如是我聞。一時世尊在喜樂山頂天宮不遠仙人住處。與大比丘眾五百人俱。復有菩薩摩訶薩眾。此諸菩薩皆是一生得成無上正等菩提。其名曰。

慈氏菩薩摩訶薩。普賢菩薩摩訶薩。無邊華菩薩摩訶薩。普遍華菩薩摩訶薩。虛空藏菩薩摩訶薩。如是等菩薩摩訶薩五百人俱。

爾時世尊及諸菩薩。見彼山下河邊林中。有二比丘裸形舒手叫喚啼泣是時虛空藏菩薩摩訶薩。即從座起偏袒右肩。右膝著地合掌恭敬。白佛言世尊。殑伽河邊彼二比丘。何因何緣裸形舒手叫喚啼泣。

爾時世尊告虛空藏菩薩摩訶薩言。彼二比丘疾病所纏部多所執是故裸形叫喚啼泣。

是時虛空藏菩薩摩訶薩。白佛言世尊如是疾病云何消除。如是部多雲何除遣。

爾時世尊以神通力召集諸佛。時虛空中現六如來。為欲證明第七世尊釋迦牟尼如來法故。

如是我聞。一時,世尊在喜樂山頂天宮不遠的仙人住處。與五百位大比丘眾在一起。還有菩薩摩訶薩眾。這些菩薩都是一生就能成就無上正等菩提的。他們的名字是:

這時,虛空藏菩薩摩訶薩,對佛說:『世尊,這樣的疾病要怎樣消除?這樣的部多要怎樣驅除?』

這時,世尊用神通力召集諸佛。這時,虛空中顯現六位如來。爲了證明第七世尊釋迦牟尼如來(Śākyamuni Tathāgata)的法。

The Holy Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva Dhāraṇī Sūtra

Translated by the Tripiṭaka Master Shramana Fa Tian, recipient of the Purple Robe, from Nālandā Monastery in Magadha, Central India, under Imperial Decree.

Thus have I heard. At one time, the World-Honored One was dwelling on the summit of Mount Joy, not far from the hermitage of the immortals in the heavenly palace. He was accompanied by a gathering of five hundred great bhikshus. There were also bodhisattvas mahāsattvas present. These bodhisattvas were all those who would attain Anuttarā-Samyak-Saṃbodhi in this very lifetime. Their names were:

Maitreya Bodhisattva Mahāsattva. Samantabhadra Bodhisattva Mahāsattva. Anantapuṣpa Bodhisattva Mahāsattva. Samantapuṣpa Bodhisattva Mahāsattva. Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva Mahāsattva. Thus, there were five hundred bodhisattvas mahāsattvas in attendance.

At that time, the World-Honored One and the bodhisattvas saw two bhikshus below the mountain, by the riverbank in the forest, naked, stretching out their hands, crying and weeping. Then, Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva Mahāsattva immediately arose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, knelt on his right knee, joined his palms in reverence, and said to the Buddha: 'World-Honored One, what is the cause, what is the reason that those two bhikshus by the Ganges River are naked, stretching out their hands, crying and weeping?'

Then, the World-Honored One said to Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva Mahāsattva: 'Those two bhikshus are afflicted by illness and possessed by bhūtas (ghosts), therefore they are naked, crying and weeping.'

Then, Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva Mahāsattva said to the Buddha: 'World-Honored One, how can such illnesses be eliminated? How can such bhūtas be expelled?'

Then, the World-Honored One, with his supernatural power, summoned all the Buddhas. At that time, six Tathāgatas appeared in the sky, in order to attest to the Dharma of the seventh World-Honored One, Śākyamuni Tathāgata.

Then, Vipaśyi Tathāgata, in order to benefit all sentient beings, eliminate illnesses, and expel bhūtas, joyfully proclaimed the dhāraṇī, saying:

爾時尸企如來。為欲利益一切眾生。消除疾病祛遣部多。隨喜宣說陀羅尼曰。

At that time, Vipasyin Buddha, having spoken this mantra, said to Akasagarbha Bodhisattva Mahasattva: 'If there are those who receive, uphold, recite, and make offerings to this dharani, know that these people will be free from illness and suffering, will not be harmed by weapons, will not be drowned by water, will not be harmed by poison, and will not die prematurely. Their food will be free from problems, they will obtain retentive memory, and their lifespan will be long. At all times, they will be protected by all the Buddhas. If someone is deaf, anoint oil seven times with this mantra and drip it into the ear, and it will naturally be cured.' At that time, Sikhin Buddha, desiring to benefit all sentient beings, eliminate diseases, and dispel Bhutas (ghosts and spirits), joyfully proclaimed the dharani, saying: Homage to the Buddha! Homage to the Dharma! Homage to the Sangha! Om! Paca Paca! Paca Pacaya! Sarva Bhutanam! Cinnikireya! Paravidyanam! Svaha! At that time, Sikhin Buddha, having spoken this mantra, said to Akasagarbha Bodhisattva Mahasattva: 'This heart-seal great dharani of mine is proclaimed in unison by hundreds of thousands of kotis of countless Buddhas. If there are sentient beings who, day and night, at the six times, remember and uphold this heart dharani of mine, illnesses will be eliminated, ghosts and spirits will be driven away, bad dreams will be dispelled, they will be forever free from premature death, calamities will not invade, poison cannot harm them, they will see the Tathagata in dreams, and enter the realm of the Buddha.' If someone has wind-phlegm, or a child-ghost disease, tie a blue thread, anoint Sumanas (a type of flower) with the mantra and wear it on the body, recite the mantra by the ear, at all times...


愿皆除滅。

爾時毗舍浮如來。為欲利益一切眾生消除疾病祛遣部多。隨喜宣說陀羅尼曰。

是時毗舍浮如來說是明已。告虛空藏菩薩摩訶薩言。汝今諦聽此陀羅尼。賢劫如來三世諸佛同共宣說若有受持讀誦供養此陀羅尼者。當知彼人器杖不傷毒不能害。無諸疾病水不能漂。亦無中夭宿業消除。

若有比丘比丘尼優婆塞優婆夷。先當洗浴住世尊前。誦持此明滿八百遍一切疾病一切嬈惱不能侵害。獲得長命盡諸煩惱。當得庫藏財谷甚多。

若惡眾生一切怖畏。思惟唸誦此陀羅尼怖畏消除獲得愛樂。

若有一切斗諍論義。白線作結誦陀羅尼一切和合。

若患眼痛乳樹作線。誦陀羅尼繫於頸上即得除愈。

如果惡劣的眾生有各種怖畏,思惟唸誦這個陀羅尼,怖畏消除,獲得喜悅。

如果有一切爭鬥辯論,用白線打結,誦持陀羅尼,一切都能和合。

At that time, Vipashyin Tathagata (one of the seven Buddhas of the past), wishing to benefit all sentient beings, eliminate diseases, and dispel evil spirits, joyfully proclaimed the Dharani, which is as follows:

Namo Buddhaya (I take refuge in the Buddha), Namo Dharmaya (I take refuge in the Dharma), Namah Sanghaya (I take refuge in the Sangha), Om (seed syllable), Kara Kara, Kara Kara, Kuru Saranam Kuru, Sarva Grahah Kshaya (Subdue all planets), Svaha (accomplishment).

At that time, Vipashyin, having spoken this mantra, said to Akasagarbha Bodhisattva Mahasattva: 'Now listen carefully to this Dharani. The Tathagatas of the Bhadrakalpa, the Buddhas of the three times (past, present, and future) jointly proclaim that if anyone upholds, recites, and makes offerings to this Dharani, know that this person will not be harmed by weapons, poison cannot harm them, they will be free from all diseases, will not be drowned by water, and will not die prematurely, and past karmic obstacles will be eliminated.'

If there are bhikshus (monks), bhikshunis (nuns), upasakas (laymen), or upasikas (laywomen), they should first bathe and, in front of the Bhagavan (World Honored One), recite this mantra eight hundred times. All diseases and all afflictions cannot harm them. They will obtain longevity, exhaust all煩惱 (kleshas, afflictions), and will obtain abundant treasures and grains.

If evil beings have all kinds of fears, contemplating and reciting this Dharani will eliminate fears and obtain joy.

If there are all kinds of disputes and arguments, tie knots with white thread and recite the Dharani, and everything will be harmonized.

If suffering from eye pain, use the sap of a milk tree to make a thread, recite the Dharani and tie it around the neck, and it will be immediately cured.

If one sees armies facing each other, take honey, curd, ghee, and Apamarga (a type of herb), and with each recitation, throw them into the fire for homa, completing eight thousand recitations. All armies will withdraw and retreat, and life will be prolonged.

If a king or minister seeks peace and stability, perform homa with curd, honey, and rice flowers in the fire eight thousand times, they will be happy in body and mind in all places. If for oneself and all sentient beings, to eliminate the evil karma, disasters, and sins of the five skandhas (aggregates), not...

【English Translation】 English version: If a Ni Upasaka (male lay devotee) or Upasika (female lay devotee) uses incense, flowers, and scented paste to make offerings to the Three Jewels (Triratna), bathes, and resolves to recite this Dharani (Dharani) before the World-Honored One (Buddha), they will attain knowledge of past lives (Purvanivasanusmriti-jnana) after reciting it eight hundred times. They will be reborn in the heavens seven times as sons of the gods. Reborn in the human realm, they will become a Wheel-Turning King (Chakravartin, an ideal monarch who rules the world). If they do not follow the proper method but recite it casually, they will still be constantly reborn in the human realm. After dying in the human realm, they will be reborn in the Land of Bliss (Sukhavati, the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss). If they bless various foods seven times, all diseases will be far away. If they wish to eliminate all ghosts and eight thousand obstacles, they should first bathe and then recite this mantra twenty-one times. At that time, Kanakamuni Tathagata, having spoken this mantra, said to Akasagarbha Bodhisattva Mahasattva: 'If there are those who receive, uphold, recite, and constantly make offerings to this dharani, know that such persons will not be harmed by any fears of knives, staves, water, or fire, evil magic spells, or various poisons, nor will they die prematurely. All karmic obstacles created in previous lives will be eliminated by reciting it three times a day (morning, noon, and evening).』 Furthermore, for scabies, leprosy, persistent ailments, and malignant tumors, grind sweet flag (菖蒲) into powder, mix it with honey to make pills, and perform a homa (fire ritual) in the fire for eight thousand times. Also, for malaria that occurs on the first, second, third, or fourth day, bless Jati-sumana flowers and wear them on the body. Also, for deafness, recite the mantra near the ear. Also, for epilepsy and Kataghata ghost disease, bless Buddha flowers and wear them on the body. 若復有人患白癩病。加持佛華滿八千遍。若常熱病加持佛華滿八千遍。若病初得加持佛華。滿八千遍身上帶持。一切時中愿皆除滅。

若復女人懷孕難生。加持佛華油煎涂用。若皮風瘡加持佛華酥煎塗上。若復癰腫及諸痔瘺。加持佛華好蜜一處用涂瘡上。

若復瘧病一日二日三日四日。食香食華一切鬼病。或復癲癇加持佛華身上帶持。如是等病明力加持。一切時中愿皆除滅。

'If someone suffers from vitiligo, they can chant over Buddha flowers eight thousand times. If they have a persistent fever, they can chant over Buddha flowers eight thousand times. If the illness is newly acquired, they can chant over Buddha flowers eight thousand times and carry them on their body, so that all suffering will be eliminated at all times.'

'If a woman has a difficult childbirth, she can fry Buddha flowers in oil and apply it. If it is a skin rash, she can fry Buddha flowers in ghee and apply it. If it is a carbuncle, swelling, or various hemorrhoids and fistulas, she can mix Buddha flowers with good honey and apply it to the sore.'

'If it is malaria, recurring on one day, two days, three days, or four days, or illnesses caused by eating fragrant substances or flowers, or various ghost-caused illnesses, or epilepsy, they can carry the blessed Buddha flowers on their body. Through the power of this mantra, all such illnesses will be eliminated at all times.'

At that time, Śākyamuni Tathāgata, wishing to benefit all sentient beings, eliminate diseases, and dispel evil spirits, spoke this heart-seal dhāraṇī, which is as follows:

At that time, after the World Honored One finished expounding this Dharma, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Akasagarbha (Akasagarbha, the Bodhisattva who embodies the boundless space) and all the great assembly, having heard what the Buddha had spoken, received it wholeheartedly, accepted it with joy, and practiced it accordingly.
