如是我聞。一時世尊住一切如來三昧界中。一切菩薩摩訶薩眾皆悉圓滿。是時世尊大毗盧遮那如來。從諸佛智三摩地起。普遍觀察一切大眾。當彼如是觀眾會時。所有一切如來並諸菩薩摩訶薩眾。悉於世尊大毗盧遮那如來左月曼拏羅中依止而住。
爾時金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。住於世尊大毗盧遮那如來前。合掌諦誠作是白言。世尊秘密法儀甚深廣大。云何此中要略而修。於是要略法中我當受行。
爾時世尊大毗盧遮那如來。贊金剛手菩薩摩訶薩言。善哉善哉金剛手。汝今善問秘密法儀甚深廣大。我今為汝要略而說。謂若修習瑜伽行者。凡入舍中先當觀想秘密文字。作已護凈。謂于舌端想有阿字。其字想成凈妙月輪。于月輪上想有吽字。其字覆成五股白色大金剛杵。如是觀想已。行人當作金剛合掌安自頂上。誦此大明而作護凈。
大明曰。
唵(引)娑嚩(二合引)婆嚩秫馱(引)薩哩嚩(二合)達哩摩(二合引一句)莎婆(引)嚩秫度(引)㰠(呼郎切下同二)
誦是大明已。行人次當發誓愿

爾時,金剛手菩薩摩訶薩(Vajrapāṇi bodhisattva-mahāsattva,手持金剛杵的菩薩)住於世尊大毗盧遮那如來前,合掌至誠地說道:『世尊,秘密法儀甚深廣大,如何才能在此中簡要地修習?我應當如何受持奉行這簡要之法?』
爾時,世尊大毗盧遮那如來讚歎金剛手菩薩摩訶薩說:『善哉!善哉!金剛手。你現在問得很好,秘密法儀甚深廣大,我現在為你簡要地說說。如果修習瑜伽(yoga,相應)的行者,凡是進入住所,首先應當觀想秘密文字,作完之後進行護凈。也就是在舌端觀想有『阿』字,這個字觀想成為清凈美妙的月輪。在月輪上觀想有『吽』字,這個字又變成五股白色的大金剛杵(vajra,金剛)。這樣觀想完畢后,修行人應當作金剛合掌,安放在自己的頭頂上,誦此大明咒(mahāvidyā,偉大的明咒)而作護凈。』
大明咒曰:
唵(引) 娑嚩(二合引) 婆嚩秫馱(引) 薩哩嚩(二合) 達哩摩(二合引一句) 莎婆(引) 嚩秫度(引) 㰠(呼郎切下同二)
誦完這個大明咒后,修行人接下來應當發誓愿。
【English Translation】 English version The Secret-Appearance Sutra Spoken by the Buddha, Volume 1
Translated by the Tripitaka Master Shi Hu, a Shramana (Buddhist monk) bestowed with the title 'Great Master of Dharma Transmission,' holding the rank of 'Chao Feng Da Fu' and 'Shi Guang Lu Qing,' serving the Western Heaven Translation Bureau, under Imperial Decree.
Thus have I heard. At one time, the World Honored One dwelt in the Samadhi Realm of all Tathagatas (Tathāgata, Thus Come One). All the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas (bodhisattva-mahāsattva, great bodhisattvas) were complete and perfect. At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata (Vairocana, the Illuminator), arose from the Samadhi (samādhi, meditative absorption) of the wisdom of all Buddhas and universally observed the entire assembly. As he thus observed the assembly, all the Tathagatas and Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas dwelt, relying on the lunar Mandala (maṇḍala, sacred diagram) to the left of the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata.
Then, Vajrapani Bodhisattva-Mahasattva (Vajrapāṇi bodhisattva-mahāsattva, the bodhisattva holding the vajra) stood before the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata, and, with palms joined, sincerely said: 'World Honored One, the secret Dharma rituals are profoundly vast. How can one cultivate them concisely within this? How should I receive and practice this concise Dharma?'
At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata, praised Vajrapani Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, saying: 'Excellent! Excellent, Vajrapani! You have asked well about the secret Dharma rituals, which are profoundly vast. I will now speak concisely for you. If a practitioner of Yoga (yoga, union) enters a dwelling, they should first visualize the secret syllables and, having done so, perform purification. That is, on the tip of the tongue, visualize the syllable 'Ah,' which transforms into a pure and wondrous lunar disc. On the lunar disc, visualize the syllable 'Hum,' which then becomes a five-pronged white great Vajra (vajra, diamond scepter). Having visualized thus, the practitioner should perform the Vajra hand seal, placing it on the crown of their head, and recite this Great Mantra (mahāvidyā, great knowledge mantra) for purification.'
The Great Mantra says:
Om Svabhava Shuddhah Sarva Dharma Svabhava Shuddho Ham
Having recited this Great Mantra, the practitioner should then make a vow.
言。唯愿十方一切諸佛一切菩薩攝受於我。而我某甲於此時中作成就事。始從今日發起無上大菩提心。乃至當坐菩提道場堅固不退。又說頌曰。
愿我即同三世佛 決定當成正覺尊 攝善法及攝律儀 饒益眾生戒具足 而此三聚凈妙戒 愿我受持悉堅固 諸佛妙法及僧伽 最勝三寶垂加護 最初三寶攝受我 愿從諸佛相應生 金剛杵及彼印鈴 我所受持悉真實 彼阿阇梨攝受我 廣大最上金剛部 四種施法我常行 日日六時如是作 彼大寶部相應法 三昧中起勝意樂 我攝受諸正法門 內外及彼三乘法 大蓮華部中清凈 出生無上大菩提 一切誓願悉相應 真實法中攝受我 供養事業隨應作 大羯磨部中最上 發起無上菩提心 及彼出生諸勝行 普攝一切行周遍 廣為利樂諸眾生 未得度者我當度 未解脫者令解脫 諸有未獲安隱者 我當爲開安隱門 所有一切諸眾生 普使安住涅槃地
爾時世尊大毗盧遮那如來。復為金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。宣說普盡三摩地真實出生諸三摩地根本法門。行人應當結禪定印。依法安住已。當觀諸法無我平等。若於諸法見有內外。是即於心有其蓋障。當知離心無別有法。又複意中作是思念。一切法不生

【English Translation】 English version: Say: 'May all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions embrace and protect me.' I, so-and-so, at this time, am undertaking the accomplishment of this task. Starting from today, I generate the unsurpassed Bodhicitta (the mind of enlightenment), and until I sit at the Bodhi tree (the place of enlightenment), this mind will be firm and unretreating. And recite the following verse: 'May I be like the Buddhas of the three times, determined to become a Perfectly Enlightened One, embracing good dharmas and ethical conduct, benefiting all beings with complete precepts. May I uphold and firmly maintain these three pure and wondrous sets of precepts. May the wondrous Dharma of the Buddhas and the Sangha (community), the supreme Three Jewels, bestow their protection. May the primordial Three Jewels embrace me, and may I be born in accordance with the Buddhas. The vajra (a ritual object) and the mudra (hand gesture) bell, all that I uphold is true. May that ācārya (teacher) embrace me, the vast and supreme Vajra family. I constantly practice the four kinds of giving, doing so six times daily. May the corresponding Dharma of the great Ratna family, arise with supreme joy in samādhi (meditative absorption). I embrace all the correct Dharma gates, internal, external, and the three vehicles. In the pure great Lotus family, may unsurpassed Bodhi (enlightenment) be born. May all vows be in accordance, and may I be embraced in the true Dharma. May the offering activities be performed accordingly, supreme in the great Karma (action) family. Generating the unsurpassed Bodhicitta, and the arising of all excellent practices, universally embracing all practices completely, extensively for the benefit and happiness of all beings. Those who have not been delivered, I shall deliver; those who have not been liberated, I shall liberate; those who have not obtained peace, I shall open the door to peace for them. May all beings universally abide in the state of nirvāṇa (liberation).' At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata (the Illuminating One), again for Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva (the one who holds the vajra), proclaimed the fundamental Dharma gates of the true arising of all samādhis (meditative absorptions) that exhaustively encompass all samādhis. The practitioner should form the meditation mudra (hand gesture), and after abiding according to the Dharma, should contemplate that all dharmas are without self and equal. If one sees an inside and outside in all dharmas, then there is a covering and obstruction on the mind. One should know that apart from the mind, there is no separate Dharma. And again, in the mind, make this thought: all dharmas do not arise.
而自性明亮。是即一切法本來不生性。隨其所念即住是心。然後乃以自性明亮可愛音聲。誦彼開覺本心大明章句。當誦唸時應觀心月曼拏羅相。
大明曰。
唵(引)唧多缽羅(二合)底吠(引)鄧羯嚕(引)彌(一句)
複次頌曰。
真實圓滿大清凈 其猶虛空無垢翳 一切粗重悉蠲除 而復破遣邪分別 彼諸煩惱垢凈故 復如朗月見初生 諸佛功德聚無邊 悉入阿字等妙相
其相云何。
所謂。
阿阿(引)壹翳嗢污哩黎(引)哩黎(引)伊愛鄔奧暗惡
爾時金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。復於世尊大毗盧遮那如來菩提心月曼拏羅中。依止而住作是白言。世尊菩提心月曼拏羅者。而有何等最勝功德。
爾時世尊大毗盧遮那如來。即為金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。要略宣說菩提心月曼拏羅相。金剛手當知諸佛無邊功德。入阿字等諸妙相時。如水精月凈光明相。入已。復從自性清凈明亮智心。出生變化作用事業。即誦大明微妙章句發菩提心大明曰。
唵(引)冒提唧當(一句)母怛波(二合引)捺夜(引)彌(二)
複次頌曰。
隨此出生大悲心 普攝眾生諸所作 一切善法悉周圓 一切煩惱皆不著 月曼拏羅左右中 菩提心月為第二

【English Translation】 English version: And the self-nature is bright and clear. This is the originally unarisen nature of all dharmas. According to your thoughts, the mind abides in this. Then, with a self-natured, bright, and lovely voice, recite the great luminous verses that awaken the original mind. When reciting, one should visualize the image of the heart-moon Mandala.
The Great Luminous Mantra says:
Om(seed syllable) citta prati vedam karomi (one sentence)
Again, the verse says:
Truly complete and greatly pure, like the empty sky without dust or obstruction. All coarse and heavy things are removed, and wrong discriminations are destroyed. Because those afflictions and impurities are purified, it is like a bright moon newly risen. The boundless accumulation of the Buddhas' merits all enter into the subtle forms such as the 'A' syllable.
What is that form like?
It is:
A Ā Ī Ī Ū Ū Ṛ Ṝ Ḷ Ḹ E AI O AU Aṃ Aḥ
At that time, Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva, relying on and abiding in the Bodhi-citta-mandala (Mandala of the Mind of Enlightenment) of the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata, said: 'World Honored One, what are the most supreme merits of the Bodhi-citta-mandala (Mandala of the Mind of Enlightenment)?'
At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata, briefly explained the form of the Bodhi-citta-mandala (Mandala of the Mind of Enlightenment) to Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Vajrapani, you should know that when the boundless merits of all Buddhas enter into the subtle forms such as the 'A' syllable, it is like the moon in crystal, with a pure and bright light. After entering, from the self-natured, pure, bright, and wise mind, the functions and activities of transformation are born. Then, recite the great luminous and subtle verses to generate the Bodhi-citta (mind of enlightenment). The Great Luminous Mantra says:
Om bodhi cittam utpadayami (two sentences)
Again, the verse says:
Following this birth is a great compassionate heart, universally embracing all beings and all their actions. All good dharmas are completely perfect, and one is not attached to any afflictions. In the left, right, and center of the Moon Mandala, the Bodhi-citta-moon is the second most important.
所有諸佛功德門 復入迦字等妙相
如是入已。乃與諸法影像相應。其相云何。
所謂。
迦佉誐伽昂(鼻音輕呼)左蹉惹(仁左切)酂(重呼)倪(倪也切輕呼)叱姹拏(尼轄切)茶(重呼)拏(平聲輕呼)多他捺陀(重呼)那(輕呼)波頗末婆(重呼)摩(輕呼)邪啰羅嚩設沙薩訶乞叉(合呼)
此等文字。即是菩提心月曼拏羅相。此曼拏羅所有法用行相次第如余教說。
爾時金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。復於世尊大毗盧遮那如來右月曼拏羅中。依止而住作是白言。世尊而此右月曼拏羅中當云何入。
爾時世尊大毗盧遮那如來。告金剛手菩薩摩訶薩言。金剛手當知金剛杵即是金剛智。能生諸佛勝功德聚。金剛杵者其相五股依法所成。周匝復有光焰熾盛。是光從彼普賢心出。為堅固因起諸行相。若入曼拏羅者。當觀自身即是五智金剛杵相。作是觀時誦此大明曰。
唵(引)底瑟姹(二合)嚩日啰(二合一句)
複次頌曰。
佛於三阿僧祇劫 修成菩提最上行 歷位至登妙覺尊 皆由清凈無漏智 菩提妙月曼拏羅 最上清凈離諸垢 于中觀想智金剛 是即五智金剛杵
世尊大毗盧遮那如來作此所說。謂即表示執金剛者。複次當想盡虛空界。
【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本 所有諸佛功德之門,又融入『迦』字等微妙之相。
如此融入之後,便與諸法的影像相應。其相是怎樣的呢?

這些文字,就是菩提心月曼荼羅之相。此曼荼羅所有的法用行相次第,如其他經典所說。
這時,金剛手菩薩摩訶薩,又在世尊大毗盧遮那如來右邊的月曼荼羅中,依止而住,這樣稟告說:『世尊,這右邊的月曼荼羅應當如何進入呢?』
這時,世尊大毗盧遮那如來,告訴金剛手菩薩摩訶薩說:『金剛手,應當知道金剛杵即是金剛智,能生出諸佛殊勝的功德聚集。金剛杵的相是五股,依法所成,周圍又有光焰熾盛。這光是從普賢菩薩的心中發出,作為堅固的因,生起各種行相。如果進入曼荼羅,應當觀想自身就是五智金剛杵之相。』作這樣的觀想時,誦此大明咒說:
唵(om) 底瑟姹(tiṣṭha) 嚩日啰(vajra)
再次,頌說:
佛於三阿僧祇劫,修成菩提最上行, 歷位至登妙覺尊,皆由清凈無漏智。 菩提妙月曼荼羅,最上清凈離諸垢, 于中觀想智金剛,是即五智金剛杵。
世尊大毗盧遮那如來作了這樣的解說,就是表示執金剛者。再次,應當觀想盡虛空界。
【English Translation】 English version All the doors of merit of all Buddhas, again enter the subtle aspects such as the syllable 'ka' (迦).
Having entered thus, one then corresponds with the images of all dharmas. What are these aspects?
They are:
Ka (迦), Kha (佉), Ga (誐), Gha (伽), Nga (昂), Ca (左), Cha (蹉), Ja (惹), Jha (酂), Nya (倪), Ta (叱), Tha (姹), Da (拏), Dha (茶), Na (拏), Ta (多), Tha (他), Da (捺), Dha (陀), Na (那), Pa (波), Pha (頗), Ma (末), Bha (婆), Ma (摩), Ya (邪), Ra (啰), La (羅), Va (嚩), Sha (設), Sha (沙), Sa (薩), Ha (訶), Ksha (乞叉).
These letters are the aspect of the Bodhicitta Moon Mandala (菩提心月曼拏羅). The order of the functions and practices of this Mandala are as explained in other teachings.
At that time, Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva (金剛手菩薩摩訶薩), dwelling in the right Moon Mandala of the World Honored Mahavairocana Tathagata (大毗盧遮那如來), spoke thus: 'World Honored One, how should one enter this right Moon Mandala?'
At that time, the World Honored Mahavairocana Tathagata (大毗盧遮那如來) said to Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva (金剛手菩薩摩訶薩): 'Vajrapani (金剛手), know that the Vajra (金剛杵) is Vajra Wisdom (金剛智), which can generate the supreme accumulation of merits of all Buddhas. The Vajra (金剛杵) has five prongs, made according to the Dharma, and is surrounded by blazing flames. This light comes from the heart of Samantabhadra (普賢), and arises as the cause of firmness, giving rise to various practices. If one enters the Mandala, one should visualize oneself as the aspect of the Five Wisdom Vajra (五智金剛杵).' While making this visualization, recite this great mantra:
Om (唵) Tistha (底瑟姹) Vajra (嚩日啰).
Furthermore, a verse says:
The Buddha, in three asamkhya kalpas (阿僧祇劫), cultivated the supreme practice of Bodhi, Passing through stages to ascend to the honored state of wondrous enlightenment, all through pure, undefiled wisdom. The Bodhi wondrous Moon Mandala (菩提妙月曼拏羅), is supremely pure, free from all defilements, Within it, visualize the Wisdom Vajra (智金剛), which is the Five Wisdom Vajra (五智金剛杵).
The World Honored Mahavairocana Tathagata (大毗盧遮那如來) made this explanation, which indicates the one who holds the Vajra (執金剛者). Furthermore, one should contemplate the entire realm of empty space.
周遍普聚而為份量。都成一大金剛杵相然後行人觀想己身即金剛杵。廣略相應。當觀想時誦此大明曰。
唵(引)嚩日啰(二合引)怛摩(二合)酤(引)㰠(一句)
複次頌曰。
所有一切諸佛身 悉無對礙無依止 無生無作凈無瑕 是中無性等亦離 不斷不破亦不壞 法身無染本清凈 金剛堅固體出生 如來金剛身無上
爾時金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。於世尊大毗盧遮那如來右月曼拏羅中。依止住已作是白言。世尊復云何觀彼金剛杵。
爾時世尊大毗盧遮那如來。普遍觀察諸如來已。作如是言諦聽諸如來。我今宣說佛影像中觀影像相。其相云何。所謂薩埵金剛相。彼諸相具足。應當如是觀即佛影像相。作是觀想時誦此大明曰。
唵(引)野他(引)薩哩嚩(二合)怛他(引)誐多(引一句)塞怛(二合)他(引)㰠(二)
複次頌曰。
所有諸佛身秘密 境界性智行亦然 以五相成正覺尊 諸佛成滿皆清凈
爾時金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。復於世尊大毗盧遮那如來后月曼拏羅中。依止而住作是白言。世尊云何是秘密。復云何是境界性智行等亦然。
爾時世尊大毗盧遮那如來。稱讚金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。即說頌曰。
善哉金剛大薩埵 善哉

All the Buddhas' secret doors, All the Mahayana's directly realized Dharmas are included, When cultivation is accomplished, it is wonderfully pure, Having attained Buddhahood, one obtains wonderful bliss. At that time, Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva again said to the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata: 'World Honored One, what is the Vajra (vajra)? And what is the Lotus (lotus)?'
At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata, said to Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva: 'Vajrapani, the wisdom in which all the Tathagatas abide is the Vajra (vajra). The harmonious correspondence of the virtuous and holy beings of this family is called the Lotus (lotus). And that Vajra (vajra) dwells upon the Lotus (lotus), from which all the Tathagatas are born. The bodies of those Tathagatas are Vairocana. Having done this, then from the Vajra language, arrange the great bright secret letters.

Hanging bells, jewels, silken banners, and necklaces, the gentle breeze blows forth harmonious sounds. Like this, all kinds of special and wonderful adornments, auspicious and supreme, are worthy of praise. And that pavilion is where all the Tathagatas dwell together.'
樓閣中復想五股金剛杵輪。廣略相應。即想其杵覆成金剛薩埵大士影像。勝相具足身如月色現光明而復安處月輪之上。頂戴五佛殊妙寶冠。金剛相光焰鬘莊嚴。左右皆現高舉之相。安住諸法本來無性大三昧邪真實理中。若情若器諸性自性。以是二種合為一相。是故觀想己身成就金剛薩埵。如是觀已。即此本尊等諸法用然後施作。爾時金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。復於世尊大毗盧遮那如來前月曼拏羅中。依止而住作是白言。世尊云何是本尊。

Then, visualize that this Vajra transforms into the image of the great Bodhisattva Vajrasattva (Vajrasattva), whose excellent characteristics are complete, whose body is like the color of the moon, manifesting light, and who is peacefully situated upon a moon disc. Adorned with the exquisite jeweled crown of the Five Buddhas (Five Buddhas), the light and flames of the Vajra aspect are like a garland, and both the left and right hands appear raised high. Abiding in the great Samaya (Samaya) of the true principle of the inherent emptiness of all dharmas. When performing this visualization, one should form a secret mudra. This mudra is formed by first making the Vajra bond, then scattering the fingers, making a gesture of absorption. Forming the mudra, recite this great mantra of the original mind: 『Vajra (two combined) mandha trat (two combined) ta (one sentence)』 After reciting this great mantra and forming this mudra, then one may form all mudras, and perform the dharmas of the Ishtadevata and others, up to Vajra-avesha (Vajra-avesha), as well as summoning and other various accomplishment dharmas. From the action of the Vajra blessings of one's own body, speech, and mind, one will attain the accomplishment of being revered and loved. Then form the Vajra-avesha mudra, and recite that heart mantra. That mantra is: 『Ah (entering)』 Due to this heart mantra, universally absorbing the dharmas of the Ishtadevata and others, up to the various other accomplishment dharmas, one will be able to abide with the reverence and love of good friends. The Vajra-avesha mudra is formed by first making the Vajra palm, then making the Vajra bond, and then forming the Vajra-avesha mudra. The Vajra palm is the firm palm.

All suitable and joyful correct perceptions, all Dharani (總持門) doors, etc., up to the true nature of all Tathagatas (如來), etc., completely gather one's own mind. All attain and abide in the Vajra (金剛) empowered body, speech, and mind karma. Then, take silk and make it into a garland, place it on one's head, and recite this heart mantra: 'Patra (二合) Ti (引) Chawa Rizhi Luo (二合) Hu (引)' Having recited and blessed with this heart mantra, immediately make the appearance of tying a garland on the head, rotating and covering the face. When tying the garland, according to the appropriate Dharma (法) practice, the Acharya (阿阇梨, teacher) should say: 'You now receive this secret heart mantra. This is the inherently non-dual Dharma (法) of the brave and mighty World Honored One. Having obtained the true empowerment of the Acharya (阿阇梨, teacher), you can skillfully accomplish all undertakings. This is what was spoken by the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata (大毗盧遮那如來), and is commonly received and upheld by all Buddhas and Vajra-holders.' Having made this praise, Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva (金剛手菩薩摩訶薩, great being bodhisattva holding the vajra) again said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, what is the appearance of the initial opening of the eyes?' At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata (大毗盧遮那如來), told Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva (金剛手菩薩摩訶薩, great being bodhisattva holding the vajra): 'Vajrapani (金剛手), the initial opening of the eyes refers to one's own great Mandala (曼拏羅, sacred circle)'

【English Translation】 English version Thus contemplate. When contemplating this Mandala (sacred diagram), one immediately obtains the power and blessing of all Tathagatas (Thus Come Ones), and dwells in the heart of Vajrasattva (Diamond Being) in accordance with the principle. One also sees various luminous and excellent Mandalas, and also sees vast supernatural transformations and other things. Because of obtaining the blessing of the Tathagatas, one is able to see the body of Vajrapani (Vajra-Handed One), or one may also see the bodies of the various Tathagatas.
At that time, Achala Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Immovable Great Being) in the assembly went before the World Honored One, the fundamental non-substantial Tathagata Vairocana (Illuminator), circumambulated to the right, and said, 'World Honored One, what is the Great Mandala? How should I practice in it?'
At that time, the World Honored One, the Tathagata Vairocana, said to Achala Bodhisattva Mahasattva, 'The Great Mandala is to contemplate one's own Mandala. After contemplating in this way, take Vajra-blessed pure fragrant water and perform the Abhisheka (initiation), reciting this heart mantra:'
'Om Vajra Abhishincha (one phrase)'
Then form the garland Mudra (hand gesture), wear the crowns of all Buddhas, and pour it on the crown of your own head. To form the garland Mudra: first interlock the two thumbs in the palm, then bend the middle fingers and join their faces with the thumbs to form the Mudra. This is the Mudra of the Tathagata family. The Mudras of the other four families are also used in the same way. The great mantras of the five families are in the following order. The great mantras are:

Then, reaching the ears, rotate from the back of the head to the front, slowly descending to undo the mudrā. Perform this firmly, as in the rituals of the samgīti-śāstra (treatise on music). Furthermore, it is said in the samgīti-śāstra that the ācārya (teacher) should then hold the vajra (thunderbolt scepter), abide according to the Dharma, and then make a vow and admonition to the disciple: 『Now you have received this, all Buddhas and Tathāgatas, within the supreme secret Dharma, the vajrābhiṣeka (vajra empowerment). The characteristics of these vajras are extensively described in the Mahāyāna-abhisamaya-samādhi-śāstra (scripture on the samadhi of manifest realization in the Great Vehicle) and the Trailokyavijaya-śāstra (scripture on the conquest of the three worlds). Then, from the Samantabhadra's (普賢) heart, establish the great Mudra Samadhi, and accordingly proclaim the great heart mantra:
'Maha(a)samaya Sattva samaya Sattvam(three combined)(one sentence): Maha samaya Sattva samaya Sattvam: Great Samaya, sentient being's Samaya, truth. Maha(a)samaya Sattu(a)hum(two): Maha samaya Sattu hum: Great Samaya, all. 快哉一切正覺尊 我說即是金剛手 而彼一切佛如來 既金剛乘無有上
爾時金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。普遍觀察一切如來。皆悉同一真實住已。即於世尊大毗盧遮那如來右邊而住作是白言。世尊云何。是金剛杵。

複次依法。安想秘密菩薩種子文字。所謂。

複次頌曰。
想時當結三叉印 金剛杵安蓮華上 金剛嬉戲等法門 成就故得無盡樂
複次當知秘密供養法者。是即觀自在菩薩三摩地門。於是門中。即攝金剛嬉戲菩薩所有多羅菩薩及顰眉菩薩。即同一體而無差別。左現愛相哆羅菩薩於左邊住。右現愛相顰眉菩薩于右邊住。是諸菩薩於一切處同一相應。最上敬愛秘密成就。
爾時金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。即入一切如來蓮華金剛部三摩地。從是三摩地出已。向諸如來說此頌曰。
大哉最上秘密法 所謂蓮華中安住 一切成就剎那成 乃至無上菩提果

爾時金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。復白世尊大毗盧遮那如來言。世尊戲鬘歌舞四種秘密行相云何。
爾時世尊大毗盧遮那如來。贊金剛手菩薩摩訶薩言。善哉善哉金剛手。汝今善問秘密行相。我今為汝如理開示。或有大士愛樂嬉戲秘密行相。或有大士愛樂寶鬘秘密行相。或有大士愛樂妙歌秘密行相。或有大士愛樂旋舞秘密行相。或有大士普遍愛樂戲鬘歌舞秘密行相。如是一切秘密行相中起愛樂時。隨所樂心即入如來三摩地金剛蓮華相應法中。獲得無上秘密成就。

'Listen closely, all you Tathāgatas, the great wisdom of the Buddhas is unsurpassed. Secret offerings are in accordance with the Dharma, benefiting sentient beings, accomplishing all. Acting in accordance with Vajra (Diamond) play, my mind is firm and unwavering. Vajra garlands and wondrous songs, whirling dance offerings are also like this. All secret acts of reverence and love, such Dharma rituals are supremely excellent. Practicing according to the Dharma in this secret, one immediately obtains the joy bestowed by all the Buddhas.'

Like this, when delight arises in all secret aspects, according to the mind that delights, one enters the Dharma corresponding to the Vajra Lotus of the Tathāgata's Samādhi (Concentration), and obtains unsurpassed secret accomplishment.'
At that time, Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva Mahāsattva went before the Buddha, knelt on his right knee, respectfully prostrated, and said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, if there are upright people, who are vessels of the Great Dharma, how should they practice in this Dharma corresponding to secret offerings?'
理修學。彼能成就一切事業。乃至得成佛無上智。況復余法有不成者。
爾時世尊大毗盧遮那如來。即入諸佛大智三昧加持安住三摩地。從是三摩地出已。即結金剛嬉戲大菩薩秘密智印。復為攝集。令金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。表示秘密神通行相。謂本所有一真法性。從是出生諸菩薩等。從吽字等而為大智。由此即生金剛嬉戲秘密菩薩。及持明藏一切賢聖。是諸賢聖皆悉同本一真法性。
爾時金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。受世尊大毗盧遮那如來教敕已。即說秘密行相。所謂依如來部金剛印成就廣大儀軌中法用。若作持誦時。當不動舌端。唇齒二相合離諸音聲。但以金剛語音而為持誦。即能成就一切儀軌。此說即是金剛語菩薩法。複次金剛部秘密印成就廣大儀軌中法用。謂以自身金剛杵。入一切相應賢聖真法性中。秘密行人作是法時。即得一切事業成就。此說即是金剛薩埵菩薩法。複次金剛部秘密印成就廣大儀軌中法用。謂諸所欲得佛世尊究竟真常。常施一切眾生妙樂。復能成就一切事業。此說即是金剛手菩薩法。

【English Translation】 English version: If one cultivates this principle, they can accomplish all endeavors, even attaining the unsurpassed wisdom of Buddhahood. How much more so, then, could other dharmas not be accomplished?
At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata (Mahavairocana Buddha, the Great Illuminator), entered the Samadhi (samadhi, meditative absorption) of the Great Wisdom of all Buddhas, abiding in that Samadhi with its blessings. Having emerged from this Samadhi, he formed the Secret Wisdom Mudra (mudra, hand gesture) of the Great Vajra-lasya Bodhisattva (Vajra-lasya Bodhisattva, the Vajra Playful Bodhisattva), and further, for the purpose of gathering, he caused Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the great Bodhisattva holding the vajra) to manifest the aspect of secret miraculous powers. This means that from the originally existing one true Dharma-nature (the true nature of reality), all Bodhisattvas and others are born; from the syllable Hum (hūṃ, seed syllable) and others, great wisdom arises. That is, relying on the Dharma practices within the vast ritual procedures accomplished through the Vajra Mudra (vajra-mudra, vajra hand gesture) of the Tathagata-kula (Tathagata-kula, the Tathagata family), when performing recitation, one should not move the tip of the tongue, and the lips and teeth should come together and separate to produce various sounds, but one should recite with the Vajra Voice (vajra-voice, the indestructible voice). This will enable the accomplishment of all rituals. This teaching is the Dharma of Vajra-bhasha Bodhisattva (Vajra-bhasha Bodhisattva, the Vajra Speech Bodhisattva). Furthermore, the Dharma practices within the vast ritual procedures accomplished through the Secret Mudra of the Vajra-kula (Vajra-kula, the Vajra family) involve entering the true Dharma-nature of all corresponding worthy sages with one's own vajra (vajra, diamond scepter). When a secret practitioner performs this practice, they will attain the accomplishment of all endeavors. This teaching is the Dharma of Vajrasattva Bodhisattva (Vajrasattva Bodhisattva, the Vajra Being Bodhisattva). Furthermore, the Dharma practices within the vast ritual procedures accomplished through the Secret Mudra of the Vajra-kula involve the ultimate, true, and constant state of the World Honored One Buddha, which constantly bestows wonderful bliss upon all sentient beings and enables the accomplishment of all endeavors. This teaching is the Dharma of Vajrapani Bodhisattva (Vajrapani Bodhisattva, the Vajra Hand Bodhisattva).
At that time, Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva again said to all the Tathagatas: 'Tathagatas, listen carefully, this secret wisdom is supremely unsurpassed. If one wishes to attain the body of all Buddhas, one should abide in stillness, maintaining a samahita-citta (samahita-citta, concentrated mind), and enter the Samadhi of the Wisdom of all Tathagatas. Having emerged from this Samadhi, one will attain the body of a Buddha and will be able to accomplish the various Samadhi Dharmas.' 【English Translation】 English version: Samadhi of the earth. Yakshini (Yakshini, female Yaksha) accomplishment Samadhi. All planets Avesha (Avesha, possession) accomplishment Samadhi. Eliminating all planets Samadhi. Breaking all evils Samadhi. Vidyadhara (Vidyadhara, knowledge holder) Samadhi. Supernatural power accomplishment Samadhi. Wealth accomplishment Samadhi. Entering Asura (Asura, demigod) palace accomplishment Samadhi. Constantly obtaining love and respect from the king and royal family accomplishment Samadhi. These and other such are countless kinds of Samadhi methods. 用行相復云何說。世尊此理甚深。我於是義不能解了。

At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata (Mahavairocana, the Great Illuminator), praised Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva (Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the great bodhisattva holding the vajra) saying: 『Excellent, excellent, Vajrapani! You should now know that the vajra (vajra, symbolizing wisdom and power) dwelling on the lotus (lotus, symbolizing compassion and purity) is for the sake of benefiting, bringing joy, and greatly enriching sentient beings, performing the most supreme deeds of all Buddhas. Therefore, within that pure lotus, the vajra dwells upon it, even entering into it, initiating the true vajra recitation. Then the vajra and the lotus strike each other, accomplishing two kinds of pure milk-like appearances (milk-like appearance, manifestation of essence): one is the vajra milk-like appearance, and the other is the lotus milk-like appearance. From these two appearances, a great bodhisattva's auspicious appearance is born, and then a great bodhisattva's fierce appearance is born. At that time, Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva again said to the Buddha: 『World Honored One, what is the milk-like appearance? And from where does it arise? May the World Honored One clearly reveal and explain.』
At that time, the World Honored One told Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva: 『It is your, Vajrapani's, most supreme secret offering; this is the milk-like appearance, and it arises from here.』 Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva again said to the Buddha: 『World Honored One, I do not understand the meaning of what you have said.』 The Buddha said: 『Vajrapani, you should know that the milk-like appearance is the original true appearance, as it is said in the secret Subduing the Three Worlds teaching.』
At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata, universally embraced all bodhisattvas, including Vajrapani, making them the same in truth and the same in birth, all becoming one Vajrasattva (Vajrasattva, Diamond Being) body, and told all the Tathagatas: 『The secret offerings and other secret practices now spoken of are only for the purpose of alerting the heretical and external groups, so the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas speak of them in secret.』 At this time, the manifested Vajrasattva body and the bodhisattvas of its family dwell together in right view, giving rise to reverence and love, universally embracing them only with the vajra bond (vajra bond, diamond knot). 【English Translation】 English version: With the Vajra (symbol of indestructible wisdom) to open the Lotus (symbol of purity) of awakening, thereby fully attaining the corresponding state of the same Samadhi (concentration).
At that time, the great Bodhisattvas of this assembly, having attained awakening, then spoke the following verses:
'Wonderful, the supreme of all perfectly enlightened ones! The one I revere and love, who bestows wondrous bliss, only this wondrous bliss exists, and nothing else, that can accomplish the secret Dharma.'
At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata (the Illuminator), then spoke the following verses:
'Wonderful, this wondrous bliss is unsurpassed! All virtuous practitioners should cultivate it. Now, this secret and subtle Dharma gate, those defiled by sin should not receive it. This secret Lotus is supreme, Vajra Vilas (playful display of wisdom) is that Dharma. The teaching of the Vajra Lotus is also thus, encompassing all the wisdom of Vairocana.'
When the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata, spoke these verses, countless hundreds of thousands of extraordinary and wondrous auspicious signs appeared all at once.
