如是我聞。一時薄伽梵。在菩提樹下成正覺處大制多中。與大苾芻眾千二百五十人俱。其名曰具壽舍利子。具壽大目揵連。具壽阿難陀。如是大聲聞等而為上首。及與諸大菩薩眾俱。其名曰金剛幢菩薩。金剛藏菩薩。金剛手菩薩。慈氏菩薩。如是等於賢劫中一切菩薩摩訶薩眾而為上首。
爾時金剛手菩薩摩訶薩。白佛言世尊。唯愿如來應正等覺。為諸有情說擁護壽命微妙法門。由此法門與一切有情。作大光明作大覆護。令彼有情得無所畏。一切怨仇諸惡知識。若天若龍若藥叉。若羅剎若部多鬼。及鳩畔茶人非人等。彼終不能起于噁心而為嬈亂奪其精氣。若遇刀劍飲食毒藥。厭禱諸患不能為害。若有眾生行住坐臥。睡眠惛醉及以醒覺。於一切處我能守護。唯愿世尊利益一切諸有情故。演說如是種種神咒。如我常時于如來所親近承事恒不捨離。我今守護一切有情亦復如是。於一切時為義利故。為安樂故為饒益故。是故我今勸請如來。擁護一切諸善男子善女人住菩薩乘者。勿令斗諍罵辱毀訾心懷怨結。及諸病苦

【English Translation】 English version Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan (World-Honored One) was at the place of perfect enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, in a great stupa, together with a gathering of twelve hundred and fifty great Bhikshus (monks). Their names were: the Venerable Sariputra, the Venerable Maudgalyayana, the Venerable Ananda, these great Sravakas (disciples) being their leaders. And together with a gathering of great Bodhisattvas, their names were: Vajradhvaja Bodhisattva, Vajragarbha Bodhisattva, Vajrapani Bodhisattva, Maitreya Bodhisattva, these all the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas in this Bhadrakalpa (fortunate aeon) being their leaders. At that time, Vajrapani Bodhisattva-Mahasattva said to the Buddha: 'World-Honored One, may the Tathagata (Thus Come One), worthy and perfectly enlightened, speak for all sentient beings the subtle Dharma-gate of protecting life. Through this Dharma-gate, for all sentient beings, create great light, create great protection, so that they may be without fear. All enemies, all evil acquaintances, whether they be Devas (gods), Nagas (dragons), Yakshas (nature spirits), Rakshasas (demons), Bhutas (ghosts), Kumbhandas (a type of demon), humans or non-humans, they will ultimately not be able to generate evil intentions to disturb and seize their essence. If they encounter swords, food, poison, curses, or various calamities, they will not be harmed. If there are sentient beings walking, standing, sitting, lying down, sleeping, confused or awake, in all places, I can protect them. May the World-Honored One, for the benefit of all sentient beings, expound such various divine mantras. Just as I constantly attend to the Tathagata, never abandoning him, so too do I now protect all sentient beings. At all times for the sake of benefit, for the sake of peace, for the sake of enrichment. Therefore, I now implore the Tathagata to protect all good men and good women who abide in the Bodhisattva-yana (Bodhisattva vehicle), so that they may not experience strife, abuse, slander, harbor resentment, and suffer various illnesses.'
非時夭橫。金剛手菩薩摩訶薩如是請已。時薄伽梵告金剛手菩薩言。善哉善哉善男子。汝為利益諸有情故勸請如來。汝今諦聽善思念之我今為汝演說護命法門。名為善門。

【English Translation】 English version: Untimely and accidental calamities (Ahetu-marana). After Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahasattva had asked this, the Bhagavan (Blessed One) then said to Vajrapani Bodhisattva: 'Excellent, excellent, good son! For the sake of benefiting all sentient beings, you have requested the Tathagata (Thus Come One). Now listen carefully and contemplate well, I will now expound for you the Dharma-door of protecting life, called the Good Door.' Mantra: 'Tadyatha ukuru manguru ukurumabini panthani bharajamani bahuribahuri dahahu huruhuri bhandhaya svaha.' At that time, after the Tathagata had spoken this abhiseka (consecration) dharani mantra, the World Honored One again spoke the dharani mantra protected and念 by all the Buddhas, which is the Dharma-door of longevity. 爾時薄伽梵放大人相眉間光明。其光普曜諸佛剎土。由佛神變諸剎土中一切如來見此光明。各從自土俱時發趣索訶世界。到釋迦牟尼佛所。贊言善哉善哉釋迦牟尼佛。乃能利益擁護一切諸有情故。說此法門陀羅尼咒。能作光明令得歡喜令得正念。是故我今稱揚讚歎。若有善男子善女人。于晨朝時受持讀誦此陀羅尼神咒句義。當獲二十種功德。一者當得諸佛之所攝受。二者常為諸佛之所憶念。三者當得永離受惡趣業。四者

The Buddha told Vajrapani Bodhisattva-Mahasattva (Mahāsattva, great being): 'This life-protecting good gate Dharani mantra was previously spoken and protected by the Tathagatas Arhats Samyak-saṃbuddhas (Tathāgata Arhat Samyak-saṃbuddha, Thus Come One, Worthy One, Rightly and Fully Awakened One) of the past. They made great vows and truly established it. Now, I also make great vows and truly establish it for the benefit and compassion of all sentient beings. Therefore, I speak this Dharani mantra.'
At that time, the Bhagavan (Bhagavan, World Honored One) emitted light from the space between his eyebrows, a mark of a great man (Lakshana, one of the 32 marks of the Buddha). This light universally illuminated all Buddha-kshetras (Buddha-kshetra, Buddha-field). Due to the Buddha's miraculous power, all the Tathagatas (Tathāgata) in the various Buddha-fields saw this light and simultaneously set out from their respective lands towards the Sahā World. Arriving at the place of Shakyamuni Buddha (Śākyamuni Buddha), they praised, 'Excellent! Excellent! Shakyamuni Buddha! You are able to benefit and protect all sentient beings, therefore you speak this Dharma-gate Dharani mantra, which can bring light, bring joy, and bring right mindfulness. Therefore, I now praise and extol it.' If a good man or good woman recites and upholds the meaning of this Dharani mantra in the morning, they will obtain twenty kinds of merits: First, they will be received and protected by all the Buddhas; second, they will always be remembered by all the Buddhas; third, they will be forever free from the karma of falling into evil realms; fourth,

One will diligently cultivate good deeds. One will obtain light, joy, and right mindfulness. One will obtain all the auspicious marks. One will obtain fearlessness. One will obtain the complete precepts (Śīla). One will accomplish all good roots. One will obtain the protection of the devas. One will obtain the protection of the nāgas (dragons). One will obtain the protection of the yakṣas. One will be loved and respected by all the world. One will quickly attain Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi (unexcelled perfect enlightenment). The Buddha told Vajrapāṇi: 'I now speak this dhāraṇī mantra, which is the secret place of all the Buddhas, the Tathāgatas (Thus Come Ones), the Arhats (worthy ones), the Samyak-saṃbuddhas (perfectly enlightened ones), and is protected by all the Buddhas.' 【English Translation】 English version: Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva said: 'Excellent, excellent, good man! You are now speaking this dhāraṇī-mantra, accomplishing the most supreme merit, which has great meaning and benefit. For the sake of protecting all sentient beings, I will emit my majestic light from all their pores, so that they may obtain peace and happiness.'
At that time, Brahmā, the lord of the Sahā world, immediately rose from his seat, joined his palms respectfully towards the Buddha, and said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, I will now also speak a dhāraṇī-mantra for the benefit and protection of all good men and good women.'
'Tadyathā, hiṃ hūṃ (1), miri (2), jiri (3), svāhā (4). bhraṃ bhraṃ he mahā pūṃ hūṃ (5), svāhā (6). bhraṃ bhraṃ he mahā sava hūṃ (7), svāhā (8). bhraṃ bhraṃ he mahā vikhye (9), su gate vikhye (10), puṣpa saṃsāra hūṃ hūṃ (11), svāhā (12).'

At that time, Indra, the Lord of the Devas, said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, I will now also speak a dhāraṇī for the protection and benefit of all good men and good women. May the Tathāgata have compassion and protect them. If there is anyone who can uphold this good gate of life protection, they should remember and recite it in the morning.'

If there is anyone who can receive and uphold this life-protecting Dharma gate, they should rise in the morning and recite it.'

At that time, Bhagavan (Bhagavan, The Blessed One) Sakyamuni Buddha extended his right arm of true golden color and praised Śakra (Śakra, Lord of the Devas), Brahmā (Brahmā, the Creator) and the Four Great Kings, saying: 'Excellent! Excellent! You devas, have compassion and protect all sentient beings. I will protect you with my divine power and proclaim this Dharani mantra.'
At that time, Bhagavan further said to Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahāsattva: 'If there is anyone, whether a good man or a good woman, who can receive and uphold this life-protecting Dharma-method Dharani divine mantra, reciting and upholding it in the morning, that person should be protected by all Buddhas and all Bodhisattvas, and even by all Nāgas (Nāga), Yakshas (Yaksa), Asuras (Asura), Garudas (Garuda), Kinnaras (Kinnara), and Mahoragas (Mahoraga).' At that time, after Bhagavan finished speaking this sutra, Vajrapani Bodhisattva Mahāsattva, as well as Śakra, Brahmā, the World-Protecting Devas, Asuras, Gandharvas (Gandharva), and all the assembly, hearing what the Buddha said, rejoiced and practiced accordingly.
