair will cause illness, making clothes will lead to failure, be careful not to use these days.' 'On the days of the Consciousness Limb (Vijnana-anga), the king receiving consecration, subduing enemies and recruiting troops, repairing camps and villages, state and government residences, all achievements are auspicious, washing hair and neck, making clothes are suitable; bathing will cause fright, be very careful.' 'On the days of the Contact Limb (Sparsa-anga), doing good deeds will not succeed, doing evil deeds will harm others, crimes will be quickly completed. 'On the days of the Grasping Limb (Upadana-anga), shaving a child's hair, minor things done, are all suitable to use these days; the teacher guiding disciples, shaving beards and hair, taking medicine to harmonize the body, sending off guests to marry daughters and take wives, will be auspicious and celebrate wealth and nobility, bathing will obtain wealth, making clothes will encounter joyous events.'


于有支日,結識交友、及一切事、諍訟遠離,洗頭勿用,作衣澡浴,皆宜吉慶。

「于生支日,修飾舍宅及鞍馬庫藏、見貴臣主、皆吉宜用;澡浴遠行,亦宜用之,及洗頭喜,作衣非久,宜當日著。

「老死支日,所起惡事、富者財散、作于利益及論義事、遠離諸非、洗頭速獲、飲食多美、澡浴心惱、作衣長久。」

於是眾會白世尊言:「足眴地動,烏吟犬吠,油火鼠傷,善惡未了,愿為演說。」

爾時世尊告大眾言:「若復有人,於十二支,憶念審察,當知善惡。所以者何?于無明支日,足眴有喜。

「於行支日,足眴主事不吉勿用。

「識支名色,此日諍論。

「六入支日,足眴人卒。

「觸、受、愛支,此三足眴,諍論事起。

「于取支日,足眴人卒。

「于有支日,足眴獲衣。

「生支足眴,賊難病怖。

「老死支日,若足眴時,獲悲惱事。

「複次,觀察十二有支,于無明支日,足眴動時,有劫盜至;家犬吠時,人來問遠;衣燒無事;若鼠嚙衣,危難來至;若有烏鳴,家人來問;衣油污時,人卒獲信;若地動時,王恩普降。

「於行支日,足眴動時宜出行吉;若犬吠時,有少王事;若有烏鳴,善信必至;及見血光

這時,世尊告訴大眾說:『如果有人,對於十二有支(dvadasanga-bhava,十二有支),憶念審察,應當知道其中預示的善惡。這是為什麼呢?在無明支日(avidya-anga-divasa,無明有支日),足眴跳動預示著喜事。

在行支日(samskara-anga-divasa,行有支日),足眴跳動預示著做事不吉利,不要使用。

識支(vijnana-anga,識有支)、名色支(nama-rupa-anga,名色有支),這兩天足眴跳動預示著會有爭論。

六入支日(sadayatana-anga-divasa,六入有支日),足眴跳動預示著有人去世。

觸支(sparsha-anga,觸有支)、受支(vedana-anga,受有支)、愛支(trsna-anga,愛有支),這三天足眴跳動,預示著會有爭論發生。

在取支日(upadana-anga-divasa,取有支日),足眴跳動預示著有人去世。

在有支日(bhava-anga-divasa,有有支日),足眴跳動預示著會獲得衣服。

【English Translation】 English version On the bhava-anga-divasa (day of the limb of becoming), making friends, handling all matters, and staying away from disputes are advisable. It is not suitable to wash hair. Making clothes and bathing are all auspicious and suitable.

On the jati-anga-divasa (day of the limb of birth), repairing houses and stables, as well as meeting with noble ministers, are all auspicious and suitable. Bathing and traveling far are also suitable, and washing hair will bring joy. Clothes made will soon be worn and are suitable to be worn on the same day.

On the jaramarana-anga-divasa (day of the limb of old age and death), the things done are mostly bad. Wealthy people will lose their wealth. It is suitable to do things that benefit sentient beings and discuss the Dharma, stay away from all kinds of disputes. Washing hair will quickly bring benefits, food will be plentiful and delicious, bathing will cause mental distress, and clothes made will last a long time.

At this time, the assembly said to the Buddha (the Awakened One): 'Pada-sphurana (foot twitching), earthquakes, crowing of crows, barking of dogs, oil stains, fires, and rats biting things, we do not understand what good or bad these portend. We hope you can explain it to us.'

At this time, the Buddha told the assembly: 'If someone, regarding the dvadasanga-bhava (twelve limbs of existence), remembers and examines them carefully, they should know the good and bad omens within them. Why is this? On the avidya-anga-divasa (day of the limb of ignorance), foot twitching indicates joyful events.

On the samskara-anga-divasa (day of the limb of formations), foot twitching indicates that doing things is inauspicious and should not be used.

Vijnana-anga (limb of consciousness) and nama-rupa-anga (limb of name and form), foot twitching on these days indicates that there will be disputes.

On the sadayatana-anga-divasa (day of the limb of the six sense bases), foot twitching indicates that someone has passed away.

Sparsha-anga (limb of contact), vedana-anga (limb of feeling), and trsna-anga (limb of craving), foot twitching on these three days indicates that disputes will arise.

On the upadana-anga-divasa (day of the limb of grasping), foot twitching indicates that someone has passed away.

On the bhava-anga-divasa (day of the limb of becoming), foot twitching indicates that clothes will be obtained.

On the jati-anga-divasa (day of the limb of birth), foot twitching indicates that there will be disasters from thieves and fear of illness.

On the jaramarana-anga-divasa (day of the limb of old age and death), if foot twitching occurs, it indicates that sad and distressing things will be obtained.

「名色支日,為眷屬吉。

「六入支日,結識事吉。

「若觸支日,宜破冤事。

「于受支日,宜嫁娶事。

「于愛支日,奉王命事行禁非法。

At that time, the World Honored One further told the assembly: 『If someone can remember and not forget these Twelve Nidānas of Dependent Origination, they will surely be able to understand distant sorrows and joys. On the day of Ignorance (referring to the 'Ignorance' branch of the Twelve Nidānas, meaning ignorance), one should protect their wealth.』

『On the day of Action (referring to the 'Action' branch of the Twelve Nidānas, meaning action), one should collect and store wealth.』

『On the day of Consciousness (referring to the 'Consciousness' branch of the Twelve Nidānas, meaning consciousness), one should learn skills and abilities.』

『On the day of Name and Form (referring to the 'Name and Form' branch of the Twelve Nidānas, meaning name and form), it brings good fortune to relatives.』

『On the day of the Six Entrances (referring to the 'Six Entrances' branch of the Twelve Nidānas, meaning the six sense organs), making acquaintances is auspicious.』

『On the day of Contact (referring to the 'Contact' branch of the Twelve Nidānas, meaning contact), one should resolve grievances.』

『On the day of Feeling (referring to the 'Feeling' branch of the Twelve Nidānas, meaning feeling), it is suitable for marriage.』

「於行支日,宜卜問事,出行食飲、思子念友、說法皆吉。

「于識支日,若卜問時,事勿動喜、結識知友、不起煩惱、事說成就、災難息除。

「名色支日,若卜問時,有怖煩惱、事散遍普、骨肉離別。

「六入支日,行卜問時,獲財禮事、及妻室悅、女男分貴。

「于觸支日,卜問有諍,賊怖憂惱、非理患難、眷屬不和。

「于受支日,求卜問事,多獲財寶、飲食衣物、妻室悅意、莊嚴具足。

「于愛支日,求卜問事,心思構畫、虛妄所求、皆非成就。

「于取支日,求卜問事,見者歡喜、稱讚護持、座兼所乘、財獲多喜。

在『行』支日(Xing zhi ri,指十二因緣中的行支),適合占卜事情,出行飲食、思念子女朋友、說法都吉祥。

在『識』支日(Shi zhi ri,指十二因緣中的識支),如果占卜,事情不要變動,結識朋友,不起煩惱,事情說出來能成就,災難平息。

在『名色』支日(Mingse zhi ri,指十二因緣中的名色支),如果占卜,會有恐怖煩惱,事情散亂,骨肉離別。

在『六入』支日(Liuru zhi ri,指十二因緣中的六入支),進行占卜,能獲得財物禮物,以及妻子喜悅,生女兒兒子都尊貴。

在『觸』支日(Chu zhi ri,指十二因緣中的觸支),占卜會有爭執,有盜賊的恐懼憂惱,不合情理的患難,眷屬不和睦。

在『受』支日(Shou zhi ri,指十二因緣中的受支),求占卜事情,多獲得財寶、飲食衣物,妻子喜悅,裝飾品充足。

在『愛』支日(Ai zhi ri,指十二因緣中的愛支),求占卜事情,心思構想,虛妄所求,都不會成就。

在『取』支日(Qu zhi ri,指十二因緣中的取支),求占卜事情,見到的人歡喜,稱讚護持,座位和所乘坐的,財物獲得多而喜悅。

在『有』支日(You zhi ri,指十二因緣中的有支),求占卜事情,會獲得對王法的恐懼,破壞憂惱,骨肉離散。

在『生』支日(Sheng zhi ri,指十二因緣中的生支),求占卜事情,獲得大的財物,一切和諧,圓滿成就,朋友歡喜,珍重稱讚。

在『老死』支日(Laosi zhi ri,指十二因緣中的老死支),求占卜事情,虛妄善惡,破壞星散,沒有精華,事情虛假大憂愁,貪婪嗔恨多次生起。』

這時,世尊說完這些法,告訴大眾:『如果有人,仔細觀察這十二

【English Translation】 English version 『On the day of Old Age and Death』 (Laosi zhi ri, referring to the branch of Old Age and Death in the Twelve Nidānas), it initiates unlawful actions; do not use it for righteous conduct.』

At that time, the assembly said to the World-Honored One: 『These Twelve Nidānas (Shier zhi, referring to the Twelve Nidānas), how should they be applied when divining?』

Then, the World-Honored One told the assembly: 『If someone wishes to divine on the day of the 『Ignorance』 branch (Wuming zhi ri, referring to the branch of Ignorance in the Twelve Nidānas), obtaining wealth and horses will be auspicious, and family members will gather, but it will not last long; do not use it.

On the day of the 『Action』 branch (Xing zhi ri, referring to the branch of Action in the Twelve Nidānas), it is suitable to divine about matters, traveling, eating and drinking, thinking of children and friends, and expounding the Dharma will all be auspicious.

On the day of the 『Consciousness』 branch (Shi zhi ri, referring to the branch of Consciousness in the Twelve Nidānas), if divining, do not move things, make friends, do not arise afflictions, speaking of things will be accomplished, and disasters will be extinguished.

On the day of the 『Name and Form』 branch (Mingse zhi ri, referring to the branch of Name and Form in the Twelve Nidānas), if divining, there will be fear and afflictions, things will be scattered, and family members will be separated.

On the day of the 『Six Entrances』 branch (Liuru zhi ri, referring to the branch of Six Entrances in the Twelve Nidānas), if divining, one will obtain wealth and gifts, and one's wife will be pleased; giving birth to daughters and sons will be honorable.

On the day of the 『Contact』 branch (Chu zhi ri, referring to the branch of Contact in the Twelve Nidānas), divining will bring disputes, fear of thieves, worries and afflictions, unreasonable hardships, and disharmony among family members.

On the day of the 『Sensation』 branch (Shou zhi ri, referring to the branch of Sensation in the Twelve Nidānas), seeking to divine about matters will bring much wealth, food, clothing, one's wife will be pleased, and ornaments will be abundant.

On the day of the 『Craving』 branch (Ai zhi ri, referring to the branch of Craving in the Twelve Nidānas), seeking to divine about matters, thoughts and plans, and false desires will not be accomplished.

On the day of the 『Grasping』 branch (Qu zhi ri, referring to the branch of Grasping in the Twelve Nidānas), seeking to divine about matters, those who see you will be happy, praise and support you, and you will gain seats and vehicles, and much joy from wealth.

On the day of the 『Becoming』 branch (You zhi ri, referring to the branch of Becoming in the Twelve Nidānas), seeking to divine about matters will bring fear of the king's law, destruction, worries, and separation of family members.

On the day of the 『Birth』 branch (Sheng zhi ri, referring to the branch of Birth in the Twelve Nidānas), seeking to divine about matters will bring great wealth, everything will be harmonious, perfectly accomplished, friends will be happy, and you will be valued and praised.

On the day of the 『Old Age and Death』 branch (Laosi zhi ri, referring to the branch of Old Age and Death in the Twelve Nidānas), seeking to divine about matters will bring false good and evil, destruction and scattering, no essence, false matters and great sorrow, and greed and anger will arise frequently.』

Then, the World-Honored One, having spoken this Dharma, told the assembly: 『If someone carefully observes these Twelve


緣生,了達善惡憂喜得失,應畫轉輪圖寫分明;謂從無明,乃至老死,月日分位,次第羅列,鼠牛虎兔龍蛇馬羊猴雞犬豕,十二相狀,本形輪轉,次第為人解說。」

時諸大眾,聞佛所說,踴躍歡喜,信受奉行。

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本:緣起,要了解善惡、憂愁、喜樂、得失的根源,應該繪製轉輪圖,清楚地描繪出來;即從無明(avidyā,指對事物真相的迷惑和無知),乃至老死(jarā-maraṇa,衰老和死亡),按照月日方位,依次排列,用鼠、牛、虎、兔、龍、蛇、馬、羊、猴、雞、犬、豬這十二種生肖的形象,按照本來的形態輪轉,依次為人解說。

當時,所有的大眾,聽聞佛陀所說,都踴躍歡喜,深信並接受奉行。

【English Translation】 English version: Conditioned arising: to fully understand the origins of good and evil, sorrow and joy, gain and loss, one should draw a wheel of transformation, depicting it clearly; that is, from ignorance (avidyā, referring to delusion and ignorance of the true nature of things), up to old age and death (jarā-maraṇa, aging and death), arranging them sequentially according to the positions of months and days, using the twelve zodiacal signs of rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig, rotating in their original forms, explaining them to people in order.

At that time, all the assembly, hearing what the Buddha said, leaped with joy, believing and accepting it to practice accordingly.
