【English Translation】 English version The Six-Syllable Great Dhāraṇī Mantra Sūtra
(Translator unknown, now appended to the Liang Record)
Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan (Bhagavan, World-Honored One) was dwelling in Rājagṛha (Royal City), on Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa (Vulture Peak), together with a great assembly of five hundred Bhikṣus (monks). At that time, the Elder Ānanda (Ānanda) was controlled by the mantra of a Caṇḍālī (outcaste woman). At that time, the Elder Ānanda said to the Buddha: 『World-Honored One, I am now being forcibly taken away by another. Bhagavan, I am now being forcibly taken away by another, Sugata (Well-Gone).』
At that time, the Bhagavan said to the Elder Ānanda: 『Come, Ānanda, do not be alarmed or afraid. Ānanda, you should receive and uphold the Six-Syllable Great Dhāraṇī Mantra, for the sake of benefiting, securing peace, happiness, and auspicious practice for the four assemblies (Bhikṣus, Bhikṣuṇīs, Upāsakas, Upāsikās).』 Then He spoke the mantra:
Sī (xū hé fǎn) dì (chú lì fǎn) tī (tǔ jī fǎn) tán (tú gàn fǎn) ān (yú kē fǎn) chá (tú jià fǎn) lì bān chá (tú jià fǎn) lì gé luó chí (chú jì fǎn) jī yóu lì sā dì pó dì yé [shē-shì+mǐ] pó dì dǐ shé pó dì pín tóu mó dì
Ānanda, this mantra can quickly digest undigested food, eliminate diseases such as vomiting and diarrhea, eliminate wind disorders, heat disorders, cold disorders, and various mixed disorders, extinguish all evil mantras, extinguish corpses that rise, and extinguish all forms of image curses and gu poisons. Ānanda, if someone knows the name of this divine mantra, then he will not fear the difficulty of kings, not fear the difficulty of enemies, not fear the difficulty of thieves, not fear the difficulty of fire, and not fear the difficulty of water. Whether in cities, villages, or in the wilderness, there is nothing to fear. He will also not be spied upon by others seeking his faults; there will be no faults to speak of. If he eats poison, the poison will not harm him but will instead turn into benefit.
Ānanda, this Six-Syllable Great Dhāraṇī Mantra was spoken by the past seven Samyak-saṃbuddhas (Perfectly Enlightened Buddhas), and also by Brahmā (Brahma) Sahampati (Lord of the Sahā World), Śakra devānām indra (Lord Śakra, King of the Gods), and the Four Great Heavenly Kings. They all rejoiced in it, and it can break all mantras, causing them to dissipate and be subdued.
