The Vajra Longevity Dharani Sutra
Translated by the Great Master of Broad Wisdom, Tripitaka, with the title of Special Advanced Official of the Honglu Court and Great Discriminating Corrector, under Imperial Decree
At that time, the Vairocana Tathagata (Vairocana Buddha) attained complete and perfect enlightenment in the fourth dhyana of the summit. Immediately descending from the summit of Mount Sumeru (Mount Sumeru), in the Vajra Jewel Pavilion, all the Tathagatas throughout the entire Dharma Realm of empty space gathered together, surrounding him from all sides, speaking with one voice, 'We beseech the World-Honored One to turn the wonderful Dharma wheel, which is profoundly secret,' namely, the Vajra Realm Wheel, the Wheel of Command of Subduing the Three Realms, the Wheel of Universal Taming and Subduing, and the Wheel of Accomplishing All Meanings. These four wheels emanated from the heart of Vairocana. Each wheel has thirty-seven sages, each with its own mantra (mantra), each with its own samadhi (samadhi), each with its own mudra, dignified conduct, and upholding, with great compassion and vows, in the impure Buddha-lands, in the pure and wonderful worlds, sometimes hidden and sometimes manifest, turning the wheel to benefit and bring joy to all sentient beings, each in their own way. Vairocana Buddha, having received the requests of all the Tathagatas, when about to turn the Dharma wheel, immediately entered samadhi and beheld Maheśvara, the Great自在天 (Maheśvara), who was stubborn and difficult to transform, clinging to wrong views, and not able to be tamed by my tranquil and compassionate body. Thereupon, the World-Honored One entered the samadhi of sorrow and anger, and from his chest manifested the great Bodhi-mind of the five-peaked Vajra, emanating the body of the Vajra Bodhisattva who subdues the three realms, with four faces and eight arms, majestic and blazing with power, unique and difficult to behold. He prostrated himself before Vairocana Tathagata and all the Buddhas, saying, 'I beseech the World-Honored One to instruct me, what shall I do?' The Buddha told the Subduer of the Three Realms Bodhisattva, 'Now, subdue those great devas who are difficult to tame, and cause them all to take refuge in the Buddhas, the Dharma, and the Sangha, and to generate the Bodhi-mind.' Immediately, he subdued all the devas, causing them all to take refuge in the Buddhas, the Dharma, and the Sangha. Only Maheśvara, with his extraordinary power and virtue, resisted and opposed. The Subduer of the Three Realms Bodhisattva inflicted various sufferings upon him, even to the point of death.

佛告執金剛菩薩若有善男子善女人。受持唸誦每日三時時別千遍。過現所有惡業因緣短命夭壽。由持此真言故信心清凈。業障消滅更增壽命。若有修習三摩地者。現生不轉父母生身。獲五神通陵空自在。
次說三摩地門。結跏趺坐閉目端身。二手重疊或結定印。安於臍下。于虛空中遍想諸佛了了分明。即自身中當其心上。觀凈滿月光明瑩徹。上有五股金剛杵形。舒熾漸大如等己身。變為降三世金剛菩薩。頂有毗盧遮那如來。從佛身上遍體毛孔中。出白甘露灌注自身。次心中復觀。金剛薩埵菩薩。相好殊勝威德自在。
次結金剛壽命加持甲冑密印。各以二手作金剛拳。以進力右押左。相鉤安於頂上。即誦壽命真言七遍。安於額前分手系項。系項后已。直舒進力旋轉如環。下至心上相纏如系甲勢。次至背後復系。來至臍兩膝腰后。當心二肩頂前頂后。

【English Translation】 English version: Maheśvara (Great Heaven), with his right foot stepping on his consort, then Vairocana Buddha, having entered the Samadhi of Great Compassion and Wrath, spoke the Vajra Longevity Dharani. He further entered the Vajra Longevity Samaya and formed a secret mudra to bless Maheśvara, restoring his health and increasing his lifespan. Maheśvara took refuge in all Buddhas, generated Bodhicitta, received empowerment and prediction, and attained the eighth Bhumi (stage of a Bodhisattva).
The Vajra Longevity Mantra is:
oṃ va jra yu ṣai svā hā
The Buddha told Vajrapani Bodhisattva, 'If there are good men and good women who receive, uphold, recite, and chant this mantra three times daily, a thousand times each time, all past and present evil karmic causes, short lifespans, and premature deaths will, by virtue of holding this mantra, have their faith purified, karmic obstacles eliminated, and their lifespans increased. If there are those who cultivate Samadhi, they will not need to transform their bodies born of their parents in this life, and they will attain the five supernormal powers, freely soaring through the sky.'
Next, he spoke of the Samadhi practice. Sit in the lotus position, close your eyes, and straighten your body. Place your hands one on top of the other or form the meditation mudra, resting them below your navel. In the empty space, visualize all the Buddhas clearly and distinctly. Then, within your own body, at the location of your heart, visualize a pure and full moon, its light radiant and clear. On top of the moon, there is the shape of a five-pronged vajra, expanding and blazing, gradually growing as large as your own body, transforming into the Trailokyavijaya Vajra Bodhisattva. On top of the Bodhisattva's head is Vairocana Buddha, from whose body, through every pore, flows white nectar, pouring into your own body. Then, in your heart, visualize Vajrasattva Bodhisattva, whose appearance is magnificent and supreme, with majestic virtue and freedom.
Next, form the secret Vajra Longevity Empowerment Armor Mudra. Make vajra fists with both hands, with the middle finger of the right hand pressing on the left, interlock them, and place them on top of your head. Then, recite the Longevity Mantra seven times, place the mudra on your forehead, separate the hands, and tie them behind your neck. After tying them behind your neck, directly extend the middle fingers, rotate them like a ring, down to your heart, intertwining them as if tying armor. Then, go to your back and tie them again, coming to your navel, both knees, behind your waist, as well as your heart, both shoulders, the front of your head, and the back of your head.
復至額前重系項后。金剛拳系漸垂兩手。徐徐而下如垂帶勢。當誦真言成被甲冑護身被甲真言曰。
oṃ ddhāṃ va jra yuḥ 唵(引)(一) 砧(謫簪切)(二) 嚩 日啰(二合) 欲(三)
由結密印加持威力。身如金剛堅固難壞。離諸災橫見者歡喜。一切人民生大恭敬。
次說護摩秘密之法。所謂除災延壽增益。吉祥富饒辯才無礙。乃至疫疾風雨等難。依法作之一切愿滿。護摩壇法有其四種。所謂方圓三角蓮華。隨其所求依方而坐。本尊形像依法畫之。涂壇軌儀如餘部說。我今略說除災延壽建壇之法。凈治一室堀深一肘。除去穢惡不凈之物灰骨瓦石。凈土填之。作一方壇量廣三肘。瞿摩塗飾如凈鏡面掘地之時若得余寶。是大吉祥殊勝之相。所求諸愿速得成就。若有異物。當取河岸凈土填之平治如法。以諸眾香和瞿摩夷重重塗飾。于壇中心用白粉。作一肘半金剛甲冑。中央穿作一肘火爐。或深半肘隨其所宜。若其不能穿之。取一火爐安於壇心亦得。印位華緣依位作之。設壇既了懸諸幡蓋。安置金剛三世尊像。供養之物華果飲食佈壇四周。護摩藥物置行者前。又以四瓶置壇四角。面對本尊依法念誦。先辦乳木長十指量粗如大指二十一。蘇揾兩頭爐中燒。炭火熾
盛。誦延命真言加持火木。每誦一遍一擲火中。火既熾已。于光焰中觀作八葉蓮華。于胎中當觀字。光明晃曜遍照成大金剛壽命菩薩。次以四字明引請菩薩。降入壇中受諸供養。四字密言曰。
jaḥ hūṃ vaṃ hoḥ 弱 吽 鑁 斛
即以右手作半金剛印。以水灑火令凈。次取一器盛滿融蘇。取骨蔞草一千八莖乃至一百八莖。以揾其蘇。誦壽命真言。隨其草數。一誦一擲于其火中。既擲盡已。次復燒擲諸香乳酪。如前唸誦課數畢已。滿杓傾蘇於火中。初后如是。若能於三長齋月或自生月乃至生日作是供養。能除災難增益壽命。具大福智勝愿圓滿。行來出入官位高遷。富饒財寶皆悉稱意。若求男女並及聰明。當候大陽虧時加持牛蘇服之。即得若加持九節菖蒲。令煙暖光等三相現已。而取服之即滿其愿。日誦萬言辯說無礙。若求陵空隱顯自在。當以牛黃一依前法無間加持。三相現已涂足點額。游空自在。更求餘一切諸愿。但于餘部隨心作之。悉皆成就無不遂者。亦使國土安寧無諸災疫。風雨以時人民安樂。一切賢聖擁護其身。廣說勝利不可窮盡。具如瑜伽經中廣說。
若作息災延壽法。面向北坐當作圓壇。觀諸聖眾悉皆白色。身著白衣供養白食。諸供養具一切皆白燒沉香。

【English Translation】 English version: Then, recite the Yanming Zhenyan (mantra for prolonging life) to bless the firewood. Each time you recite it, throw a piece of firewood into the fire. When the fire is blazing, visualize an eight-petaled lotus flower in the flames. Within the womb of the lotus, visualize the syllable 'A' (seed syllable). The light shines brightly, illuminating everything, accomplishing the Great Vajra Longevity Bodhisattva (a Vajra Bodhisattva symbolizing longevity). Next, use the Four Syllable Mantra to invite the Bodhisattva to descend into the mandala and receive the offerings. The secret Four Syllable Mantra is: jaḥ (弱) hūṃ (吽) vaṃ (鑁) hoḥ (斛) Then, make the Half Vajra Mudra with your right hand. Sprinkle water on the fire to purify it. Next, take a vessel filled with melted ghee. Take one thousand and eight stems of Ligusticum sinense, or even one hundred and eight stems, dip them in the ghee, and recite the Longevity Mantra. With each stem, recite the mantra once and throw it into the fire. After throwing all of them, burn offerings such as incense and dairy products. Recite as before, completing the prescribed number, then pour a full ladle of ghee into the fire. Do this at the beginning and the end. If you can make such offerings during the three months of fasting, or in your birth month, or even on your birthday, you can eliminate disasters, increase lifespan, possess great merit and wisdom, and fulfill your supreme wishes. Your travels will be smooth, your official position will be promoted, your wealth will be abundant, and everything will be as you wish. If you seek to have sons or daughters, as well as intelligence, you should bless cow's ghee during a solar eclipse and consume it, and your wish will be fulfilled. Or bless nine-sectioned calamus, and after the three auspicious signs of smoke, warmth, and light appear, consume it, and your wish will be fulfilled. Reciting ten thousand mantras daily will give you unobstructed eloquence. If you seek the freedom to fly in the sky, to become invisible and visible at will, you should use ox gallstone, continuously blessing it according to the previous method. After the three auspicious signs appear, apply it to your feet and forehead, and you will be free to fly in the sky. If you seek any other wishes, just follow your heart in other scriptures, and all will be accomplished, without anything unfulfilled. It will also bring peace to the country, without any disasters or epidemics, with timely wind and rain, and the people will be happy. All the sages will protect your body. The widely proclaimed victories are inexhaustible, as described in detail in the Yoga Sutra. If you are performing a pacifying and life-extending ritual, sit facing north and set up a circular mandala. Visualize all the holy beings as white, wearing white clothes, and offering white food. All the offering implements should be white, and burn aloeswood.
若作增益富饒法者。面向東坐。身及聖尊及身衣服。並及供養食果器物。一切黃色燒白檀香。
若作調伏法者。面向南坐。身及本尊衣服供具。一切盡皆深青黑色。燒安息香。

儀軌震部卷二。大明藏杜函所入。金剛壽命陀羅尼唸誦法。金剛智與沙門不空譯經。與此經同本。而脫落不少。今得天永元庚寅年。延寶四年五月。天明元辛丑年五月。三傳之本于智積院慈順僧正所檢閱。記其異冠。命工令壽。此本者。遍照金剛及慈覺智證三師之請來。實為善本。時享和改元辛酉年秋八月二十一之夜。校于燈下。

【English Translation】 English version If performing the method for increasing wealth and abundance, sit facing east. The body, the Holy One (referring to the deity being visualized or worshipped), the body's clothing, and the food, fruit, and implements offered, should all be yellow. Burn white sandalwood incense. If performing the method for subduing, sit facing south. The body, the principal deity (the main deity being practiced), clothing, and offerings should all be deep blue-black. Burn benzoin incense. If performing the method for love and respect, sit facing west. The body, the principal deity, clothing, and offerings should all be red. Burn storax and other incenses. The syllable 『字』 is the seed syllable of Samantabhadra longevity. The Vajra Longevity Dharani Sutra Method Ritual Zhen Section, Volume 2. Included in the Daming Collection, Du case.
