爾時觀自在菩薩摩訶薩。白佛言。世尊我欲於此降三世儀軌法王會中說自心真言。世尊若才稱說一切如來。三昧現前一切怖畏厄難災障。及諸病惱皆得消滅。

爾時薄伽梵。告觀自在菩薩言。善哉善哉汝應善說。時觀自在菩薩摩訶薩。承佛聖旨即說自心真言曰。

阿嚕禮迦(半)娑嚩(二合引)賀(引)

適說此心真言時。一切如來從本剎土。雲集蘇迷盧頂毗盧遮那大會之中。圍繞觀自在菩薩摩訶薩復說自心真言大曼拏攞。

The Vajratopama-trailokyavijaya-kalparaja-tantra Teaching on the Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Heart Mantra, the Lotus Mandala of All Tathagatas, one fascicle.

Translated by the Tripitaka Master Bukong (Amoghavajra, 不空), of the Da Guang Zhi Da Xing Shan Temple, who was appointed as the Minister of Ceremony with the title of Duke of Su, granted the honor of purple robe, posthumously awarded the title of Sikong and the posthumous title of Dajian, with the honorary title of Da Guang Zhi, by imperial decree.

At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Mahāsattva ( महान् बोधिसत्त्व, Great Bodhisattva) said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, I wish to speak my heart mantra in this assembly of the Vajratopama-trailokyavijaya-kalparaja-tantra. World Honored One, if one recites it, the Samadhi ( समाधि, concentration) of all Tathagatas will manifest, and all fears, calamities, disasters, and illnesses will be extinguished.'

Then, Bhagavan ( भगवान्, the Blessed One) said to Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva: 'Excellent, excellent, you should speak it well.' Then, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Mahāsattva, receiving the Buddha's decree, immediately spoke his heart mantra:

Arurika Svaha (स्वाहा)

When this heart mantra was spoken, all the Tathagatas gathered from their respective Buddha-kshetra ( बुद्धक्षेत्र, Buddha-fields) to the assembly of Vairocana ( वैरोचन, the Illuminator) on the summit of Sumeru ( सुमेरु, Mount Meru), surrounding Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Mahāsattva, and spoke the great Mandala ( मण्डल, sacred enclosure) of his heart mantra:

The courtyard is divided and arranged, with four corners and four gates inside. Measure well the very center, and arrange the four paths in a well shape. Manifesting into eight positions, divided into eight-petaled flowers. This color should use vermilion, with Avalokiteśvara in the central platform. On each of those petals, draw the form of the Great Awakened One. The central courtyard has no gate, with eight lines of paths inside and outside. Once the subtle establishment is complete, the Acharya ( आचार्य, teacher) should enter. Corresponding to the Mandala, form the Great Lotus Mudra. 心真言蓮花曼拏攞品

復以如前建立曼拏攞。應取一千蓮花。一花一誦安中臺以為奉獻。然後引弟子入告三昧耶言(謂諸欲清凈誓也)。

羯磨曼拏攞品

複次如前建立曼拏攞。以四種供養。複次成就像法。于清凈絹㲲上。畫觀自在菩薩。坐蘇彌盧頂八佛圍繞。起白月一日於此像前。一切時無間斷入三摩地念誦

May all sentient beings enter this Mandala (mandala, sacred enclosure).

Though dwelling in the position of ordinary beings, the sins and defilements of greed and anger are extinguished.

Just as the lotus flower is not stained by water,

So too, the superior being is not tainted by desires.

The Acharya (āchārya, teacher) then makes the Great Lotus Mudra (hand gesture). Bending the force-advancing finger like a hook. Inviting Avalokiteśvara (the Bodhisattva of Compassion). The Lotus Hook Mantra (sacred utterance) says:

Om (ōng) Maha (mó hē) (elongated) Padma (bǒ nà mó) (combined) Hum Jah (hōng rě)

Immediately, Avalokiteśvara (the Bodhisattva of Compassion) arrives at the altar, manifesting a subtle and wondrous form, or emitting light. The Acharya (āchārya, teacher) should then guide the disciples in according with the Dharma. These disciples should wear white robes, and cover their garments with white silk. Also, they should wrap their heads with clean white cloth. Having guided them in, he speaks this verse:

Just as the lotus flower is not stained by water,

So too, the superior being is not tainted by all desires.

Then, the lotus flower should be given to the disciple in the left hand, and prayer beads in the right hand. And he speaks this verse:

The Great Lotus of all Buddhas, among all Mandalas (mandala, sacred enclosure),

Is the most supreme. One should always contemplate and discern it.

Devote body and mind to Avalokiteśvara (the Bodhisattva of Compassion).

Then, teach the Mudra (hand gesture) and the Samadhi (samādhi, meditative absorption) gate.

The Chapter on the Heart Mantra Lotus Mandala (mandala, sacred enclosure)

Furthermore, establish the Mandala (mandala, sacred enclosure) as before. The practitioner should sit upon the central platform, entering the Samadhi (samādhi, meditative absorption) of the blossoming lotus of all Tathagatas (Buddhas). Reciting one hundred thousand times, one will attain the body of Avalokiteśvara (the Bodhisattva of Compassion).

The Chapter on the Heart Mantra Samaya (samaya, vow) Mandala (mandala, sacred enclosure)

Again, establish the Mandala (mandala, sacred enclosure) as before. One should take one thousand lotus flowers, reciting a mantra with each flower, placing them on the central platform as an offering. Then, guide the disciples in, and declare the Samaya (samaya, vow) words (referring to the vow of purity from all desires).

The Karma (karma, action) Mandala (mandala, sacred enclosure) Chapter

Furthermore, establish the Mandala (mandala, sacred enclosure) as before, with four kinds of offerings. Furthermore, accomplish the Dharma-image method. On clean silk, paint Avalokiteśvara (the Bodhisattva of Compassion), seated atop Mount Sumeru (Sumeru, the central world-mountain), surrounded by eight Buddhas. Starting from the first day of the white moon, in front of this image, at all times without interruption, enter Samadhi (samādhi, meditative absorption) and recite.


。乃至畫像放光。于光明中流出觀自在菩薩及諸如來。入行者眉間灌頂之處。堅固而住。即時行者體同觀自在。剎那頃便見極樂世界。一切眾生皆見去時壽命無量。

我今又說成就之法。誦一洛叉。一切蓋障皆得清凈。誦二洛叉。所有五無間等一切諸罪盡滅無餘。誦三洛叉。一切福德來集。一切如來等備具。一切成智現前。

複次若結大印(謂五相成就)誦洛叉數。經夜無限唸誦。比至晨朝一切如來入行者心。即體同如來。若入于口即體同觀自在。

【English Translation】 English version: Even the painted image emits light. Within that light, Avalokiteśvara (the Bodhisattva of Compassion) and all the Tathagatas (Buddhas) emerge, entering the practitioner's brow chakra (the point of initiation), firmly abiding there. Immediately, the practitioner's body becomes identical to Avalokiteśvara. In an instant, one sees Sukhavati (the Pure Land of Bliss). All beings see that when this person departs, their lifespan is immeasurable.

Now, I will speak again of the method of accomplishment. Recite one lakh (100,000 times), and all obscurations will be purified. Recite two lakhs (200,000 times), and all sins, including the five Panca-anantariya (the five heinous crimes), will be completely eradicated without remainder. Recite three lakhs (300,000 times), and all merits will gather, all the Tathagatas will be fully present, and Sarvajna (omniscience) will manifest.

Furthermore, if one forms the great Mudra (hand gesture) (that is, the accomplishment of the five aspects) and recites a lakh of times, reciting limitlessly throughout the night, by morning all the Tathagatas will enter the practitioner's heart, and the body will become identical to the Tathagatas. If it enters the mouth, the body becomes identical to Avalokiteśvara.

Furthermore, for accomplishing activities: recite the mantra once for self-protection, twice for the protection of others and cities and villages, and three times to accomplish all activities. If Avesha (possession) is desired, burn sandalwood (Santalum album, a type of fragrant wood) (empower it by reciting 800 times and burn it in a brazier, using the smoke to fumigate the limbs). If you want to subdue ghosts and demons, add the syllable 'Hrih' and recite it, causing all Sattvas (sentient beings) to be obedient. Empower Vajra flowers (Vajra flower, indestructible flower) and give them to the person (if there are no Vajra flowers, use red flowers instead), preventing evil thoughts from arising. Subdue it with white earth (add the name of the person written in cinnabar to the beginning of the mantra, then roll it up and place it in a bottle, fill it with white earth, place it in a pit, then fill it with earth, visualizing that the place where the bottle is located is Mount Sumeru (Sumeru, the center of the universe), placing it there, above and below is also fine). 合掌以二水二風交地空各開豎。二火相合是根本印。芙蓉合掌是為大蓮花印。不易大蓮花開豎地空。是禳奪諸罪印。又外叉金剛縛。合二風如蓮花葉。二空豎相逼是三昧印。又分二手作蓮花拳。便以慧拳旋繞定拳。作開八葉勢是羯磨印(請如來)呬唎(二合)字觀於心月蓮。是法印。觀諸法如蓮花不著於水。諸法亦然不染欲等。是智印。蓮花阿阇梨。欲授弟子阿阇梨位。以蓮花授與弟子二掌中。又加持蓮花鬘一千八遍。系弟子頭上。加持。

由是得為蓮花部中阿阇梨。我今說蓮花部修行禁戒儀。則先供養觀自在菩薩。應服一掬遇牟怛啰若少分摩夷。即一切清凈。然觀自身作觀自在菩薩。日誦一千遍乃至七日。禁戒得成就。從此已后一切食一切處作。皆不為污染。我今說普通一切供養儀。則二手為金剛拳。各安於腰側。向左小低頭。是為恭敬禮。又二手從額分向後系鬘勢。歷度下垂帶。是為獻花鬘。又二手從於臍漸上至口寫。是為獻

【English Translation】 English version: Offerings to Avalokiteśvara (Guānzìzài Púsà, the Bodhisattva of Compassion). Chapter on Mudras

Join the palms together, cross the two water fingers and two wind fingers pointing to the ground, and open and erect the two space fingers separately. The two fire fingers joined together form the fundamental mudra. The lotus-like joined palms form the great lotus mudra. Maintaining the great lotus mudra, opening and erecting the earth and space fingers, this is the mudra for dispelling all sins. Alternatively, externally bind the vajra bind, join the two wind fingers like lotus leaves, and the two space fingers stand close together, this is the samadhi mudra. Or, separate the two hands to form lotus fists, then use the wisdom fist to revolve around the meditation fist, making the gesture of opening eight petals, this is the karma mudra (for inviting the Tathagata). Visualize the syllable 'Hrih (hē lī, seed syllable)' on the lotus in the moon of the heart, this is the dharma mudra. The lotus acharya (āchá梨, teacher), wishing to confer the position of acharya to a disciple, gives a lotus flower to the disciple in both palms, and then blesses a lotus garland one thousand and eight times, tying it on the disciple's head, and blesses it.

The mantra says:

Om (ōng, prolonged) Padma (bō nà me, conjunct) Mala (mā, prolonged) Bhisinca Lokeśvara (bì shěn zuǒ lù, prolonged) Jitasva (jì shī pó, conjunct) Rasusa

By this, one can become an acharya in the Lotus family. I will now speak of the precepts and rituals for practicing in the Lotus family. First, one should make offerings to Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva. One should take a handful of Mutra (yù móu dá là, cow urine) or a small amount of Mayi (mó yí, feces), and then everything will be purified. Then, visualize oneself transforming into Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, reciting one thousand times each day, even for seven days, and the precepts will be accomplished. From then on, all food and all actions will not be defiled. I will now speak of the common offering rituals. Make the vajra fists with both hands, placing them on either side of the waist, and slightly lower the head to the left, this is the respectful salutation. 【English Translation】 English version: Singing. Then, with both hands starting from the mouth, following the order of Dana-Prajna (wisdom), gradually unfold, rotating towards the top of the head, and hollowly join the palms. This is offering the Vajra Dance. By offering to the Tathagata (Thus Come One) in this way, attaining the position is not difficult, let alone other Siddhis (accomplishments). Why? Because all pleasures are not comparable to Vajrasattva (Diamond Being).
