'The Initiation Ritual of the Great Mandala of the Crown Wheel King' (Collected by the Shramana bu ṇi ka Auspicious of Shengshan Temple in Dongdu, with depictions of the Vajradhatu Mandala) In the inner courtyard, within the Samaya boundary of the central platform courtyard, a painting depicts the World Honored One Buddha seated on a lion throne. The throne is adorned with various treasures. The Holy One sits upon a white lotus flower, with a body of white-gold color, entering the supreme Samadhi King aspect. He sits in the lotus position, making the gesture of teaching the Dharma. From his entire body emanate twelve golden wheels of blazing light, surrounding him like wheels. From here, in the four corners of the fifth food path courtyard, draw five ancient vajra pestles, symbolizing the fierce appearance of flames.

The above are the holy beings on the upper altar in the Mandala Wheel King Great Abhisheka Ritual. A total of one hundred and twenty-two honored names.

The Acharya (teacher) and disciples, during the Abhisheka (initiation), should, beside the great mandala and facing the holy assembly, separately paint a mandala. Use white powder mixed with elbow measurements. Universally draw a lotus flower in the center. On the central platform, draw a lion throne. Have the disciple receiving the Abhisheka sit on it. Have a disciple who understands the Dharma hold a canopy and whisk, chanting auspicious praises slowly and continuously. Take water from the central vase, bless it one hundred and eight times. Teach the disciple to form the Buddha-crown mudra and place it on the crown of their head (the rest is explained in detail in the Abhisheka ritual). Then, it is necessary to blow conches, beat drums, and make various kinds of music.

I will now, according to the scripture, describe the method of painting the Wheel King: Those nearby who possess all the streams (of knowledge), only then can the practice be performed. As described extensively in the scripture, white cotton cloth must be square. Five cubits or three cubits.

To paint the image of the holy being, first, from the great ocean, emerges Mount Sumeru, made of four treasures (first, gold in the north, silver in the east, lapis lazuli color in the south, and red crystal color in the west). On the mountain sits a white lotus flower. The body is white-golden. He is in the Samadhi of the Supreme King, seated in the lotus position. From his entire body, twelve golden wheels of blazing light emanate. Above, one should paint mountain peaks. The peaks are made of various treasures. From the crown of the holy being's head, various lights flow out, blue, yellow, red, and white, rotating freely. On the right side of the holy being, paint a person holding a censer, gazing at the face of the Tathagata. Below, one should paint a lotus pond (the rest is as described in the scripture). Paint two great Vidyarajas (Wisdom Kings), whose appearances will be described later. The honored appearance of Hayagriva (Horse-headed Vidyaraja).

五支先布已次說瑜伽相。

Visualize the syllable 'Vi' at the navel, its color white, representing the water of compassion, which is the meaning of Samadhi (meditation). This mandala is circular in shape, with the outer circle like a full moon. Visualize the syllable 'Ra' in the heart, its color red, representing the meaning of wisdom. This mandala is triangular in shape, and the outer circle is also triangular. Visualize the syllable 'Hum' between the eyebrows, its color black, representing the unobstructed wind, which is the meaning of liberation. This mandala is visualized as blue, shaped like a crescent moon, and the outer circle is the same shape. Place the syllable 'Kham' on the crown of the head to accomplish the great void point, which is the meaning of the knowledge and vision of liberation.

This mandala, as the meaning of the syllables indicates, the void point has no color and can accomplish all endeavors, which is the meaning of Dharani.

Om! Sukshma Vajra (meaning subtle like a diamond. This Dharani can cause the visualized object to be accomplished).

Om! Tishtha Vajra (meaning immovable like a diamond. This Dharani can prevent the visualized object from being lost).

Om! Sphara Vajra (meaning pervasive like a diamond. This Dharani can cause the visualized object to gradually expand, its measure pervading the Dharma realm).

Om! Samhara Vajra (meaning comprehending like a diamond. This Dharani can cause the visualized object to gradually contract, like the tip of a hair, residing between the white hair, or residing on the tip of the nose, as desired).

Next, describe the painting. Subahu Kumara (Subahu Child), his form and retinue, the honored body is like the form of a child, the color of gold like his name. Respectfully depict his honored appearance, surrounded by the seven luminaries (seven celestial bodies). Mimoyunmo, Hongwumo, Naqiejigai, each depicted according to their original forms. Residing on the side of Hayagriva Vidyaraja (Hayagriva the Knowledge King), standing on a flower.
