如是我聞。一時世尊。在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。與大苾芻眾千二百五十人俱。皆是漏盡意解無復煩惱。逮得己利心善解脫。眾所知識大阿羅漢。復有智慧廣大功德。莊嚴威儀具足諸尊。菩薩摩訶薩等。為聞法故皆悉來集。于眾會中有大慧妙吉祥菩薩摩訶薩而為上首。爾時釋迦牟尼佛。愍念未來世中一切短命眾生。令增壽命得大利益。為說不可思議秘密甚深微妙勝法。是時。

世尊告大慧妙吉祥菩薩言。汝等諦聽。從是南閻浮提。西方過無量佛土。有世界名無量功德藏。國土嚴麗眾寶間飾。清凈殊勝安隱快樂。超過十方微妙第一。于彼無量功德藏世界之中。有佛名無量壽決定光明王如來無上正等菩提。今現住彼世界之中。起大慈悲為諸眾生演說妙法。令獲殊勝利益安樂。

佛復告妙吉祥菩薩言。今此閻浮提世界中人壽命百歲。于中多有造諸惡業而復中夭。妙吉祥菩薩若有眾生。得見此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。功德殊勝及聞名號

世尊告訴大慧妙吉祥菩薩說:『你們仔細聽好。從這南閻浮提(Jambudvipa,我們所居住的這個世界)向西,經過無量數的佛土,有一個世界名為無量功德藏(Amitagunadhara)。那個國土莊嚴美麗,用各種珍寶裝飾,清凈殊勝,安穩快樂,超過十方世界,微妙第一。在那無量功德藏世界中,有一尊佛名為無量壽決定光明王如來(Amitayus-Niyata-Prabha-Raja-Tathagata),證得了無上正等菩提。現在正住在那個世界中,以大慈悲心為眾生演說妙法,使他們獲得殊勝的利益和安樂。』

佛又告訴妙吉祥菩薩說:『現在這閻浮提世界中的人,壽命大約一百歲。其中很多人造作各種惡業,因而中年夭折。妙吉祥菩薩,如果有眾生能夠見到這部《無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經》,功德非常殊勝,或者聽聞到這部經的名字』

The Dharani Sutra of the Buddha on the Great Vehicle of the Holy Immeasurable Life, the King of Determined Light, the Tathagata

Thus have I heard. At one time, the World Honored One was in Jeta Grove in Shravasti, together with a great assembly of twelve hundred and fifty Bhikshus. All were Arhats who had exhausted their outflows, whose minds were liberated, who were free from afflictions, who had attained their own benefit, whose minds were well liberated, and who were known by the assembly. There were also great and wise Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, adorned with merit and virtue, complete with dignified conduct, and other venerable ones, who had all gathered to hear the Dharma. In the assembly, the foremost was the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Great Wisdom Wondrous Auspiciousness (Mahamati-Manjushri). At that time, Shakyamuni Buddha, out of compassion for all short-lived beings in the future world, so that they might increase their lifespan and obtain great benefit, spoke this inconceivable, secret, profound, subtle, and supreme Dharma. At that time,

The World Honored One said to the Bodhisattva Great Wisdom Wondrous Auspiciousness: 'You should listen attentively. From this Jambudvipa (Southern Jambudvipa, the world we live in), westward, passing through immeasurable Buddha lands, there is a world named Immeasurable Treasury of Merit (Amitagunadhara). That land is adorned with splendor, decorated with various jewels, pure and supreme, peaceful and joyful, surpassing the ten directions, the most subtle and excellent. In that world of the Immeasurable Treasury of Merit, there is a Buddha named Immeasurable Life, the King of Determined Light, the Tathagata (Amitayus-Niyata-Prabha-Raja-Tathagata), who has attained Anuttara-Samyak-Sambodhi (unsurpassed, right and perfect enlightenment). He now dwells in that world, and with great compassion, expounds the wonderful Dharma for all beings, enabling them to obtain supreme benefit and happiness.'

The Buddha further said to the Bodhisattva Wondrous Auspiciousness: 'Now, in this world of Jambudvipa, people's lifespans are about one hundred years. Among them, many create various evil karmas and die prematurely. Wondrous Auspiciousness, if there are beings who can see this Dharani Sutra of the Immeasurable Life, the King of Determined Light, the Tathagata, the merit is extremely supreme, or if they hear the name of this sutra.'


。若自書寫若教他人書是經竟。或於自舍宅或於高樓。或安精舍殿堂之中。受持讀誦遵奉禮拜。種種妙華燒香粖香。涂香華鬘等。供養無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。如是短壽之人。若能志心書寫受持。讀誦供養禮拜。如是之人復增壽命滿於百歲。

複次妙吉祥菩薩。若有眾生聞是無量壽決定光明王如來名號。若能志心稱念一百八遍。如此短命眾生復增壽命。或但聞其名號。志心信受遵崇之者。是人亦得增益壽命。

複次妙吉祥菩薩。若有恒時心無暫舍。志誠思求妙法。善男子善女人等汝應諦聽。我今為說無量壽決定光明王如來一百八名陀羅尼曰。

妙吉祥菩薩。此無量壽決

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本:如果親自書寫或教他人書寫這部經書完畢,或在自己的住宅,或在高樓,或安放在精舍殿堂之中,受持讀誦,遵奉禮拜,用各種美妙的鮮花、燒香、粖香、涂香、花鬘等,供養《無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經》。如此短壽之人,如果能夠真心誠意地書寫、受持、讀誦、供養、禮拜,這樣的人就能增加壽命,活到一百歲。

其次,妙吉祥菩薩(Manjushri Bodhisattva)。如果有眾生聽聞《無量壽決定光明王如來》(Amitayus-Nirdharita-Tejoraja Tathagata)的名號,如果能夠真心誠意地稱念一百零八遍,如此短命的眾生就能增加壽命。或者僅僅聽聞他的名號,真心誠意地信受、遵崇的人,這個人也能得到增益壽命。

妙吉祥菩薩(Manjushri Bodhisattva),這《無量壽決

【English Translation】 English version: If one personally writes or instructs others to write this sutra completely, or in one's own residence, or in a high building, or places it in a pure abode, a hall, or a temple, and upholds, recites, reveres, and worships it, offering various exquisite flowers, incense, powdered incense, scented ointment, garlands, etc., to the 'Amitayus-Nirdharita-Tejoraja Tathagata Dharani Sutra', such a person with a short lifespan, if able to wholeheartedly write, uphold, recite, offer, and worship it, will have their lifespan extended to a full hundred years.

Furthermore, Manjushri Bodhisattva. If there are sentient beings who hear the name of 'Amitayus-Nirdharita-Tejoraja Tathagata', and if they can wholeheartedly recite it one hundred and eight times, such short-lived beings will have their lifespan extended. Or, merely hearing his name and wholeheartedly believing in and revering him, that person will also gain an increase in lifespan.

Furthermore, Manjushri Bodhisattva. If there are good men and good women who constantly, without a moment's abandonment in their hearts, sincerely seek the wonderful Dharma, you should listen carefully. I will now speak for you the 'Amitayus-Nirdharita-Tejoraja Tathagata' one hundred and eight names Dharani, which is as follows:

Namo Bhagavate Aparimitayur-jnana-su-viniscita-tejo-rajaya Tathagataya Arhate Samyak-sambuddhaya Tadyatha Om Sarva Samskara Pari-suddha Dharmate Gagana Samudgate Svabhava Visuddhe Maha-naya Pari-vare Svaha.

If someone personally writes or teaches others to write this dharani (陀羅尼, a type of mantra or incantation), and places it on a high tower or in a clean place within a temple, adorns it properly, and makes various offerings, a person with a short lifespan can obtain longevity and live to a hundred years. Such a person, upon death, will be reborn in the Buddha-field of Amitayus-niyata-prabha-raja-tathagata (無量壽決定光明王如來), in the world of the Treasury of Immeasurable Merits. When Sakyamuni Buddha (釋迦牟尼佛) was expounding this 'Amitayus-niyata-prabha-raja-tathagata Dharani Sutra,' ninety-nine kotis (俱胝, a unit of measurement in India, one koti equals ten million) of Buddhas, with one mind and voice, also expounded this 'Amitayus-niyata-prabha-raja-tathagata Dharani Sutra.' At that time, there were also eighty-four kotis of Buddhas, with one mind and voice, who also expounded this 'Amitayus-niyata-prabha-raja-tathagata Dharani Sutra.' At that time, there were also seventy-seven kotis of Buddhas, with one mind and voice, who also expounded this 'Amitayus-niyata-prabha-raja-tathagata Dharani Sutra.' 。不墮閻羅王界業道冥官。永不於是諸惡道中受其惡報。如是之人由是書寫此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經功德力故。於後一切生處。生生世世得宿命智。此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。若自書若教人書。如是之人則同書寫八萬四千法藏。所獲功德而無有異。此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。若復有人若自書若教人書。如是之人便同修建八萬四千寶塔。所獲功德而無有異。此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。若自書若教人書。如是之人若有五無間地獄之業。由是功德力故。其業皆悉消除。此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。若自書若教人書。如是之人不墮魔王及魔眷屬。不墮藥叉羅剎道中。不墮非橫死亡。永不受是諸惡果報。此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。若自書若教人書。如是之人臨命終時。有九十九俱胝佛。面現其前來迎是人。往生於彼佛國土中。汝等勿生疑惑。此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。若自書若教人書。如是之人當來永不受其女人之身。此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。若自書若教人書。如是之人常得東方彥達嚩主持國天王。南方矩伴拏主增長天王。西方大龍主廣目天王。北方大藥叉主多聞天王。密隱其身隨逐衛護。若復有人為於此經。能以少分財寶佈施之者。是人便同以三千大千世

【English Translation】 English version: Will not fall into the karmic paths and underworld officials of Yama's realm, and will never suffer evil retribution in these evil realms. Such a person, due to the meritorious power of writing this 'Amitayus-determined-light-king-tathagata Dharani Sutra', will attain knowledge of past lives in all future rebirths, life after life. If one personally writes or teaches others to write this 'Amitayus-determined-light-king-tathagata Dharani Sutra', such a person is equivalent to writing eighty-four thousand Dharma treasures, and the merits obtained are no different. If someone personally writes or teaches others to write this 'Amitayus-determined-light-king-tathagata Dharani Sutra', such a person is equivalent to building eighty-four thousand precious stupas, and the merits obtained are no different. If one personally writes or teaches others to write this 'Amitayus-determined-light-king-tathagata Dharani Sutra', even if such a person has the karma of the five unremitting hells, due to the meritorious power of this sutra, all their karma will be eliminated. If one personally writes or teaches others to write this 'Amitayus-determined-light-king-tathagata Dharani Sutra', such a person will not fall into the realm of Mara and Mara's retinue, will not fall into the Yaksha and Rakshasa paths, will not suffer untimely death, and will never endure these evil consequences. If one personally writes or teaches others to write this 'Amitayus-determined-light-king-tathagata Dharani Sutra', at the time of their death, ninety-nine kotis of Buddhas will appear before them to welcome them, and they will be reborn in those Buddhas' lands. Do not harbor doubts. If one personally writes or teaches others to write this 'Amitayus-determined-light-king-tathagata Dharani Sutra', such a person will never again receive a woman's body in the future. If one personally writes or teaches others to write this 'Amitayus-determined-light-king-tathagata Dharani Sutra', such a person will always be secretly protected by Dhritarashtra, the Eastern Gandharva King; Virudhaka, the Southern Kumbhanda King; Virupaksha, the Western Great Dragon King; and Vaishravana, the Northern Great Yaksha King, who will conceal their bodies and follow to guard them. If someone, for the sake of this sutra, can give even a small amount of wealth in charity, that person is equivalent to using the three thousand great thousand worlds


界滿中。金銀琉璃硨磲瑪瑙珊瑚琥珀。如是七寶盡持佈施。若復有人供養此經典者。便同供養一切真實法藏。若復有人能持上妙七寶。供養毗婆尸。試棄。毗舍浮。俱留孫。揭諾揭牟尼。迦設波。釋迦牟尼如來應正等覺。所獲福德不能度量知其數量。若復有人供養此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。所獲福德亦復不能度量知其限量。又如四大海水充滿其中。不能得知一一滴數。若復有人書寫供養。受持讀誦此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。所獲福德亦復不能度量知其限數。若復有人書寫是無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。處所地位則是成就諸佛真身舍利寶塔。應尊重禮拜。若有眾生耳聞此陀羅尼者。此之眾生永不受飛鳥四足多足異類之身。當來速得成就不退轉無上正等菩提。若復有人。積聚金銀琉璃硨磲瑪瑙珊瑚琥珀。如是七寶如妙高山王盡能舍施。所獲福德不可度量知其數量。若復有人為此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。而能佈施之者。所得福德亦復不能度量知其限數。若復有人書寫此無量壽決定光明王如來陀羅尼經。禮拜供養者。如是之人則為禮拜供養十方諸佛剎土一切如來。而無有異。

爾時釋迦牟尼世尊。說彼伽他曰。

修行佈施力成就  佈施力故得成佛  若入大悲精室中  耳暫聞此陀

【English Translation】 English version: Filled throughout the world. If someone uses gold, silver, lapis lazuli, tridacna (a kind of sea clam), agate, coral, and amber—these seven treasures—for almsgiving, and another person makes offerings to this scripture, then the person making offerings to the scripture is equivalent to making offerings to all the true Dharma treasures. If someone can use excellent seven treasures to make offerings to Vipasyin (one of the past seven Buddhas), Sikhin (one of the past seven Buddhas), Visvabhu (one of the past seven Buddhas), Krakucchanda (one of the past seven Buddhas), Kanakamuni (one of the past seven Buddhas), Kasyapa (one of the past seven Buddhas), and Sakyamuni Buddha, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, the merit obtained cannot be measured, and its quantity cannot be known. If someone makes offerings to this 'Immeasurable Life, Determination of Light King Tathagata Dharani Sutra', the merit obtained also cannot be measured, and its quantity cannot be known. Furthermore, just as the four great seas are filled within, the number of each drop cannot be known. If someone writes, makes offerings to, upholds, and recites this 'Immeasurable Life, Determination of Light King Tathagata Dharani Sutra', the merit obtained also cannot be measured, and its limit cannot be known. If someone writes this 'Immeasurable Life, Determination of Light King Tathagata Dharani Sutra', the place is equivalent to accomplishing the precious stupa of the true body relics of all Buddhas, and should be respected and worshiped. If there are sentient beings who hear this dharani, these sentient beings will never be reborn into the bodies of birds, four-legged animals, multi-legged animals, or other different kinds. In the future, they will quickly achieve non-retrogressive Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. If someone accumulates gold, silver, lapis lazuli, tridacna, agate, coral, and amber—these seven treasures—as much as Mount Sumeru, and gives them all away in alms, the merit obtained cannot be measured, and its quantity cannot be known. If someone is able to give alms for this 'Immeasurable Life, Determination of Light King Tathagata Dharani Sutra', the merit obtained also cannot be measured, and its limit cannot be known. If someone writes this 'Immeasurable Life, Determination of Light King Tathagata Dharani Sutra' and worships and makes offerings to it, such a person is equivalent to worshiping and making offerings to all the Tathagatas in the Buddha lands of the ten directions, without any difference. At that time, Shakyamuni Buddha spoke this gatha: The power of practicing almsgiving is accomplished; because of the power of almsgiving, one attains Buddhahood. Through the power of practicing patience, one achieves accomplishment; through the power of patience, one attains Buddhahood. If one enters a chamber filled with great compassion and hears this Dharani (a sacred utterance or mantra) even briefly, Even if patience is not yet complete, this person will quickly attain the Teacher of Gods and Humans (referring to the Buddha or a spiritual guide). Through the power of practicing diligence, one achieves accomplishment; through the power of diligence, one attains Buddhahood. If one enters a chamber filled with great compassion and hears this Dharani (a sacred utterance or mantra) even briefly, Even if diligence is not yet complete, this person will quickly attain the Teacher of Gods and Humans (referring to the Buddha or a spiritual guide). Through the power of practicing meditation, one achieves accomplishment; through the power of meditation, one attains Buddhahood. If one enters a chamber filled with great compassion and hears this Dharani (a sacred utterance or mantra) even briefly, Even if meditation is not yet complete, this person will quickly attain the Teacher of Gods and Humans (referring to the Buddha or a spiritual guide). Through the power of practicing wisdom, one achieves accomplishment; through the power of wisdom, one attains Buddhahood. If one enters a chamber filled with great compassion and hears this Dharani (a sacred utterance or mantra) even briefly, Even if wisdom is not yet complete, this person will quickly attain the Teacher of Gods and Humans (referring to the Buddha or a spiritual guide). After the Buddha finished speaking this Sutra, all the great Bhikshus (monks), Bodhisattvas, and all beings in the world, including Devas (gods), Asuras (demons), Gandharvas (celestial musicians), and others, hearing what the Buddha had said, were greatly delighted, accepted it with faith, and practiced accordingly.
