(Vasudhārā-dhāraṇī)。』 English version: Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan (Blessed One) was dwelling in the Kaṇṭakavana (forest of thorns) in the country of Kauśāmbī. He was with a great assembly of five hundred Bhikṣus (monks), and also with many great Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas (great Bodhisattvas). At that time, in the country of Kauśāmbī, there was a householder named Candramati (Moon of Wisdom). His senses were tranquil, his mind was peaceful, and he had many men, women, and servants. He was accomplished in pure faith. He went to the place where the Buddha was, bowed his head to the ground at the Buddha's feet, circumambulated the Buddha a hundred thousand times, and stood to one side. He joined his palms together respectfully and said to the Buddha, 'World Honored One, I wish to ask the Tathāgata arhat samyak-saṃbuddha (Thus Come One, worthy one, perfectly enlightened one) about some matters of doubt. I hope that the greatly compassionate World Honored One will mercifully listen and permit me.' At that time, the World Honored One said to the householder, 'Ask whatever you wish. I will explain it to you and make your heart rejoice.' When that householder heard these words, he rejoiced and was filled with joy. 'World Honored One, how can good men and good women who are poor become wealthy, and how can those who are sick be free from illness?' At that time, the World Honored One said to the householder Candramati, 'Why do you ask such a question?' At that time, that householder said to the Buddha again, 'World Honored One, we householders have many family members. Our resources are scarce and difficult to sustain. Moreover, we have many illnesses. I hope that the World Honored One will reveal the essential Dharma so that the poor may be forever free from poverty, and the storehouses may be filled with treasures. We can support our wives, children, and family members, and those who come seeking help will be pleased. We can become great benefactors, and our storehouses will be filled with gold, silver, jewels, cintāmaṇi (wish-fulfilling jewel), vajra (diamond), and various treasures such as śaṅkha (conch shells), śilā (stones or gems), red pearls, agate, and other gold and silver treasures, abundant and inexhaustible. We can provide for our relatives, extensively practice generosity, and benefit sentient beings.' At that time, the World Honored One said to the householder Candramati, 'Good man, in the past, countless asaṃkhya-kalpas (incalculable eons) ago, I encountered a Buddha World Honored One named Vajradhara-samudraghoṣa-tathāgata-arhat-samyak-saṃbuddha (Vajradhara-samudraghoṣa Thus Come One, worthy one, perfectly enlightened one). From that Tathāgata, I received this Vasudhārā-dhāraṇī (Rain of Treasures Dharani).'

【English Translation】 English version Roni. To receive, uphold, read, recite, contemplate, remember, rejoice, and widely explain and disseminate it for others. By the majestic power of this Dharani, if there are virtuous men, as well as non-humans, Yakshas (Yaksa, a type of demigod), Rakshas (Raksa, a demon), Pretas (Preta, hungry ghosts), Pisacas (Pisaca, flesh-eating demons), Kumbhandas (Kumbhanda, a type of demon), Ushtarakas, Putanas (Putana, a type of demon), Kataputanas, and others who harbor evil intentions, they will not be able to cause harm. Furthermore, various ghosts who desire to devour human fat, marrow, pus, blood, mucus, saliva, urine, and feces to cause trouble will not be able to create obstacles. The Buddha told Wonderful Moon, 'If there are virtuous men who mindfully recite, hold, and write this Dharani, and merely hear its name, receive, uphold, rejoice, and widely expound it for others, then these virtuous men and women will have peace and happiness throughout the long night, and will be secure and prosperous for the sake of the provisions for Yoga. If someone wishes to receive and uphold this 'Rain of Jewels Dharani,' they should make offerings to all the Tathagatas for one night, two nights, or three nights, and recite it with focused attention. Being respected, pure, and trusting in the Triple Gem, all the devas will rejoice, and they will rain down treasures, grains, and wheat for the sake of the Dharma master who recites it.' Then, the Dharani was spoken: Namo Bhagavate Vajradhara Sagaranirghoshaya Tathagataya Tadyatha Om Surupe Bhadravati Mangala Achale Achapale Udghatani Udbhedani Sasyavati Dhanyavati Dhanavati Shrimati Prabhavati Amale Vemale Ruru Surupe Vemale Anatataste Vidatataste Vishva

The Buddha told the Elder Wonderful Moon: 'This is called the 'Rain of Treasures Dharani'. By the power of this Dharani, sickness, famine, epidemics, and karmic obstacles will all be eliminated. If a good man or good woman should first make offerings to all the Tathagatas, and then recite and uphold this Dharani without interruption for one day and one night, treasures will rain down in their home, as large as an adult. All disasters will be extinguished. Therefore, good man, you should receive and uphold this 'Rain of Treasures Dharani' and widely explain it to others.'

'Excellent, World Honored One!' The Elder Wonderful Moon, hearing what the Buddha said, rejoiced and leaped for joy. 'I will now receive this 'Rain of Treasures Dharani' from the Buddha, receive, uphold, recite, and widely explain it to others.' At that time, the Elder Wonderful Moon, having received the Buddha's teaching, circumambulated the World Honored One hundreds of thousands of times, joined his palms respectfully, bowed his head to the ground at the Buddha's feet, and departed with joy.

At that time, the Buddha told the Venerable Ananda (Ananda, one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha): 'Go to the home of the Elder Wonderful Moon and see if the various storehouses of that Elder are now filled with all kinds of wealth, grains, precious objects, and provisions.' At that time, the Venerable Ananda, having received the Buddha's teaching, went to the great city of Kausambi (Kausambi, an ancient Indian city) and to the home of the Elder Wonderful Moon. Upon entering, he saw that all the storehouses were filled with treasures. Having seen this, he was greatly pleased and returned with joy.

At that time, the Venerable Ananda felt strange, unprecedented, and very happy, and he said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, for what reason are the storehouses in the home of the Elder Wonderful Moon filled?' The Buddha said: 'Good man, the Elder Wonderful Moon has pure faith in me and upholds this 'Rain of Treasures Dharani', proclaiming it to all sentient beings. Therefore, Ananda, receive and uphold this Dharani and widely proclaim it to others. With my Buddha-eye, I see all the worlds of gods, humans, demons, Brahma, Sramanas (Sramana, Buddhist renunciates), and Brahmanas (Brahmana, Hindu priests), who uphold this 'Rain of Trea

【English Translation】 English version: Rākṣasas cannot create obstacles or disasters. Why is that? Because the Tathāgata does not speak falsely. These words of the mantra cannot be destroyed. This dhāraṇī is difficult even for sentient beings without good roots to hear, let alone write, receive, uphold, read, or recite. Why is that? Because it is the true speech proclaimed by all Tathāgatas, rejoiced in by all Tathāgatas, praised by all Tathāgatas, manifested by all Tathāgatas, and planted by all Tathāgatas. Ānanda said to the Buddha: 'Excellent, World Honored One!' And with a wonderful gāthā, he spoke this verse: 'The Buddhas are inconceivable, and so is the Dharma. Pure faith is inconceivable, and so are the karmic rewards. Silent wisdom, all wisdom, the Dharma King is neither born nor dies. Having reached the supreme other shore, I bow my head to the Buddha's courage.' At that time, the Venerable Ānanda, hearing the Buddha speak this 'Rain of Jewels Dhāraṇī Sūtra', leaped with joy and said to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, what should this Dharma teaching be called now? How should we uphold this sūtra?' The Buddha told Ānanda: 'This sūtra is called 'Asked by the Elder Wonderful Moon', you should uphold it. It is also called 'Able to Obtain All Treasures and Hidden Wealth', and it is also called 'The Rain of Jewels Dhāraṇī Teaching Praised by All Tathāgatas', you should uphold it.' At that time, after the Bhagavan finished speaking this sūtra, countless bhikṣus, as well as bodhisattvas, and all the great assembly of devas, humans, asuras, and others, hearing what the Buddha had said, were all greatly delighted, believed, accepted, and practiced it.
