如是我聞：
一時，佛住王舍城迦蘭陀竹林園精舍。
時，佛告諸比丘：「我當爲汝說時非時經，善思念之！」
諸比丘言：「如是，世尊！當受教聽。」
佛告諸比丘：「是中何者為時？何者為非時？比丘當知。
「冬初分，
「第一十五日，七腳為時，四腳半非時；
「從八月十六日至三十日。
「第二十五日，八腳為時，六腳八指非時；
「從九月一日至十五日。
「第三十五日，九腳為時，七腳六指非時；
「從九月十六日至三十日。
「第四十五日，十腳為時，八腳三指非時；
「從十月一日至十五日。
「第五十五日，十一腳為時，九腳四指非時；
「從十月十六日至三十日。

眾比丘說：『是的，世尊！我們當謹遵教誨。』
佛陀告訴眾比丘：『這裡面什麼是「時」，什麼又是「非時」？比丘應當知曉。

【English Translation】 English version The Buddha Speaks of the Proper Time and Improper Time Sutra
Translated by the Tripiṭaka Master Ruo Yan from India
Thus have I heard:
At one time, the Buddha was staying at the Kalandaka Venuvana (Kalandaka Bamboo Grove Monastery) in Rājagṛha (Royal City).
At that time, the Buddha told the bhikkhus (monks): 'I will speak to you about the Sutra on Proper Time and Improper Time. Think well and remember it!'
The bhikkhus said: 'Yes, World Honored One! We will respectfully listen to your teachings.'
The Buddha told the bhikkhus: 'Among these, what is 'proper time' and what is 'improper time'? Bhikkhus should know.
'The beginning of winter,
'On the fifteenth day, seven feet is 'proper time', and four and a half feet is 'improper time';
'From the sixteenth to the thirtieth day of the eighth month.
'On the twenty-fifth day, eight feet is 'proper time', and six feet and eight fingers is 'improper time';
'From the first to the fifteenth day of the ninth month.
'On the thirty-fifth day, nine feet is 'proper time', and seven feet and six fingers is 'improper time';
'From the sixteenth to the thirtieth day of the ninth month.
'On the forty-fifth day, ten feet is 'proper time', and eight feet and three fingers is 'improper time';
'From the first to the fifteenth day of the tenth month.
'On the fifty-fifth day, eleven feet is 'proper time', and nine feet and four fingers is 'improper time';
'From the sixteenth to the thirtieth day of the tenth month.
'On the sixty-fifth day, twelve feet is 'proper time', and eleven feet and six fingers is 'improper time';

「第八十五日，六腳為時，四腳半非時；
「從八月一日至十五日。
「如是，諸比丘！我已說十二月時非時，為諸聲聞之所應行，憐愍利益故說。我所應作已竟，汝等當行。若樹下空處，露坐思惟。諸比丘！莫為放逸，后致悔恨，是我所教戒。」佛說經竟。
時諸比丘，皆大歡喜，勸助受持。
佛說時非時經
「因緣輕慢故， 命終墮地獄， 因緣修善者， 於此生天上， 緣斯修善業， 離惡得解脫， 不善欲因緣， 身壞入惡道。」
天竺三藏法師若羅嚴，手執梵本，口自宣譯。涼州道人，于闐城中寫訖。
「披褐懷玉， 深智作愚， 外如夷人， 內懷明珠， 千億萬劫， 與道同軀。」

【English Translation】 English version Two and a half 'feet' is the improper time; 『From the sixteenth to the thirtieth of June.』 『On the sixty-fifth day, five 'feet' is the proper time, three 'feet' is the improper time;』 『From the first to the fifteenth of July.』 『On the seventy-fifth day, five and a half 'feet' is the proper time, three and a half 'feet' is the improper time.』 『From the sixteenth to the thirtieth of July.』 『On the eighty-fifth day, six 'feet' is the proper time, four and a half 'feet' is the improper time;』 『From the first to the fifteenth of August.』 『Thus, O bhikkhus (monks)! I have spoken of the proper and improper times for the twelve months, which should be practiced by the sravakas (disciples), spoken out of compassion and for their benefit. What I should do has been done, you should go and practice. You can sit in the open air under trees, contemplating. O bhikkhus (monks)! Do not be negligent, lest you regret it later, this is what I have taught.』 The Buddha finished speaking this sutra. At that time, all the bhikkhus (monks) were very happy, encouraging and helping to uphold it. The Sutra Spoken by the Buddha on Proper and Improper Times 『Due to the cause of contempt, one falls into hell after death; due to the cause of cultivating goodness, one is born in heaven; relying on the karma of cultivating goodness, one is liberated from evil paths; due to the cause of unwholesome desires, one enters evil paths after the body is destroyed.』 The Tripitaka Master from India, Jñānayaśa, held the Sanskrit text in his hand and personally recited and translated it. A Daoist from Liangzhou finished copying it in the city of Khotan. 『Wearing coarse cloth but embracing jade, possessing deep wisdom but acting foolish, outwardly like a barbarian, inwardly cherishing a pearl, through billions of kalpas, being one with the Dao (Truth).』
