爾時世尊。在凈光天清凈大樓閣之中。于彼樓閣以金剛柱及最上珍寶種種裝嚴。如是嚴飾供養悉是如來神通變化。爾時會中有如是阿閦寶生無量壽不空成就等如來。

爾時大毗盧遮那如來胎藏於四面門。出生諸大菩薩眾及諸大明者無數賢聖。復有忿怒明王。與其眷屬唧吒唧致。訥多訥帝。緊羯啰緊羯哩等。復有天龍夜叉巘達哩嚩阿蘇啰誐嚕拏緊那啰摩護啰誐等無數之眾。俱來在會圍繞世尊。爾時大毗盧遮那如來。常住安樂三摩地。常不離大智大行大慈大悲救度眾生。

爾時大毗盧遮那如來。于大會中觀彼金剛手菩薩已。放大光明照于眾會。時金剛手菩薩從座而起。偏袒右肩贍仰如來。以右手擲金剛杵。右膝著地合掌作禮。而白佛言何因何緣。如來放大光明。若無因緣佛非放光。我見此光心生疑惑。時會大眾懷疑亦然。唯愿世尊作師子吼。善說妙法斷我疑網。

爾時世尊毗盧遮那如來。受金剛手菩薩請已告言。我今放光欲說此大智大自在幻化網瑜伽大教

爾時,世尊在凈光天清凈大樓閣之中。那樓閣以金剛柱和最上等的珍寶裝飾,種種莊嚴供養都是如來的神通變化。當時法會中有阿閦(Akshobhya)如來、寶生(Ratnasambhava)如來、無量壽(Amitabha)如來、不空成就(Amoghasiddhi)如來等。

當時,大毗盧遮那(Mahavairocana)如來在四面門顯現胎藏,出生諸大菩薩眾和諸大明者無數賢聖。又有忿怒明王,和他們的眷屬唧吒唧致(Citracitra)、訥多訥帝(Natanati)、緊羯啰緊羯哩(Kinkarakinkari)等。還有天龍、夜叉(Yaksa)、巘達哩嚩(Gandharva)、阿蘇啰(Asura)、誐嚕拏(Garuda)、緊那啰(Kinnara)、摩護啰誐(Mahoraga)等無數之眾,都來到法會圍繞世尊。當時大毗盧遮那如來,常住在安樂三摩地,常不離大智、大行、大慈、大悲,救度眾生。

當時,大毗盧遮那如來在大會中觀察金剛手(Vajrapani)菩薩后,放出大光明照耀整個法會。當時金剛手菩薩從座位上站起來,偏袒右肩,瞻仰如來,用右手擲金剛杵,右膝著地,合掌作禮,對佛說:『因為什麼原因,有什麼緣故,如來放出大光明?如果沒有原因和緣故,佛不會放光。我見到這光明,心中生起疑惑。』當時法會大眾也同樣懷疑。『唯愿世尊作獅子吼,善說妙法,斷除我的疑網。』

當時世尊毗盧遮那如來,接受金剛手菩薩的請求后告訴他:『我今天放光,想要宣說這大智、大自在的幻化網瑜伽大教。』

The Sutra of the Visualization Ritual of the Great Luminous King of the Ten Wrathful Deities in the Yoga Teachings of the Great Illusory Net Spoken by the Buddha

Translated by the Tripitaka Master Fa Xian, Minister of the Imperial Secretariat with the title of Grand Master of Enlightenment, of the Western Heaven Translation Bureau, under Imperial Decree

At that time, the World Honored One was in the Pure Light Heaven, within a pure and great pavilion. That pavilion was adorned with vajra pillars and the finest jewels of various kinds. All such adornments and offerings were transformations through the supernormal powers of the Tathagata. At that time, in the assembly were Tathagatas such as Akshobhya, Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, and Amoghasiddhi.

At that time, the Great Vairocana Tathagata manifested the Womb Mandala at the four gates, bringing forth numerous great Bodhisattvas and great luminous beings, countless virtuous sages. There were also Wrathful Kings, along with their retinues Citracitra, Natanati, Kinkarakinkari, and others. Furthermore, there were countless beings such as Devas, Nagas, Yakshas, Gandharvas, Asuras, Garudas, Kinnaras, and Mahoragas, all coming to the assembly, surrounding the World Honored One. At that time, the Great Vairocana Tathagata constantly abided in the Samadhi of Bliss, never departing from great wisdom, great practice, great compassion, and great mercy, saving all beings.

At that time, the Great Vairocana Tathagata, observing Vajrapani Bodhisattva in the great assembly, emitted great light, illuminating the entire assembly. Then, Vajrapani Bodhisattva rose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, gazed up at the Tathagata, threw his vajra scepter with his right hand, knelt on his right knee, joined his palms in reverence, and said to the Buddha: 'For what reason, for what cause, does the Tathagata emit great light? If there were no reason or cause, the Buddha would not emit light. Seeing this light, doubt arises in my mind.' The great assembly at that time also had the same doubts. 'May the World Honored One roar like a lion, skillfully expound the wonderful Dharma, and sever my net of doubts.'

At that time, the World Honored One, Vairocana Tathagata, having received the request of Vajrapani Bodhisattva, told him: 'Today, I emit light, desiring to expound this great wisdom, great freedom, Yoga teaching of the Great Illusory Net.'


王。金剛手此金剛大智方便行。一切義海所作最勝。於一切教中上中最上。能善安樂一切有情。如是說已。即入智慧方便大自在金剛救度大樂金剛三摩地。從定出已。說大幻化網瑜伽大教三昧曼拏羅中十忿怒明王觀想儀軌法。

複次持明行人。以吽hūṃ 字為大智想。此吽hūṃ 字化成焰鬘得迦忿怒大明王。光如劫火身作大青雲色。六面六臂六足身短腹大。作大忿怒相。利牙如金剛面各三目。以八大龍王而為嚴飾。虎皮為衣髑髏為冠。乘於水牛足踏蓮花。須赤黃色有大辯才。頂戴阿閦佛自在而坐。大惡相顧視。正面笑容。右面黃色舌相出外。左面白色咬唇。是妙吉祥菩薩化身。右第一手執劍第二手執金剛杵。第三手執箭。左第一手執罥索復豎頭指。第二手持般若波羅蜜多經。第三手執弓於此明王下。想諸天魔怖畏作禮。身有日輪圓光。變化諸佛如雲。若持明者如是依法觀想及誦大明。彼人行住坐臥。常受五欲快樂而無過失。譬如虛空物不能著。此名能成壞大智金剛調伏三摩地。

This Vajra Great Wisdom Skillful Means Practice of Vajrapani (Vajra in hand, a Bodhisattva) is the most supreme accomplishment of all the oceans of meaning. Among all teachings, it is the highest of the highest, capable of bringing well-being and happiness to all sentient beings. Having spoken thus, Vajrapani entered the Great Wisdom Skillful Means Great Self-Mastery Vajra Saving Great Bliss Vajra Samadhi. Emerging from this samadhi, he proclaimed the visualization ritual methods of the Ten Wrathful Vidyarajas (wisdom kings) within the Great Illusory Net Yoga Great Teaching Samaya Mandala.

Furthermore, the mantra practitioner (mantrin) should contemplate the syllable 'Hūṃ' (hūṃ) as the embodiment of great wisdom. This syllable 'Hūṃ' transforms into Yamāntaka (the destroyer of Yama, the lord of death), the Wrathful Great Vidyaraja. His light is like the fire at the end of an eon, his body is the color of a great blue cloud. He has six faces, six arms, and six legs, a short body and a large belly, displaying a great wrathful appearance. His sharp teeth are like vajras, each face has three eyes. He is adorned with the eight great Naga kings, wears a tiger skin as clothing, and a crown of skulls. He rides upon a water buffalo, his feet stepping on lotuses. His beard is reddish-yellow, and he possesses great eloquence. He wears Akshobhya (Immovable One, one of the Five Transcendent Buddhas) on his head, seated in a posture of ease and mastery. He gazes with a fierce expression, his front face smiling, his right face yellow with the tongue protruding, and his left face white, biting his lip. He is an emanation of Mañjuśrī (Gentle Glory, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom). His first right hand holds a sword, the second a vajra, and the third an arrow. His first left hand holds a noose and raises the forefinger, the second holds the Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra (Perfection of Wisdom Sutra), and the third holds a bow. Below this Vidyaraja, visualize the gods and demons bowing in fear and reverence. His body has a sun-like halo, transforming into Buddhas like clouds. If a mantra practitioner thus visualizes according to the Dharma and recites the great mantra, that person, whether walking, standing, sitting, or lying down, will constantly enjoy the pleasures of the five desires without fault, just as nothing can cling to the sky. This is called the Samadhi of Great Wisdom Vajra Subduing, which can accomplish and destroy.

Furthermore, the World Honored One, Mahāvairocana Tathagata (The Great Illuminator, the Primordial Buddha), is the head of all Tathagatas. He entered the Great Wisdom Mahāvairocana Tathagata Vajra Samadhi. Emerging from this samadhi, through the three vajra gates (body, speech, and mind), he spoke the great mantra of Yamāntaka, the Great Wrathful Vidyaraja, as follows:

複次持明者作成就法。當用自死人髑髏。取只一片圓滿而成者。及兩耳通過者。堪為作法。若兩片成髑髏。及兩耳不通過。不堪作法。取設咄嚕足下土為泥。作設咄嚕形入于髑髏內。持明者以足踏之。誦此大明句召速來。依此觀想而自降伏。

此外,持明者如果要做成就法,應當使用自然死亡的人的頭蓋骨。選取完整的一片,並且兩耳有穿孔的頭蓋骨,才適合用來作法。如果頭蓋骨是兩片拼成的,或者兩耳沒有穿孔,就不適合用來作法。取設咄嚕(Satru,敵人)腳下的泥土,做成設咄嚕的形狀,放入頭蓋骨內。持明者用腳踩著它,誦唸這個偉大的明咒,召請設咄嚕迅速到來,依照這個方法觀想,就能夠降伏設咄嚕。

At that time, the Great Vairocana Tathagata (Mahavairocana, the Great Illuminator) spoke this great mantra. All the Buddhas and great powerful Bodhisattvas praised it as unprecedented. They single-mindedly recited the name of the Great Vajra Vairocana Buddha. It was as if they saw the Great Wisdom, Great Transformation Vajra, the Great Wrathful Yamantaka (Vajra Krodha Yamantaka, the Vajra Wrathful Destroyer of Yama), possessing great power, appear in the world. Such a mantra holder, if they establish a boundary according to the Dharma, can eliminate all evils and become the most supreme.

Furthermore, if a mantra holder wants to perform an accomplishment ritual, they should use the skull of a person who died naturally. Only a complete piece with holes through both ears is suitable for performing the ritual. 【English Translation】 English version: At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Vajra Tathagata, again spoke of the visualization method of the Invincible Great Wrathful Vidyaraja (Acalanatha). Visualize the syllable 'pra' (pra), which represents great wisdom. Visualize this syllable transforming into the Invincible Great Wrathful Vidyaraja. The Vidyaraja has three faces, each with three eyes, and six arms. His body is yellow, and he has a halo of the sun, radiating greatly, dwelling freely. He is adorned with the Eight Great Dragon Kings. The front face has a smile, the right face is dark blue, slightly wrathful, and the left face is white, biting the lip, displaying a greatly evil appearance. The first right hand holds the vajra (diamond scepter), the second hand holds a jeweled staff, and the third hand holds an arrow. At that time, the World Honored One, Mahāvairocana-tathāgata, having spoken this great mantra of Aparājita-mahākrodha-vidyārāja, all the Buddhas and great majestic Bodhisattvas praised it, and all the heretics and non-believers were greatly terrified, their bodies and minds trembling, only reciting the name of Mahāvairocana-buddha.

Furthermore, when a vidyādhara performs the accomplishment ritual, he can use leaves from a whirlwind and soil from under the feet of a śatru (enemy), mixing them to create an image of Vināyaka. The vidyādhara steps on it and recites this great mantra according to the Dharma, using the syllable 'Hūṃ' and 'Phaṭ' together with the mantra. This can also dispatch Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, let alone a śatru (enemy).

Those mantra holders, abiding by the Dharma, recite and uphold this mantra, and can accomplish everything and destroy everything.

Contemplate this syllable transforming into Vighnāntaka the Great Wrathful Vidyaraja, with a deep blue-cloud color, three faces and six arms, each face with three eyes. The front face is smiling, the right face is white, and the left face is yellow, displaying a wrathful expression, biting the lip. The right foot treads upon all demons, and the left foot treads upon a lotus flower. The first right hand holds a sharp sword, the second holds a鉞axe, and the third holds an arrow. The first left hand holds a noose, pointing the index finger upwards, the second holds the Prajñāpāramitā Sutra, and the third holds a bow. On the crown of the head is Akshobhya (Akshobhya), possessing great supernatural powers, able to subdue all demons and send down a great rain of compassion. Contemplating in this way, according to the Dharma, can remove all demonic obstacles. This is called the Most Supreme Great Vajra Samadhi.

Visualize the syllable 『haṃ』 as great wisdom, which transforms into Acalanātha-mahākrodha-vidyārāja. His appearance is that of a squint-eyed youth, with six arms and three faces, each face having three eyes, adorned as a young boy. The front face has a smile, the right face is yellow with the tongue protruding, tinged with blood. The left face is white, displaying an angry expression, and emits the sound of 『hūṃ』. The body is emerald green, with feet treading on a lotus flower and a jeweled mountain, standing in a dancing posture, capable of removing all demons. The front face is blue, with a smiling expression. The left face is yellow. The right face is white, biting the lip. The body is the color of blue clouds. He is adorned with the eight great Nāga kings. The hair is lush and green. He wears a Buddha on the crown of his head. His feet step on lotuses, standing in a dancing posture. The first right hand holds a vajra (symbolizing the destruction of afflictions). The second hand holds a jeweled staff. The third hand holds an arrow. They single-mindedly recited the Great Wisdom, the Great Vairocana Buddha. This Great Vidya-mantra has great power and can transform into a vajra-rope and vajra-hook, quickly hooking and summoning all the heavenly maidens, etc., and none will fail to come immediately. In the method of summoning, this mantra is the most supreme.

At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata, again spoke of the visualization method of the Vajrapatala Great Wrathful Vidyaraja. Taking the syllable 'dhu' as Great Wisdom, visualize transforming into the Vajrapatala Great Wrathful Vidyaraja. His body is white like milk, and he has six arms. The first right hand holds a vajra, the second holds a vajra-hook, and the third hand holds an arrow. The first left hand holds a noose, raising the index finger, the second hand holds the Prajnaparamita Sutra, and the third hand holds a bow. He manifests the appearance of subduing all Asuras.

At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vairocana Tathagata, spoke this Great Vidya-mantra of the Vajrapatala Great Wrathful Vidyaraja, saying:

Om bhanja (Om bhanja): Om, destroy. Sarva patalanaitat yagana (Sarva patalanaitat yagana): All fallen and obstructed beings. Hum hum hum phat (Hum hum hum phat): Hum, hum, hum, phat.

At that time, the World Honored One, the Great Vajra Tathagata Vairocana, spoke of these Ten Great Wrathful Vidyarajas. Each Vidyaraja has three faces, and each face has three eyes. The eyes are all bright red, manifesting a wrathful appearance.


顧視相。以黑色難那龍王及俱梨迦龍王繫於髮髻。以金色得叉迦龍王為耳環。如赤金色摩賀缽訥摩龍王為手釧。以白色羯哩俱吒迦龍王為絡腋。如紅蓮花色嚩蘇枳龍王為繫腰。白色如螺缽訥摩龍王為足上鈴鐸。如是八大龍王以為裝嚴。如是十大明王皆作大惡相。以虎皮為衣髑髏為冠。髮髻豎立作赤黃色。頂戴阿閦如來。各有日輪圓光及座。正面笑容。右面微現忿怒相。左面大惡相。利牙咬唇顰眉立如舞勢。如是持明之者。依法觀想一切所愿無不成就。

【English Translation】 English version: (The practitioner) looks around. (The Vidyaraja) uses the black Nanda-dragon king and Kulika-dragon king to tie the hair bun, uses the golden Takshaka-dragon king as earrings, like the reddish-golden Mahapadma-dragon king as bracelets, uses the white Karkotaka-dragon king as armlets, like the red lotus-colored Vasuki-dragon king tied around the waist, and the white conch-like Padma-dragon king as bells on the feet. In this way, the eight great dragon kings are used as adornments.

Like this, all ten Vidyarajas manifest fierce appearances, using tiger skin as clothing, using skulls as crowns, the hair buns standing upright and appearing reddish-yellow, with Akshobhya Tathagata on the top of the head. Each has a sun-wheel halo and a seat. The front is a smiling face, the right side slightly shows an angry appearance, and the left side is an extremely fierce appearance, with sharp teeth biting the lips, frowning and standing like a dancing posture. Like this, the mantra holder, according to the law, contemplates, and all wishes will be fulfilled.
