如是我聞。一時薄伽梵。在憍餉彌國建礫迦林。與大苾芻眾五百人俱。菩薩摩訶薩俱胝數及諸天人阿素洛等無量大眾前後圍繞。時彼國中有一長者名為妙月。容範溫華志韻閑遠。男女僮僕其數眾多。于佛法僧深生敬信。來詣佛所頂禮佛足。繞百千匝卻住一面。合掌恭敬而白佛言。世尊欲問如來應正等覺少所疑事。唯愿大慈垂愍聽許。
爾時世尊哀愍彼故。以慈軟音告言。長者恣汝意問。吾當為汝方便分別令汝心喜。時彼長者歡喜踴躍。稽首作禮合掌請言。世尊云何善男子善女人。諸貧賤者可令得富貴。諸有病者可令病癒。諸有罪者可令罪滅。諸危懼者可令安樂。
爾時世尊知而故問。長者何緣作如是請。時彼長者重白佛言。世尊我等在家多諸眷屬。資財乏少難可週濟。又多疹疾罪累危懼。故請世尊開示方便。令貧賤者得大財位。周給親屬廣修惠施。鐃益一切倉庫無盡。令有病者四大康和。勤修善業身心無惓。令有罪者速得除滅。身壞命終生於善趣。令危懼者身心安樂。親近供養佛法僧寶。速證無上正等菩提。

這時,世尊因為哀愍他的緣故,用慈悲柔和的聲音告訴他說:『長者,隨你的意願發問吧,我將為你方便地分別解說,使你心生歡喜。』當時,那位長者歡喜踴躍,稽首作禮,合掌請問說:『世尊,如何能使善男子、善女人,那些貧賤的人能夠得到富貴?如何能使有病的人能夠痊癒?如何能使有罪的人能夠罪業消滅?如何能使有危懼的人能夠得到安樂?』
這時,世尊明知故問:『長者,你因為什麼緣故作這樣的請求呢?』當時,那位長者再次對佛說:『世尊,我們這些在家之人,有很多眷屬,資財缺少,難以賙濟。又多有疾病、罪業纏身和危難恐懼。所以懇請世尊開示方便之法,使貧賤的人能夠得到大的財富和地位,賙濟親屬,廣泛地行惠施,饒益一切眾生,倉庫永遠不會空虛。使有病的人四大調和康復,勤奮地修習善業,身心沒有疲倦。使有罪的人迅速地得到罪業的消除,身壞命終之後,能夠往生到善道。使有危懼的人身心安樂,親近供養佛法僧三寶,迅速地證得無上正等菩提(anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi,無上正等覺)。』
【English Translation】 English version The Dhāraṇī Scripture of Upholding the World
Translated by Tripiṭaka Master Xuanzang of the Great Tang Dynasty under Imperial Decree
Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan (World-Honored One) was in the Ghaṇṭikāra-vana (Ghaṇṭikāra Grove) in the country of Kauśāmbī. He was with a large assembly of five hundred Bhikṣus (monks), as well as countless Bodhisattva-Mahāsattvas (great Bodhisattvas), and surrounded by immeasurable multitudes of Devas (gods), humans, Asuras (demigods), and others. At that time, in that country, there was a householder named Wonderful Moon, whose appearance was gentle and refined, and whose aspirations were lofty and distant. He had many male and female servants, and he had deep reverence and faith in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. He came to the Buddha's place, prostrated himself at the Buddha's feet, circumambulated him hundreds of thousands of times, and then stood to one side. With palms joined in reverence, he said to the Buddha, 'World-Honored One, I wish to ask the Tathāgata Arhat Samyak-Saṃbuddha (Thus-Come One, Worthy One, Perfectly Enlightened One) about some matters of doubt. May the Greatly Compassionate One deign to listen and permit me.'
At that time, the World-Honored One, out of compassion for him, spoke in a gentle and kind voice, saying, 'Householder, ask whatever you wish. I will explain it for you in a way that will bring you joy.' Then, that householder rejoiced and leaped with joy. He bowed his head, made obeisance, and asked with palms joined, 'World-Honored One, how can good men and good women, those who are poor and lowly, attain wealth and nobility? How can those who are sick be healed? How can those who have committed sins have their sins eradicated? How can those who are fearful attain peace and happiness?'
At that time, the World-Honored One, knowing the answer, deliberately asked, 'Householder, for what reason do you make such a request?' Then, that householder replied to the Buddha, 'World-Honored One, we householders have many family members, and our resources are scarce, making it difficult to provide for them. Moreover, we are often afflicted by illnesses, burdened by sins, and filled with fear. Therefore, I beseech the World-Honored One to reveal a means by which the poor and lowly can attain great wealth and status, provide for their relatives, extensively practice generosity, benefit all beings, and have inexhaustible storehouses. May those who are sick have their four elements in harmony and good health, diligently cultivate good deeds, and have no weariness in body or mind. May those who have committed sins quickly have their sins eradicated, and after their bodies are destroyed and their lives end, be reborn in good realms. May those who are fearful have peace and happiness in body and mind, draw near to and make offerings to the Triple Gem of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and quickly attain Anuttarā-Samyak-Saṃbodhi (Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment).'
爾時世尊告彼長者。善男子我於過去無數劫前遇佛世尊。名持金剛海音如來應正等覺明行圓滿善逝世間解無上丈夫調御士天人師佛薄伽梵。為欲利樂諸有情故。說陀羅尼名曰持世。我時聞已歡喜踴躍。受持讀誦廣為他說。利益安樂無量有情。由是因緣福慧增長。速證無上正等菩提。為諸天人說微妙法。今為汝說此陀羅尼。汝天人等皆應諦聽。聞已受持廣為他說。此神咒力不可思議。令諸有情皆獲利樂。陀羅尼曰。

【English Translation】 English version: At that time, the World Honored One told the elder: 'Good man, in the past countless kalpas, I encountered a Buddha, the World Honored One named Holder of the Vajra Sea Sound Tathagata (持金剛海音如來). He was worthy of offerings, perfectly enlightened, complete in knowledge and conduct, well-gone, understanding the world, unsurpassed husband, tamer of beings, teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Bhagavan (薄伽梵). For the sake of benefiting and bringing joy to all sentient beings, he spoke a dharani named Holder of the World (持世). At that time, after hearing it, I rejoiced and danced, accepted, recited, and widely proclaimed it to others, benefiting and bringing joy to immeasurable sentient beings. Because of this cause, my blessings and wisdom increased, and I quickly attained unsurpassed perfect enlightenment (Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, 無上正等菩提), and spoke the subtle Dharma for gods and humans. Now I will speak this dharani for you. You gods and humans should all listen carefully. After hearing it, accept, recite, and widely proclaim it to others. The power of this divine mantra is inconceivable, and it can enable all sentient beings to obtain benefit and joy.' 此陀羅尼具大神力。若有善男子善女人。至心受持廣為他說。諸惡神鬼天龍藥叉。人非人等皆不能害。諸利樂事晝夜增長。若能至誠供養三寶。唸誦如是大陀羅尼。經七晝夜時無暫闕。諸天龍神皆生歡喜。自末冥雨所須財谷。饑饉疫癘皆悉消除。所有罪障無不殄滅。一切危懼並得安寧。福慧漸增所求如意。速證無上正覺菩提。
爾時佛告妙月長者。汝應信受此陀羅尼。憶念誦持廣為他說。所求利樂無不諧遂。時彼長者聞佛所說。歡喜踴躍而白佛言。我能受持廣為他說。利益安樂無量有情。唯愿世尊慈悲護念。世尊告曰如是如是。時彼長者合掌恭敬。右繞世尊百千匝已。頂禮佛足歡喜而去。
爾時世尊告阿難曰。妙月長者諸庫藏中。種種財谷今悉盈滿。尊者阿難歡喜白佛。何因緣故妙月長者。諸庫藏中欻然盈滿。佛告阿難妙月長者。聞我所說大陀羅尼。深信歡喜受持讀誦。愿為無量有情宣說。由斯福力庫藏皆。滿汝等亦應受持讀誦廣為他說此陀羅尼。令此三千大千世界。諸有情類皆得利樂。我觀世間天魔梵等。無能毀越此陀羅尼。文句正真不可壞故。諸薄福者不可得聞。所以者何如是章句。三世諸佛同所稱揚。以不思議神力加被。令聞持者皆獲利樂。尊者阿難深心

【English Translation】 English version He Sarva Sattva Binayem Anusata Samoha
This Dharani possesses great divine power. If there are good men or good women who sincerely receive and uphold it, and widely proclaim it to others, then all evil gods, ghosts, dragons, Yakshas (Yaksha, a type of guardian deity), non-humans, and others will be unable to harm them. All beneficial and joyful things will increase day and night. If one can sincerely make offerings to the Triple Gem (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha), and recite this great Dharani for seven days and nights without interruption, then all the gods and dragons will rejoice, and naturally bestow the needed wealth and grains. Famine and epidemics will be eliminated, all sins and obstacles will be extinguished, all dangers and fears will be pacified, blessings and wisdom will gradually increase, all wishes will be fulfilled, and one will quickly attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, unsurpassed perfect enlightenment).
At that time, the Buddha told the Elder Wonderful Moon, 'You should believe and accept this Dharani, remember and recite it, and widely proclaim it to others, so that all your desired benefits and joys will be fulfilled.' At that time, the Elder, hearing what the Buddha said, rejoiced and exclaimed to the Buddha, 'I am able to receive and uphold it, and widely proclaim it to others, benefiting and bringing joy to countless sentient beings. I only hope that the World Honored One will compassionately protect and remember me.' The World Honored One replied, 'So it is, so it is.' At that time, the Elder joined his palms in reverence, circumambulated the World Honored One hundreds of thousands of times, prostrated at the Buddha's feet, and departed with joy.
At that time, the World Honored One told Ananda (Ananda, one of the Buddha's ten great disciples), 'The various treasuries of the Elder Wonderful Moon are now filled with all kinds of wealth and grains.' Venerable Ananda joyfully said to the Buddha, 'For what reason are the various treasuries of the Elder Wonderful Moon suddenly filled?' The Buddha told Ananda, 'The Elder Wonderful Moon heard the great Dharani I spoke, deeply believed and rejoiced, received, upheld, and recited it, and vowed to proclaim it to countless sentient beings. Because of this merit, the treasuries are all filled. You should also receive, uphold, and recite this Dharani, and widely proclaim it to others, so that all sentient beings in this three-thousand great-thousand world may obtain benefit and joy. I see that among the gods, demons, Brahmas, and others in the world, none can destroy this Dharani, because its words and phrases are true and indestructible. Those with little merit cannot hear it. Why is this? Because such verses are praised by all the Buddhas of the three times, and are blessed by inconceivable divine power, so that those who hear and uphold them may obtain benefit and joy.' 歡喜。以妙伽陀而讚頌曰。
諸佛不思議 所說法亦爾 能正奉行者 果報亦復然 一切智法王 滅生老病死 已到勝彼岸 稽首大覺尊
爾時阿難踴躍歡喜。禮佛合掌白言世尊。今此法門當名何等。我等今者云何奉持。佛告阿難。此名妙月長者所問。亦名能感一切財位。亦名愈疾亦名滅罪。亦名能除一切危懼。亦名諸佛同所稱揚。亦名諸佛神力加被。亦名持世陀羅尼經。汝當奉行勿令忘失。利益安樂一切有情。
時薄伽梵說此經已。無量聲聞及諸菩薩。並諸天人阿素洛等。一切大眾聞佛所說。皆大歡喜信受奉行。

這時,薄伽梵(Bhagavan,佛)說完這部經后,無量的聲聞(Sravaka,聽聞佛法而證悟的弟子)以及諸位菩薩(Bodhisattva,發願普度眾生的修行者),還有諸天、人和阿修羅(Asura,一種神道)等一切大眾,聽聞佛陀所說,都非常歡喜,信受奉行。

【English Translation】 English version: With joy, he praised with a wonderful Gatha (Gatha, verse):
The Buddhas are inconceivable, and so is the Dharma (Dharma, teachings) they teach. Those who can rightly practice it, their karmic rewards are also like this. The Dharma King (Dharmaraja, Buddha) of all wisdom, extinguishes birth, old age, sickness, and death, Having reached the supreme other shore (Nirvana, Nirvana), I bow my head to the Great Awakened One (Buddha, Buddha).
At that time, Ananda (Ananda, one of the ten great disciples of the Buddha) leaped with joy, prostrated himself before the Buddha, joined his palms, and said, 'World Honored One, what should this Dharma gate be called? How should we uphold it now?' The Buddha told Ananda, 'This is called 'The Question of the Elder Wonderful Moon,' also called 'That Which Can Attract All Wealth and Position,' also called 'Healing Sickness,' also called 'Eliminating Sins,' also called 'That Which Can Remove All Fears,' also called 'That Which All Buddhas Praise Together,' also called 'That Which is Blessed by the Divine Power of All Buddhas,' also called 'The Dharani Sutra (Dharani Sutra, a type of Buddhist scripture) for Upholding the World.' You should uphold it, do not forget it, and benefit and bring peace and happiness to all sentient beings.'
At this time, after the Bhagavan (Bhagavan, Buddha) finished speaking this Sutra, countless Sravakas (Sravaka, disciples who attain enlightenment by hearing the Dharma) and Bodhisattvas (Bodhisattva, practitioners who vow to liberate all beings), as well as all the devas (devas, gods), humans, asuras (Asura, a type of deity), and other great assemblies, hearing what the Buddha said, were all greatly delighted, believed, accepted, and practiced it.
