佛告阿難:「有人事佛以後便富貴;有人事佛以後衰喪不利者。」
阿難問佛:「云何俱事佛,衰、利不同?何故得爾?」
佛語阿難:「有人事佛,當求明師;得了了者,從受戒法。為除諸想,與經相應;精進奉行,不失其教。受者不犯,如毛髮者,是人不犯道禁,常為諸天、善神侍衛擁護,所向諧偶,財利百倍,眾人所敬,后當得佛,何況富利!如是人輩事佛,為真佛弟子。
「又復有人事佛,不值明師,亦無經像,又復不禮敬。不知不解,強教人受法戒,無有至信。受戒之後,故復犯眾戒。心意蒙冥、猶豫,不肯讀經、行道、作福,乍信、乍不信。復不能念齋日、燒香、燃燈作禮。故復瞋恚、嚾呼、罵詈,出入咒咀,口初不合,心懷憎嫉,使人殺生。眼見經像,無有禮敬之心。若其有經,趣掛著壁,或擲牀蓆之上,或著故衣被弊筐器中,或以妻子、小兒不凈手弄之;煙燻屋漏,不復瞻視;亦不燒香、燃燈向之作禮,與外經書無異。善神離之,惡鬼得其便,隨逐不置,因衰病之。適得疾病,恐怖猶豫,自念言:『我初事佛,云何故復疾病也?』不能自信,呼

佛陀告訴阿難(Ananda,佛陀的十大弟子之一): '有些人事奉佛以後便變得富貴;有些人事奉佛以後卻衰敗不利。'
阿難問佛: '為什麼同樣是事奉佛,結果卻有衰敗和順利的不同?這是什麼緣故呢?'
佛告訴阿難: '有些人事奉佛,應當尋求有智慧的老師(明師);得到真正明瞭佛法的人,向他學習戒法。爲了去除各種妄想,使自己的言行與佛經相應;精進地奉行佛法,不違背佛的教誨。受戒的人不違犯戒律,哪怕像毛髮一樣細小的過失也不犯,這樣的人不違犯道的禁忌,常有諸天和善神侍衛擁護,所做的事情順利如意,獲得的財富利益百倍增長,受到眾人的尊敬,將來能夠成佛,更何況是富裕和利益呢!這樣的人事奉佛,才是真正的佛弟子。
'還有些人事奉佛,遇不到有智慧的老師,也沒有佛經佛像,又不禮敬佛法。對佛法一知半解,卻勉強教別人受戒,沒有真正的信心。受戒之後,又故意違犯各種戒律。心意昏昧、猶豫不定,不肯讀經、修行、做善事,時而相信,時而不相信。又不能在齋日持齋、燒香、點燈、禮拜。常常發怒、喧譁、謾罵,出入時口出惡語,心中充滿憎恨嫉妒,甚至指使別人殺生。眼睛看到佛經佛像,卻沒有禮敬之心。如果家裡有佛經,就隨便掛在墻上,或者扔在牀蓆上,或者放在破舊的衣物和筐子里,或者讓妻子、小孩用不乾淨的手去玩弄;被煙燻、被屋頂漏雨淋濕,也不再管它;也不燒香、點燈向佛經佛像禮拜,和對待其他的書沒有什麼區別。善神會離開他,惡鬼會趁機作祟,跟隨他,使他衰敗生病。一旦生了病,就感到恐懼和猶豫,心裡想:『我當初事奉佛,為什麼還會生病呢?』不能夠相信自己,呼喊……'
【English Translation】 English version The Buddha Speaks the Sutra of Disrespect (Man Fa Jing)
Translated by the Shramana Dharmaruchi of the Western Jin Dynasty
The Buddha told Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha): 'Some people become wealthy and noble after serving the Buddha; others decline and suffer misfortune after serving the Buddha.'
Ananda asked the Buddha: 'Why is it that those who serve the Buddha have different outcomes of decline and prosperity? What is the reason for this?'
The Buddha told Ananda: 'Some people, when serving the Buddha, should seek a wise teacher (Ming Shi); obtain one who truly understands, and receive the precepts from them. In order to eliminate all delusions, align oneself with the sutras; diligently practice and uphold the teachings without fail. Those who receive the precepts do not violate them, not even the slightest offense like a strand of hair. Such people do not violate the prohibitions of the Path, and are constantly attended and protected by devas and benevolent spirits. Their endeavors are harmonious and successful, their wealth and benefits increase a hundredfold, they are respected by all, and in the future, they will attain Buddhahood, let alone wealth and benefit! Such people who serve the Buddha are true disciples of the Buddha.
'Furthermore, some people serve the Buddha but do not encounter a wise teacher, nor do they have sutras or images, and they also do not pay respects. They have little understanding, yet they force others to receive the precepts, lacking genuine faith. After receiving the precepts, they deliberately violate them. Their minds are clouded, hesitant, and unwilling to read the sutras, practice the Way, or perform meritorious deeds, sometimes believing and sometimes not. They also fail to observe the fast days, burn incense, light lamps, or perform prostrations. They often become angry, clamorous, scold, and curse, uttering evil words, their mouths never closed, harboring hatred and jealousy, even instigating others to kill. When they see sutras or images, they have no respect in their hearts. If they have sutras, they casually hang them on the wall, or throw them on the bed, or place them in old clothes and worn-out baskets, or allow their wives and children to play with them with unclean hands; they are smoked by smoke and leaked on by rain, and they no longer care for them; they also do not burn incense, light lamps, or prostrate to them, treating them no differently from external scriptures. Benevolent spirits leave them, and evil ghosts take advantage of them, following them and causing them to decline and become ill. When they become ill, they are terrified and hesitant, thinking to themselves: 'I initially served the Buddha, why am I still getting sick?' Unable to trust themselves, they cry out...'
使至醫師。醫師卜問、解除、鎮厭無益,遂便禱賽邪神,眾過遂增。妖魅惡鬼,屯守其門,遂便喪衰、死亡,不離門戶。財產衰耗,家室病疾,更相注續,不離牀蓆。命終罪辜,墮泥犁中,當被考治謫罰,無有歲數。是人但坐,不能專一,志意猶豫,無所專據,不信佛法,故得其罪殃,衰耗如是。
「世間人不知佛法者,謂呼事佛令得殃衰,不知其人行自不正,違犯佛經戒。心專行惡,眾態具足,身自招之,無有與者。」
阿難聞之,便頭面著地,為佛作禮,歡喜奉行。

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本: 使人去找醫生。醫生占卜、解除、鎮壓邪祟都無濟於事,於是就祈禱祭祀邪神,各種過錯就更加增多。妖魔鬼怪,聚集在他們的門前,於是就衰敗、死亡,不離開家門。財產衰減耗盡,家人疾病纏身,互相傳染,一直躺在床上。命終之後因罪受罰,墮入泥犁(地獄)之中,應當被拷問懲治,沒有期限。這個人只是因為不能專心一意,意志猶豫不定,沒有專一的信仰,不相信佛法,所以才得到這樣的罪惡報應,衰敗耗損就是這樣造成的。 『世間人不瞭解佛法的人,認為是因為信奉佛才導致災禍衰敗,卻不知道是他們自己的行為不正,違背了佛經戒律。心中只想作惡,各種惡行都做盡,是自己招來的,沒有人會給予他們這些。』 阿難(佛陀的弟子)聽了這些話,就頭面著地,向佛作禮,歡喜地接受並遵行。 《佛說慢法經》
【English Translation】 English version: They send for a physician. The physician's divination, exorcisms, and suppressions are of no avail, so they pray and make offerings to evil spirits, and their various transgressions increase. Demons and evil ghosts gather at their gates, and then decline and death do not leave their households. Their property dwindles, and their family members suffer from illnesses, infecting each other, remaining constantly in bed. After death, they are punished for their sins and fall into Naraka (hell), where they are interrogated and punished without end. This person suffers because they cannot be single-minded, their will is hesitant and uncertain, they have no focused faith, and they do not believe in the Buddha's teachings, thus they receive such sinful retribution, and decline and depletion occur in this way. 『Those in the world who do not understand the Buddha's teachings think that worshipping the Buddha causes misfortune and decline, but they do not realize that their own actions are improper, violating the precepts of the Buddhist scriptures. Their minds are set on doing evil, and they commit all kinds of evil deeds. They bring this upon themselves, and no one gives it to them.』 Ananda (Buddha's disciple), upon hearing this, prostrated himself before the Buddha, rejoicing and vowing to follow these teachings.
