元魏天竺三藏佛陀扇多譯

如是我聞:

一時婆伽婆住日月宮中勝藏殿上,與大比丘眾九萬九千億人眾俱,菩薩摩訶薩八萬四千億那由他百千萬人。

爾時,世尊告勝積菩薩言:「汝往北方去此世界六千億恒河沙等諸佛世界,復過百千萬億算數世界之外,有佛世界名曰歡喜。彼中有佛,號曰法上如來、應、正遍知,於今現命現住,為眾生說法。彼佛世尊於今欲說大師子吼方廣法門,汝可往聽。善男子!彼勝法門甚難得聞。」

勝積菩薩即受佛教,如說修行,往彼世界。頂禮法上如來足已,右繞七匝,卻坐一面。

勝積菩薩坐一面已,法上如來知而問曰:「汝善男子從何所來?」勝積菩薩默然不答。

時彼眾中天、龍、夜叉、乾闥婆、阿修羅、迦樓羅、緊那羅、摩睺羅伽、人非人等皆作是念:「有何義故,此勝積菩薩三界大將問已不報,默然而住?」

爾時,世尊目如廣長青蓮華形,師子游戲遍觀十方,知諸大眾有疑念故,即放光明。放光明故,法上如來出金色光遍照十方,無量百千萬種雜色,於是世界六種震動。

一時,婆伽婆(Bhagavan,世尊)住在日月宮中的勝藏殿上,與九萬九千億大比丘眾,以及八萬四千億那由他(nayuta,數量單位)百千萬人菩薩摩訶薩(Bodhisattva-Mahasattva,大菩薩)在一起。

當時,世尊告訴勝積菩薩說:『你前往北方,越過距離此世界六千億恒河沙數般的諸佛世界,再越過百千萬億算數世界之外,有一個佛世界名為歡喜。那裡有一尊佛,名為法上如來(Dharma Uttara Tathagata)、應(Arhat,阿羅漢)、正遍知(Samyaksambuddha,正等覺者),如今仍然存在併爲眾生說法。那位佛世尊現在想要宣說大師子吼方廣法門,你可以前去聽聞。善男子!這種殊勝的法門非常難得聽聞。』

勝積菩薩立即接受佛的教誨,如所說般修行,前往那個世界。頂禮法上如來的雙足后,右繞七圈,然後退到一旁坐下。

勝積菩薩坐在一旁后,法上如來知道情況便問道:『善男子,你從哪裡來?』勝積菩薩沉默不語,沒有回答。

當時,那裡的天、龍、夜叉(yaksha,一種鬼神)、乾闥婆(gandharva,一種天神)、阿修羅(asura,一種惡神)、迦樓羅(garuda,一種大鵬金翅鳥)、緊那羅(kinnara,一種天神)、摩睺羅伽(mahoraga,一種大蟒神)、人非人等都心想:『因為什麼緣故,這位三界大將勝積菩薩被詢問后卻不回答,只是沉默不語呢?』

當時,世尊的眼睛像廣闊而修長的青蓮花,以師子游戲般的姿態遍觀十方,知道大眾心存疑惑,於是放出光明。因為放出光明,法上如來也放出金色光芒遍照十方,呈現出無數百千萬種雜色,於是這個世界發生了六種震動。

【English Translation】 English version The Lion's Roar of the Tathagata Sutra

Translated by Tripitaka Master Buddhasanta of the Yuan Wei Dynasty from India

Thus have I heard:

At one time, the Bhagavan (World-Honored One) was dwelling in the Superior Treasure Hall within the Palace of the Sun and Moon, together with a great assembly of ninety-nine trillion Bhikshus (monks), and eighty-four trillion nayutas (a unit of measurement) of hundreds of thousands of millions of Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas (Great Bodhisattvas).

At that time, the World-Honored One said to Bodhisattva Shengji (Superior Accumulation): 'Go north, passing through six trillion Ganges river sands worth of Buddha-worlds from this world, and then beyond hundreds of thousands of millions of countable worlds, there is a Buddha-world named Joy. In that world, there is a Buddha named Dharma Uttara Tathagata (Thus Come One of the Supreme Dharma), Arhat (Worthy One), Samyaksambuddha (Perfectly Enlightened One), who is currently alive and dwelling there, teaching the Dharma to sentient beings. That World-Honored Buddha now intends to expound the Great Lion's Roar Expansive Dharma Gate; you may go and listen. Good man! That supreme Dharma Gate is very rare to hear.'

Bodhisattva Shengji immediately received the Buddha's teaching, practiced as instructed, and went to that world. After prostrating at the feet of Dharma Uttara Tathagata, he circumambulated him seven times to the right, and then sat down to one side.

After Bodhisattva Shengji sat to one side, Dharma Uttara Tathagata, knowing the situation, asked: 'Good man, where do you come from?' Bodhisattva Shengji remained silent and did not answer.

At that time, the Devas (gods), Nagas (dragons), Yakshas (a type of spirit), Gandharvas (celestial musicians), Asuras (demigods), Garudas (mythical birds), Kinnaras (celestial musicians), Mahoragas (great serpents), humans, non-humans, and others in that assembly all thought: 'For what reason does this great general of the three realms, Bodhisattva Shengji, remain silent and not answer after being questioned?'

At that time, the World-Honored One, whose eyes were like broad and long blue lotus flowers, surveyed the ten directions with the playful demeanor of a lion, and knowing that the assembly had doubts, he emitted light. Because of the emission of light, Dharma Uttara Tathagata also emitted golden light, illuminating the ten directions with countless hundreds of thousands of millions of various colors, and then this world experienced six kinds of tremors.

諸菩薩——集彼世界,現諸色像、種種妙狀——見彼如來所放光明種種事已,集彼國土,皆共頂禮彼如來足。禮佛足已,各隨己分善根功德坐蓮華座。

爾時,會中電焰菩薩即從座起,整服左肩,前至佛所,右膝著地,合掌向佛,歡喜踴躍白言:「世尊!如我今見世尊所放無量光明,我從昔來初未曾見此大光明。善哉,世尊!愿說此事。何故大悲放此光明?愿說其意。」

爾時,電焰菩薩以偈問曰:

「諸無上大士,  非無因無緣,  而放此光明,  愿為我等說。  實說是憐愍,  為利益眾生,  而放大光明,  是何因緣說?」

爾時,電焰菩薩見如來身閻浮檀色,所放無量百千億光猶如金幢自在顯現。見已,即問法上如來而作是言:「世尊!我亦曾見無量光明,初未曾見如是光明諸勝妙事。」

彼佛答言:「如是,電焰!如汝所說。少有地分,彼地分中諸佛如來放如是光,非無因緣現如是相。汝今,電焰!諦聽諦聽,善思念之,我為汝說諸佛如來有所為故放光明事。善男子!汝若聞已,勿生驚疑、勿生怖畏。何以故?諸佛境界不可思議、無量勝愿不可思議、莊嚴之事不可思議。善男子!汝見此事勿生驚疑。電焰當知:勝積菩薩是釋迦佛遣到我所歡喜世界,汝為見不?」

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本 諸位菩薩——聚集在那個世界,顯現各種各樣的形象和美妙的姿態——看到如來所放出的種種光明之後,聚集在那個國土,都一起頂禮如來的雙足。禮拜佛足之後,各自按照自己所修的善根功德,坐在蓮花座上。

這時,法會中的電焰菩薩(Dianyan Bodhisattva)立即從座位上站起來,整理好衣服,袒露左肩,走到佛前,右膝跪地,合掌向佛,歡喜踴躍地說道:『世尊!像我現在所見到的世尊所放出的無量光明,我從過去到現在,從未曾見過如此巨大的光明。太好了,世尊!希望您能解說這件事。因為什麼大慈悲心而放出這種光明?希望您能說出其中的含義。』

這時,電焰菩薩用偈頌問道:

『諸位無上大士,並非沒有原因和緣由,才放出這種光明,希望您能為我們解說。確實是出於憐憫,爲了利益眾生,才放出如此巨大的光明,請問這是什麼因緣所致?』

這時,電焰菩薩看到如來的身體呈現閻浮檀金色(Jambudvipa-gold color),所放出的無量百千億光芒,猶如金色的寶幢一樣自在地顯現。看到之後,立即向法上如來(Dharmottara Tathagata)問道:『世尊!我也曾見過無量光明,但從未曾見過如此光明和各種殊勝美妙的事情。』

那位佛回答說:『是的,電焰!正如你所說。很少有地方,在這些地方中,諸佛如來會放出這樣的光明,並非沒有原因和緣由而顯現這樣的景象。現在,電焰!仔細聽,仔細聽,好好思考,我為你解說諸佛如來因為某種原因而放出光明的事情。善男子!你如果聽了之後,不要產生驚訝和懷疑,不要產生恐懼和害怕。為什麼呢?諸佛的境界不可思議,無量的殊勝願力不可思議,莊嚴的事情不可思議。善男子!你見到這件事不要產生驚訝和懷疑。電焰,你應該知道:勝積菩薩(Shèngjī Bodhisattva)是釋迦佛(Shakyamuni Buddha)派遣到我所居住的歡喜世界(Abhirati),你見到了嗎?』

【English Translation】 English version Those Bodhisattvas—gathered in that world, manifesting various forms and wondrous appearances—having seen the various manifestations of light emitted by the Tathagata, assembled in that land, all together prostrated at the feet of that Tathagata. Having bowed at the Buddha's feet, each sat upon a lotus seat according to their respective share of meritorious roots.

At that time, the Bodhisattva Electric Flame (Dianyan Bodhisattva) immediately arose from his seat in the assembly, arranged his robes, bared his left shoulder, approached the Buddha, knelt on his right knee, joined his palms towards the Buddha, and joyfully said: 'World-Honored One! As I now see the immeasurable light emitted by the World-Honored One, I have never before seen such great light. Excellent, World-Honored One! I wish you would explain this matter. For what reason of great compassion do you emit this light? I wish you would explain its meaning.'

At that time, the Bodhisattva Electric Flame asked in verse:

'The unsurpassed great beings, do not emit this light without cause or condition. I wish you would explain it to us. Truly, it is out of compassion, for the benefit of sentient beings, that you emit such great light. What is the cause and condition for this? Please tell us.'

At that time, the Bodhisattva Electric Flame saw the Tathagata's body the color of Jambudvipa gold (Jambudvipa-gold color), emitting immeasurable hundreds of thousands of millions of rays of light, appearing freely like a golden banner. Having seen this, he immediately asked the Tathagata Dharmottara (Dharmottara Tathagata), saying: 'World-Honored One! I have also seen immeasurable light, but I have never seen such light and such wonderful things.'

That Buddha replied: 'So it is, Electric Flame! As you say. There are few places where the Buddhas and Tathagatas emit such light, and such appearances do not manifest without cause or condition. Now, Electric Flame! Listen carefully, listen carefully, and contemplate well, and I will explain to you the reasons why the Buddhas and Tathagatas emit light. Good man! If you hear this, do not be surprised or doubtful, do not be fearful or afraid. Why? The realm of the Buddhas is inconceivable, immeasurable supreme vows are inconceivable, and the matters of adornment are inconceivable. Good man! Do not be surprised or doubtful when you see this. Electric Flame, you should know: Bodhisattva Supreme Accumulation (Shèngjī Bodhisattva) was sent by Shakyamuni Buddha (Shakyamuni Buddha) to my world of Joy (Abhirati), have you seen him?'


電焰菩薩答彼佛言:「已見。世尊!已見。善逝!」

佛言:「善男子!此勝積菩薩,我向已問言:『善男子!汝從何來?』彼即不答,默然而住。善男子!我見此事,故放光明。善男子!以何義故我問不答?大眾聞已即生驚疑,默然而住。」

佛言:「善男子!此族姓子云何如來問而不答?」

勝積菩薩白佛言:「世尊!云何世尊于未來世諸法性中而問我言:『善男子!汝從何來?』佛所證法是不可說、一切法性皆不可說,我無辯才可能說言從某處來。」

爾時,如來告大眾言:「諸善男子!此善男子略說一切法,示真實道處。是勝積菩薩于無等法中——不可說、不可演,離文字,離上、離下,離來、離去,一切道斷不可見阿那梨耶處,離心、意、意識,離因緣處,無名、無言,不可演、不可說、不可見,離諸眼道,非積聚處、非言說處、非曾有處,離相處、離於一字——所謂字不可演說,云何答我?」

爾時,光音菩薩以佛神力而白佛言:「世尊!若無可說一切諸法而有說者,一切癡人所有言說亦是說法。」

佛言:「善男子!如是所說,非但一切愚癡說法、非愚癡者亦有說法,雖如是說而不覺知。」

爾時,光音菩薩白佛言:「世尊!愿世尊說,云何一切眾

勝積菩薩對佛說:『世尊!世尊您怎麼在未來世諸法自性中問我:『善男子!你從哪裡來?』佛所證悟的法是不可說的,一切法的自性都是不可說的,我沒有辯才可以說從某個地方來。』

這時,如來告訴大眾說:『諸位善男子!這位善男子簡略地說明了一切法,指示了真實之道所在。這位勝積菩薩在無等法中——不可說、不可演說,遠離文字,遠離上下,遠離來去,一切道的斷絕,不可見阿那梨耶(Alaya,阿賴耶識)之處,遠離心、意、意識,遠離因緣之處,無名、無言,不可演說、不可說、不可見,遠離諸眼之道,非積聚之處、非言說之處、非曾有之處,遠離相狀之處、遠離一個字——所謂字是不可演說的,他怎麼回答我呢?』

這時,光音菩薩(Prabhasvara Bodhisattva)以佛的神力對佛說:『世尊!如果無可說的一切諸法而有說者,一切愚癡之人所說的言語也是說法。』

佛說:『善男子!你說的對,不但是一切愚癡之人說法,非愚癡之人也有說法,雖然這樣說卻不覺知。』

這時,光音菩薩對佛說:『世尊!愿世尊說,如何一切眾』

【English Translation】 English version The Bodhisattva Electric Flame (Vidyutprabha Bodhisattva) answered that Buddha, 'I have seen it. World Honored One (Bhagavan)! I have seen it. Well-gone One (Sugata)!'

The Buddha said, 'Good man! This Bodhisattva Sarvasamucchaya (Sarvasamucchaya Bodhisattva), I just asked him, 'Good man! Where do you come from?' But he did not answer, remaining silent. Good man! I saw this, so I emitted light. Good man! For what reason did he not answer my question? The assembly, having heard this, became surprised and doubtful, and remained silent.'

The Buddha said, 'Good man! Why did this son of a good family (kulaputra) not answer the Tathagata's question?'

The Bodhisattva Sarvasamucchaya said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One! How can the World Honored One, in the nature of all dharmas in the future, ask me, 'Good man! Where do you come from?' The Dharma realized by the Buddha is unspeakable, and the nature of all dharmas is unspeakable. I have no eloquence to say that I come from a certain place.'

At that time, the Tathagata told the assembly, 'Good men! This good man briefly explained all dharmas and pointed out the place of the true path. This Bodhisattva Sarvasamucchaya is in the unequaled Dharma—unspeakable, unexplainable, apart from words, apart from above and below, apart from coming and going, the cessation of all paths, the invisible place of Alaya (Alaya), apart from mind, thought, and consciousness, apart from the place of causes and conditions, without name, without words, unexplainable, unspeakable, invisible, apart from the path of all eyes, not a place of accumulation, not a place of speech, not a place of ever having been, apart from the place of characteristics, apart from a single word—the so-called word is unexplainable, how could he answer me?'

At that time, the Bodhisattva Prabhasvara (Prabhasvara Bodhisattva), by the Buddha's spiritual power, said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One! If there are those who speak of all dharmas that are unspeakable, then the words spoken by all foolish people are also Dharma.'

The Buddha said, 'Good man! What you say is true. Not only do all foolish people speak Dharma, but also those who are not foolish speak Dharma, although they speak in this way without realizing it.'

At that time, the Bodhisattva Prabhasvara said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One! May the World Honored One explain how all beings'


生說法而不覺知?」

爾時,世尊告光音菩薩言:「善男子!譬如世間生盲之人,日光所照依日光住,而不能知日輪何相、日光何色。若有餘人語盲人言,日之光明有如是相。而日光明離諸名字,非是眾生所可言說。因緣事故,聞是音聲。

「善男子!譬如世間深山谷中有諸音響,因緣故生。善男子!山谷是空、音響是空,因緣故生。

「善男子!眾生言說悉入辯中,若未說時、未起心時,名為法辯;若已起心、未言說時,名為義辯;若至斥法演說之時,名為辭辯;若以無障無礙說時,名樂說辯。是故,善男子!一切眾生所有言說皆悉不離四法門義而不離實際。如彼生盲以教示時,則知日輪及日光明,舍彼慢心。

「善男子!欲求義者,彼人當於自身中求。善男子!若欲求菩提者,應于自身五陰中求。」

說是真實語義法時,于彼三千大千世界六種震動,有大光明遍照世界,法上如來出廣長舌遍覆三千大千世界。彼光明中復出無量百千萬光,以彼光明照于地獄、餓鬼、畜生,上至有頂,皆悉遍照。

爾時,彼佛還攝光明告大眾言:「諸善男子!終無如是舌相光明而有虛說,汝等應當善信、善念,我說真實。」

爾時,住十地菩薩以為眾首,彼眾一切天、龍、夜叉、乾闥婆

這時,世尊告訴光音菩薩說:『善男子!譬如世間天生的盲人,日光照耀他,他依靠日光而存在,卻不能知道日輪是什麼形狀,日光是什麼顏色。如果有其他人告訴盲人說,日的光明有如此這般的形狀。而日的光明超越一切名字,不是眾生所能用言語表達的。因為因緣的緣故,(盲人)聽到了這種聲音。

『善男子!譬如世間深山峽谷中有各種音響,因為因緣的緣故而產生。善男子!山谷是空曠的,音響也是空曠的,因為因緣的緣故而產生。

『善男子!眾生的言說都包含在四種辯才之中,如果還沒有說話、還沒有起心動念的時候,這叫做法辯(Dharma-pratibhana);如果已經起心動念、但還沒有用言語表達的時候,這叫做義辯(Artha-pratibhana);如果到了闡明佛法、演說佛理的時候,這叫做辭辯(Nirukti-pratibhana);如果能夠無障礙、無滯礙地進行演說的時候,這叫做樂說辯(Pratibhana-pratibhana)。所以,善男子!一切眾生的所有言說,都沒有離開這四法門的意義,也沒有離開實際真理。就像那個天生的盲人,通過別人的教導,就能知道日輪的形狀和日的光明,捨棄他的傲慢之心。

『善男子!想要尋求真義的人,應當在自身中尋求。善男子!如果想要尋求菩提(Bodhi,覺悟)的人,應當在自身的五陰(Skandha,色、受、想、行、識)中尋求。』

當宣說這真實語義的佛法時,在那三千大千世界發生了六種震動,有巨大的光明遍照整個世界,法上如來(Dharmottara-tathagata)伸出廣長的舌頭遍覆三千大千世界。在那光明中又發出無量百千萬的光芒,用這些光明照耀地獄、餓鬼、畜生,上至有頂天,全都普遍照耀。

這時,那位佛陀收回光明,告訴大眾說:『各位善男子!絕不會有如此舌相光明而說虛妄之語的情況,你們應當好好地相信、好好地憶念,我說的是真實之語。』

這時,以住在十地(Dasabhumika,菩薩修行的十個階段)的菩薩為首,以及所有天(Deva,天神)、龍(Naga,龍族)、夜叉(Yaksa,夜叉)、乾闥婆(Gandharva,香音神)等。

【English Translation】 English version: 'Generating speech without awareness?'

At that time, the World-Honored One said to Bodhisattva Light Sound: 'Good man! It is like a person born blind in the world, who relies on sunlight and dwells in sunlight, but cannot know the shape of the sun's disc or the color of sunlight. If someone tells the blind person that the light of the sun has such and such a form, the light of the sun transcends all names and cannot be expressed by sentient beings. Because of conditions, (the blind person) hears this sound.'

'Good man! It is like various sounds in deep mountain valleys in the world, which arise because of conditions. Good man! The mountain valley is empty, and the sounds are also empty, arising because of conditions.'

'Good man! All the speech of sentient beings is contained within the four kinds of eloquence. If one has not yet spoken or has not yet arisen in thought, this is called Dharma-pratibhana (eloquence regarding the Dharma). If one has already arisen in thought but has not yet expressed it in words, this is called Artha-pratibhana (eloquence regarding the meaning). If one has reached the point of clarifying the Dharma and expounding its principles, this is called Nirukti-pratibhana (eloquence regarding the terms). If one can expound without obstruction or hindrance, this is called Pratibhana-pratibhana (eloquence of ready wit). Therefore, good man! All the speech of all sentient beings does not depart from the meaning of these four Dharma gates, nor does it depart from actual truth. Just like that person born blind, through the teaching of others, can know the shape of the sun's disc and the light of the sun, abandoning his arrogance.'

'Good man! One who seeks true meaning should seek it within oneself. Good man! If one wishes to seek Bodhi (Enlightenment), one should seek it within one's own five Skandhas (aggregates of form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness).'

When this Dharma of true meaning was proclaimed, the three thousand great thousand worlds shook in six ways, and a great light illuminated the entire world. Dharmottara-tathagata (Thus Come One Whose Dharma is Supreme) extended his broad and long tongue to cover the three thousand great thousand worlds. From that light, countless hundreds of thousands of lights emanated, illuminating hells, hungry ghosts, animals, and up to the highest heaven, all were universally illuminated.

At that time, that Buddha retracted his light and told the assembly: 'Good men! There will never be such a tongue mark of light speaking falsely. You should believe well and remember well that what I say is true.'

At that time, with the Bodhisattvas abiding in the Dasabhumika (Ten Stages of a Bodhisattva's Path) as the leaders, and all the Devas (gods), Nagas (dragons), Yaksas (demons), Gandharvas (celestial musicians), and so on.


、阿修羅、迦樓羅、緊那羅、摩睺羅伽、人非人等從座而起,合掌同聲作如是言:「愿世尊說、愿善逝說如實法義,我等大眾以佛神力是故終無疑惑之心。」

爾時,世尊告大眾言:「諸善男子!此乃是大師子吼,我今欲說,安樂利益諸眾生故、乃至天人。善男子!娑婆世界彼有世尊,號曰釋迦牟尼如來、應、正遍知,於今現在現命現住,為眾說法。善男子!今我身是。法上如來為利眾生,是故於彼娑婆世界示種種相而為說法。」

爾時,大眾聞是說已,甚大歡喜,踴躍無量,嘆如來言:「善哉,善哉。世尊!愿一切眾生皆作如是大師子吼,如今世尊在此眾中大師子吼。世尊!若有聞此師子吼者,彼諸眾生不得名為種少善根。若復有人得聞如來大師子吼,聞已信受,何況復有讀誦、受持、為他廣說、供養此經——香花、涂香、末香、燒香、種種衣服、寶幢、寶蓋?世尊當知:是諸眾生是佛所加。若有聞此大師子吼修多羅句一經于耳者,彼諸眾生非種微小善根功德。」

爾時,世尊贊彼菩薩作如是言:「善哉,善哉。善男子!如汝所說:彼諸眾生非種微少善根功德而得聞此。若能聞此如來所說大師子吼修多羅句,生歡喜心,乃至微言唱一善哉,善男子!是我所護及是彌勒菩薩所護,彼悉以肩持我菩提

這時,世尊告訴大眾說:『各位善男子!這乃是大師子吼,我現在要宣說,爲了安樂利益一切眾生、乃至天人。善男子!娑婆世界(Saha World,我們所居住的這個世界)有位世尊,名為釋迦牟尼如來(Sakyamuni Tathagata)、應供(Arhat)、正遍知(Samyaksambuddha),如今現在顯現生命、安住世間,為眾生說法。善男子!現在的我就是法上如來(Dharmottara Tathagata),爲了利益眾生,所以在那個娑婆世界示現種種形象而為說法。』

這時,大眾聽了這些話后,非常歡喜,踴躍無量,讚歎如來說:『太好了,太好了。世尊!愿一切眾生都能發出這樣的大獅子吼,就像現在世尊在此大眾中發出大師子吼一樣。世尊!如果有人聽聞到這獅子吼,這些眾生就不能說是種了很少的善根。如果有人能夠聽聞如來的大師子吼,聽聞后信受奉行,更何況是讀誦、受持、為他人廣泛宣說、供養這部經——用香花、涂香、末香、燒香、各種衣服、寶幢、寶蓋來供養呢?世尊應當知道:這些眾生是佛所加持的。如果有人聽聞到這部大師子吼修多羅(Mahasihanada Sutra)中的一句經文,一經于耳,這些眾生就不是種了微小的善根功德。』

這時,世尊讚歎那位菩薩說:『太好了,太好了。善男子!正如你所說:這些眾生不是種了微少的善根功德才能聽聞到這部經。如果能夠聽聞到這部如來所說的大師子吼修多羅,生起歡喜心,乃至輕微地說一句「善哉」,善男子!這是我所護佑的,也是彌勒菩薩(Maitreya Bodhisattva)所護佑的,他們都將用肩膀擔負起我的菩提(Bodhi,覺悟)。』

【English Translation】 Asuras (Asura, demigods or titans), Garudas (Garuda, mythical bird-like beings), Kinnaras (Kinnara, mythical beings with human heads and bird bodies), Mahoragas (Mahoraga, great serpent deities), and beings both human and non-human, rose from their seats, joined their palms, and said in unison: 'May the World-Honored One speak, may the Well-Gone One speak the true and real Dharma, we, the great assembly, rely on the Buddha's divine power, therefore we have no doubt in our minds.'

At that time, the World-Honored One told the assembly: 'Good men! This is the Great Lion's Roar. I now wish to speak, for the sake of peace and benefit for all beings, even gods and humans. Good men! In the Saha World (Saha World, the world we live in), there is a World-Honored One, named Sakyamuni Tathagata (Sakyamuni Tathagata), Worthy One (Arhat), Perfectly Enlightened One (Samyaksambuddha), who is now present, alive, and dwelling, teaching the Dharma. Good men! I am now Dharmottara Tathagata (Dharmottara Tathagata). For the benefit of beings, I manifest various forms in that Saha World and teach the Dharma.'

At that time, the assembly, having heard these words, rejoiced greatly, danced with immeasurable joy, and praised the Tathagata, saying: 'Excellent, excellent! World-Honored One! May all beings make such a Great Lion's Roar, just as the World-Honored One is now making a Great Lion's Roar in this assembly. World-Honored One! If anyone hears this Lion's Roar, those beings cannot be said to have planted few roots of goodness. If someone can hear the Tathagata's Great Lion's Roar, and after hearing it, believes and accepts it, how much more so if they read, recite, uphold, widely explain it to others, and make offerings to this sutra—with fragrant flowers, scented oils, powdered incense, burning incense, various garments, jeweled banners, and jeweled canopies? World-Honored One, know that these beings are blessed by the Buddha. If anyone hears even one verse of this Great Lion's Roar Sutra (Mahasihanada Sutra), even if it only passes through their ear, those beings have not planted small roots of goodness and merit.'

At that time, the World-Honored One praised that Bodhisattva, saying: 'Excellent, excellent! Good man! As you have said, these beings have not planted few roots of goodness and merit to be able to hear this. If they can hear this Great Lion's Roar Sutra spoken by the Tathagata, and generate joy, even if they only utter a single 'Excellent!', good man! I protect them, and Maitreya Bodhisattva (Maitreya Bodhisattva) protects them, and they will all bear my Bodhi (Bodhi, enlightenment) on their shoulders.'


。若於五濁惡世之中而能信受此修多羅,是我過去已曾化者、亦阿逸多菩薩所護,彼人已竭生死大海、已降魔眾除滅煩惱、已震法雷、已擊法鼓、已離女身、已降諸怨、已能滅除諸煩惱眾。

「善男子!若有善男子、善女人,滿十阿僧祇三千大千世界諸佛如來,一切所有供養之具而供養之;若復有聞此真實義修多羅句能信受者、以信心故唱言善哉,得福過前供養三千大千世界諸佛如來。以是義故,諸善男子!汝等若有信我語者,應當書寫、受持此經。善男子!隨何方處書寫供養此經典者,當知其家則有如來。」

爾時,勝積菩薩、電焰菩薩、光常菩薩、凈眼菩薩、無畏菩薩、觀世自在菩薩、得大勢菩薩、文殊師利菩薩、辯積菩薩、蓋一切障菩薩、作光明菩薩、及普賢菩薩,如是等八萬四千億百千菩薩白佛言:「世尊!我等於未來世當廣宣說此法門句。世尊!有諸眾生聞此經者,是人亦名得涅槃者。世尊!若有能信此修多羅,彼諸眾生非是始種微少善根。世尊!若聞此經一經于耳,何況具足、讀誦、受持,彼諸眾生所得功德,百千億劫說不可盡。」

爾時,世尊告諸菩薩摩訶薩言:「善哉,善哉。諸善男子!汝等應當如是護持如來正法。」

佛說此法門時,勝積菩薩及彼大眾皆大歡喜。

If, in the evil world of the five turbidities (referring to an era filled with various impurities and sufferings), someone can believe and accept this Sutra (Buddhist scripture), then that person is someone I have transformed in the past and is also protected by Ajita Bodhisattva (another name for Maitreya Bodhisattva). That person has already crossed the sea of birth and death, has already subdued the hordes of demons, eliminated afflictions, has already thundered the Dharma, has already beaten the Dharma drum, has already left the female body, has already subdued all grievances, and has already been able to extinguish all afflictions.' 'Good man! If there are good men and good women who use all the offerings of all the Buddhas and Tathagatas (title of a Buddha) in ten Asamkhya (extremely large numerical unit) three-thousand-great-thousand worlds (Buddhist cosmology, referring to a very large world) to make offerings to them; if someone also hears the words of this Sutra (Buddhist scripture) of true meaning and can believe and accept it, praising 'Sadhu' (well done) because of faith, then the merit they obtain exceeds the merit of offering to all the Buddhas and Tathagatas in the three-thousand-great-thousand worlds. For this reason, good men! If any of you believe my words, you should write, receive, and uphold this scripture. Good men! Wherever this scripture is written and offered, you should know that the Tathagata (Buddha) exists in that family.' At that time, Shengji Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva's name), Dianyan Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva's name), Guangchang Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva's name), Jingyan Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva's name), Wuwei Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva's name), Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva (another name for Guanyin Bodhisattva), Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva's name), Manjushri Bodhisattva (another name for Manjushri Bodhisattva), Bianji Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva's name), Gaiyiqiezhang Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva's name), Zuoguangming Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva's name), and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva (Bodhisattva's name), these eighty-four trillion hundred thousand Bodhisattvas said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One! We will widely proclaim the words of this Dharma gate in the future. World Honored One! If there are sentient beings who hear this scripture, that person is also called one who has attained Nirvana (the highest state in Buddhism). World Honored One! If someone can believe this Sutra (Buddhist scripture), these sentient beings have not merely planted small roots of goodness. World Honored One! If hearing this scripture once passes through the ear, how much more so if they fully read, recite, receive, and uphold it, the merit obtained by these sentient beings cannot be exhausted even in hundreds of thousands of trillions of kalpas (eons).' At that time, the World Honored One told the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas (great Bodhisattvas): 'Good, good. Good men! You should protect the Dharma of the Tathagata (Buddha) in this way.' When the Buddha spoke this Dharma gate, Shengji Bodhisattva and their assembly were all very happy.
