青頸觀自在菩薩心陀羅尼經
爾時世尊于毗沙門天王宮,說觀自在菩薩往昔因緣:
「過去無量無邊阿僧祇劫,有佛名觀照觀察如來,成佛道已,住二十七日說法。臨涅槃時,有一天子名曰越那羅延力。爾時如來為彼說此青頸觀自在菩薩心真言。時彼天子才聞,獲得大悲三摩地,作是愿言:『所有一切眾生,若有怖畏厄難,聞我名者皆得離苦解脫,速證無上正等菩提。寧一稱觀自在菩薩名字號,不稱百千諸恒沙如來名。』」
爾時,世尊復告毗沙門天王言:「當知此天子,於我滅度后,以此心真言流轉,廣作佛事,利益無邊眾生,安置無上菩提之道。陀羅尼曰:
「(相傳言,每入道場時,先䠒跪懺悔發願已,結跏趺坐,即結凈三業印及習真言,次結三部護身印已,即結后根本印,誦真言七遍,頂上散印。然捧珠,或百或千,依時持)。」

【English Translation】 English version T20 No. 1111 The Nīlakaṇṭha Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Heart Dhāraṇī Sūtra No. 1111 [cf. Nos. 1112, 1113] The Nīlakaṇṭha Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Heart Dhāraṇī Sūtra At that time, the World Honored One, in the palace of the Heavenly King Vaiśravaṇa, spoke of the past causes and conditions of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva: 『In the past, immeasurable, boundless asaṃkhya kalpas ago, there was a Buddha named Avalokita-avalokana Tathāgata. After attaining Buddhahood, he stayed for twenty-seven days teaching the Dharma. Near the time of his Nirvāṇa, there was a Deva (heavenly being) named Atibaladeva-nārāyaṇa. At that time, the Tathāgata spoke this Nīlakaṇṭha Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva Heart Dhāraṇī for him. As soon as that Deva heard it, he attained the mahākaruṇā samādhi and made this vow: 『If all sentient beings have fear and distress, and hear my name, they will all be liberated from suffering and quickly attain anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi. It is better to recite the name of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva once than to recite the names of hundreds of thousands of Ganges-sand-like Tathāgatas.』』 At that time, the World Honored One again told the Heavenly King Vaiśravaṇa: 『You should know that this Deva, after my Parinirvāṇa, will circulate this Heart Dhāraṇī, widely perform Buddha-works, benefit boundless sentient beings, and establish them on the path of unsurpassed Bodhi. The Dhāraṇī is as follows:』 『(It is said that each time when entering the maṇḍala, one should first kneel down to repent and make vows, then sit in the lotus position, then form the Pure Three Karmas Mudrā and practice the mantra, then form the Three Families Protection Mudrā, and then form the Root Mudrā, reciting the mantra seven times, and scattering the mudrā on the top of the head. He stands on an eight-petaled lotus flower, adorned with the radiant light of necklaces (瓔珞 - yīngluò), armlets (臂釧 - bì chuàn), bracelets (镮 - huán), and anklets (珮 - pèi), the sacred thread hanging diagonally from his left shoulder.
