先凈身口意 歸命佛法僧 敬禮遍照尊 十方諸聖眾 我今略開演 秘密消災法 此法世尊說 最勝最第一 速出離生死 疾證大菩提 為順眾生界 及說除災難 增敬降伏法 女人懷難月 產危難生子 及遭疾患者 神鬼作禍殃 建立曼拏攞 塑畫本尊像 燈燃四十九 供養琉璃尊 晝夜恒照明 奉香花果食 五色成幡蓋 放水陸眾生 日滿四十九 加持五色線 繫於病人項 欲修如是法 智者先從師 受三昧耶戒 發大菩提心 得持明灌頂 阿阇梨印可 然後乃修持 山林閑靜處 河池及海岸 或自居住處 涂拭曼拏攞 方圓隨本意 置二閼伽水 安排下七位 燒香花燈明 飲食涂香等 陳設壇四邊 懺悔並隨喜 勸請發願等 迴向諸功德 相應成悉地 順教而修習 輪結契印法 佛部心密印 定慧應內縛 雙慧俱申豎 觀佛滿虛空 誦真言七遍 頂上而散印

【English Translation】 English version The Ritual of Reciting the Name of Bhaisajyaguru (Medicine Buddha) to Eliminate Disasters and Difficulties
No. 922
The Ritual of Reciting the Name of Bhaisajyaguru (Medicine Buddha) to Eliminate Disasters and Difficulties
First, purify body, speech, and mind. Take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Pay homage to Vairocana (the Illuminating One), and all the holy beings of the ten directions. Today, I will briefly expound this secret method of eliminating disasters. This method was taught by the Buddha, and it is the most supreme and the very best. It can quickly liberate one from the cycle of birth and death, and swiftly attain Mahabodhi (Great Enlightenment). To accord with the realm of sentient beings, I will explain this method of eliminating disasters, increasing blessings, and subduing evil forces. For women during pregnancy, or those encountering danger during childbirth, as well as those suffering from illness, or those afflicted by the mischief of gods and ghosts, one can establish a Mandala. Sculpt or paint an image of the principal deity (Bhaisajyaguru), and light forty-nine lamps. Make offerings to Bhaisajyaguru, illuminating day and night continuously. Offer incense, flowers, fruits, and food, and make banners and canopies from five-colored silks. Release aquatic and terrestrial creatures, continuing for forty-nine days. Bless five-colored threads and tie them around the neck of the sick person. Those who wish to practice this method, the wise should first follow a Guru (teacher), receive the Samaya (vow), and generate the great Bodhi (mind of enlightenment). Receive the Vidyadhara Abhisheka (empowerment), and be approved by an Acharya (master). Then one can practice this method. Choose a quiet place in the mountains and forests, or by a river or the sea, or in one's own dwelling. Smear and arrange the Mandala, in a square or round shape, according to one's own intention. Place two Arghya (water offerings), arranged according to the seven positions below. Burn incense, offer flowers, lamps, food, scented ointments, and so on. Arrange offerings on the four sides of the altar, perform repentance and rejoice in merits. Invite the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, make vows, and dedicate all merits. In this way, one can attain Siddhi (accomplishment), practicing in accordance with the teachings. The Mudra (hand gesture) of the Wheel Binding The Secret Mudra of the Buddha Family: The Samadhi (concentration) and Wisdom Mudras should be bound internally (hands clasped inward), both Wisdom (middle fingers) extended straight upward, visualizing the Buddha filling the void. Recite the mantra seven times, and scatter the Mudra on the crown of the head.

唵嚩日啰(二合)(ōng wá rì luō)地力(二合)(dì lì)迦娑嚩(二合)(jiā suō pó)賀(引)(hè)。
以此加持的緣故,金剛眾都會雲集於此。 秉承諸佛的本願和慈悲,衛護修行之人。 身、口、意三業如同金剛一般,堅固而不可摧毀。 接下來結被甲印,止觀(左右手)各作拳狀。 持輪(雙手)橫放在掌心,止拳(左拳)而安心。 觀想拳頭加持五個部位:額頭、兩肩、心口、喉嚨。 加持頭頂后散開手印。
真言曰:
唵仆(入)(ōng pú)入嚩(二合)(rù wá)攞帝惹(引)(lài rě)吽(hōng)。

【English Translation】 English version Er Jia Suo He (Er He) (Ěr jiā suō pó): Transliteration of a mantra, the specific meaning of which needs to be referenced in the original Sanskrit.
Due to this blessing, all Buddhas will gather here. The light illuminates the practitioner, enabling them to quickly achieve accomplishment by removing obstacles. Next, form the Lotus Family mudra, the heart mudra as mentioned before. Bend the Samadhi Wheel (middle finger) into the palm, and erect the Wisdom Wheel (ring finger). One should visualize Avalokiteśvara (Guānzìzài) (i.e., Guanshiyin Bodhisattva) and the retinue of the Lotus Family. Located on the right side of all Tathagatas, recite the mantra seven times. Scatter the mudra over the right side of the crown of the head.
The mantra says:
Om A Lu Li Jia Suo He (Er He) (ōng ā lǔ lì jiā suō pó) He (Yin) (hè).
Due to this blessing, the Bodhisattva assembly will gather here. Practitioners can act together with the Bodhisattvas, and all wishes will be fulfilled. Next, form the Vajra Family mudra, the heart mudra is also as mentioned before. Bend the Wisdom Wheel (ring finger) into the palm, and erect the Samadhi Wheel (middle finger). One should visualize Vajrapani (Jīngāng shǒu) (name of a Bodhisattva) and all Vajra-holders. Residing on the right side of the Tathagata, recite the mantra seven times. Scatter the mudra over the left side of the crown of the head.
The mantra says:
Om Wa Ri Luo (Er He) (ōng wá rì luō) Di Li (Er He) (dì lì) Jia Suo He (Er He) (jiā suō pó) He (Yin) (hè).
Due to this blessing, the Vajra assembly will gather here. Bearing the original vows and compassion of the Buddhas, they protect the practitioners. The three karmas of body, speech, and mind are like Vajra, firm and indestructible. Next, form the Armor Mudra, with the Zhi and Guan (left and right hands) each making a fist. Hold the wheels (both hands) horizontally in the palms, and calm the mind with the Zhi fist (left fist). Visualize the fists blessing five places: forehead, both shoulders, heart, throat. After blessing the crown of the head, scatter the mudra.
The mantra says:
Om Pu (Ru) (ōng pú) Ru Wa (Er He) (rù wá) Lai Re (Yin) (lài rě) Hong (hōng).
Due to the blessing of this mudra and mantra, because of being protected by armor. All demons cannot invade and oppress, quickly achieving accomplishment. Among all Buddha-crowns, this mudra possesses great power and virtue. Just by forming this mudra to protect the body, humans and devas will revere. In all dangerous and difficult places, and during all kinds of disasters. One can obtain peace and happiness, next with sincere devotion. Extend the Shamatha Wheel (shē mó tā lún) (stopping, meditation), Vipashyana holding (pí bō hán nà chí) (observing, wisdom). Press the ground with the mudra and recite the mantra, blessing completely seven times. Transform this defiled place.

Om Bu(enter) Kham(elongated)
Through the blessing of this mantra, the pure land of the principal deity is accomplished. There is a vast jeweled palace, adorned with various treasures. Within the jeweled palace, visualize Bhaisajyaguru (Medicine Buddha) Surrounded by a multitude of Bodhisattvas, and visualize the Mandala. Next, form the welcoming mudra, using the heart mantra of the Buddha family from before. Rotate the hands towards oneself in a beckoning gesture, reciting the mantra three times.
The mantra says:
Om Er Na Er Ga Ehi Yehi Bhagawadu Ushnisha Ya Svaha
Through the blessing of this mantra, all those who create obstacles Will flee far away, respecting the practitioner. Next, offer Arghya water, scattering seasonal flowers upon it. Place precious medicines, incense, and seeds within the water. Raise it to the crown of the head and offer it, reciting the mantra seven times. Visualize bathing the feet of the holy assembly, and pronounce the desired wishes.
The mantra says:
Namo Samanta Buddhanam Om Gagana Sama Sama Svaha
Through offering fragrant water, one is freed from defilements and attains purity. One will attain the ground of empowerment, realizing the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata. Next, form the mudra of offering a seat, with the five fingertips blooming like a flower. Visualize a lotus lion throne flowing forth from the mudra.
The mantra says:
Om Kamala Simha Svaha
Through this mantra and mudra, the principal deity and retinue Each receive a jeweled lotus, and a vajra lion throne. Next, form the great mudra of universal offering, according to the ritual. The tips of the fingers slightly crossed, from the mudra flows forth Various offerings, burning incense, flowers, lamps, Perfume, food, and so on, a sea of music and instruments. Platforms, umbrellas, jeweled pavilions, thrones, and other adornments, Victorious and wonderful banners and canopies, virtuous vases filled with fragrant water, All flow forth from the mudra, filling all of space.

由此印真言,加持威力故,能滿一切愿,除一切不祥,生一切福德,滅一切罪障,能令諸有情(Sentient beings),見聞獲安樂。次稱揚讚歎,本尊之功德,歸命滿月界,凈妙琉璃尊,法藥救人天,因中十二愿,慈悲弘誓廣,愿度諸含生(Sentient beings)。我今申贊。
【English Translation】 English version Dharmadhatu: I offer to all the Tathagatas, Bodhisattvas, and Holy Assembly.
The Mantra says:
Namo Samanta Buddhanam Sarvatha Kham Utgate Sapharana Gagana Kham Svaha
Then, with the power of the three equalities, the true and wonderful Gatha, sincerely recite three times, and all will be accomplished. With the power of my merits, the blessing power of the Tathagatas, and the power of the Dharmadhatu, I dwell in universal offering. Afterwards, form the Mudra of the Buddha's Great Compassion, the ritual of the protective seal, the five peaks firmly bound, the victorious wheel's top vertically joined, sealing the heart, forehead, throat, and crown, equal to the Buddha's own body.
The Mantra says:
Om Buddha Maitri Vajra Raksha Ham
Through this blessing, all demonic obstacles and calamities, and harm from evil people, will quickly give rise to compassion. Next, form the Buddha Eye Mudra, which should be with three Samputas, the two covers holding the light back, like the shape of smiling eyes, bending the two wheels each holding, the middle joints of the two lights, sealing the five places of one's own body, may the Buddha Mother always protect, recite the root of the Buddha Eye.
The Mantra says:
Namo Bhagawate Usnisa Ya Om Ruru Sphuru Jvala Tista Siddha Locani Sarvartha Sadhani Svaha
Through the power of this Mudra and Mantra, it can fulfill all wishes, remove all misfortunes, generate all blessings, eliminate all karmic obstacles, and enable all sentient beings to obtain peace and happiness through seeing and hearing. Next, praise and extol the merits of the principal deity, taking refuge in the realm of the full moon, the pure and wonderful Vaidurya (Lapis Lazuli) honored one, the Dharma medicine that saves humans and devas, the twelve vows in the causal stage, with vast compassion and great vows, vowing to deliver all sentient beings. I now offer praise.

【English Translation】 English version I prostrate with utmost sincerity.
The fundamental secret mudra (hand gesture): Cross the hands inward, keep the wrists slightly apart, open about three or two inches, moving the Zen wisdom hand gesture back and forth.
The great mantra says:
na mo bhā ga va te bhai ṣai jya (Homage to the Bhagavan (World-Honored One), Bhaisajya (Medicine Master)) gu ru vai ṭu rya pra bhā rā (Lapis Lazuli Light) ja ya ta thā ga tā yā rha te (Tathagata (Thus Come One), Arhat (Worthy of Offerings)) sa myaḥ ksaṃ bu ddhā ya ta dya thā (Perfectly Enlightened One, declares) oṃ bhai ṣai jye bhai ṣai jye (Oṃ, Medicine, Medicine) bhai ṣai jya sa ma dga te (Medicine, Accomplishment) svā hā (So be it)

【English Translation】 English version Verse on Celebration (Thirteenth Section)
Therefore, for the sake of the principal deity (the main deity being venerated), recite the mantra (true words) from seven to one hundred and eight times, then scatter the mudra (hand gesture) on the crown of the head. State the wishes of the heart, before that principal deity, hoping that they will look upon you with compassion, eliminate disasters, and remove untimely death. Next, take the rosary (prayer beads), place it flat within both palms, bless it seven times, then hold the beads and place them on the crown of the head.
The mantra is:
Om Vajra Guhya Japa Samaye Hum
Because of the blessing of this mantra and mudra, bless the rosary, starting from the mother bead (the largest bead in the rosary), turning one bead per recitation. When the last word of the mantra is finished, return to the mother bead but turn back. One should not cross over the mother bead; rashly crossing over it is a sin against the Dharma. Extensively teach eighteen thousand times, or briefly recite one hundred and eight times. Once the limited number is completed, hold the beads again and bless them. State the things being requested, and with a sincere heart, universally dedicate the merit.
This Dharma mudra and mantra, if good men and good women, etc., have many obstacles and difficulties, all kinds of illnesses, the misfortune of difficult childbirth for women, hoping to turn misfortune into blessings, and those suffering from ghost and spirit illnesses that are difficult to cure, use five-colored threads twisted into a rope, chant the mantra and tie it around the patient's neck, hands, feet, waist, abdomen, etc. It is still necessary to invite seven monks, establish a mandala, create an image of the principal deity, transcribe the 'Bhaisajyaguru Sutra', practice the Way six times a day, light seven-tiered lamps, make five-colored banners forty-nine feet long, turn the sutra forty-nine times a day, release forty-nine aquatic and terrestrial creatures, and diligently offer seasonal flowers and fruits. Chant the mantra to bless the five-colored threads and make vows, and also press the mudra on the threads, then chant the mantra forty-nine more times, tie forty-nine knots, and then recite this mantra. The mantra for blessing is:

Again, praise and prostrate to the principal deity, form the principal deity's secret mudra, recite the mantra seven times, offer arghya water again, make offerings as before, form the Buddhosnisa mudra for accomplishing tasks, recite the vidya mantra three times, rotate counterclockwise to dissolve the boundary, send off the holy assembly, form the welcoming mudra as before, turn the two wheels outward, imagine in the empty space, returning to the Pure Land, residing peacefully in the jeweled palace.
