開府儀同三司特進試鴻臚卿肅國公食邑三千戶贈司空謚大鑒正號大廣智大興善寺三藏法師不空奉 詔譯

如是我聞。一時薄伽梵。住補怛落伽山聖觀自在菩薩宮殿。與百千俱胝那庾多菩薩前後圍繞。爾時眾中有一菩薩。名曰寶藏月光。從座而起整理衣服。偏袒右肩曲躬合掌。白言薄伽梵我有少疑。唯愿如來聽許咨問。於是寶藏月光菩薩言。若善男子善女人。作八曼荼羅者云何建立。復依何法起無量福。令修行者速證菩提。爾時如來贊寶藏月光菩薩言。善哉善哉善男子。能問如是甚深之義。而為利益無量無邊有情與安樂故。及能凈除三惡趣故。為證無比無上智故。汝今善聽。若諸有情才聞此密言者。得長壽樂。善男子有八曼荼羅。是八大菩薩甚深法要。若有有情。依法建立此八曼荼羅一遍者。所有十惡五逆謗方等經皆悉銷滅。一切所求義利勝愿悉得成就。即說如來密言曰。

唵摩訶尾啰娑嚩(二合引)賀(引)

即曼荼啰中。想于如來真金色身。三十二相坐蓮華臺。次說觀自在菩薩密言曰。

如是我聞。一時,薄伽梵(Bhagavan,世尊)。住在補怛落伽山(Potalaka,觀音菩薩道場)聖觀自在菩薩宮殿。與百千俱胝那庾多菩薩前後圍繞。爾時,眾中有一菩薩,名曰寶藏月光。從座而起,整理衣服,偏袒右肩,曲躬合掌,稟告薄伽梵:『我有少許疑問,唯愿如來聽許我請教。』於是,寶藏月光菩薩說道:『若有善男子、善女人,想要作八大曼荼羅,應該如何建立?又依據何種方法,能夠生起無量福德,令修行者迅速證得菩提?』爾時,如來讚歎寶藏月光菩薩說:『善哉!善哉!善男子,你能夠詢問如此甚深的義理,是爲了利益無量無邊的有情眾生,給予他們安樂,並且能夠清凈消除三惡趣的苦難,爲了證得無比無上的智慧。你現在仔細聽好。若有有情眾生,才聽到這個秘密真言,就能得到長壽安樂。善男子,有八大曼荼羅,是八大菩薩甚深的法要。若有有情眾生,依法建立這八大曼荼羅一遍,所有十惡、五逆、誹謗方等經的罪業,都能夠消滅。一切所求的義利和殊勝願望,都能夠成就。』即說如來密言曰:

『唵(om) 摩訶(mahā) 尾啰(vīra) 娑嚩(svā) 賀(hā)。』

即在曼荼羅中,觀想如來真金色身,具足三十二相,端坐蓮華臺。其次說觀自在菩薩密言曰:

『吽(hūṃ) 纈唎(hrīḥ) 郝缽納么(padma) 室哩(śrī) 曳(ye)。』

【English Translation】 English version The Eight Great Bodhisattvas Mandala Sutra

Translated by Tripiṭaka Master Bukong of Daxingshan Temple, with the title of Grand Master of Great Wisdom, who was appointed as Kaifu Yitong Sansi Tejin Shi Hongluqing, Duke of Su of the State, with a fief of three thousand households, posthumously awarded the title of Sikong and the posthumous name of Dajian, under imperial decree.

Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan (Bhagavan, the World-Honored One) was dwelling in the palace of the Holy Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva on Mount Potalaka (Potalaka, the abode of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva), surrounded by hundreds of thousands of kotis of nayutas of Bodhisattvas. At that time, among the assembly, there was a Bodhisattva named Treasure Moon Light. He rose from his seat, arranged his robes, bared his right shoulder, bent his body, and joined his palms, saying to the Bhagavan, 'I have a few doubts. May the Tathagata (Tathagata, Thus Come One) grant me permission to inquire.' Thereupon, the Bodhisattva Treasure Moon Light said, 'If good men or good women wish to construct the Eight Great Mandalas, how should they be established? And by what method can they generate immeasurable blessings, enabling practitioners to quickly attain Bodhi (Bodhi, enlightenment)?' At that time, the Tathagata praised the Bodhisattva Treasure Moon Light, saying, 'Excellent! Excellent! Good man, you are able to inquire about such profound meanings, for the benefit and happiness of limitless and boundless sentient beings, and to purify and eliminate the suffering of the three evil realms, in order to attain incomparable and unsurpassed wisdom. Now listen carefully. If sentient beings merely hear this secret mantra, they will obtain longevity and happiness. Good man, there are Eight Great Mandalas, which are the profound Dharma essentials of the Eight Great Bodhisattvas. If sentient beings establish these Eight Great Mandalas once according to the Dharma, all sins of the ten evils, five rebellious acts, and slandering of Vaipulya Sutras will be extinguished. All desired benefits and supreme wishes will be fulfilled.' Then He spoke the Tathagata's secret mantra, saying:

'Om (om) Maha (mahā) Vira (vīra) Svaha (svāhā).'

That is, within the mandala, visualize the Tathagata's true golden body, possessing the thirty-two marks, seated upon a lotus pedestal. Next, recite the secret mantra of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, saying:

'Hum (hūṃ) Hrih (hrīḥ) Padma (padma) Shri (śrī) Ye (ye).'


娑嚩(二合引)訶

即想曼荼羅中。聖觀自在赤色身。左手持蓮華右手施愿。頭冠中有無量壽如來。次說慈氏菩薩密言曰。

每訶哩爾娑嚩(二合引)訶

于觀自在菩薩后。想慈氏菩薩。金色身左手執軍持右手施無畏。冠中有窣堵波半跏坐。次說虛空藏菩薩密言曰。

阿(引)孽婆也 娑嚩(二合引)訶

于佛背後。想虛空藏菩薩。左手持寶安於心上。右手施流出無量寶。

次說普賢菩薩密言曰。

纈唎(二合)惹也娑嚩(二合引)訶

虛空藏菩薩左邊。想普賢菩薩。戴五佛冠金色身。右手持劍左手施愿。半跏而坐。

次說金剛手菩薩密言曰。

唵鑁啰嚩娑嚩(二合引)訶

于如來左邊。想金剛手菩薩。右手執金剛杵左手安於胯。戴五佛冠。身青色半跏而坐。

次說曼殊室利菩薩密言曰。

室利(二合)阇㘕誐娑嚩(二合引)訶

于金剛手菩薩前。想曼殊室利童真菩薩。五髻童子形。左手執青蓮花。花中有五股金剛杵。右手作施愿。身金色半跏而坐。

次說除蓋障菩薩密言曰。

匿伐啰拏娑嚩(二合)訶(引)

于曼殊室唎菩薩右。想除蓋障菩薩。金色身。左手持如意幢。右手施愿半跏而坐。

在觀自在菩薩(Avalokiteśvara)身後,觀想慈氏菩薩,呈現金色身,左手執持軍持(kuṇḍikā,水瓶),右手施予無畏。頭冠中有窣堵波(stūpa,佛塔),呈半跏坐姿。

接下來,宣說虛空藏菩薩(Ākāśagarbha)的密言,即:

阿(引)孽婆也 娑嚩(二合引)訶 (āḥ garbhe svāhā):愿此成就

在佛背後,觀想虛空藏菩薩,左手持寶安放在心上,右手施予並流出無量珍寶。

接下來,宣說普賢菩薩(Samantabhadra)的密言,即:

纈唎(二合)惹也娑嚩(二合引)訶 (khalīḥ ja ya svāhā):愿此成就

在虛空藏菩薩左邊,觀想普賢菩薩,頭戴五佛冠,呈現金色身,右手持劍,左手施予願望,呈半跏坐姿。

接下來,宣說金剛手菩薩(Vajrapāṇi)的密言,即:

唵鑁啰嚩娑嚩(二合引)訶 (oṃ vaṃ ra va svāhā):愿此成就

在如來左邊,觀想金剛手菩薩,右手執持金剛杵(vajra),左手安於胯部,頭戴五佛冠,身體呈青色,呈半跏坐姿。

接下來,宣說曼殊室利菩薩(Mañjuśrī)的密言,即:

室利(二合)阇㘕誐娑嚩(二合引)訶 (śrīḥ ja laṃ ga svāhā):愿此成就

在金剛手菩薩前,觀想曼殊室利童真菩薩,呈現五髻童子形象,左手執持青蓮花,花中有五股金剛杵,右手作施予願望的手印,身體呈金色,呈半跏坐姿。

接下來,宣說除蓋障菩薩(Sarvanivāraṇaviṣkambhin)的密言,即:

匿伐啰拏娑嚩(二合)訶(引) (nirvaraṇa svāhā):愿此成就

在曼殊室利菩薩右邊,觀想除蓋障菩薩,呈現金色身,左手持如意幢(cintāmaṇi-dhvaja),右手施予願望,呈半跏坐姿。

【English Translation】 English version Svāhā (娑嚩(二合引)訶): May it be accomplished.

Within the visualized mandala, the holy Avalokiteśvara (聖觀自在) appears with a red-colored body, holding a lotus flower in the left hand and granting wishes with the right hand. In the crown is Amitābha Tathagata (無量壽如來). Next, the secret mantra of Maitreya Bodhisattva (慈氏菩薩) is spoken, which is:

Mai harīḥ il svāhā (每訶哩爾娑嚩(二合引)訶): May it be accomplished.

Behind Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva (觀自在菩薩), visualize Maitreya Bodhisattva, with a golden-colored body, holding a kuṇḍikā (軍持, water bottle) in the left hand and bestowing fearlessness with the right hand. In the crown is a stūpa (窣堵波, Buddhist monument), in a half-lotus posture.

Next, the secret mantra of Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva (虛空藏菩薩) is spoken, which is:

Āḥ garbhe svāhā (阿(引)孽婆也 娑嚩(二合引)訶): May it be accomplished.

Behind the Buddha, visualize Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva, holding a jewel in the left hand placed upon the heart, and the right hand bestowing and emanating limitless treasures.

Next, the secret mantra of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva (普賢菩薩) is spoken, which is:

Khalīḥ ja ya svāhā (纈唎(二合)惹也娑嚩(二合引)訶): May it be accomplished.

To the left of Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva, visualize Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, wearing a crown of five Buddhas, with a golden-colored body, holding a sword in the right hand and granting wishes with the left hand, in a half-lotus posture.

Next, the secret mantra of Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva (金剛手菩薩) is spoken, which is:

Oṃ vaṃ ra va svāhā (唵鑁啰嚩娑嚩(二合引)訶): May it be accomplished.

To the left of the Tathagata, visualize Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva, holding a vajra (金剛杵, thunderbolt) in the right hand and the left hand resting on the hip, wearing a crown of five Buddhas, with a blue-colored body, in a half-lotus posture.

Next, the secret mantra of Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva (曼殊室利菩薩) is spoken, which is:

Śrīḥ ja laṃ ga svāhā (室利(二合)阇㘕誐娑嚩(二合引)訶): May it be accomplished.

In front of Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva, visualize Mañjuśrī Kumārabhūta Bodhisattva (曼殊室利童真菩薩), appearing as a five-knotted youth, holding a blue lotus flower in the left hand, with a five-pronged vajra within the flower, and the right hand making the gesture of granting wishes, with a golden-colored body, in a half-lotus posture.

Next, the secret mantra of Sarvanivāraṇaviṣkambhin Bodhisattva (除蓋障菩薩) is spoken, which is:

Nirvaraṇa svāhā (匿伐啰拏娑嚩(二合)訶(引)): May it be accomplished.

To the right of Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva, visualize Sarvanivāraṇaviṣkambhin Bodhisattva, with a golden-colored body, holding a cintāmaṇi-dhvaja (如意幢, wish-fulfilling banner) in the left hand and granting wishes with the right hand, in a half-lotus posture.


說地藏菩薩密言曰。

乞灑(二合)訶啰惹娑嚩(二合引)賀(引)

于如來前。想地藏菩薩。頭冠瓔珞面貌熙怡寂靜。愍念一切有情。左手安臍下拓缽。右手覆掌向下。大指捻頭指作安慰一切有情想。此八大菩薩曼荼羅供養觀行法。若善男子善女人。受持此八曼荼羅經。一切業障悉皆銷滅。速證無上正等菩提。

佛說是經已諸大菩薩及聲聞眾。一切天龍八部聞佛所說歡喜奉行。

八大菩薩贊。

圓寂宮城門  能摧戶扇者  諸佛法受用  救世我頂禮  自手流清水  能除餓鬼渴  三界如意樹  頂禮蓮華手  大慈水為心  能息瞋恚火  頂禮慈氏尊  能斷欲弓弦  虛空藏妙慧  虛空寂靜尊  生死流解脫  頂禮佛心子  無邊有情惑  能息無益心  普賢我頂禮  善逝上首子  塵勞盡僮僕  超勝摩羅軍  頂禮金剛手  能說一切明  頂禮妙吉祥  持妙童子形  舒遍智慧燈  攘奪三界冥  一切除蓋障  是故我頂禮  無盡智慧尊  能生無竭辯  如地諸有情  所依一不斷  堅慧悲愍藏  地藏我頂禮  此真善逝子  讚揚所獲福  以此諸有情  如彼成贊器

【English Translation】 English version The secret mantra of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is spoken as follows: 'Kṣa hara ja svaha' In front of the Tathagata, visualize Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, wearing a crown and adorned with necklaces, with a serene and joyful face, peaceful and tranquil, compassionate towards all sentient beings. The left hand rests below the navel, holding a bowl; the right hand is palm down, with the thumb touching the index finger, symbolizing the gesture of comforting all sentient beings. This is the practice of offering and contemplation of the Eight Great Bodhisattva Mandala. If a virtuous man or virtuous woman upholds this Eight Great Mandala Sutra, all karmic obstacles will be eliminated, and they will quickly attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment). After the Buddha finished speaking this sutra, all the great Bodhisattvas, as well as the Sravakas (listeners), and all the Nagas (dragons) and the Eight Classes of beings, hearing what the Buddha had said, rejoiced and practiced accordingly. Praise to the Eight Great Bodhisattvas: The gate of the Nirvana palace, who can destroy the door panels, the Dharma enjoyed by all Buddhas, I prostrate to the savior of the world. From his own hand flows pure water, able to quench the thirst of hungry ghosts, the wish-fulfilling tree in the three realms, I prostrate to Padmapani (Lotus Hand). With the water of great compassion as the heart, able to extinguish the fire of anger, I prostrate to Maitreya (The Kind One), able to sever the bowstring of desire. Akasagarbha (Space Treasury) possesses subtle wisdom, the venerable one as tranquil as space, liberated from the stream of birth and death, I prostrate to the Buddha's heart-son. Able to quell the delusions of boundless sentient beings, able to stop unprofitable thoughts, Samantabhadra (Universal Virtue) I prostrate to, the foremost son of the Sugata (Well-Gone One). Dust and toil become servants, surpassing and conquering the army of Mara (The Evil One), I prostrate to Vajrapani (Thunderbolt Hand), able to proclaim all mantras. I prostrate to Manjushri (Gentle Glory), holding the form of a beautiful youth, spreading the light of pervasive wisdom, dispelling the darkness of the three realms. Sarvanivaranaviskambhin (All Obstructions Remover), therefore I prostrate, the venerable one of endless wisdom, able to generate inexhaustible eloquence. Like the earth, all sentient beings rely upon without ceasing, possessing the treasury of firm wisdom and compassion, Ksitigarbha (Earth Treasury) I prostrate. By praising the merits obtained by this true son of the Sugata, may all sentient beings, through this merit, become vessels for praising the Dharma. The Eight Great Bodhisattva Mandala Sutra The text of these eight positions contains errors, now corrected according to the Dhāraṇī recitation of the Victorious Buddha-Crown from Heng Han.


法中所明方位而正之云。
