爾時婆伽梵住極樂世界。與諸大眾宣說妙法。時金剛手菩薩。從座而起偏袒右肩。雙膝著地頂禮觀自在菩薩摩訶薩足。白觀自在菩薩言。聖者住大悲解脫如幻三昧。能除一切有情苦惱。與世出世利益安樂。假使三千大千世界一切眾生。同時有種種苦惱及八難苦。或希望世間出世果報。若能一心稱念觀自在菩薩摩訶薩名號。應時不捨大悲誓願。即現種種隨類之身。能滿眾生一切勝愿。亦能護持國界拔濟苦難。亦能攝受養育增長吉祥。亦能遮止囚禁苦形。亦能銷除蠱毒鬼魅及諸惡病。亦能臨陣禁制刀杖。亦能消除水火災難。亦能斷除𥜒禱咒詛。亦能結護方隅地界。唯愿聖者哀愍未來一切有情國王男女。若凈信三寶護持佛法。相承王業勿令斷絕。為彼等故說軌儀陀羅尼加持方便。

爾時觀自在菩薩摩訶薩。從座而起頂禮佛足。右繞三匝還坐本處。合掌向佛而白佛言。唯愿世尊哀愍加持。我有葉衣觀自在菩薩摩訶薩陀羅尼。能除一切有情災禍。疫疾饑儉劫賊刀兵。水旱不調宿曜失

爾時,婆伽梵(Bhagavan,世尊)住在極樂世界,與諸大眾宣說妙法。當時,金剛手菩薩從座位上站起,偏袒右肩,雙膝跪地,頂禮觀自在菩薩摩訶薩(Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Mahāsattva)的足。稟白觀自在菩薩說:『聖者安住于大悲解脫如幻三昧,能夠去除一切有情眾生的苦惱,給予世間和出世間的利益安樂。假使三千大千世界的一切眾生,同時有種種苦惱以及八難之苦,或者希望得到世間和出世間的果報,若能一心稱念觀自在菩薩摩訶薩的名號,觀自在菩薩應時不捨大悲誓願,即刻顯現種種隨順其類的身形,能夠滿足眾生一切殊勝的願望,也能護持國界,拔除救濟苦難,也能攝受養育,增長吉祥,也能遮止囚禁的苦難,也能消除蠱毒鬼魅以及各種惡病,也能在臨陣時禁制刀杖,也能消除水火災難,也能斷除詛咒,也能結界守護四方地界。唯愿聖者哀愍未來的一切有情眾生,國王男女,若能以清凈的信心皈依三寶,護持佛法,相承王業勿令斷絕,爲了他們,請您宣說軌儀陀羅尼加持的方便法門。』

當時,觀自在菩薩摩訶薩從座位上站起,頂禮佛足,右繞三匝,回到原來的座位,合掌向佛稟白佛說:『唯愿世尊哀愍加持,我有葉衣觀自在菩薩摩訶薩陀羅尼,能除一切有情眾生的災禍,疫病饑荒劫賊刀兵,水旱不調,星宿失序等災難。』

【English Translation】 English version: The Sutra of Parnashavari Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva

Translated by the Tripiṭaka Śramaṇa Amoghavajra of Daxingshan Temple, with the title of Grand Master of Great Wisdom, who was granted the honor of Sikong posthumously, the title of Duke of Su of the State, with a fief of three thousand households, and the honor of Purple Robe, holding the titles of Grand Master of the Three Divisions, Special Advanced Official, and Acting Minister of the Court of State Ceremonial, under Imperial Decree.

At that time, the Bhagavan (Blessed One) was dwelling in the Land of Ultimate Bliss, expounding the wonderful Dharma to the great assembly. Then, Vajrapani Bodhisattva rose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, knelt on both knees, and prostrated himself at the feet of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Mahāsattva. He said to Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva: 'O Holy One, abiding in the Samadhi of Great Compassion, Liberation, and Illusion-like Nature, you are able to remove the suffering of all sentient beings and bestow worldly and other-worldly benefits and happiness. Suppose all sentient beings in the three thousand great thousand worlds simultaneously experience various sufferings and the eight difficulties, or hope for worldly and other-worldly rewards, if they can single-mindedly recite the name of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Mahāsattva, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva will not abandon the vow of great compassion and will immediately manifest various forms according to their kind, able to fulfill all the supreme wishes of sentient beings. You are also able to protect the country, rescue and relieve suffering, and also able to embrace, nurture, and increase auspiciousness. You are also able to prevent the suffering of imprisonment, and also able to eliminate poisons, ghosts, and various evil diseases. You are also able to restrain swords and weapons in battle, and also able to eliminate the disasters of water and fire. You are also able to cut off curses, and also able to establish boundaries and protect the land. May the Holy One have compassion on all future sentient beings, kings, men, and women, who with pure faith take refuge in the Three Jewels, uphold the Buddha-dharma, and continue the royal lineage without interruption. For their sake, please explain the means of the ritual, dharani, and empowerment.'

At that time, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Mahāsattva rose from his seat, prostrated himself at the Buddha's feet, circumambulated the Buddha three times to the right, and returned to his original seat. He joined his palms and said to the Buddha: 'May the World-Honored One have compassion and bless me. I have the Parnashavari Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Dharani, which can remove all disasters, epidemics, famine, robbery, weapons, drought, floods, and the disorder of constellations for all sentient beings.'


序。亦能增長福德國界豐盛人民安樂。我今欲說唯愿聽許。佛言善哉善哉隨汝意說。爾時觀自在菩薩。承佛威神而說陀羅尼曰。

又令二人誦贊。一人誦吉慶贊。一人誦吉祥贊。令知法弟子三五人。一人持香爐燒安悉香。其香以葉衣觀自在菩薩心真言。加持一百八遍。然後取燒香菸勿令斷絕。一人持賢瓶。滿盛香水插華果樹枝。令持瓶人在前先行引像。二人吹䗍。引入王宮有旋一匝。南門而出復從東。入卻繞城內坊市一匝。便城南門出。城南門外接一大水瓶。于中置種種飲食雜果及麨。阿阇梨誦妙色身如來真言加持七遍。然後誦葉衣觀自在菩薩陀羅尼七遍。于真言句中。稱國王名號加持。愿國王界無諸災難。然後于路側曠野。棄擲水瓶令破。作是告言。閻魔界中行病鬼等。汝等受領此飲食。複道而歸。于諸有情起大慈心。令此國界無諸災難。

又法欲求長壽無病者。隨意大小。㲲上畫葉衣觀自在菩薩像。于施愿手下。畫彼男女。其像置道場中。每日香華飲食旋繞供養髮愿。常得加持滿其所愿。

又法若國王男女難長難養。或短壽疾病纏眠寢食不安。皆由宿業因緣生惡宿直。或數被五曜陵逼本宿。令身不安。則于所居之處。用牛黃或紙或素。上書二十八大藥叉將真言。帖四壁上。先於東方壁上。帖四大藥叉將真言。從東北角起首。所謂第一藥叉將真言曰。

【English Translation】 Said. After blessing it twenty-one times, then strike it. The mantra says: Om Jik Hum (short sound) Svaha Also, have two people recite praises. One recites the Auspicious Celebration Praise, and the other recites the Auspicious Praise. Have three to five disciples who know the Dharma. One person holds a censer and burns benzoin (a type of incense). The incense is blessed one hundred and eight times with the heart mantra of Parnashavari (Leaf-Clad Avalokiteshvara). Then, take the burning incense smoke and do not let it be interrupted. One person holds a virtuous vase, filled with fragrant water and branches of flowering and fruit trees. Have the person holding the vase lead the image in front. Two people blow conches. Lead it into the royal palace, circling it once. Exit through the south gate and enter again from the east. Then circle the inner city's wards and markets once. Then exit through the south gate of the city. Outside the south gate of the city, place a large water bottle. Inside it, place various foods, mixed fruits, and roasted flour. The Acharya (teacher) recites the mantra of Surupa-kaya-tathagata (Beautiful Body Thus Come One), blessing it seven times. Then recite the Parnashavari (Leaf-Clad Avalokiteshvara) dharani seven times. Within the mantra phrases, invoke the king's name and bless it, wishing that the king's realm be free from all disasters. Then, on the roadside wilderness, discard the water bottle, letting it break. Make this announcement: 'You disease-spreading ghosts in the realm of Yama (Lord of Death), receive and accept this food and drink. Return to your paths and generate great compassion for all sentient beings. Let this kingdom be free from all disasters.' Also, if one desires longevity and freedom from illness, draw an image of Parnashavari (Leaf-Clad Avalokiteshvara) on a felt (woolen fabric) of any size. Below the wish-granting hand, draw the man and woman. Place the image in the mandala, and offer incense, flowers, food, and circumambulation daily, making vows. One will always receive blessings and fulfill their wishes. Also, if the king's sons and daughters are difficult to raise, or are short-lived, plagued by illnesses, and have restless sleep, all due to past karma causing inauspicious constellations, or if their original constellation is frequently oppressed by the five planets (stars), causing discomfort, then in their dwelling place, use ox gallstone, or paper, or silk, and write the mantras of the twenty-eight great Yaksha (Guardian Deities) generals. Affix them to the four walls. First, on the eastern wall, affix the mantras of the four great Yaksha generals, starting from the northeast corner. The first Yaksha general's mantra is:

The Great Yaksha General Mantra for the northeast corner of the house is:

The Great Yaksha General Mantra for the southeast corner of the house is:

Om Agni (two combined) Taki Hum Jra Svaha (two combined, long vowel)

The Great Yaksha General Mantra for the southwest corner of the house is:

Om Soma Taki Hum Jra Svaha (two combined, long vowel)

The Great Yaksha General Mantra for the northwest corner of the house is:

Om Vayu Taki Hum Jra Svaha (two combined, long vowel)

After writing the mantras, at the positions of the twenty-eight Great Yaksha Generals, each should be smeared with incense on a small altar. On the altar, burn incense, arrange various flowers, food, lamps, and water offerings (Arghya), and sincerely make an announcement. May the twenty-eight Great Yaksha Generals and their retinues each abide in their respective directions, protect and guard so-and-so (a specific person), so that they may eliminate disasters, inauspiciousness, illnesses, and premature death, obtain health and strength, increase intelligence, possess dignified and complete majesty, be easy to raise and easy to grow, and have a long lifespan. After making such blessings, the twenty-eight Great Yaksha Generals will not dare to disobey the Buddhas, such as the instructions of Avalokiteśvara (the Bodhisattva who observes the sounds of the world) and Vajrapani (the Bodhisattva who wields the vajra), protecting day and night, bringing peaceful sleep and awakening, and obtaining great power and virtue. If a king performs this practice, disasters and illnesses within his kingdom will be eliminated, the country will be peaceful, and the people will be happy.

Another method involves drawing the Natal Constellation (based on the constellation of birth to determine destiny) and making offerings every month. If this is done, the inauspicious fate of the evil constellation will be transformed into auspiciousness. Carve an image of the Leaf-Clad Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva from white sandalwood, and write this mantra on birch bark, carrying them together. If performing this practice, choose the day when the Ghost Constellation is in effect to receive initiation (Abhisheka). Tie a silk cord around the neck of the initiation vase, filling it with fragrant water. Place seven treasures and five kinds of medicine in the water, namely Saha-ja-ra, etc., Saha-niva, Kanta-kari, Brihati, Nigri-karana, and five kinds of seed fragrances, etc. Recite the Leaf-Clad Avalokiteśvara Dharani one hundred and eight times.

又法若人疫病。取捨彌木(此國無取楮木替之)燃火然後酥護摩。人發人骨投一百八遍於火中燒。七日已來每日供養。葉衣觀自在菩薩。護摩之時。稱彼國城名聚落名村坊名。一切災難悉皆除滅。如是象疫馬疫牛疫水牛疫。各取本類骨本毛。作護摩七日七夜亦皆災滅。

又法取一瓶滿盛香水。誦真言加持一百八遍以水淋彼畜。一切疫病悉皆消滅。

又法若人頭痛。取有香氣華加持一百八遍。令鼻嗅即得除愈。

又法若人患鬼。魅取粳米粉。擔作彼魅形。以鑌刀誦段段截之。七日護摩即得除差。

又法若人患瘧。若一日二日三日。乃至七日或長時。患瘧用牛黃書此真言。戴即得除差。

又法或嬰孩鬼魅。書此真言帶則得除愈。

又法劫賊侵奪坊市村邑。或欲遠遊路畏劫盜取佉陀羅木末。護摩誦真言一百八遍。所去之處無諸障難。

又法若蟲食苗稼。取砂以真言加持一百八遍。散於田中蟲自遠去五穀豐熟。

【English Translation】 English version: One can use abhiseka (consecration) to wash away all obstacles and difficulties. After the abhiseka, take a clay bowl filled with various foods, circle it three times over the heads of those men and women, and have someone who knows the Dharma throw it away and break it at a distance. Then tie a thread, bless it with the Parnashavari (Leaf-Clad) mantra, and tie it on their heads. If this is done, diseases on the body, ghostly influences, afflictions from planets and the oppression of one's natal stars will all be extinguished.

Another method: If people have an epidemic, take sami wood (if this country does not have it, use paper mulberry wood as a substitute), light a fire, and then perform homa (fire offering) with ghee. Throw human hair and human bones into the fire 108 times. Starting from the seventh day, make daily offerings to Parnashavari Avalokiteshvara (Leaf-Clad Avalokiteshvara). During the homa, recite the names of that country, city, village, and hamlet. All disasters will be eliminated. Similarly, if there are elephant epidemics, horse epidemics, cattle epidemics, or buffalo epidemics, take the bones and hair of the respective animals and perform homa for seven days and seven nights, and all disasters will be extinguished.

Another method: Take a bottle filled with fragrant water, recite the mantra and bless it 108 times, and sprinkle the water on those livestock. All epidemic diseases will be eliminated.

Another method: If someone has a headache, take fragrant flowers, bless them 108 times, and have the patient smell them with their nose, and they will be cured.

Another method: If someone is afflicted by ghosts, take glutinous rice flour, make a shape of the ghost, and cut it into pieces with a steel knife while reciting the mantra. Perform homa for seven days, and they will be cured.

Another method: If someone has malaria, whether it occurs for one day, two days, three days, up to seven days or longer, write this mantra with bezoar and wear it, and they will be cured.

Another method: If an infant is afflicted by ghosts, write this mantra and wear it, and they will be cured.

Another method: If robbers invade and plunder towns and villages, or if one is afraid of encountering robbers on a long journey, take powdered khadira wood (Acacia catechu), perform homa and recite the mantra 108 times, and there will be no obstacles or difficulties in the places one goes.
