爾時觀世音菩薩摩訶薩。白佛言世尊。是我前身不可思議福德因緣。今蒙世尊與我授記。欲令利益一切眾生起大悲心。能斷一切繫縛。能滅一切怖畏。一切眾生蒙此威神。悉離苦因獲安樂果。若有善男子善女人。於我滅后五百歲中。能于日夜六時依法。受持此陀羅尼神咒法門者。一切業障悉皆消滅。一切陀羅尼法悉皆成就。今我念報世尊恩德。隨在何等乃至村城國邑聚落。或在山野林間。我常隨逐擁護是人。不令一切神鬼之所嬈害。爾時觀世音菩薩。又白佛言世尊。后五百歲中眾生垢重。薄福者多不能專念。設有受者或被鬼神之所侵害。今我以佛威神之力。廣為饒益一切眾生。安樂天人阿修羅等。為說陀羅尼法。我於過去無量劫中。已曾親近供養如是陀羅尼法。乃至過去未來現在諸佛。皆因此陀羅尼法門。得成阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。若有善男子善女人等。專念受持此陀羅尼法門者。此人現世口說流利。無所質礙慧辯通達。於一切天人大眾中最為第一。聞者歡喜悉皆稽首。在所生處常得見佛法僧。有所言說人皆信受。當知此是諸佛威神之力非我自力

這時,觀世音菩薩摩訶薩(Mahāsattva, महानसत्त्व,偉大的菩薩)對佛說:『世尊,這是我前身不可思議的福德因緣,今日蒙受世尊為我授記。爲了利益一切眾生,生起大悲心,能夠斷除一切束縛,能夠滅除一切怖畏,一切眾生蒙受此威神之力,都能脫離痛苦之因,獲得安樂之果。若有善男子、善女人,在我滅度后五百歲中,能在日夜六時依法受持此陀羅尼(dhāraṇī,總持、真言)神咒法門,一切業障都將消滅,一切陀羅尼法都將成就。現在我念及報答世尊的恩德,無論在何處,乃至村莊、城市、國家、聚落,或在山野林間,我常隨侍擁護此人,不讓一切神鬼對其進行侵擾傷害。』

這時,觀世音菩薩又對佛說:『世尊,后五百歲中,眾生垢染深重,福薄之人很多,不能專心念誦。即使有人受持,也可能被鬼神所侵害。現在我以佛的威神之力,廣泛地饒益一切眾生,安樂天人、阿修羅(Asura,阿修羅,非天)等,為他們宣說陀羅尼法。我於過去無量劫中,已經曾經親近供養如是陀羅尼法,乃至過去、未來、現在諸佛,都因此陀羅尼法門,得成阿耨多羅三藐三菩提(anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi,無上正等正覺)。若有善男子、善女人等,專心念誦受持此陀羅尼法門,此人現世口才流利,沒有阻礙,智慧辯才通達,在一切天人大眾中最為第一。聽聞者歡喜,都稽首敬禮。在所生之處,常能得見佛法僧三寶。所說之話,人們都信服接受。應當知道這是諸佛的威神之力,並非我自身的力量。』

【English Translation】 English version The Dhāraṇī (dhāraṇī, 總持, 真言) Scripture of the Thousand-Eyed and Thousand-Armed Avalokiteśvara (Avalokiteśvara, 觀世音) Bodhisattva

Translated by Tripiṭaka (三藏) Master Zhìtōng of the Táng Dynasty's Zǒngchí Monastery

At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Mahāsattva (Mahāsattva, महानसत्त्व, Great Being) said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, this is due to the inconceivable meritorious causes and conditions of my past life. Today, I am honored to receive the prediction of enlightenment from the World Honored One. Wishing to benefit all sentient beings, I generate great compassion, capable of severing all bonds and eliminating all fears. May all sentient beings, through this majestic spiritual power, be liberated from the causes of suffering and attain the fruits of peace and happiness. If there are good men or good women who, within the five hundred years after my extinction, can uphold and maintain this Dhāraṇī mantra Dharma (Dharma, 法) door according to the Dharma at the six times of day and night, all karmic obstacles will be eliminated, and all Dhāraṇī Dharmas will be accomplished. Now, I remember and repay the kindness of the World Honored One. Wherever I am, even in villages, cities, countries, settlements, or in mountains and forests, I will always follow and protect this person, preventing all gods and ghosts from disturbing or harming them.'

At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva again said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, in the latter five hundred years, sentient beings will have heavy defilements, and many will have little merit and be unable to concentrate their minds. Even if there are those who uphold it, they may be harmed by ghosts and spirits. Now, with the power of the Buddha's majestic spirit, I will extensively benefit all sentient beings, bringing peace and happiness to devas (deva, 天), humans, asuras (Asura, 阿修羅, non-gods), and others, and will speak the Dhāraṇī Dharma for them. In the past countless kalpas (kalpa, 劫), I have already been close to and made offerings to such Dhāraṇī Dharmas. Even the Buddhas of the past, future, and present have all attained Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi (anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi, 無上正等正覺, unsurpassed, complete and perfect enlightenment) through this Dhāraṇī Dharma door. If there are good men or good women who single-mindedly uphold and maintain this Dhāraṇī Dharma door, this person will have fluent speech in this life, without obstruction, and will have wisdom, eloquence, and understanding, being the foremost among all devas and humans. Those who hear it will rejoice and bow their heads in reverence. In every place they are born, they will always be able to see the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha (Sangha, 僧, monastic community). What they say will be believed and accepted by people. Know that this is the power of the majestic spirit of all Buddhas, not my own power.'

【English Translation】 English version: At that time, the World Honored One praised Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, saying: 'Excellent, excellent! You are able to benefit and bring peace and happiness to devas (gods), asuras (demi-gods), and others, as well as the path of pure karma. I now seal you with the seal of wisdom, so that you will never regress.' At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva again said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, I recall that in the past, during countless kalpas, while upholding this Dharani Dharma-door in Mount Potalaka (Avalokiteśvara's abode), I encountered the Mara King leading many demons, who disturbed my Dharma, causing my mantra phrases to be unsuccessful. At that time, I used this Dharani Dharma to subdue those demons, causing them all to scatter. It should be known that the power of this Dharani is inconceivable.' At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, out of compassion and for the benefit and peace of devas and humans, then spoke the Root Great Body Mantra. This Dharani is named Bhagavan(Blessed One) Lotus Hand Adorned Precious Staff. The World Honored One spoke it in the Great Vajra(Diamond) Joyful Palace. It is praised by the Supreme Victorious Bodhisattva and immeasurable Devas, Nagas(Dragons), and Kinnaras(a type of celestial musician). It is for destroying the vast mountain of karmic obstacles. If there are those who hear it, read it, recite it, or see it, all the afflictions and karmic obstacles of this person will be extinguished. If there is someone who, in the morning, with a respectful heart, recites this Dharani, they will always be followed and protected by Avalokiteśvara(The Bodhisattva of Compassion), and all their thoughts will be accomplished. If there is someone who seeks a wish to be fulfilled, they should sit alone in a quiet place, think of Avalokiteśvara and not have other distractions, and recite this Dharani seven times, and no wish will be unfulfilled. Furthermore, they will be loved by all beings and will not fall into any evil realms. Whether sitting, walking, or standing.

The First Mudra of the General Embracing Body

First, stand upright with feet together. Slightly bend the right leg a little. First, extend the left hand downwards, bending the middle and ring fingers and placing them in the palm. Extend the little finger and index finger along with the thumb. Turn the palm upwards. Then do the same with the right hand, bending the elbow to be level with the shoulder, with the palm facing forward. This is the Mudra of the General Embracing Body. If you wish to subdue demonic enemies and various heretical views of the outer paths, leading them into the right path, make this mudra and recite the Dharani twenty-one times, and it will surely be as you wish. The mantra is:

Namo heluo (two combined) dalaye ye (1), Namo aliye (2), Polu jidi shefa (two combined) laye (3), Puti satuo po ye (4, two combined), Mohe satuo po ye (5), Mohe jialuni jiaye (6), Dadizheta (7), A (departing sound) batuo abatuo (8), Bali badibei (9), Yinxi yixi (10), Suohe (11).

The Second Mudra of the General Holding Dharani

Following the previous body mudra, bring the palms together at the heart. Interlock the five fingers, with the left hand pressing on the right. Erect the two index fingers straight, with their tips touching. Place the two thumbs against the index fingers, pressing on the first joint. Keep the palms slightly open. This mudra is called the Dharma of the General Holding Dharani. If a person makes this mudra and recites the mantra twenty-one times, they can extinguish the karmic obstacles of birth and death for countless kalpas, and in the future, they will be reborn in the pure lands of the ten directions. In the past, when Sakyamuni Buddha (釋迦牟尼佛) was about to attain enlightenment, he was troubled by the demon king. He made this Mudra of the General Holding Dharani and attained Samadhi. The mantra is:

Dadizheta sabuo tuoluoni (1), Mantuoluoye (2), Yinxi yixi (3), Boluo meishu tuo (4), Saduo po ye (5), Suohe.

The Third Mudra of Liberation Samadhi

First, expose the right shoulder, place the right knee on the ground, and bring the palms together above the head. Bend the two index fingers so that their tips touch. Place the two thumbs against the second joint of the index fingers. This Dharma mudra is called the Mudra of Liberation Samadhi.

千眼印咒第四

The Fourth Thousand-Eyed Mudra and Mantra

Stand with feet together. First, place the back of the nails of the two middle fingers, ring fingers, and little fingers together. Then, raise the two index fingers, touching their tips together. Next, place the sides of the two thumbs against the second joint lines of the index fingers. Open the wrists about five inches apart and place them between the eyebrows. This is called the Thousand-Eyed Mudra. Those who practice this mudra and mantra Dharma can see the pure and wonderful lands of hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddha-lands in the worlds. In each Buddha-land, there are one million four thousand Bodhisattvas accompanying the practitioner. If one has not been through the initiation of the Tri-Mandala (altar), one will certainly not be able to see this mudra Dharma. By mastering this mudra, one can personally verify the Bodhisattva's transmission of Dharma and attain wisdom and spiritual powers. All wishes will be fulfilled. The mantra is as follows:

The Fifth Thousand-Armed All-Gathering Mudra

Stand with feet together. First, raise the right palm, with all five fingers together. Then, place the left palm, facing upwards, on top of the right palm, placing it against the chest. This is called the All-Gathering Thousand-Armed Mudra. This mudra can subdue the demonic enemies of the three thousand great thousand worlds. The mantra is as follows:

Tadyathā (thus it is)(1) Avalokite (the one who observes the world's sounds, Avalokiteshvara)(2) Śvarāya (to the sovereign)(3) Sarva-duṣṭa (all evil)(4) Ūhāyāmi (I destroy)(5) Svāhā (accomplishment)(6)

The Sixth Mudra of Penetrating Samadhi

Stand with heels touching each other. First, raise the left hand, with all five fingers together, bend the elbow and support it forward. Then, do the same with the right hand, bending the elbow and supporting it inward. This is called the Mudra of Penetrating Samadhi. This mudra can enable one to penetrate all Samadhi (right concentration) wisdom, adorn the eighty-four thousand Dharma-gates, and through this Dharma, one can attain Anuttara-samyak-saṃbodhi (unexcelled perfect enlightenment). Use the Great Body Mantra from before.

The ninth mudra of the Joyful Mani Wish-Fulfilling Jewel

Stand up and bring the palms together at the heart. Bend the two thumbs and place them inside the palms. Keep the remaining four fingers erect and together at the heart. Recite the previous Great Body Mantra twenty-one times. You will definitely be able to enter the palaces of the heavens, travel to the Buddha lands in the ten directions, and obtain hundreds of thousands of treasures as you wish. You can use them to make offerings to all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Vajras, and all holy beings. If someone can practice this method, they should rise early in the morning, purify themselves with bathing, and perform this mudra. They will then be able to see the Buddhas of the ten directions in lands as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, and eradicate the heavy sins of birth and death from countless kalpas. Therefore, praise such merit.

The tenth mudra of Wish-Fulfilling Request

Following the previous mudra, bend the two index fingers and press them onto the nails of the two thumbs. The backs of the index finger nails should touch each other. Use the previous Great Body Mantra. If someone makes requests, all their wishes will be fulfilled, and they will definitely not regress from the path to Bodhi.

The eleventh mudra for entering the Samadhi of Cessation

Following the previous mudra, erect and spread the index fingers and thumbs, and open the palms. This mudra was bestowed upon me by Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River when I was practicing on the causal ground, enabling me to attain the path to Bodhi. Recite the previous Great Body Mantra.

【English Translation】 Do likewise with the right hand. The two little fingers and middle fingers, erect and touch their tips together, close the wrist. Move the index fingers back and forth. Recite the mantra:

'Om(one) Sarva-deva-naga(two) A(going sound) Nali(three) Svaha(four)'

The eighth mudra for summoning Mahabrahma (Great Brahma King) and Kausika (Indra) to inquire about the Dharma.

Following the previous mudra, open the wrist and touch the sides of the hands together. Palms facing up, move the index fingers back and forth. Recite the mantra:

'Om(one) Maha-brahmaya(going sound)(two) Inhi-ihini(three) Svaha(four)'

This mudra and mantra practice can gather countless Dharanis and mudra methods, all of which will come together. If during a solar or lunar eclipse, chant over ghee twenty-one times, and the person who eats the ghee after it has been blessed with this mudra will become intelligent and be able to recite ten thousand verses daily. The Thousand-Eyed, Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva's Ten-Cubits Mandala Dharma Method. Whenever making any Mandala Dharma method, carefully follow the Sanskrit original. This country does not have land for making mandalas. Like in India (天竺, Tianzhu), they all take the best blessed land as the altar. The Brahmin (婆羅門, Poluomen) country has a special method for selecting land, which cannot be explained in detail. Let's talk about the Han land for now. First, choose a quiet place in the mountains, a place with a good formation on the mountaintop. Dig the ground, remove the stones, gravel, and bad objects, and then start leveling the ground. Sit upright, visualizing all the deities of the mantra before you, without any obstacles or difficulties, and without any other realms appearing. Recite the previous Great Body Mantra one thousand and eighty times. At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva (the Bodhisattva of Compassion) will manifest in the form of Ananda (one of the ten great disciples of the Buddha), coming to ask the practitioner what Dharma (teachings) is needed and what wishes are sought. The practitioner replies that it is to seek the unsurpassed Anuttara-bodhi-dharani (the great mantra of unsurpassed enlightenment). Furthermore, wishing that all Dharma altars may be accomplished, and that all ghosts and spirits may be obedient and subdued. After obtaining the desired result, one should know it oneself and not tell others. Moreover, if one wishes to obtain all desires, one should create a four-cubit water mandala (sacred diagram). Burn benzoin incense and recite the previous Body Mantra one hundred and eight times, forming the previous tenth Wish-Granting Mudra, and then one will obtain all desires fulfilled, as one wishes. Furthermore, if one wishes to obtain all joy, form the previous ninth Joyful Mani Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Mudra, recite the Body Mantra, and bless sesame seeds twenty-one times, burning them in the fire, and then one will obtain wish-fulfillment, obtaining joy, and as one wishes. Furthermore, if one wishes to please Hararaja (a name, meaning 'Joyful King'), one should take a branch from a tree within Hararaja's garden, recite the mantra twenty-one times, and throw it into the garden, and then one will obtain his joy. Furthermore, if one wishes to subdue evil people and enemies, one should bless neem wood twenty-one times, burning it once for each recitation, and then they will submit and be subdued. All gods, ghosts, and the sick will naturally be subdued. Another method: If other countries invade or bandits rebel, perform the first all-embracing body mudra and recite the mantra one hundred and eight times. All bandits will naturally be annihilated. Another method: If the life force of all beings subject to karmic retribution is about to end, perform the Samadhi of Extinction mudra, make offerings daily, burn aloeswood incense, and recite the mantra one thousand and eighty times. This will transform their karmic obstacles. In the past, in the country of Bārāṇasī (ancient Indian city), there was an elder who had only one son, destined to live only sixteen years. When he reached fifteen, a Brahmin (ancient Indian priest) begged for food from door to door and saw the elder looking worried and unhappy, his face gaunt and without luster. The Brahmin asked, 'Elder, why are you unhappy?' The elder explained the reason. The Brahmin replied, 'Elder, you need not worry. Just give me a portion of your food, and you will gain longevity.' At that time, the Brahmin performed this Dharma method for one day and one night. He received a message from Yama (god of death) saying, 'The elder's son was destined to live only sixteen years, and now he is fifteen, with only one year left. Now, he has encountered a good opportunity and will gain eighty years, so I have come to inform you.' At that time, the elder and his wife rejoiced and danced, giving away all their wealth to support the Buddha's teachings and the Sangha. You should know that this Dharma method is inconceivable and has great divine efficacy. Those who have entered the great assembly Samantabhadra (Bodhisattva representing universal virtue) Vajra Grand Altar do not need to create a mandala. Just form the mudra and recite the mantra, and no wish will be unfulfilled, and they will quickly attain Buddhahood. Another method: If a woman suffers greatly during childbirth, bless ghee with the mantra twenty-one times and have her eat it. She will surely be peaceful and happy, and the sons and daughters born will have great and auspicious appearances, adorned with many virtues, having planted roots of merit in past lives, inspiring love and respect, and constantly enjoying supreme happiness among people.

Another method: If beings have eye pain, use the Bodhisattva's Thousand-Eyed mudra and recite the mantra twenty-one times. Press the mudra on the eye, and the eye will immediately be healed. With this great cause and condition, that person will obtain the divine eye, with light shining through, seeing the heavens of the upper realms and enjoying supreme happiness.

Another method: A method for painting an image of Avalokiteśvara (Bodhisattva of compassion) with a thousand eyes and a thousand arms. Carefully according to the Sanskrit text. All images should be made using white felt (a type of silk fabric). Ten cubits wide (approximately sixteen feet in this land), twenty cubits (approximately thirty-two feet in this land). According to the previous fifth thousand-armed seal method, offerings can also be made. There is no need to draw a thousand eyes and a thousand arms. This is also based on the Sanskrit version. Just add another eye on the Bodhisattva's forehead. If you want to make offerings to this Dharma (teaching) gate, you must first make a portrait. The thousand-eyed and thousand-armed Avalokiteśvara (Bodhisattva of Compassion) image will emit light that exceeds the sun and the moon, and will illuminate the three thousand great thousand worlds limitlessly, making everything bright, and all sentient beings' extremely heavy sins will be eliminated at once, and all will be purified. Those who practice this Dharma gate, unless they are not sincere, the thousand-eyed and thousand-armed Avalokiteśvara image Dharma, in the past, Vipashyi Buddha (one of the seven past Buddhas) also appeared as a demon-subduing body. Each of the thousand eyes transforms into a Buddha, as the thousand Buddhas of the Bhadrakalpa (fortunate aeon). Each of the thousand arms transforms into a Chakravartin (ideal universal ruler), as the thousand generations of Chakravarti kings. At that time, when Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva spoke this mantra, the three thousand great thousand worlds, even up to the Heaven of Neither Perception Nor Non-Perception, shook six times. Maheśvara (Maheśvara) of the Heaven of Akaniṣṭha (Rūpadhātu) trembled with unease and was greatly frightened. All evil ghosts cried out loudly, suffered great pain, and scattered in all directions, not knowing where to go. At that time, the manifested body spoke to the assembly and all the evil ghosts and spirits, saying: 'If you do not follow my mantra, those who defy it will have their heads shattered into pieces. This mantra can crush mountains and dry up the great sea. This mantra can subdue the Asura (Asura) armies and protect all lands. This mantra can subdue all evil ghosts and spirits, all diseases, all evil poisons, and all evil people. This mantra can destroy the Thirty-Three Heavens (Trayastriṃśa), causing them all to submit. If a virtuous man is able to recite and uphold this mantra, his power is inexhaustible. This mantra can make those who recite and uphold it wealthy and free, and can also cause the king to love and cherish them throughout their lives, fulfilling all their wishes. If you wish to subdue demonic enemies, you should burn Guggulu incense and recite my body mantra twenty-one times. If you wish to be loved by everyone, chant over a willow branch twenty-one times and chew it in your mouth, and you will be loved and respected. If you wish to have eloquence and wisdom, chant over sweet flag (Acorus calamus) one thousand and eight times and apply it to your heart, and you will gain unobstructed eloquence, and make the Mudra of the Mother Dhāraṇī Heart.'

Thirteenth Mudra and Mantra for Unobstructed Eloquence

With both hands back to back, palms together, extend the thumbs forward. This mudra can protect oneself and others. One should establish boundaries wherever one goes, either chanting over clean water or chanting over clean ashes, each chanted seven times. In the place where one dwells, use one's hands to scoop up water or ashes, first sprinkling it on oneself, and then towards the four directions.

If there are good men or good women who are deluded and disturbed by various evil ghosts, demons, or goblins, take pomegranate branches and willow branches, secretly recite this mantra, and gently strike the patient; there is no illness that cannot be cured. 廣大無畏印第十六

Cross the five fingers of both hands, with the left hand pressing down on the right, tightly clenching the fist, and place it on the top of the head. Reciting the body mantra will subdue them. If you perform this practice, in front of a Sharira (relic) stupa for twenty-nine nights, take white sandalwood and grind it into powder. Smear it on the ground to create a Mandala (sacred circle). Scatter various flowers within the Mandala, bathe and purify yourself, wear new and clean clothes, hold a censer and burn aloeswood incense, sit facing east, and recite the mantra one thousand and eight times. This is the initial efficacy. Then, take mustard seeds and black sesame seeds, grind them together into powder. Take a small amount with three fingers, recite the mantra once, and throw it into the fire. Do this for seven days, reciting the mantra one hundred and eight times each day. After that, everything you do will be accomplished.

The Sixteenth Mudra of Vast Fearlessness

Stand up with feet together. First, let the right hand hang down with the palm facing up, and rest the left elbow on the knee. Do the same with the left hand. In front of a Sharira (relic) image, recite the body mantra one hundred and eight times, and you will be able to bestow fearlessness upon sentient beings. Also, take Chinese scholar tree incense, white mustard seeds, sweet flag, and Shatavari (foreign medicine name), and burn these items in the fire. When burning the fire, you should be in front of the Buddha or in a clean place. Recite the mantra thirty-two times, and make offerings of incense and flowers. All the mantra practices will be accomplished, and whatever you do will be successful. If other mantras are ineffective, chanting this mantra will also make them successful. If you want to seek a dream, recite this mantra and form the mudra before sleeping, and you will have a dream, and you will see whatever you desire to see. If a person has no blessings and everything goes wrong, recite this mantra three times a day for seven days, and all your requests will be fulfilled. At that time, the Bodhisattva was preaching the Dharma in the Sāgara Dragon Palace at the ocean assembly, seeing the dragon beings suffering great distress, and had compassion for these dragon beings, in order to liberate suffering sentient beings, so that they could all be free from suffering, without resentment or harm. At that time, the Dragon Girl offered a precious pearl, worth the Saha world, seeking the Dharma, so I will extensively explain the methods to escape all kinds of suffering.

若有善男子、善女人,在所遊歷之處受持這千眼千臂觀世音菩薩的法門,我將常隨衛護,乃至使諸魔及其眷屬都不能擾亂他們。如果有人遭遇緊急危難,如他國侵略、盜賊作亂等,應當取五色絲線,結誦咒語二十一遍,每誦一遍結一個結,繫在左臂上。又用左手的無名指、中指、食指握拳,大拇指壓在上面,展開小拇指,指向盜賊所在的方位,誦咒七遍,盜賊都會退散,不能造成危害。當時觀世音菩薩在雪山中說法,看到夜叉、羅剎國中的人民,只吃眾生的血肉,沒有善良的心。菩薩爲了利益他們,方便教化,以神通力到達那個國家,顯現千眼千臂降魔之身,說成就姥陀羅尼法。當時羅剎國王來到我這裡,求哀頂禮,我用成就印印之,他立即證得無上道。

成就印第十八

起立,雙腳併攏,雙手合掌放在胸前。將小指交叉,左手壓在右手上,誦身咒二十一遍,種種願望都能成就。如果要救度六道中受苦受難的眾生,應當用輪印。將十個手指的指尖互相抵住,打開手腕,使掌心張開,手指之間各相距一寸左右,這就是菩薩在六道中循環度化諸苦難。用這個印輪迴,一切眾生都能脫離苦難。這個印法是拔吒那羅延長年師翻譯的,他翻譯完就立即回國了,並將所翻譯的原本帶走了。智通法師最終也沒能找到,後來在一個僧人那裡得到了梵文字,翻譯出來,但在外面沒有原本。

成等正覺印第十九

If there are good men or good women who, wherever they travel, uphold this Dharma of the Thousand-Eyed, Thousand-Armed Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, I will always follow and protect them, so that even the retinues of all demons will not be able to disturb them. If people encounter urgent difficulties, such as invasion by other countries, disturbances by thieves, or rebellious chaos, they should take five-colored threads, tie knots while reciting the mantra twenty-one times, tying one knot for each recitation, and fasten it to their left arm. Also, use the ring finger, middle finger, and index finger of the left hand to make a fist, with the thumb pressing on top. Extend the little finger, point it towards the direction of the thieves, and recite the mantra seven times. All the thieves will retreat and be unable to cause harm. At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva was expounding the Dharma in the Snow Mountains, and saw that the people in the Yaksha and Rakshasa countries only ate the blood and flesh of living beings and had no good intentions. The Bodhisattva, in order to benefit them and conveniently teach and transform them, used his supernatural powers to reach that country, manifested the body of a demon-subduing being with a thousand eyes and a thousand arms, and spoke the Accomplishment Matra Dharani Dharma. At that time, the Rakshasa King came to me, begging for mercy and prostrating in reverence. I sealed him with the Accomplishment Mudra, and he immediately attained the Unsurpassed Path.

The Eighteenth Mudra of Accomplishment

Stand up straight with feet together. Join the palms of the hands at the heart. Cross the little fingers, with the left pressing on the right. Recite the body mantra twenty-one times, and all kinds of wishes will be accomplished. If you want to save sentient beings suffering in the six realms, you should use the Wheel Mudra. Touch the tips of the ten fingers together, open the wrists, and spread the palms, with each finger separated by about an inch. This represents the Bodhisattva circulating in the six realms, delivering all from suffering. By using this mudra in the cycle of rebirth, all beings can be liberated from suffering. This mudra Dharma was translated by the Acharya Bhatta-Nara-Longayus, who immediately returned to his country after translating it, taking the translated original with him. The Dharma Master Zhitong ultimately could not find it, but later obtained a Sanskrit version from a monk and translated it, but there was no original version outside.

The Nineteenth Mudra of Complete Enlightenment

Sit in the lotus position. First, extend the five fingers of the left hand, with the palm facing upward, on the left knee. Then, extend the five fingers of the right hand, with the palm facing downward, and press it on the right knee. This mudra is the same as the Mudra of Extinction, representing the past, future, and present.

呼召天龍八部鬼神印第二十一

此咒印如果善男子善女人受持讀誦,能知七世宿命,毒蛇不敢咬,毒藥自然消除,刀不能傷害,國王也不能發怒,永遠不遭受地獄之苦。如果誦此咒時,二十八部鬼神會前來。

【English Translation】 English version: At all Buddhas' places, one attains Buddha-bodhi (Enlightenment) with this mudra (hand gesture). This mudra can eliminate all karmic obstacles. If various phenomena do not appear during meditation, one should, for seven days and seven nights, in a quiet place (Aranya, a secluded place), recite this Dharani (a sacred utterance) and perform this mudra, sincerely reciting the Buddha's name and repenting during the six periods of day and night, then various phenomena will appear, and the merits obtained will be immeasurable and uncountable.

Mudra for Summoning the Thirty-Three Heavens, Number Twenty

First, make a fist with the four fingers of the left hand. Then, grasp the thumb of the left hand with the right hand, also as if making a fist, so that the thumb of the left hand protrudes from the tiger's mouth of the right hand. Move the index finger of the right hand back and forth. The mantra is:

Om (seed syllable) Kuji Kuji Kuyeli Chali Chali Chali Lei Svaha

This Dharani mudra and mantra are inconceivable. If a good man or good woman, when about to sleep, recites this mantra one hundred and eight times, all wishes in their heart will be known and seen in dreams. If one can recite this mantra daily, one can also eliminate all sins and not lose the Bodhi mind. When this person sleeps at night, their dreams will gradually expand, and they will all receive auspiciousness, even dreaming of the Tathagata (Buddha) being predicted to achieve enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, and even Shakra, Brahma, and other devas (gods) will often come to attend and protect them.

Mudra for Summoning the Eight Classes of Gods, Dragons, and Spirits, Number Twenty-One

Stand up straight with feet together. First, bend the thumb of the left hand into the palm, make a fist with the four fingers, and place it on the chest. Then, do the same with the right hand. With the right hand near the right ear, move the index finger back and forth. The mantra is:

Namo Nigandha Namo Arijapata Svaha Namo Arijara Svaha Yin Xi Yi Xi Svaha

If a good man or good woman receives, upholds, reads, and recites this mantra and mudra, they will know their past lives for seven existences, poisonous snakes will not dare to bite them, poison will naturally be eliminated, swords cannot harm them, and kings cannot be angry with them. They will never suffer the pain of hell. If one recites this mantra, the twenty-eight classes of ghosts and spirits will come to attend.


咒人邊坐聽誦咒。若善男子善女人。為鬼魅所著。以白縷為咒索。一遍一結如是四十九結。系其嚥下其病即除。若國內災疫流行國人死亡多者。當取國王園池中蓮華一百八莖。一華各咒一遍擲著火中。燒令蕩盡災疫即除。

解脫印第二十二

If a good man or good woman is possessed by ghosts or demons, a white silk thread can be used to make a mantra rope, tying a knot for each recitation of the mantra, for a total of forty-nine knots, and tying it around the (possessed person's) throat, their illness will be immediately eliminated. If there is a disaster or epidemic in the country, and many people die from the epidemic, one should take one hundred and eight lotus flowers from the king's garden pond, chant the mantra once for each flower, and then throw them into the fire to burn them completely, and the disaster will be immediately eliminated. The Mudra of Liberation, Twenty-second Sit in the lotus position (vajrasana). First, touch the tip of the middle finger of the left hand with the tip of the thumb, with the palm facing upwards, and the other three fingers naturally extended, placed on the left knee. If this good man or good woman can, in front of a sarira (relics of the Buddha or high monks after cremation) or a Buddha statue, on the fifteenth day of the white month (the first half of the lunar month), abstain from food for one day and one night, form this mudra, and recite the mantra one hundred and eight times, then all the aforementioned sins and sufferings will be completely eliminated. If they are not eliminated, it is impossible. This mudra was not in Zhitong's (personal name) original text. Zhitong encountered a Brahmin (ancient Indian priest) monk in Liangzhou (place name) who had this Sanskrit version. Zhitong had the opportunity to collate and examine it, and only then did he discover this mudra. Since he obtained and practiced this mudra, it has had great and inconceivable effects. The Mudra of the Unimpeded Divine Foot, Twenty-third Stand up, first grasp the big toe of the right foot with the left hand as if making a fist. Then grasp the back of the left wrist with the right hand. Recite the body mantra seven times. It will not be difficult to travel a thousand miles in a day. 王心印咒 第二十五

【English Translation】 English version: This Sanskrit text was obtained from India (Tian Zhu), and had never been translated before. Because of its great power, I dared not spread it widely, but kept it for my own practice. Zhi Tong obtained this text from the monk Bhagaga, and by practicing it according to the Dharma, he achieved significant results. However, this text has not been circulated in the world and is extremely rare. If any fellow practitioners obtain this text in the future, I hope we can work together to propagate it.

The Heart Seal Mantra, Chapter Twenty-Five

Join both hands in prayer, with the palms hollow and the wrists together. Move the two index fingers back and forth. The mantra is as follows:

Oṃ (1) Arurika Di Lilu Jiaye Vishe Ye (2) Sarva Shatrur Pramardana Karaya Hūṃ Phaṭ Svāhā

At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva addressed the assembly, saying: 'If, after the Buddha's Parinirvana, during the five hundred years of the Degenerate Age, people in Jambudvipa suddenly see or hear of this Dharma Seal Dharani, they should know that they have made offerings to countless Buddhas in the past. Only then can they be fortunate enough to encounter and obtain this Dharma Seal Dharani. Those who copy, uphold, recite, and practice this Dharani according to the Dharma will immediately attain the first ground (bhumi) and quickly achieve Buddhahood, attaining Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi.' At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, having heard what the Buddha said, rejoiced, believed, and accepted it, and then bowed and departed.
