The Buddha Speaks the Great Protection Bright Dharani Sutra
Translated by Tripiṭaka Master Shramana Dharmadeva, bestowed with the Purple Robe, from Nalanda Monastery in Magadha, Central India, under Imperial Decree.
At that time, the World Honored One was staying in the Mallikasu settlement. Then, the World Honored One said to Venerable Ananda: 'Ananda, I now wish to go to the city of Vaishali.' Venerable Ananda said: 'As you wish, World Honored One, I am at your command.' Thereupon, the World Honored One and Ananda went to the city of Vaishali. After arriving at the Amra garden, the Buddha said to Ananda: 'Ananda, you may enter the city and choose an auspicious place. Take a stand in the Indrakila posture, with mindfulness, and recite this Great Protection Bright Dharani and the Gatha, which is as follows:'

The Buddhas of the past, present, and future, the Perfectly Enlightened Ones, having agreed with them, to deliver the world, all Buddhas, all Pratyekabuddhas, all Arhats, and Sravakas, all precepts, virtue, and power, all truthful words, even to the Great Brahma, the Lord of Kama, Indra and all the Devas, all Asuras, Asura messengers, even Bhutas, all agree.

The most honored among the heavens. Entering Vaishali (Vèishèlí, an ancient Indian city), Brahma (Fànwáng, the creator god), the lord of the world, and Indra (Tiāndìshì, king of the gods), along with the Four Guardian Kings (Hùshì sìwáng, the Four Heavenly Kings), also entered with countless thousands of celestial beings. Innumerable Asura Kings (Āsūluōwáng, non-gods) and their retinues also entered. Even countless thousands of Bhuta (Bùduōzhòng, ghost and spirit) retinues followed and entered, taking refuge in the World Honored One. Observing the arising of calamities and the spread of epidemics among all sentient beings, they perform the accomplishment practice to quickly dispel them and bring about peace and happiness. The mantra says:

如來正遍知者為於世間一切眾生。而來入此除災難處。以大慈大悲大喜大舍。說是真言成就伽陀。一切聖眾乃至部多等眾。而知此法于諸世間為最為上。若復不惜身命為於一切。息除疾疫破壞災難。增彼善心令得安樂。為彼世間說解脫道。說尊重法。為彼一切而作安樂。為度世師為諸世間而起慈心。安諸有情由如赤子。恒常隨逐一切眾生。由如燈明而增照燭。處輪迴者令得正道。諸法之智而不闕乏。言辭清凈與一切樂。彼彼生時生富貴家。得大無畏福業成就。彼所生地一切震動一切有情咸皆歡喜。彼菩提場六種震動。魔及魔民悉皆愁惱。謂彼牟尼當轉法輪說四聖諦以調伏法降彼外道。一切眾生必當作佛。安樂人天及天帝釋。乃至安樂一切部多眾等。於一切時使得見佛。得賢

如來正遍知者爲了世間一切眾生，來到這消除災難的地方，以大慈、大悲、大喜、大舍之心，宣說這成就伽陀（偈頌）的真言。一切聖眾乃至部多（鬼神）等眾，都知道此法在世間最為殊勝。若有人不惜身命，爲了息除一切疾疫，破壞災難，增長他們的善心，使他們得到安樂，爲了世間宣說解脫之道，宣說尊重之法，爲了他們一切而作安樂，爲了救度世間的導師，爲了諸世間而生起慈心，安頓一切有情眾生如同赤子一般。恒常隨順一切眾生，如同燈明一樣增加照亮。處於輪迴中的眾生，令他們得到正道。諸法的智慧而不缺乏，言辭清凈，給予一切快樂。他們每次出生時，都生在富貴之家，得到大無畏的福業成就。他們所出生的地方，一切震動，一切有情都歡喜。他們的菩提道場發生六種震動，魔及其眷屬都愁惱。說這位牟尼（釋迦牟尼佛）將要轉法輪，宣說四聖諦，以調伏之法降伏外道。一切眾生必定成佛，安樂人天以及天帝釋（因陀羅），乃至安樂一切部多（鬼神）眾等，在一切時都能見到佛，得到賢善。

The Tathagata (the Thus Come One), the Perfectly Enlightened One, comes to this place of eliminating calamities for the sake of all sentient beings in the world. With great loving-kindness, great compassion, great joy, and great equanimity, He speaks this true mantra that accomplishes the Gatha (verse). All the holy beings, even the Bhutas (spirits) and other beings, know that this Dharma is the most supreme in the world. If someone does not spare their life, in order to extinguish all diseases, destroy calamities, increase their good hearts, and bring them peace and happiness, for the sake of the world, they proclaim the path of liberation, proclaim the Dharma of respect, and bring peace and happiness for all of them. For the sake of the world's teachers of salvation, they generate loving-kindness for all the worlds, settling all sentient beings as if they were their own children. Constantly following all sentient beings, like a lamp increasing its illumination. For those in Samsara (cycle of rebirth), they lead them to the right path. The wisdom of all Dharmas is not lacking, their speech is pure, and they give all happiness. Each time they are born, they are born into wealthy and noble families, and they attain great fearlessness and the accomplishment of blessed karma. The place where they are born, everything shakes, and all sentient beings rejoice. Their Bodhi (enlightenment) field experiences six kinds of shaking, and the demons and their retinues are all distressed. It is said that this Muni (Shakyamuni Buddha) will turn the Dharma wheel, proclaim the Four Noble Truths, and subdue the heretics with the Dharma of taming. All sentient beings will surely become Buddhas, bringing peace and happiness to humans and Devas (gods), as well as Indra (the Lord of the Gods), and even bringing peace and happiness to all the Bhutas (spirits) and other beings, so that they can see the Buddha at all times and attain virtue.

【English Translation】 English version: Obtaining the Buddha's intention will bring immeasurable blessings. The things they seek will all be accomplished. Because of attaining Bodhi (enlightenment), they will find peace and happiness in the four paths. Furthermore, may all sentient beings, whether day or night, at noon, and in all places, be at peace. Even to the point that all moving sentient beings may be happy. Furthermore, may sentient beings not create evil karma and be able to see all the virtuous and noble ones. May the Bhutas (spirits) gather in the places where they live and in that space, and may they always protect sentient beings with compassion, abiding by the Dharma day and night, at all times. Then, the Venerable Ananda (one of the ten great disciples of the Buddha) said to the World Honored One: 'So it is, World Honored One, I now listen to your command.' Thereupon, Angira (name of a Buddha's disciple) had already eliminated disasters for sentient beings, dwelling in right mindfulness. He spoke this Great Protecting Brightness Dharani, accomplishing the Gatha (verse), saying: 'Visarada' (one) 'Visarada' (two) 'Visarada' (three) 'Visarada' (four) 'Visarada' (five) Past, present, and future, all Buddhas, with perfect and complete knowledge, may you have mercy and protect us. Countless sages, countless Asura Kings (Asura) and Asura hosts, and even countless Bhūta hosts, all behold the World-Honored One and express their allegiance, willing to eliminate calamities for all beings.

He is skilled in expounding the essential Dharma, his words are pure, and all ghosts and spirits bear witness to it. Moreover, they can obtain great fearlessness in every life, dwell in wealth and prosperity, have abundant resources, benefit all, attain the accomplishment of meaning, and attain the accomplishment of merit.
