聞如是:
一時佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。佛告諸比丘:「賢者說法時,有五福德。何謂為五?其人所生則得長壽,是為一福德;其人所生即得大富,饒財多寶,是為二福德;其人所生即端正無比,是為三福德;其人所生即名譽遠聞,是為四福德;其人所生即聰明大智,是為五福德。
「何因賢者說法得長壽?用前世說法時,上語亦善,中語亦善,下語亦善,其義備足,歸寂無為,好殺之人聞法,即止不殺,用是故得長壽。
「何因說法之人得大富,饒財多寶?用前世說法時,上、中、下語其義備悉,歸寂無為,盜竊之人聞經,即止不盜,便能施與,用是故得大富。
「何因說法之人得端正無比?用前世說法時,上、中、下語其義備悉,歸寂無為,令聞法者和氣安之,即顏色悅,自生光澤,用是故得端正。
「何因說法之人,得名譽遠聞?用前世說法時,上、中、下語其義備悉,歸寂無為,令聞法者敬佛、敬法、敬比丘僧,用是故得名聞。
「何因說法之人得聰明大智?用前世說法時,上、中、下語其義備悉,歸寂無為,

我聽聞是這樣的:
一時,佛陀在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園(Jetavana Anathapindika-arama)說法。佛陀告訴眾比丘:『賢者說法時,有五種福德。哪五種呢?此人所生之處便能得到長壽,這是第一種福德;此人所生之處便能得到大富,擁有眾多財富珍寶,這是第二種福德;此人所生之處便能得到無比端正的容貌,這是第三種福德;此人所生之處便能得到遠揚的名譽,這是第四種福德;此人所生之處便能得到聰明的大智慧,這是第五種福德。
『什麼原因使得賢者說法能得到長壽呢?因為前世說法時,開始的言語也好,中間的言語也好,結尾的言語也好,都義理完備充足,最終歸於寂靜無為,使喜歡殺戮的人聽聞佛法后,便停止殺戮,因為這個緣故而得到長壽。
『什麼原因使得說法之人能得到大富,擁有眾多財富珍寶呢?因為前世說法時,開始、中間、結尾的言語都義理完備詳盡,最終歸於寂靜無為,使盜竊之人聽聞佛經后,便停止盜竊,並且能夠佈施給予,因為這個緣故而得到大富。
『什麼原因使得說法之人能得到無比端正的容貌呢?因為前世說法時,開始、中間、結尾的言語都義理完備詳盡,最終歸於寂靜無為,使聽聞佛法的人心平氣和,內心安定,容顏喜悅,自然而然地煥發生機光彩,因為這個緣故而得到端正的容貌。
『什麼原因使得說法之人,能得到遠揚的名譽呢?因為前世說法時,開始、中間、結尾的言語都義理完備詳盡,最終歸於寂靜無為,使聽聞佛法的人尊敬佛陀(Buddha)、尊敬佛法(Dharma)、尊敬比丘僧團(Sangha),因為這個緣故而得到名聞。
『什麼原因使得說法之人能得到聰明的大智慧呢?因為前世說法時,開始、中間、結尾的言語都義理完備詳盡,最終歸於寂靜無為,
【English Translation】 English version The Sutra of the Five Blessings of the Wise Spoken by the Buddha
Translated by the Shramana Bai Fazu from Henan during the Western Jin Dynasty
Thus have I heard:
At one time, the Buddha was at the Jetavana Anathapindika-arama in Shravasti (舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園). The Buddha told the Bhikshus (比丘): 'When a wise person preaches the Dharma, there are five blessings. What are the five? The place where this person is born will obtain longevity, this is the first blessing; the place where this person is born will obtain great wealth, abundant riches and treasures, this is the second blessing; the place where this person is born will obtain unparalleled beauty, this is the third blessing; the place where this person is born will obtain far-reaching fame, this is the fourth blessing; the place where this person is born will obtain great intelligence and wisdom, this is the fifth blessing.'
'What is the reason that a wise person obtains longevity by preaching the Dharma? Because in past lives, when preaching the Dharma, the beginning words were good, the middle words were good, and the ending words were good, the meaning was complete and sufficient, ultimately returning to stillness and non-action, causing those who liked to kill to stop killing upon hearing the Dharma, for this reason, they obtain longevity.'
'What is the reason that a person who preaches the Dharma obtains great wealth, abundant riches and treasures? Because in past lives, when preaching the Dharma, the beginning, middle, and ending words were complete and detailed in meaning, ultimately returning to stillness and non-action, causing those who stole to stop stealing upon hearing the Sutras, and to be able to give and donate, for this reason, they obtain great wealth.'
'What is the reason that a person who preaches the Dharma obtains unparalleled beauty? Because in past lives, when preaching the Dharma, the beginning, middle, and ending words were complete and detailed in meaning, ultimately returning to stillness and non-action, causing those who heard the Dharma to be peaceful and calm, their faces joyful, naturally generating radiance and luster, for this reason, they obtain beauty.'
'What is the reason that a person who preaches the Dharma obtains far-reaching fame? Because in past lives, when preaching the Dharma, the beginning, middle, and ending words were complete and detailed in meaning, ultimately returning to stillness and non-action, causing those who heard the Dharma to respect the Buddha (佛陀), respect the Dharma (佛法), and respect the Bhikshu Sangha (比丘僧團), for this reason, they obtain fame.'
'What is the reason that a person who preaches the Dharma obtains great intelligence and wisdom? Because in past lives, when preaching the Dharma, the beginning, middle, and ending words were complete and detailed in meaning, ultimately returning to stillness and non-action,
令聞法者曉了妙慧,用是故得聰明大智。是為五法,說經者得福也。」
諸比丘聞經歡喜,前為佛作禮。
佛說賢者五福德經
【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本: 『使聽聞佛法的人理解微妙的智慧,因此能夠獲得聰明和大智慧。這就是說法者能夠獲得的五種福報。』 眾比丘聽聞佛經后非常歡喜,走到佛前向佛作禮。 佛說《賢者五福德經》。
【English Translation】 English version: 'To enable those who hear the Dharma to understand subtle wisdom, and thereby attain intelligence and great wisdom. These are the five blessings that a speaker of the Dharma can obtain.' The Bhikkhus, having heard the sutra, rejoiced and prostrated themselves before the Buddha. The Buddha spoke the Wise Person's Five Blessings Sutra.
