The Yoga Ritual of Avalokiteśvara (Guānzìzài) Cintāmaṇicakra (Rúyìlún) Bodhisattva, One Scroll

Translated by Vajrabodhi (Jīngāngzhì), Tripiṭaka Master from Southern India of the Great Tang Dynasty

Now I follow the Yoga, as spoken in the Vajraśekhara Sūtra (Jīngāngdǐng jīng), To explain the Cintāmaṇi (Rúyì) recitation method of the Lotus family. By practicing this Samadhi (Sānmèi), one can be like Avalokiteśvara (Guānzìzài). First, select a disciple, choosing one from a pure lineage who respects the Dharma, One who is revered by many, wise, and courageous in advancement. Possessing firm viriya (pílìyé, diligence), never abandoning awakened wisdom, Devotedly filial to parents, with pure faith in the Three Jewels (Sānbǎo - Buddha, Dharma, Sangha), Delighting in practicing the Bodhisattva path, towards the Four Immeasurables (sìwúliàngxīn - loving-kindness, compassion, joy, equanimity), Without interruption for even a moment, always delighting in the Mahayana Dharma. Abiding in the Bodhisattva precepts, revering the Acharya (āshélí, teacher). Towards all the sages, achieving steadfast strength. Possessing the courage of a great person, skilled in understanding the corresponding gates. Always delighting in solitary practice, with fearless wisdom. Constantly adorning oneself with precepts, diligently cultivating the Secret Vehicle. Respectfully following the path of reason, with wholehearted generosity. Always delighting in hearing the wonderful Dharma, having entered into Samaya (sānmèiyé, vows). Having received initiation from the Acharya, and having been approved, Soon one will achieve success. If a disciple possesses these qualities, Then one may transmit this teaching to them. This is the Cintāmaṇi Jewel, Capable of accomplishing all endeavors, as the sutras describe the places. In the mountains and by flowing streams, in a pure Aranya (ālányě, quiet place). In valleys where one finds joy, far from all dangers and fears. Adorn the offerings according to one's ability, the practitioner facing west. First, pay homage to Manthesvara (Mántí zìzài wáng), then pay homage to the Buddhas of the other directions. With the five wheels (forehead, two hands, two knees) touching the ground, prostrate respectfully as taught. After kneeling on both knees, hold the palms together with an empty mind. Sincerely and completely confess all the sins of body, speech, and mind. From past lives, I have been transmigrating in the cycle of birth and death. 次應右膝著地芙蓉合掌置於頂上想禮一切如來及菩薩足。密言曰。

唵 缽頭(入)么(二合)微(微吉反)

禮諸佛已全加半加或輪王加隨意而坐。

作此坐印已  觀遍虛空佛  已身各於前  住彼眾聖會  止觀從膝上  旋舞當心合  如蓮之未敷  想禮于諸佛  次結三昧印  當心堅固縛  檀慧禪智豎  金剛蓮花印  通持蓮花者  警覺眾聖已  誦此密言曰

唵 跋日啰(二合)缽頭(入)么(二合)三磨耶薩怛鑁(三合)

由結此印故  佛及善逝子  諸大名稱者  妙觀察攝受  憶昔本誓願  對於遍照尊  不違教令故  加持使圓滿

次結一切諸佛如來安樂悅意歡喜三昧耶印。

十度堅固縛  忍愿中交合  檀慧與禪智  各相合而豎

密言曰。

唵,三么耶,呼(去)蘇(上)啰哆,薩怛鑁(三合)。

【English Translation】 English version The sins that the previous Buddhas have confessed, I now confess in the same way. May the Buddha have mercy and bless us, so that all sentient beings may be purified. By virtue of this great vow, both oneself and others can obtain immaculate purity.

The secret mantra says:

Om, Sarva Bhava Shuddha, Sarva Dharma, Sarva Bhava Shuddho'ham.

The practitioner should next rejoice in the merits and wisdom accumulated by all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

The Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and all the sages of the past, present, and future three times, All the roots of goodness accumulated, I join my palms together and rejoice in them all. Just like the roots of goodness accumulated by myself, there is no difference in the joy.

Next, one should kneel on the right knee, place the lotus-like joined palms on the top of the head, and visualize prostrating to the feet of all the Tathagatas and Bodhisattvas. The secret mantra says:

Om, Padma Vi.

After prostrating to the Buddhas, one can sit in full lotus position, half lotus position, or wheel-turning king position, sitting as one pleases.

After forming this sitting mudra, visualize the Buddhas pervading the empty space, Oneself is also in front of them, abiding in that assembly of all the sages. The cessation and contemplation start from the knees, rotating and dancing, joining together in front of the heart, Like a lotus flower that has not yet bloomed, visualize prostrating to all the Buddhas. Next, form the Samadhi mudra, firmly binding it in front of the heart, Dana (generosity), Prajna (wisdom), Dhyana (meditation), and Jnana (knowledge) are erected, this is the Vajra Lotus mudra. The one who understands and holds the lotus mudra, after alerting all the sages, Recites this secret mantra saying:

Om, Vajra Padma Samaya Satvam.

Because of forming this mudra, the Buddha and the sons of the Sugata (Bodhisattvas), Those with great names, are received with wonderful observing wisdom. Remembering the original vows of the past, facing Vairochana (the Illuminating One), Because they do not violate the teachings, they bless and make it complete.

Next, form the Samaya mudra of all the Buddhas and Tathagatas, the joyful and pleasing Samaya mudra.

The ten degrees (ten fingers) are firmly bound, the forbearance (ring finger) and vow (little finger) are joined in the middle, Dana (generosity, index finger) and Prajna (wisdom, thumb) and Dhyana (meditation, index finger) and Jnana (wisdom, thumb), each are joined and erected.

The secret mantra says:

Om, Samaya, Hū Surata, Satvam.


示此印故  諸佛及菩薩  一切執金剛  皆悉妙歡喜  次當開心戶  入金剛智字  觀於二乳上  右怛啰左吒  如宮室戶扇  殊勝金剛縛  三業同時發  拍心開兩字

密言曰。

唵 跋日啰(二合)滿馱怛𡀩(二合)吒

無始熏種子  所集之塵勞  今以召罪印  集之慾摧碎  十度堅固縛  忍愿申如針  進力屈如鉤  心想召諸罪  想彼眾罪狀  植髮裸黑形  反印刺於心  觸已誦密語  三業相應故  能召諸罪積  誦此召集已  方作摧碎法

密言曰。

唵 薩婆播波迦哩灑拏 尾輸馱娜 三磨耶 跋日啰(二合) 吽若

召入于掌已  施作摧破法  前印內相叉  稱𤚥縛諸罪  忍愿俱申直  有怛𡀩吒字  想為金剛杵  相拍如摧山  忿句及怒形  能凈諸惡趣  誦已忍愿拍  七三隨所宜

以此相應門  先佛方便故  三業所積罪  無量極重障  作此摧滅已  如火焚枯草  有情常愚

【English Translation】 English version By showing this mudra (hand gesture), all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and all Vajradhara (Diamond Holders), will be exceedingly delighted. Next, one should open the door of the heart, entering the syllable of Vajra (Diamond) wisdom. Visualize on the two breasts, 'Tala' on the right and 'Ta' on the left. Like the door panels of a palace, it is a supreme Vajra (Diamond) binding. The three karmas of body, speech, and mind are activated simultaneously, striking the heart area, opening these two syllables. The mantra says: Om Vajra-bandha Tala Ta The seeds that have been熏習(xunxi) from beginningless time, the accumulated dust and afflictions, now with the summoning sin mudra, gather them wanting to destroy. Using the firm binding of the ten paramitas (perfections), the patience and vow fingers extend like needles, the progress and strength fingers bend like hooks, in the mind thinking of summoning all sins. Visualize the shapes of those sins, hair standing on end, naked and black in form. Reverse the mudra and pierce the heart area, upon contact, recite the mantra. Because the three karmas of body, speech, and mind are in accord, it can summon the accumulation of all sins. After reciting this summoning mantra, then perform the method of crushing. The mantra says: Om Sarva-papa-karshana vishodhana samaya vajra hum hoh After summoning the sins into the palm, perform the method of crushing. The previous mudra crosses internally, weighing the sins and binding them. The patience and vow fingers both extend straight, with the syllables 'Tala' and 'Ta', visualize them as vajras (diamond scepters), striking each other as if crushing a mountain. Using wrathful phrases and an angry appearance, it can purify all evil destinies. After reciting, strike with the patience and vow fingers, seven or three times, as appropriate. Om Vajrapani visphotaya sattvaya bandhani pra-mokshaya sarva-paya-gati-bhyah sarva-satvan sarva-tathagata-vajra-samaya hum tala ta Using this corresponding method, due to the skillful means of the Buddhas of the past, the sins accumulated by the three karmas of body, speech, and mind, immeasurable and extremely heavy obstacles. After performing this method of destruction, it is like fire burning dry grass. Sentient beings are often ignorant.


迷  不知此理趣  如來大悲故  開此秘妙門  次當結入印  內如來智字  二羽堅固縛  禪智入于中  以進力二度  相拄如環勢  觀前八葉蓮  其上置阿字  二點嚴飾故  妙字方名惡  色白如珂雪  流散千光明  想以進力支  捻字安心內  三業齊運用  誦此密言曰

唵 跋日啰(二合)廢(亡計反)舍惡

既想入心中  字相逾光耀  此即法界體

行者應是觀  不久悟寂靜  法本不生故  三世諸如來  金剛身口意  皆以妙方便  持在金剛拳  以此闔心門  智字獲堅固  便屈進力度  拄于禪智背  以印觸胸已  即誦此妙言

行者住等引  二羽堅固縛  仰置於臍下  禪智蓮葉形  此名三昧印  誦此密言曰

唵 三么地 缽頭(入)迷(二合)紇哩(引二合)

出息及入息  住阿那波那  想佛遍虛空  彈指警覺我  佛子汝云何  成無上等覺  不知諸如來  實相之妙法  既聞警覺已  行者復白言  云何名真實  愿最勝尊說  諸佛皆歡喜  作如是勝言  善哉摩訶薩  能作如是問  汝想於心中  所內惡字門  以字徹於心  誦此密言曰

【English Translation】 English version Deluded ones, not understanding this principle. The Tathagata (如來,another name for Buddha) with great compassion, opens this secret and profound gate. Next, one should form the entering mudra (印,hand gesture), placing the wisdom syllable of the Tathagata in the heart. The two hands firmly bound together, with the dhyana (禪,meditation) and wisdom fingers placed within. Using the strength of progress and aspiration, supporting each other in a circular shape. Visualize an eight-petaled lotus in front, with the syllable 'A' (阿,seed syllable representing the origin of all things) placed upon it. Adorned with two dots, this wonderful syllable is named 'Ah' (惡,seed syllable representing the wisdom of Vajradhatu (金剛界) Vairocana (大日如來)). Its color is as white as conch shell and snow, radiating thousands of lights. Visualize supporting it with the strength of progress, holding the 'Ah' syllable, placing it within the heart. Body, speech, and mind are used simultaneously, reciting this secret mantra, saying: 'Om Vajra (二合) Vesha Ah' When visualizing the 'Ah' syllable entering the heart, the form of the syllable becomes even more radiant. This is the essence of the Dharmadhatu (法界,the realm of truth). The practitioner should contemplate in this way, and soon awaken to the truth of stillness. Because the nature of Dharma (法,teachings) is unborn and undying, all Tathagatas of the past, present, and future. Their Vajra (金剛,diamond-like) body, speech, and mind, all use skillful means. Held in the Vajra fist, using it to close the gate of the heart. The wisdom syllable gains firmness, then bend the strength of progress and aspiration. Supporting the back of the dhyana and wisdom fingers, touching the chest with the mudra. Then recite this wonderful mantra: 'Om Vajra Mushti Vam' The practitioner abides in samadhi (等引,meditative absorption), the two hands firmly bound together. Placed upwards below the navel, the dhyana and wisdom fingers forming the shape of lotus petals. This is called the Samadhi mudra (三昧印,meditation mudra), reciting this secret mantra, saying: 'Om Samadhi Padma Hrih' With exhalation and inhalation, abide in Anapana (阿那波那,mindfulness of breathing). Visualize the Buddha pervading the empty space, snapping fingers to awaken me. Disciple of the Buddha, how do you wish to attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (無上正等正覺,unsurpassed perfect enlightenment)? You do not know the subtle Dharma of the true nature of all Tathagatas. Having heard the awakening, the practitioner again reports: What is called truth? May the most supreme Buddha explain it to me. All the Buddhas rejoice, speaking such supreme words: Excellent, Mahasattva (摩訶薩,great being), able to ask such a question. You visualize in your heart, the gate of the 'Ah' syllable that has been placed. Use this syllable to penetrate your heart, reciting this secret mantra, saying:


唵 止多缽啰(二合)底(丁以反)味能(去)迦路弭

當默誦一遍  便想為月輪  倍欲精進故  複誦妙言曰

唵 母提止多 母怛跛(二合)娜夜弭

能令心月輪  圓滿甚清凈  中想妙蓮花  上安寶金剛

密言曰。

唵 底瑟姹 么尼(上)跋日啰(二合)缽頭(入)么(二合)

由此引出美妙的蓮花,流放出千道光焰。 在每一道光明之中,有無量的佛剎土。 在這些剎土之中有美妙的蓮花,觀想手持寶蓮的人。 手持寶蓮的殊勝寶幢,寶幢中發出美妙的聲音。 誰是有福薄之人,當滿足他的一切願望。 安住于這種寂靜的三昧之中,爲了利益一切有情眾生。 像這樣的菩薩們,都安住于等引(禪定)。 從蓮花胎藏中,美妙地放出千道光明。 都是爲了利益眾生,行檀波羅蜜(佈施)等。 普遍進入各種三昧,通達理趣善巧之門。 爲了憐憫有情眾生,作出無量的方便。 化身為種種形象,從出生到涅槃。 轉動廣大的美妙法輪,都從如意寶珠中流出。 所說的美妙佛法,都以法輪來成就。 以法輪作為美妙的智慧,能夠斷除各種煩惱。 猶如轉動大法輪,這是通往福德和智慧的道路。 然後都正確地觀察,逐漸收斂其智慧之蓮。

密言曰:

【English Translation】 English version Om (ōng): Represents refuge, the starting sound of a mantra. Zhǐ duō bō luō (two combined) dǐ (dīng yǐ fǎn) wèi néng (qù) jiā lù mí: Means 'to purify the mind'.

One should silently recite it once, visualizing a moon disc in the mind. To be even more diligent, recite this wonderful mantra again:

Om (ōng): Represents refuge, the starting sound of a mantra. Mǔ tí zhǐ duō: Bodhicitta (the mind of enlightenment). Mǔ dá bō (two combined) nà yè mǐ: Means 'arise' or 'increase'.

It can make the moon disc in the heart complete and very pure. In the center of the moon disc, visualize a beautiful lotus flower, and place a precious vajra on top of the lotus.

The secret mantra says:

Om (ōng): Represents refuge, the starting sound of a mantra. Dǐ sè chǎ: Abide. Mó ní (rising tone): Jewel. Bá rì luō (two combined): Vajra. Bō tóu mó (entering tone) (two combined): Lotus.

Its vastness is like the void, pervading the three realms. Recite this wonderful mantra again, the vajra speech is free from sound:

Om (ōng): Represents refuge, the starting sound of a mantra. Sà pō luō (two combined): Spread, scatter. Mó ní (rising tone): Jewel. Bá rì luō (two combined): Vajra. Bō tóu mó (entering tone) (two combined): Lotus.

From this, draw forth the wonderful lotus, emitting thousands of flames of light. In each ray of light, there are immeasurable Buddha lands. In these lands, there are wonderful lotuses, visualize those who hold the precious lotus. Holding the precious lotus's supreme banner, from the banner comes forth a wonderful sound. Whoever is of meager fortune, may all their wishes be fulfilled. Abiding in this tranquil samadhi, for the benefit of all sentient beings. Bodhisattvas like these all abide in equanimity (meditative absorption). From the lotus womb, wonderfully emit thousands of rays of light. All are for the benefit of sentient beings, practicing Dāna pāramitā (giving) and so on. Universally entering various samadhis, mastering the skillful means of the principle of reason. Out of compassion for sentient beings, creating immeasurable expedient means. Transforming into various forms, from birth to nirvana. Turning the great and wonderful Dharma wheel, all emanating from the wish-fulfilling jewel. The wonderful Dharma that is spoken is all accomplished through the wheel. Using the wheel as wonderful wisdom, able to sever all afflictions. Just like turning the great Dharma wheel, this is the path to merit and wisdom. Then all correctly observe, gradually retracting their lotus of wisdom.

The secret mantra says:

Om (ōng): Represents refuge, the starting sound of a mantra. Sēng hē luō (departing tone): Gather, collect. Mó ní (rising tone): Jewel. Bá rì luō (two combined): Vajra. Bō tóu mó (entering tone) (two combined): Lotus.

All the Tathagatas in all places enter into it.

以此法加持,十度合掌如芙蓉。 進力指彎曲如寶形,印在心、額、喉、頂。 吽(種子字)字觀想於心間,怛啰(種子字)字安於額頭, 紇哩(種子字)字在喉嚨上,惡(種子字)字置於頭頂。 猶如這樣佈置觀想的緣故,此身如金剛一般。 再誦唸此密咒,蓮花之語化為音聲:

'唵 啰 怛娜 跋日啰(二合)達么 紇哩(二合)'

其次應當結灌頂印,智者合蓮花掌, 進力指如……

【English Translation】 English version As one, Like a bright mirror, it can reflect all phenomena. The self-nature essence of the Dharmadhatu resides on the Vajra Lotus. Immediately transforming the precious lotus, it becomes the True Tara Bodhisattva (name). Holding a wish-fulfilling jewel in hand, with six arms and a golden body. All visualize themselves, with the crown adorned with jewels. The crown is seated with the自在王(Avalokiteśvara, the King of Freedom, a form of Guanyin Bodhisattva), residing in the Dharma-teaching posture. The first hand is in a contemplative pose, out of compassion for sentient beings. The second hand holds the wish-fulfilling jewel, capable of fulfilling all wishes. The third hand holds prayer beads, to liberate the suffering of animals. The left hand presses on the Mountain of Light, achieving immovability. The second hand holds a lotus, capable of purifying all non-Dharma. The third hand holds a Dharma wheel, capable of turning the unsurpassed Dharma. The six-armed, vast body can roam through the six realms. With great compassion and skillful means, it cuts off the suffering of all sentient beings. The practitioner visualizes in this way, sitting in the moon disc. The body emits a thousand rays of light, with round halos behind the head and back. Further visualize the moon disc in the heart, also having a precious lotus flower. With this, one can firmly and immovably visualize oneself. To be free from all delusions, recite this mantra:

'Om hrih dah tistha ratna vajra padma atmaka hūṃ samaya mahā samaya sarva tathāgata abhisambodhi ratna vajra padma atmaka hūṃ'

With this Dharma blessing, the ten fingers join like a lotus. The index and middle fingers are bent like a jewel, imprinting on the heart, forehead, throat, and crown of the head. Visualize the Hūṃ (seed syllable) in the heart, place the Trāṃ (seed syllable) on the forehead, Place the Hrīḥ (seed syllable) on the throat, and place the Aḥ (seed syllable) on the crown of the head. Just like this arrangement of visualization, this body is like Vajra. Recite this mantra again, the lotus speech becomes sound:

'Om ratna vajra dharma hrih'

為喜諸佛故  應拍蓮花印  二手結蓮掌  妙拍令歡喜

爲了使諸佛歡喜,應當拍蓮花印,雙手結蓮花掌,巧妙地拍打,令諸佛歡喜。

秘密真言說:

觀想在自己身前,觀想紇哩(hé lī)字門,變為蓮花王,中間有紇哩(hé lī)字,怛啰(dá luō),安(ān)在兩邊,成為金剛寶蓮,共同變為所尊之本尊,手持如意妙寶,如同前面觀想自身一樣,現在所觀想的本尊也是一樣,爲了使自身與本尊體性無二無別,接下來作呼召法,雙手結成十度未開敷的蓮花,進力指如鉤狀,即誦此秘密真言,應發出蓮花的聲音:

【English Translation】 English version Treasure Form: Sandalwood fragrance and wisdom are closely related. Place the mudra on the forehead, recite the secret mantra, and visualize the Buddha's empowerment in your mind.

Om: Represents refuge and taking refuge in life. Padma: Lotus. Bhrikuti: Intense light. Da: Many. Koti: A hundred million. Ratna: Jewel. Padma: Lotus. Abhiseka: Consecration. Loka Visuddha: Pure one. Vam: Seed syllable. Trah: Seed syllable.

Then, using this subtle mudra, separate both hands to the sides, as if wearing a lotus garland, slowly scatter it forward and downward, visualize the white ribbon hanging down, and recite this wonderful mantra:

Om: Represents refuge and taking refuge in life. Padma: Lotus. Male: Garland. Vam: Seed syllable. Hrih: Seed syllable. Trah: Seed syllable. Tah: Seed syllable.

Next, one should form the armor mudra, with both hands forming lotus fists, circling from the heart to the back, from the back to the navel, then circling to the waist and both knees, gradually upward to the back of the neck, from the back of the neck to the throat, again circling from the back of the neck, returning to the forehead, then circling from behind the crown of the head, slowly scattering from below the navel, reciting this secret mantra:

Om: Represents refuge and taking refuge in life. Apaya: Protection. Padma: Lotus. Kavachaya: Armor. Bandha Raksha: Binding protection. Vam: Seed syllable. Hum: Seed syllable. Phat: Seed syllable.

To please all the Buddhas, one should clap the lotus mudra, with both hands forming lotus palms, clapping skillfully to make the Buddhas rejoice.

The secret mantra says:

Om: Represents refuge and taking refuge in life. Padma: Lotus. Tusye Hu: Delight.

Visualize in front of oneself, visualize the Hrih syllable gate, transforming into the Lotus King, with the Hrih syllable in the middle, Trah and Ah on both sides, becoming the Vajra Jewel Lotus, together transforming into the revered deity, holding the wish-fulfilling jewel, just as one visualized oneself before, so too is the visualized deity now, in order to make the essence of oneself and the deity inseparable, next perform the summoning method, with both hands forming a lotus that is not yet fully open, the index and middle fingers like a hook, then recite this secret mantra, one should make the sound of the lotus:

Om: Represents refuge and taking refuge in life. Padma: Lotus. Jih Jah: Hooking. Ankusha: Hook. Hum: Seed syllable.

Since the practitioner has already summoned, next one should form the rope mudra, just like the previous joined lotus palms, the index and middle fingers standing like a ring, this is called the Lotus Rope, which can fulfill all wishes.

【English Translation】 English version This secret mantra should be recited to summon and enter the Wisdom Body. Om Padmo (Padma) Jñāna Mukha Praveshaya Hum Having entered the Wisdom Body, to prevent any wavering, one should form the Lotus Lock mudra with a determined mind. As before, join the palms in the Lotus gesture, extend the middle and ring fingers and curve them into rings. The index and little fingers are also similarly interlocked like hooked chains. Om Padmo (Padma) Jñāna Sphota Hum To bring about supreme joy, form the Lotus Bell mudra. Hold the lotus flower, with the middle and ring fingers entering into the center, the index and little fingers remain like rings, and recite this secret mantra. Om Jñāna Padma Vesaya Hum Next, recite the Lotus Hundred Syllable Mantra, holding the Arghya (vessel for offering pure water) and offering it with saffron, white sandalwood, and borneol-scented water. Next, form the Flower Garland Mudra (hand gesture of a garland of flowers), and use it for offering. Without changing the previous Joy Mudra (hand gesture of joy), hold it forward with both hands. Visualize various precious flower garlands filling the entire space. The secret mantra says: Om (seed syllable, representing refuge) Jih-rah (conjunction, light) Nah-pah-doo (entering, lotus) Mah (conjunction, lotus) Mah-lay (garland) Hum (seed syllable, representing accomplishment). Next, one should use the Song Mudra (hand gesture of singing) to offer to the Wise Lotus One. Again, use the previous Wonderful Mudra (wonderful hand gesture), bend the palm, and press the fingers against the palm. 【English Translation】 English version Fragrant and luxuriant, the Kalpa tree is extremely magnificent. Recite this secret and wonderful mantra, employing body, speech, and mind in unison.

Oṃ Padma Jñāna Puṣpe Hūṃ

Beings are covered by ignorance, far from the light of wisdom. To purify them, one should form the Wisdom Lamp Mudra (hand gesture). Using the previous lotus palms, the index and middle fingers are raised and brought close together. Visualize a Mani jewel lamp in the mind, illuminating the entire expanse of space. Emanating from immeasurable light, recite this secret mantra:

Oṃ Padma Jñāna Nirbhi

The wise one should next form the Liberation Anointing Incense Mudra. To purify beings, offer this Śīla (precept) incense. With hands spread into lotus palms, make the gesture of applying incense at the heart. The ten perfections are cultivated, and the ocean of incense pervades the void. Offer to the Buddha and the revered ones, reciting this secret mantra:

Oṃ Padma Jñāna Gandhe Hūṃ

Having completed the inner and outer offerings, then one should recite accordingly, forming the secret root mudra, facing the principal deity of the mantra. First, recite the root mantra clearly seven times. With palms flat at the heart, the index and ring fingers are like lotus leaves, the middle and little fingers are in the shape of a Mani jewel, and the remaining fingers are like banners. Recite the root mantra, contemplating the fulfillment of the wishes of sentient beings.

The mantra says:

Next, visualize secret words flowing from the mouth of the honored one, clearly forming the image of letters, with five-colored light shining, interspersed with various sublime colors, entering the practitioner's mouth, arranged within the heart-moon disc, as clear as red sphatik (crystal). Contemplate each one carefully, following the principle, proceeding with enlightenment. Abide in samadhi and practice, entering the 'Ah' syllable gate, then entering the 'Wheel' syllable contemplation, universally contemplating all syllables. This is called Samadhi-Recitation, obtaining wisdom and liberation. Because of this correspondence, one will soon achieve all-knowing wisdom. If the sound is smooth and recited, it is most sublime, wonderful, and extraordinary. Abide in the contemplation of the honored deity, without an impatient mind, neither too high nor too low, neither too slow nor too fast. The wise one is free from discrimination and all delusive thoughts. If one recites a million times, all requests will be fulfilled. Hold prayer beads in both hands, whether they are bodhi seeds, lotus seeds, conch beads, or other treasures, choose those without flaws and with good luster. String together one hundred and eight, reciting the Heart Mantra, Heart-Center Mantra, and Vikiranottara Mantra seven times for each. Empower in this way, and after stringing the rosary, move one bead at a time in the heart, reciting with the sound of 'Svaha' (accomplishment). One thousand or one hundred and eight times, recite according to your ability. Four times or three times a day, this method is most effective in the later part of the night. In the Cintamanicakra Sutra, this is what the original Buddha taught. If one practices in this way, one will attain the first Bhumi (Joyful Ground) in this life, and after sixteen more lives, one will achieve unsurpassed Bodhi. 【English Translation】 English version: With the mind reaching its limit, scatter from the face, join the palms in a lotus shape above the head. Visualize the honored one in empty space, then return to one's original abode.

The secret mantra says:

Om, Padma (Lotus) Sattva (Being) Hrih Muh.

Having dispatched the holy ones, abide in the visualization of one's own principal deity. Or, in a quiet and secluded place, recite the Mahayana (Great Vehicle). The Lankavatara Sutra, the Avatamsaka Sutra, the Prajna (Wisdom) Sutra, and the Adhyardhasatika Prajnaparamita Sutra (Perfection of Wisdom in One and a Half Verses). Such scriptures and teachings as these, contemplate and practice. Having recited the scriptures, freely walk, stand, sit, even to the point of sleeping, without interruption of the Bodhi mind (mind of enlightenment). Before long, you will attain Siddhi (accomplishment), as spoken by Vajragarbha (Diamond Womb). This great compassion ritual, does not select days or constellations, timely meals and bathing, whether pure or impure, should always be without interruption, staying far from distractions, not engaging in worldly affairs, upon completion, make a vow, form the Samaya mudra (vow seal), and having paid homage to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, freely walk about, thereby accumulating meritorious deeds, liberating the power of the original vow, enabling all sentient beings, to quickly attain omniscience, these four lines of aspiration above, are described in the Vajra ritual manual, for the benefit of sentient beings, I now gather them together.
