【English Translation】 English version The Most Excellent Meaning Sutra Spoken by Manjushri

I take refuge in Manjushri (妙吉祥,the Bodhisattva of Wisdom), In the most excellent meaning that he speaks. Vajrapani Bodhisattva (金剛掌菩薩,the Bodhisattva wielding the vajra), Subdues all the hosts of demons. His body surges forth, pervading the three realms, He is the king of secrets,自在(free and unhindered). His eyes are like petals of blue lotus, His face is like a lotus in full bloom. Holding the vajra (金剛杵,a ritual weapon), He hurls it again and again with his hands. Manifesting a great wrathful appearance, His威震(majesty) shakes the ten directions. Vajrapani Bodhisattva (金剛手菩薩,another name for the Bodhisattva wielding the vajra), Also holds the vajra. His appearance of diligence is subtle and wonderful, Courageously subduing all demons. With great wisdom benefiting sentient beings, Transforming into billions of vajras. Sometimes leaping with joy, Sometimes manifesting a wrathful appearance. I prostrate to the World Honored One, the Buddha, With palms together and a respectful heart. May the Dharma long abide, As a refuge for all beings. Always within the net of illusion, Guiding towards the path of Bodhi. For those without wisdom, foolish and ignorant, And those troubled by suffering and afflictions, Rescuing them, enabling them to be liberated, Protecting them all to attain the supreme fruit. The World Honored One is the tamer and guide, Always abiding in great samadhi (大三昧,meditative absorption). Able to understand the nature of all dharmas, The indriya (根,sense organs) and vishaya (境,sense objects) are also thus. The Tathagata is the body of wisdom, Possessing the ushnisha (烏瑟膩沙相,cranial protuberance). Manjushri (文殊,the Bodhisattva of Wisdom) is the greatly wise one, With wisdom observing, he is well-born. The profound and subtle meaning, The great Dharma is unparalleled. In the beginning good, the middle good, and the end good, The name and meaning are the most excellent. The Buddhas of the past have already spoken it, The Buddhas of the future will speak it, The Buddhas of the present are now speaking it, The Buddhas of the three times are all thus. Within the great net of illusion, Able to liberate all kinds of beings. Vajrapani Bodhisattva (金剛掌菩薩,the Bodhisattva wielding the vajra), Joyfully extends praise. The true secret words spoken by the Buddha, I am now able to uphold. With a determined and steadfast mind, Until achieving samyak-sambodhi (等正覺,perfect enlightenment). Expounding the secret Dharma, Guiding all sentient beings. Arousing uncontaminated wisdom.

【English Translation】 English version Section on Snares: Holding the Vajra Rope, and holding the Vajra Hook, manifesting a wrathful appearance, subduing all demonic adversaries. The Great Wrathful Vidyaraja (Ming Wang), with six faces displaying six eyes, one body generating six arms, the mouth emitting great sharp teeth, hands holding a kamandalu (skull bowl), arms entwined with a hundred poisonous snakes, named Yamaantaka (Destroyer of Yama), also named the King Who Removes Obstacles, manifesting a greatly terrifying appearance, holding a Vajra sharp blade, various appearances differing, transforming into Vajra retinue, pervading throughout the empty space. The Wrathful One with Great Dignity and Virtue, Acala (immovable) Vidyaraja, with disheveled hair in a topknot, body draped with a large elephant skin, often emitting great laughter, sounds of 'Haha Hihi', causing plants and trees to shake, manifesting the Great Laughing Vidyaraja. Possessing great power and virtue, the Vajra Great Bodhisattva, Vajra King Great Bliss, Vajra Appearance Great Joy, Vajra Mantra Hum Hum, Vajra bow and arrow, holding the Vajra sword, all afflictions are removed and severed, firm and useful, this Vajra is the most supreme. Blazing Vajra flames, blazing Vajra eyes, Vajra great appearance, Vajra flame-like hundred eyes, Vajra hair sharp, manifesting a fighting appearance, Vajra manifesting fingers and claws, billions of sharp and firm points, Vajra supreme garland, Vajra wonderful adornment, Vajra laughing sound, the gate of letters has six kinds. Manjushri (Bodhisattva of wisdom) emits a great sound, pervading throughout the three realms, even the entire empty space, the sound pervades and resounds, truly understanding that all dharmas are without self, free from the constraints of written language, identical to the true and actual nature of dharma. For example, a great bull king, emitting a great roar, blowing the great Dharma conch, striking the great Dharma drum, erecting a vast Dharma banner, making a vast sound, not dwelling in Nirvana, having compassion for all sentient beings. The ten directions of empty space, whether with form or without form, in various minds of form, able to understand all dharmas, like a great round mirror, universally illuminating without omission, transforming into various gods and humans, attaining freedom in the three realms.

【English Translation】 English version Said to the Brahmin: The Bodhisattva cultivates correct conduct, consciousness is pure and without defilement, free from contamination and without fear, well-awakened to the Buddha-nature. Wisely understands the Tathāgata-bhūmi (Buddha-realm), able to know the past dharmas, without ignorance and without form, and without doubt. Illuminates the Buddhas of the three times (past, present, and future), the Dharma is originally without attachment, awakening to the Dharma frees one from bondage, the wisdom eye illuminates without obstruction. The Tathāgata observes with subtle wisdom, is the king of freedom in teaching the Dharma, uses the most supreme Dharma meaning, completely eliminating all disputes. Like the lion king, able to subdue all beasts, sentient beings all joyfully admire, the Tathāgata possesses a venerable appearance. Mañjuśrī's (文殊) wonderful wisdom light, intensely and universally illuminates, is the Abhiṣeka-dharma-kumāra (灌頂法王子, initiation prince), the most supreme teacher of names and meanings. Able to be a great medicine, eliminating all sickness and suffering, emits the light of the white hair mark between the eyebrows, illuminating the three realms (desire realm, form realm, formless realm). The body of Bodhisattva's wondrous wisdom gives birth to all kinds of good benefits, Just like in the great earth, all kinds of benefits grow. The wisdom treasury of all Buddhas flows out the great Dharma wheel, The self-nature of all dharmas, the arising of all self-natures. In a single moment, the meanings of all dharmas are born, Immediately attaining great wisdom, awakening to all dharmas. Deeply entering all Samadhis (禪定), abiding in the principle of equality, All dharmas are pure, accomplishing Samyak-saṃbuddha (正等正覺, complete enlightenment). All Buddhas appear, the meaning of joy is accomplished, The flame of great wisdom illuminates, eliminating all sins and defilements. Among all sentient beings, creating the supreme benefit, Suffering is like a vengeful thief, wisdom can conquer. Diligence is an excellent sign, subtle and great auspiciousness, Arms are a hundred elbows long, lifting the feet without treading. One foot presses on the golden wheel, down to the end of the earth, One foot covers the Brahma heavens, only seeing the fingernails. The most supreme and free, the meaning of the Dharma is without difference, Manifesting various forms and appearances, arising from expedient wisdom. Pervading the ten directions, benefiting endlessly, Having already left the defilements of Samsara, attaining the three great joys. Like a pure cloud, also like the bright moon in autumn, Like the sun leaving the cloud cover, blazing with great light. The great blue jewel of Indra, the most supreme of adorned colors, And the great wish-fulfilling jewel, also a wonderful adornment. The manifested supernatural powers, shaking hundreds of worlds, Abiding in the mindfulness, right diligence, supernatural power, and the power of the roots, The wonderful intention flower of the seven factors of enlightenment, understanding the Eightfold Noble Path, Approaching Samyak Bodhi (菩提, enlightenment), the sea of Tathagata's merits. The aggregates of all sentient beings are like empty space, The mental activities of all sentient beings have various differences in appearance. Understanding the realms of the senses, the five Skandhas (五蘊) are all empty.

Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva Mahāsattva (Great Bodhisattva of Wisdom), for the sake of benefiting all sentient beings, speaks of this pure and supreme name and meaning. If sentient beings have not purified their three karmas (body, speech, and mind), it enables them to hold their three karmas in the gate of the Buddha-land's Pāramitā (波羅蜜,perfection), in the treasury of merit and wisdom, making them complete and pure. For those who have not understood the supreme meaning, it enables them to understand, and even all the Dharma treasures of all Buddhas are developed for them, enabling them to awaken and understand, giving rise to all good deeds as the gate of merit.' Furthermore, Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva Mahāsattva, Vajrahasta Bodhisattva Mahāsattva said: 'This supreme name and meaning gives rise to all pure land Pāramitā Dharmas, is a secret mantra, perfectly accomplishing all wisdom and knowledge (sarvajñāna-jñāna), the ocean of all merits, purifying the three secret gates of body, speech, and mind, contemplating all Buddhas, perfectly enlightened Buddhas (samyak-saṃbuddha), accomplishing the great Samādhi (三摩地,meditative absorption) of Buddha wisdom, the pure Dharma realm of all Tathāgatas, the supreme ten powers (daśa bala) destroying demonic enemies, possessing all knowledge (sarvajña), all kinds of knowledge (sarva-ākāra-jñāna), fundamental skillful means, benefiting sentient beings, the treasury of merit and wisdom being pure and complete, giving rise to Bodhisattvas, Śrāvakas (聲聞,hearers), Pratyekabuddhas (緣覺,solitary realizers), the holy seeds of the two vehicles, all humans and devas, abiding in the Bodhisattva practices of the Mahāyāna (大乘,Great Vehicle), entering the right holy path, all attaining liberation. 【English Translation】 English version May they be far from all evil paths, and may they be able to cut off all karmic obstacles. May the fears of the eight difficulties (eight unfortunate circumstances) be eliminated, may they be far from evil dreams and obtain great auspiciousness, and may they be far from all demonic entanglements. Cultivate all good roots, increase blessings and benefits, cut off all increasing arrogance, and forever escape from the cycle of suffering. May the minds of all Buddhas be truly known, may the secret practices of Bodhisattvas be truly known, may the wisdom of the Three Vehicles (Śrāvakayāna, Pratyekabuddhayāna, and Mahāyāna) be truly known, and may all mantras and mudras be truly known. May the most supreme Dharma meaning generate great wisdom, abide in peaceful practice, and have freedom in body and strength. Obtain pure and great auspiciousness, joyfully and exuberantly use wonderful verses to praise and extol this 'Name and Meaning Sutra'. It can also eliminate all diseases and great terrors. If sentient beings have any desires in their hearts, sincerely recite this most supreme 'Name and Meaning Sutra', and all wishes will be fulfilled. For those who have not attained the Path, may they attain the fruit of the Path; may they ride the boat of Prajñā (wisdom) to reach the shore of Bodhi (enlightenment). Like a great physician who can remove all diseases, use skillful wisdom to save sentient beings, and may ignorance and darkness be forever removed, just like a wish-fulfilling jewel, fulfilling all desires and benefiting all beings, making them all complete. Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva Mahāsattva (great Bodhisattva), truly knows all-knowing wisdom (Buddha's wisdom), possesses the five eyes (flesh eye, heavenly eye, wisdom eye, Dharma eye, Buddha eye) and the six Pāramitās (generosity, morality, patience, diligence, concentration, wisdom), obtains the four fearlessnesses (fearlessness of body, fearlessness of speech, fearlessness of mind, fearlessness of Dharma), and abides in the ten Bhūmis (ten stages of Bodhisattva practice). The treasure of great merit and wisdom, the doors of Samādhi (meditative concentration) are all perfected. Truly know that the nature of Dharma is without difference, truly know the various differences of appearances, truly know that the various billions of appearances are pure, and the nature of the Tathāgata is originally empty. This 'Name and Meaning Sutra' is the non-dual Dharma meaning, if someone upholds, reveals, and manifests it, they can benefit all sentient beings, enabling them to escape from the thick forest of wrong views and afflictions. To benefit sentient beings, revealing the Three Vehicles (Śrāvakayāna, Pratyekabuddhayāna, and Bodhisattvayāna) universally enabling them to awaken and enter. At that time, Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva Mahāsattva (a great Bodhisattva) spoke this most supreme name and meaning, desiring sentient beings to wholeheartedly believe and accept it, attain supreme understanding, comprehend all the most supreme Dharma teachings, cultivate non-abiding conduct, possess complete wisdom, purify the three karmas of body, speech, and mind, and generate Bodhicitta (the mind of enlightenment). All Buddhas and great Bodhisattvas universally manifest equal Dharma teachings, enabling all sentient beings to awaken and enter. Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva manifests a wrathful appearance, using great power to subdue demonic enemies, universally benefiting all sentient beings, enabling them to attain peace and happiness. Revealing all mantras and mudras of the secret Samadhi (meditative absorption) Mandala, guiding sentient beings to enter the assembly of right concentration, complete and without remainder. The Great Bright Mantra King eliminates all obstacles and difficulties, subdues demonic enemies, possesses great power and virtue, and will constantly protect during the day and night. Giving, upholding precepts, patience, diligence, meditation, wisdom, skillful means, vows, loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, the four immeasurable minds are complete and perfect. And to understand all skillful arts, and to understand the praises of externalist books. To renounce the household life and seek the Way, without losing the mind of all wisdom, to understand the meaning and benefit of the Dharma of the Three Vehicles. 【English Translation】 English version Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva spoke to the自在王 (Zi Zai Wang, Lord of Freedom), 'Extensively proclaim the nature of all dharmas, like the void, perfectly pure. The 法界智藏 (Dharma Realm Wisdom Treasury) mantra is:' 'Āḥ' At that time, 金剛掌菩薩摩訶薩 (Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva Mahāsattva, Diamond Hand Bodhisattva Mahāsattva) and 金剛手菩薩摩訶薩 (Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva Mahāsattva, Diamond Hand Bodhisattva Mahāsattva) rejoiced, leaping with joy, respectfully joining their palms, and gazing up at the 如來 (Tathāgata, Thus Come One), all the holy assembly of Buddhas, and the Great Secret King, rejoicing and praising the vast 道場 (Dharma Field). At that time, 釋迦牟尼佛 (Śākyamuni Buddha) praised 金剛掌菩薩 (Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva) and 金剛手菩薩 (Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva), saying, 'Excellent, excellent! You are able to reveal the secret and most supreme names and meanings of all the Buddhas spoken by Mañjuśrī, benefiting and bringing peace and happiness to all sentient beings. Before long, you will attain 阿耨多羅三藐三菩提 (Anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi, unsurpassed, right and perfect enlightenment), attain great liberation, and become great guides in the net of illusion. With great purity and profound, subtle meanings, you will develop and guide sentient beings, enabling them to enter the realm of the Buddhas. I now certify the most supreme names and meanings you have spoken. This sūtra, from among the sixteen thousand great secret teachings in the wisdom treasury, sequentially flows out as the 三摩地輪 (Samādhi-cakra, Samadhi Wheel), subduing demonic enemies, eliminating afflictions, and delivering sentient beings from the cycle of rebirth to the shore of Bodhi (Enlightenment).'
