大明太宗文皇帝御製真實名經序

蓋聞真實名經者。是諸如來超出有壞智身。極顯密微妙。正覺菩提其義深廣。猶如意大寶珠寶中最勝。故能利益有情增長福慧。超離塵垢脫除過愆。消弭煩惱解釋魔障。令彼一切清凈圓滿即登彼岸。昔曼殊室利。弘大慈悲發大誓願。以是最妙吉祥作大方便。敷揚奧旨拯拔輪迴。以此饒益功德無際。朕惟如來施教。但欲使人為善。夫為善者。為臣為忠為子為孝。忠臣孝子。行一事而不敢以忘君。出一言而惟恐以辱親。盡心于夙夜。而毫髮之欺蔽不敢以萌於心。鞠躬于朝夕。而頃刻之奉承不敢以違于志。心惟一于善。而無纖芥之惡。若是者則何有于愆尤煩惱。但為不善之人。不忠於君不孝于親。悖禮傷道積愆累惡。所謂報業亦如此人乎。施如仰面唾眱反見自污。背拳搏擊反見自傷。觸犯憲條身入狴犴即為地獄。如茲果報不爽絲忽。若此輩流。素蘊不忠不孝之心。一旦茍能改悟。移不忠以為忠。移不孝以為孝。去惡而為善。則即善人而已。朕弘垂愍念推廣慈仁。故以是經功德與之懺悔。猶熱濯寒泉頓得清涼。饑餐香積頓能成飽。貧窮卑賤即得高

勝。年齡不永皆得長壽。諸種善根圓滿具足。若當露居而忽成樓宇。若涉波濤而忽遇舟航。如蓮華之出水不染淤泥。如鹍鵬之運游逍遙雲漢。凡修善之士欲求佛道。堅持禁戒精進不已。能究竟是經。求真實顯密奧義。即得五眼清凈六識皆空。自然超萬有而無心。含萬動而恒寂。廓清塵習妙踐真如。是用光闡大猷敷贊玄化。彰述厥旨以翼流通。致力於斯者宜盡心焉。

【現代漢語翻譯】 現代漢語譯本 勝(勝利)。年齡不永者皆得長壽。各種善根圓滿具足。如果露天而居忽然變成樓房,如果涉水渡河忽然遇到船隻。如同蓮花從水中生出而不沾染污泥,如同鯤鵬展翅翱翔于天空。凡是修行善業的人想要追求佛道,堅持戒律,精進不懈,能夠究竟通達這部經,尋求真實顯密奧義,就能得到五眼清凈,六識皆空。自然超越萬物而無心執著,包容萬物的運動變化而恒常寂靜。徹底清除塵世的習氣,美妙地踐行真如。因此,廣泛闡揚偉大的法則,宣揚讚美玄妙的教化,彰顯陳述這部經的宗旨,以期廣泛流傳。致力於此的人應該盡心盡力。

複次,吉祥持金剛(Vajrapani,金剛手菩薩) 難調伏中勝調伏, 勇猛超出三界內, 自在金剛密中勝。 眼如白蓮妙端正, 面貌圓滿若蓮華, 自手執持勝金剛, 時時仰上作拋擲。 複次第現忿等像, 亦有無邊持金剛, 勇猛調伏難調者, 具威猛相極怖畏。 于金剛尖出勝光, 自手向上令拋擲, 有大慈悲及智慧, 方便益生極殊勝。 具足喜樂安隱心, 示有忿怒之形相, 於行正覺行中尊, 眾皆來集身恭謹, 向彼如來末遏鑁(Buddha,佛陀), 究竟正覺禮敬已, 於前恭敬伸合掌, 端坐正念而告白: 『遍主與我作饒益, 益我慈悲於我故, 如幻網中成究竟, 愿我真實獲菩提(Bodhi,覺悟)。』

【English Translation】 English version Victory. Those whose lifespan is not long will all attain longevity. All kinds of virtuous roots will be fully complete. If one dwells in the open, a building will suddenly appear. If one crosses waves, one will suddenly encounter a boat. Like a lotus flower emerging from water, unstained by mud. Like a Kunpeng (mythical bird) soaring freely in the clouds. All those who cultivate goodness and seek the Buddha's path, upholding precepts and diligently persevering, will be able to thoroughly understand this sutra, seeking the true esoteric and exoteric meanings, and will attain the purity of the five eyes and the emptiness of the six consciousnesses. Naturally transcending all things without attachment, encompassing the movements of all things while remaining eternally still. Thoroughly cleansing worldly habits, wonderfully practicing Suchness. Therefore, widely expounding the great Dharma, praising and extolling the profound teachings, clarifying and stating the purpose of this sutra, in order to widely circulate it. Those who dedicate themselves to this should do so with all their heart.

Fifteenth day of the seventh month of the ninth year of Yongle.

Sanskrit: Arya Manjushri Nama Samgiti (阿耶曼祖悉哩捺麻捺機碇), which translates to: Reciting the True Name Sutra of the Holy, Wonderful, and Auspicious Manjushri (誦聖妙吉祥真實名經).

Translated by the Tibetan translator-master Shi Zhi, a monk from Nieya, who studied sutras, vinaya, shastras, and esoteric teachings during the Yuan Dynasty.

Eyes like white lotuses, wonderfully upright, Face full and round like a lotus flower, With his own hands holding the supreme Vajra, Constantly looking up and throwing it. Again, successively manifesting wrathful and other forms, Also having boundless Vajra-holders, Bravely taming the untamable, Possessing a majestic appearance, extremely fearsome. From the tip of the Vajra emitting supreme light, With his own hands causing it to be thrown upwards, Having great compassion and wisdom, Skillfully benefiting beings, extremely supreme. Possessing joy, happiness, and a peaceful mind, Showing the appearance of wrath, The尊(Venerable One) in the practice of 正覺(Right Enlightenment), All gather, their bodies respectful, Towards that Tathagata (如來) 末遏鑁(Buddha), Having paid homage to the ultimate 正覺(Right Enlightenment), In front, respectfully joining palms, Sitting upright, with right mindfulness, he declares: '遍主(All-pervading Lord), grant me benefit, Benefit me with compassion for my sake, May I achieve ultimate accomplishment in the net of illusion, May I truly attain Bodhi (菩提, Enlightenment).'

【English Translation】 English version With all kinds of afflictions disturbing their minds, like being trapped and drowning in the mud. For the benefit of all sentient beings, so that they may attain the unsurpassed fruit. The perfectly enlightened Tathagata (the One Thus Gone), is the teacher and guide of sentient beings. Also the great recorder, understanding the true nature, knowing the superior faculties and minds of beings. This wisdom body of the Tathagata (the One Thus Gone), is the great crown rotation, the master of speech. Also the wisdom body, transcending all, is the wisdom and courage of Manjushri (Gentle Glory). Reciting his supreme true name, is profound meaning, vast meaning. It is incomparably great meaning, supremely gentle, it is good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end. The Buddhas of the past have already spoken, the Buddhas of the future will also expound. The perfectly enlightened Buddhas of the present, also universally and repeatedly proclaim. In the root tantra of the Great Illusion Net, holding the secret mantra of the Great Vajradhara (Diamond Holder). Like the commands of the boundless Buddhas, the beautiful sound should now be proclaimed. May the Bhagavan (World Honored One), the perfectly enlightened one, accomplish the true mantra holding. As I am determined without doubt, I should diligently and firmly uphold it. Away from afflictions, making them without remainder, for all kinds of wrong understandings should be abandoned. That is, with a mind without separation or difference, may I proclaim it for all sentient beings. The secret sovereign Guhyapati (Lord of Secrets) holding the Vajra (Diamond Scepter), spoke these words before the Tathagata (Thus Gone One): Having finished the declaration, he joined his palms and sat respectfully before him. Furthermore, Shakya (Sage of the Shakya Clan) Tathagata (Thus Gone One), the perfectly enlightened Honored One with Two Feet. From his own face, the supreme tongue, spread out wide and long. Manifesting within the three worlds, subduing the enemies of the four maras (demons). Sentient beings all possess the three evil realms, to show a pure smiling face. In his pure Brahma sound, having filled the three worlds. For the Vajradhara (Diamond Holder) of great power, the secret sovereign Guhyapati (Lord of Secrets) replied: Possessing great compassion, you are for the benefit of sentient beings. Possessing the wisdom body Manjushri (Gentle Glory), reciting the true name is of great benefit. Able to purify and eliminate sins, you should diligently listen to me. Good, auspicious Vajradhara (Diamond Holder), holding the Vajra (Diamond Scepter) in hand.

【English Translation】 English version That (Anger) is great wrath, which is the source of resentment and hatred. Great offering is great greed; all greed should be cut off. Great desire is great joy; great peace is great contentment. Great realm and vast body, great form and great image. Great light and great expanse, the great mandala is vast. Holding the vast vessel of wisdom, hooking afflictions with a hook, most excellent among the great. Universally heard and wonderfully heard are both vast; manifestation is vast manifestation. Those who understand hold great illusion, achieving benefit within great illusion. Within great illusion, joy arises from joy; performing illusionary arts within great illusion. Most venerable among great benefactors, holding supreme precepts among great observers of precepts. Firm in great patience, abandoning everything with great diligence. Dwelling in contemplation with great meditation, maintaining body and mind with great wisdom. Possessing great power and great skillful means, great vows and supreme wisdom are like the ocean. The nature of great compassion is boundless, also great pity and supreme wisdom. Having great wisdom, possessing vast intelligence, great understanding is great skillful means. Possessing great supernatural powers and great strength, great strength and great speed. Also great supernatural powers and great renown, great strength to subdue others. Able to destroy the great mountains of the three realms (kāmadhātu, rūpadhātu, arūpadhātu), holding the great firm vajra (diamond scepter). Great tightness is great heroism and courage, bestowing fearlessness in great fear. Venerable great seed is supreme, the guru's secret mantra (mantra) is greatly supreme. Dwelling in that aspect of the Mahāyāna (Great Vehicle), most supreme in the aspect of the Mahāyāna.

(The following twenty-four verses, three lines each, are to manifest the mandala of the Lords of the Assembly of Luminosity (Vidyādhipati), praising the one hundred and eight names of the pure realm of Dharma).

Vast and enlightened Lord of the Assembly of Luminosity (Vidyādhipati), possessing great silence and great tranquility. Causing it to appear within the great mantra (mantra), possessing the self-nature truth of the great mantra. Desiring to attain the ten perfections (pāramitā), dwelling in the ten perfections. Reaching the ten perfections is purity, which is the truth of the ten perfections. Venerable master of the ten bhūmis (grounds), dwelling in those ten bhūmis.

Being a teacher of non-self, possessing a voice like a lion, causing extreme fear to heretical and evil beasts. In all meaningful matters, the speed is as swift as the mind of the Tathagata. Among the victorious and the most victorious over enemies, bestowing great power upon the Wheel-Turning King (cakravartin). Being the teacher and the most excellent in the Sangha, the king, the lord, and the free one of the Sangha. Holding and cherishing all beings, possessing great spiritual efficacy, whose great righteousness does not accept the gratitude of others. The wonderful Dharma of the Dharma King is fully manifested, being a superior light in the world. Having meaningful achievements, fulfilling vows, abandoning all falsehoods. The endless Dharma realm is truly free from falsehood, the wonderful and excellent Dharma realm is extremely endless. Possessing a great field of merit, possessing superior merit, having vast and superior wisdom among wisdom. Possessing wisdom, understanding existence and non-existence, accumulating in non-duality. Possessing the fivefold nature of perfect enlightenment, the all-pervading lord is the self-nature of the five wisdoms. The crown adorns the fivefold nature of awakening; holding the five eyes, free from attachment. Causing all the perfectly enlightened ones to increase, the noble son of perfect enlightenment is supremely subtle. The birthplace of transcendent wisdom, appearing in the Dharma, free from the three realms of existence (three realms: desire realm, form realm, formless realm). The sole, steadfast Vajra (diamond/thunderbolt) nature; having become the lord of sentient beings at the very first birth. Transcending self in the nature of appearance and emptiness, transcendent wisdom, wondrous wisdom, like a great fire. Illuminating everywhere with great light, manifesting with the light of wisdom. Is the lamp of sentient beings, the torch of wisdom, possessing great power, manifesting light. Is the supreme lord of mantras, the king of luminous mantras; the king of secret mantras brings great benefit. Possessing a great fleshy protuberance, a rare crown; the great lord of space speaks of various things. Is the supreme self-nature of all the perfectly enlightened ones, possessing the joyful eyes of sentient beings. Capable of increasing various aspects, all the great sages offer praise. Causing the holding of the secret mantra of the three types, the great recorder holds the secret mantra. The venerable one protects the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha), therefore proclaims the supreme three vehicles (Śrāvakayāna, Pratyekabuddhayāna, and Bodhisattvayāna). The noose of true, supreme meaning, is the great, firmly held Vajra (diamond/thunderbolt) rope. The Vajra (diamond/thunderbolt) iron hook, the great noose.

(The following ten verses are the surrounding of the manifestation of Akshobhya Buddha (Immovable Buddha), therefore praising the Great Mirror Wisdom, which is the seventy-one names).

The terrifying Vajra (diamond/thunderbolt) bestows fearlessness; the king of Vajras (diamond/thunderbolts) is terrifying with six faces. Six eyes, six arms, possessing full strength; also with bony features, gnashing teeth. Haraharahara possesses a hundred faces; is the lord of the hells, the king among demons. The powerful Vajra (diamond/thunderbolt) is capable of creating fear; the Vajra (diamond/thunderbolt) named Vajra (diamond/thunderbolt) heart. The illusory Vajra (diamond/thunderbolt) possesses a great belly; born from the Vajra (diamond/thunderbolt), the lord of Vajras (diamond/thunderbolts). Is the Vajra (diamond/thunderbolt) heart like space; unmoving, with a single hair, adorning the body. Wearing a garment of elephant skin; great 'tight haha' all roar. Transcending all defilements of afflictions, able to understand the three times (past, present, future) and without a teacher. Among all sentient beings, you are the great尊者 (venerable one), the garland in the belt of merit. Among all embodied beings, you are the supreme one of liberation, truly abiding in the path of space. Holding the great wish-fulfilling jewel, the supreme among all treasures. You are the perfect great wish-fulfilling tree, the supreme among the excellent and pure vases. Able to bring all benefits to sentient beings, benefiting them according to their inclinations. Also understanding good and evil, and the times, all-knowing, possessing the wisdom to record everything. Understanding the times and the faculties of sentient beings, also able to accomplish the three liberations. Possessing merit, understanding merit, understanding the Dharma (teachings), praising the Dharma, manifesting auspiciousness. Among all auspicious things, you are the most auspicious, your auspicious name is 'Good Name'. In the great cessation, you are the great Dharma feast, in the great joy, you are the great music. Respectful service is fully complete, you are the name of supreme joy, auspicious in nature. Possessing supreme generosity, you are the尊者 (venerable one), the subtle refuge, worthy of refuge and protection. Among the enemies of the world, you are the supreme among the supreme, free from all fears, without remainder. 【English Translation】 English version Nature Without dust, apart from dust, is without stain; separation, loss, abandonment, and release from transgression. The ultimate sleep and awakening are self-nature; all understandings and all illuminations are subtle. Consciousness and mind transcend the nature of phenomena; upholding the truth is non-dual wisdom. Those who are free from falsehood silently achieve; practice the conduct of perfect enlightenment in the three times. Perfect enlightenment has no defilement and no boundaries; the initial perfect enlightenment has no cause. The unique eye of wisdom is without stain or defilement; possessing the body of wisdom is the Tathagata (Thus Come One). Freely and extensively proclaim with sentences; expound the supreme hero, the king of Dharma in the Buddha's teachings. Proclaim and state the subtle and supreme places; interpret and declare like a lion, unparalleled. For supreme observation, there is supreme joy; accumulating power is entering the mind. In the blazing light of flames, there are auspicious symbols; the radiance of arms causes manifestation. The supreme great physician is the venerable one; able to remove the thorns of pain, there is none higher. Also, it is a tree with lush branches of various medicines; treating all diseases, the great enemy. Entering the mind is supreme in the three realms; the auspicious constellation has a complete surrounding. The entire space of the ten directions; establishing the Dharma banner is extremely subtle. The unique and vast umbrella; possessing the complete surrounding of compassion. The auspicious lotus dance is free and at ease; the vast lord of the borderlands, the great precious umbrella. Possessing the great power of perfect enlightenment; holding the body of all perfect enlightenment. It is the great practice of all perfect enlightenment; it is the only true Dharma of all perfect enlightenment. The aspect of the Vajra (Diamond) great treasure empowerment; the self-nature of all great treasures is freedom. The nature of all phenomena of worldly freedom; the one who holds the Vajra is the king of all. All perfect enlightenment is the great mind; all perfect enlightenment is in the mind. The great body of all perfect enlightenment; is also the speech of all perfect enlightenment. The Vajra Sun possesses great light; the Vajra Moon is without stain. Among being apart from desire etc. is great desire; the blazing light of various colors. The Vajra lotus posture is perfect and equal enlightenment; upholding the true and ultimate Dharma. Auspicious perfect enlightenment Lotus Born; also able to gather and hold the treasury of perfect enlightenment. Also holding the king of various illusions; the vast perfect enlightenment Vidyadhara mantra. The intelligent Vajra is the great sword; truth.

【English Translation】 English version The pure and supreme syllable, Is the Great Vehicle that removes suffering, the Vajra Dharma is a great vessel. Vajra profound Jina-Jina (Vajra profound), Vajra wisdom is understood according to meaning. All who reach the other shore are ultimately complete, possessing adornments in all realms. The true, pure, and selfless Dharma, the true wisdom-moon, supreme light. The vast and diligent net of illusion, the supreme lord of all original tantras. The Vajra seated one is complete without remainder, holding all wisdom bodies. All supreme and wonderful wisdom, is held in the mind, going back and forth. The great mind of all perfect enlightenment, also holds various transformation wheels. Is the supreme nature of all bodies, also holds the self-nature of all bodies. Is the meaning of the unborn Dharma, holding the self-nature of all Dharmas. In a moment of vast wisdom, understanding and holding all Dharmas without remainder. One who now understands all Dharmas, supremely holds the silent true reality. Supreme, unmoving, self-nature pure, holding the wonderful Bodhi of perfect enlightenment. All perfect enlightenment appears before, the blazing light of wisdom-fire shines brightly.

(The following twenty-four verses praise the wisdom of equality. Therefore, it is the appearance of the Ratnasambhava Buddha mandala, which is one hundred and four names).

Accomplishing subtle meanings according to joy, all evil destinies are purified. The supreme尊 (zun, honored one) among all sentient beings, liberating all sentient beings. Uniquely brave among the enemies of afflictions, powerfully destroying the enemy of ignorance. Adorning the body with auspicious wisdom, holding the firm aspect of evil. Able to move hundreds of hands, dancing in the posture of stepping. Auspicious hundreds of hands are all complete, causing dance throughout the empty realm. The mandala of the great earth is one realm, firmly stepping on it with one heel. Within the realm of the toenails, completely pressing down the pure Brahma world. The meaning of the non-dual one-meaning Dharma, is the subtle meaning, the fearless meaning. Also possessing the meaning of color in various consciousnesses, possessing continuity in mind, consciousness, and awareness. The meaning of the body is countless joy without remainder, the supreme wisdom of the nature of loving emptiness. Abandoning the three existences of

【English Translation】 English version Greed is that which is delightful and vast in the three realms of existence (referring to the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm). Its color and appearance are bright and pure, like white clouds; its light is extraordinary, like the autumn moon. It is also like the newly rising sun, radiating light; its nails are like red copper, bright and clean. The crown on its head is extraordinary, with a blue tip; its hair is also dark blue. It possesses the light of great treasures and is full of auspiciousness; it is the embodiment of perfect enlightenment (referring to the Buddha), adorned with magnificence. It can shake hundreds of worlds and possesses supernatural powers. It holds the vast thought of true nature and is the king of meditation in the Four Foundations of Mindfulness (referring to mindfulness of body, feelings, mind, and phenomena). Using the Seven Factors of Enlightenment (referring to mindfulness, investigation of phenomena, energy, joy, tranquility, concentration, and equanimity) as flowers and fragrance, it is the sea of merits of the Tathagata (referring to the Buddha). Because it understands the meaning of the Eightfold Path (referring to right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration), it can understand the true path to enlightenment. It has great attachment to all sentient beings, yet it is unattached like the void. It arises from the minds of all sentient beings, as swift as the minds of sentient beings. It understands the faculties and meanings of all sentient beings and can seize their minds. It also understands the true nature of the Five Aggregates (referring to form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness), purifying them and enabling them to be upheld. It decisively transcends all boundaries and can also transcend from within determination. It advances towards the path of determination and dwells within it, proclaiming the Dharma of decisively transcending everything. It uproots the twelve branches (referring to ignorance, volitional actions, consciousness, name and form, the six sense bases, contact, feeling, craving, grasping, becoming, birth, aging and death) of the roots of the three realms of existence, holding the twelve kinds of purity. It possesses the meaning of the Four Noble Truths (referring to suffering, the cause of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the path to the cessation of suffering), understanding and holding the eight kinds of consciousness. It fulfills the twelve true meanings, revealing and understanding the sixteen true natures. It achieves Bodhi (referring to enlightenment) with twenty kinds, supremely understanding all aspects of perfect enlightenment. The illusory body of all perfect enlightenment can appear in countless worlds. It understands the present moment in an instant and also understands the meaning of all existences in an instant. It understands the expedient principles of various vehicles (referring to the Sravaka Vehicle, the Pratyekabuddha Vehicle, and the Bodhisattva Vehicle), benefiting the past and the future. It decisively transcends those who are in the three vehicles and dwells in the fruit of the One Vehicle (referring to the Buddha Vehicle). The pure nature of the realm of all afflictions can eliminate all karmic consequences. It transcends all rivers and seas, appearing as stillness in movement. It abandons afflictions and secondary afflictions, as well as habitual tendencies. With great compassion, wisdom, and skillful means, it benefits all sentient beings. It abandons all thoughts and meanings and also eliminates mind, consciousness, and intention. It can

To reside in the hearts of all sentient beings, and to comply with the wishes of all sentient beings. To fill the hearts of all sentient beings, and to bring joy to the hearts of all sentient beings. To achieve ultimate perfection without error, and to abandon and distance oneself from all erroneous understandings. To possess unwavering wisdom regarding the three meanings, these are my three qualities of merit. The principles of the five skandhas (form, feeling, perception, volition, consciousness) in the three times of past, present, and future, to be able to clearly distinguish each moment. To attain perfect enlightenment in a single moment, and to hold the nature of all perfect enlightenment. A body without form, yet the most supreme among bodies, understanding the boundaries of all bodies. Various different forms manifest in various places, the Great Jewel is the head of the Great Jewel.

(The following fifteen verses praise the wisdom of accomplishing what needs to be done, therefore appearing in the retinue of the Buddha who has accomplished the meaning, which are the ninety-five names).

Understanding all those who are perfectly enlightened, perfect enlightenment is unsurpassed. From the place of secret mantras, issuing mantras without words, the great mantra holder is threefold. To increase the meaning of all mantras, the great bindu (drop) is without words. The Great Void is the five syllables, the Void Bindu is the six syllables. Various voids without various differences, the sixteen and a half syllables all possess bindus. Nor are there limbs exceeding the number, this is the very beginning of the four dhyanas (meditative absorptions). Understanding all the limbs of dhyana, understanding the nature of the dhyana lineage. Possessing the body of dhyana, being the most supreme among bodies, the enjoyment body is the most supreme of all bodies. The nirmanakaya (emanation body) is the supreme body, holding the lineage of manifestation. Various manifestations in the ten directions, benefiting sentient beings according to the Dharma. The Ishvara (自在) Deva (天), is the Deva among Devas, not a non-Deva Ishvara, nor a lord of non-Devas. Ishvara without destruction, is the teacher of the Devas, creating and destroying is Ishvara. To make the three realms (desire realm, form realm, formless realm) peaceful, thereby transcending, the only teacher is the teacher of sentient beings. The name is universal in the ten directions, is the lord of bestowing the Dharma, vast and boundless. One who is equipped with the armor of adornment and compassion, using compassion as strong armor. Wisdom is like a sword, holding a bow and arrow, wanting to leave the unenlightened enemies of affliction. Able to subdue the fierce demonic enemies, and also eliminate the four maras (魔).

Is worthy of offerings, praise, and reverence, also a constant object of service.  The most supreme place for offerings and chanting, truly worthy of reverence, the supreme Guru.  One step can travel through the three worlds, like the boundless sky, truly suppressing.  Pure are the three clear knowledges, possessing six supernormal powers following six types.  Bodhi's courageous knowledge, great courageous knowledge, the one with great supernatural powers, transcending the world.  Reaching the true nature of that wisdom, also obtaining the essence of wisdom.  Everything is self-illuminating, causing others to be illuminated, the supreme man in everything.  Transcending all metaphors, the supreme lord of the knowable and the known.  The venerable one is the lord of Dharma giving, expounding the meaning of the four mudras (hand gestures).  Sentient beings offer to the supreme lord, definitely entering the three abodes.  Pure auspiciousness in subtle meaning, great supreme fortune in the three worlds.  Complete auspiciousness is all accomplished, Manjushri (Manjushri, a bodhisattva representing wisdom) supreme auspiciousness.

Holder of the Vajra, Vajrapani (Vajrapani). This is the unique true name of the courageous knowledge of the Wonderful Auspicious One. It is the wisdom body of the Tathagata's wisdom of the Blessed One.

You should now generate great joy, causing the complete and pure intention to increase to the unsurpassed state, so that you can purify the secrets of body, speech, and mind. If you cannot ultimately purify the grounds, then lead them to the other shore, making both merit and wisdom complete, and purify them, with meaning that is supreme. If they do not understand, cause them to understand; if they have not attained, cause them to attain. From this point until all the subtle Dharma principles of the Tathagatas (tathagata, 'one who has thus gone', an epithet of the Buddha), because of truly upholding them, I will proclaim, reveal, manifest, and explain them for you, causing them to be embraced. Vajrapani (Vajrapani, the bodhisattva who symbolizes the power of all the Buddhas), I embrace this person within your lineage and within the embrace of all the secret mantra Dharma nature. Vajrapani, this true name is the most supremely pure, truly immaculate nature of the all-knowing wisdom (sarvajnana-jnana, the knowledge of all things as they truly are) of all the Tathagatas. It is the secret of body, speech, and mind, and it is also all perfect enlightenment (bodhi, enlightenment), because it can understand the true and ultimate perfect enlightenment. It is also the unsurpassed all the Tathagatas, embodying and understanding the Dharma realm of all the Sugatas (sugata, 'one who has gone to bliss', an epithet of the Buddha), and among all the excellent ones, it can destroy the power of all the demons. Among all the ten powers (dasabala, the ten powers of a Buddha), it is the ten powers of the ten powers. Within the nature of all-knowing wisdom, it is the nature of all-knowing wisdom. It is the decree among all Dharmas, truly accomplishing all perfect enlightenment. It is also all the great Bodhisattvas (bodhisattva, an enlightened being), with merit and wisdom complete, truly ultimate, immaculate, and most supremely pure. It is also the place of origin for all Sravakas (sravaka, a hearer of the Buddha's teachings) and Pratyekabuddhas (pratyekabuddha, a solitary Buddha who attains enlightenment on their own), possessing the realms of humans and gods. It is the essence of the Mahayana (mahayana, one of the two major traditions of Buddhism), the place where the practices of the Bodhisattvas arise, which is the boundary of all holy paths. It is also the decisive place of origin for discerning all paths of liberation. It also unceasingly continues the Tathagata lineage, increasing the lineage and nature of the great courageous Bodhisattvas. It also tames body, speech, and mind, and diligent meditation can separate from all aggregates. It also abandons all afflictions and secondary afflictions, eliminates all obstacles, and liberates from all bonds.

【English Translation】 English version It is also the liberation from all the Skandhas (aggregates: form, feeling, perception, mental formations, consciousness). It extinguishes all confused thoughts and accomplishes all places of birth. It abandons all matters of prosperity and decline. It can also close all the gates to evil destinies (hell, hungry ghosts, animals), revealing the supreme path of liberation and manifold joys, preventing one from entering the cycle of rebirth, and enabling the turning of the great Dharma wheel. It establishes all the canopies, banners, and flags of the Tathagatas, as well as the palaces of all wonderful and true Dharma. It is also the Bodhi warrior, who, by practicing the secret mantra path, quickly attains accomplishment. It also understands the Samadhi of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva's diligent Prajna Paramita (perfection of wisdom), understanding the emptiness (the truth that all things are empty of inherent existence) of all diligent non-dualistic play. It is the two feet that reach the other shore, ultimately and truly purifying all ultimate grounds. It individually understands the Four Noble Truths (suffering, origin, cessation, path), wholeheartedly comprehending the four foundations of mindfulness (mindfulness of body, feeling, mind, and phenomena) of all Dharmas. This true name, up to all the merits of perfect enlightenment, can accomplish true ultimate attainment. Vajra-holder Vajrapani (Vajra-bearing, powerful being), this true name, can extinguish without remainder the sins of sentient beings' body, speech, and mind, and can purify all evil destinies of all sentient beings, causing them to abandon all evil destinies. It truly cuts off all karmic obstacles without any remainder. It can prevent the arising of all those who are subject to the eight adversities (eight difficulties that hinder practice). It can extinguish the eight fears (birth, old age, sickness, death, meeting with the unpleasant, separation from the pleasant, not getting what one wants, the flourishing of the five aggregates), can break all nightmares, and can certainly exhaust all evil omens. It can extinguish all evil views and all demons, and can also distance one from all the actions of enemies and demons. It increases all blessings and goodness, and can also eliminate all evil thoughts and perceptions, preventing them from arising. It destroys all pride, valor, and ego-grasping, and does not give rise to any suffering or sorrow. It is also the heart of all the Tathagatas, the secret of all the Bodhisattvas, the great secret of all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, all the secret mantras and their mudras. 【English Translation】 English version May the enlightened, courageous Bodhisattvas (awakened warrior-heroes), with their body, speech, and mind, truly embrace all Rightly Awakened, Courageous Bodhisattvas through their inherent nature. May they bestow benefits and enrich all beings, enabling them to attain fearlessness, unwavering confidence, and unimpeded eloquence in all Dharmas. Furthermore, may all Arhats (liberated beings who have extinguished all defilements and attained Nirvana), Sravakas (disciples who attain enlightenment by hearing the Buddha's teachings), and Pratyekabuddhas (solitary realizers who attain enlightenment through their own efforts) also embrace and manifest their forms within the hearts of the sacred Dharma. Moreover, may the Great Vajra Kings who subdue all evils, along with those who wield the Great Vajra, protect all sentient beings by manifesting various forms through transformation, rendering their spiritual power and influence unassailable. May they perfectly accomplish all secret mantras, hand gestures (mudras), symbols, and mandalas without omission. May the kings of secret mantras and luminous mantras, along with the Vinayakas (obstacle-creating deities) and all evil demons and adversaries, as well as those who can cause others to regress and destroy everything, and the Great Mothers, conceal themselves in every moment, day and night, in all postures, to provide protection. Furthermore, may the pure Brahma, Indra (the king of gods), and Indra's close attendants, with great power, subdue all as if taming infants. And may the lineage of Mahadeva (Great God), the Cat God, Mahakala (Great Black One), the playful Lord of the Underworld, the Water God, the Hariti (demon mother) and her children, and others who protect the ten directions of the world, constantly and continuously, day and night, walking or standing, sitting or lying, sleeping or awake, in meditation or out of meditation, alone or in a crowd, conceal themselves to provide protection. Whether dwelling in villages, settlements, plains, national borders, palace gates, gate towers, main roads, small roads, crossroads, village shops, empty houses, mountains, rivers, forests, or great forests, even in places of impurity, intoxication, or negligence, may they always conceal themselves day and night in all places, providing supreme protection and bestowing supreme bliss. Moreover, may the Nagas (dragons), Obstacle-makers, Gandharvas (celestial musicians), Asuras (demigods), Garudas (mythical birds), Kinnaras (celestial musicians), Mahoragas (great serpents), humans and non-humans, constellations, and celestial mothers, the Seven Mothers who are the lords of gatherings, the Obstacle-making Mothers, and the Flesh-eating Mothers, all united in mind and purpose, along with their generals, retinues, and servants, be able to provide all-encompassing protection, increasing spiritual strength, endowing perfect form and power, supreme majesty, freedom from illness, and longevity. May Vajrapani (the wielder of the vajra), the Bodhisattva with the Vajra in hand, this true name, the Jewel in the Crown, if one makes a vow, recites it three times daily without omission, writes it down and has it read, constantly contemplates the wisdom and courage of glorious, auspicious, intelligent, and courageous Manjushri (the Bodhisattva of Wisdom).

They can also see all the Bodhisattvas (Bodhisattva, enlightened warriors) in the realm of empty space, and the great sentient beings (sentient beings) of various forms. At what time, and relying on what actions, will one not fall into hell, not be born in evil realms, not be born into evil castes, not be born in remote areas, and also have all faculties complete, not generate wrong views, nor be born in families with wrong views, nor be born in countries without the Buddha's teachings? When born in countries with the Buddha's teachings, one will not abandon the right Dharma, nor be far from the right Dharma. One will not be born in the heavens of long life, nor be born in times of famine, plague, war, or other calamities, nor be born in the evil world of the five turbidities, nor encounter the fear of kings, the fear of evil people, or the fear of thieves. In lifetimes after lifetimes, one will not encounter the fear of lowliness and poverty, nor encounter the fear of foulness, slander, contempt, bad names, or evil words. One will always be born into noble and superior families, able to achieve all dignified and beautiful appearances, with beautiful colors. For the people of the world, everyone will love and be pleased with them. If one associates with them, emotions will be harmonious, and those who see them will be happy. Among the people, one will be upright and beautiful, possessing great blessings, and speaking without hindrance. Wherever one is born, one will obtain knowledge of past lives (knowledge of past lives), enjoy vast resources, and have many followers. What one enjoys will be endless, and one's retinue will be endless. Among sentient beings, one will be most supreme, and also possess supreme functions, naturally possessing the Six Perfections (Six Perfections). All merits will pass through the pure Brahma's four palaces. One will possess the means of mindfulness and right mindfulness, aspiration, power, and wisdom. Also, in all numerical meanings, one will obtain fearlessness and eloquence, without ignorance, with every sentence clear, achieving great wisdom, possessing broad understanding, without laziness, with few desires and contentment, benefiting greatly, and without attachment to emotions. One will be a supreme source of trust for all sentient beings, and also become a respected teacher and guru. This person, who has not previously heard of skillful arts, supernatural powers, or all teachings, will be able to understand both the words and the meanings. The precepts and livelihood will be most pure and subtle. Ordination and the attainment of full ordination will not cause one to forget the great Bodhicitta (Bodhicitta, the mind of enlightenment) of all-knowing wisdom. One will definitely not enter the vehicles of the Hearers (Śrāvaka, disciples), Arhats (Arhat, liberated beings), or Solitary Buddhas (Pratyekabuddha, solitary realizers). 【English Translation】 English version: It is profoundly deep and extremely vast, with great meaning that benefits sentient beings. The realm of all Samyak-saṃbuddhas (perfectly enlightened ones), all the Buddhas have already spoken of it.

Bhagavan (The Blessed One) Mañjuśrī (Gentle Glory) of wisdom, courage, and knowledge. The true name of Suchness recited. The Bhagavan, the World Honored One, the Tathagata has spoken completely.

The Buddhas of the three times speak truthfully, the true king among all secrets. This true name of Mañjuśrī, translated truthfully and selflessly. To protect the true roots of goodness, all sentient beings are true. Truly cut off all afflictions, quickly achieve true ultimate Buddhahood. Truly not understanding dialects, one should not truly extend words. For the true name of Mañjuśrī, possessing inconceivable true virtues. Seeing true benefit and abandoning right and wrong, translating truthfully to the best of one's ability. Where the true meaning is lost or the text is inverted, the wise should truly correct it.

The purest and most genuine mind, constantly bowing in reverence to the supreme one. The same teachings and commands of all Buddhas, I shall expound the various names of Manjushri (the embodiment of wisdom). With a body of wondrous color, excellent marks, and dignified form, the most尊 among all colors. Able to understand all marks and minor marks, Manjushri (Manjushri)'s courage is the truth. Possessing inconceivable thought and cutting through, from which vast arts and abilities arise. Pervading the three bodies in an inconceivable way, such intention and measure are inconceivable. With emptiness and samadhi as natural, the Dharma of emptiness is truly possessed. The nature of emptiness yearns for ultimate bliss, the Dharma of the three realms demonstrates emptiness. 【English Translation】 English version The Dragon Kings of the Sagara (Sagara, a sea in Hindu and Buddhist cosmology), are also lords possessing the aggregates (Skandhas, the five aggregates of existence). Sentient beings rely on their own kind, the most venerable among their kind, entering the minds of the masses, capturing the minds of the masses. Those who understand Brahma-conduct are immaculate and pure venerable ones, also lords of the assembly of stars. Also lords of the great ascetic of patience, also those with the position of a future Buddha, possessing the throne. After praising and speaking of Manjushri's excellent qualities in this way, comprehend and understand, constantly reciting in the heart. All evil karma can be avoided, attaining the most extremely pure fruit. The one hundred and eight names and other names, a man constantly recites in three periods of time. The intentions that arise can all be as desired, in a heart without doubt, all can be attained. Those who remember and uphold the excellent qualities, are far from the karma of the Avici hell, all is purified. All impure evil karma, like this, all can be eliminated and extinguished. When approaching the end of life and departing to another direction, if evil signs and evil realms appear. Among all the assembled beings, you are so supreme, like the full moon that outshines all light. You purify all ignorance and afflictions, Manjushri, I pay homage to you. Your hair flames upwards, extremely bright, jewels glittering, your body dignified. Your eyes are dark blue, your body emits blazing flames, Manjushri, I pay homage to you. Your nectar has one flavor, profound and soft, entering the heart, your voice resounding. You are the treasure of true and wonderful Dharma, Manjushri, I pay homage to you. In every place in the Saha world, who can measure the number of raindrops? You abandon all defilements of afflictions, Manjushri, I pay homage to you. Looking at Manjushri's eyes and body, it is like looking at a Mandala, never tiring. Offering all dharmas in a bowl to you, Manjushri, I pay homage to you. You dwell in the places of all Buddhas in the ten directions, constantly praising with a vast voice. You are the greatest teacher of sentient beings, Manjushri, I pay homage to you. With this virtue, may I attain Buddhahood, having attained it, may I destroy all faults and enemies. In the ocean of suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death, may I extensively liberate all sentient beings in samsara (Saṃsāra). In the state of not having realized the truth, may I obtain the position of a wise king who governs affairs well. May I diligently cultivate the three learnings (morality, concentration, and wisdom) to perfection, constantly benefiting others without regression. All the Buddhas, ultimate Bodhisattvas (Bodhisattva), and all Śrāvakas (Śrāvaka). May the Dharma (Dharma) that is free from defilements be firm, and may I always respectfully regard all places of Bodhi (Bodhi). Seeking to cultivate the wonderful Dharma (Dharma) of good reputation, may its fragrance spread far to the ten directions. If I attain ultimate perfect enlightenment, may I constantly offer all offerings. To those who can be relied upon as protectors and refuges, may I humbly respect those with virtues. Like such places of knowledge of perfect enlightenment, may I always be close to them. May merit be as solid as Mount Sumeru (Sumeru), and may wisdom be as bright as the sun and moon. May my name spread far like the vastness of space, may these three wishes always be fulfilled. May my life extend beyond a hundred years, free from illness, and may my enjoyment of resources increase. May I be born into a Mahāyāna (Mahāyāna) lineage, may these five wishes always be fulfilled. Six Pāramitā (Pāramitā) Verses

All things in this world are like illusions, the receiver of generosity, the giver, and the object given are all empty in nature. Like this, giving according to one's ability, the Dāna pāramitā (Dāna pāramitā) of generosity is perfected. Upholding precepts and being free from defilements, possessing purity without transgression. Being free from attachment to precepts, the Śīla pāramitā (Śīla pāramitā) of discipline is perfected. This body is composed of earth, water, fire, and wind, the four elements combined, its nature is empty. Without anger towards any harm, the Kṣānti pāramitā (Kṣānti pāramitā) of patience is perfected. Diligently practicing without end, determined to cultivate, the defilements of laziness cannot invade. Body and mind possessing such strength, the Vīrya pāramitā (Vīrya pāramitā) of diligence is perfected. Various Samādhis (Samādhi) that are like illusions, courageous and fearless right concentration. The Samādhi (Samādhi) that is as firm as a diamond.

【English Translation】 English version: The perfection of Dhyana Paramita (Perfection of Meditation) is complete, The three doors of liberation: Emptiness (Śūnyatā), Signlessness (Animitta), and Wishlessness (Apranihita), the three worlds are equal, the only truth. Embodying and understanding all enlightenments, the principle of Suchness, the perfection of Prajna Paramita (Perfection of Wisdom) is complete. All that the Tathagatas speak, the light is blazing, with majestic and divine power, the courage of Bodhi, the power of diligence, may all my wishes be fulfilled now.

The Supreme Appearance of the Five-Syllable True Word in the Vajrasekhara Sutra says: If a person recites it once, it is like reciting eighty-four thousand twelve collections of the Vedas. If recited twice, Manjushri and Samantabhadra (two Bodhisattvas) will follow and bless them. The Dharma-protecting good deities are in front of that person. Furthermore, if a good man or good woman can hold this true word and recite it once, they will enter the equality of all dharmas of the Tathagata, and all words will also be equal, and they will quickly attain Maha Prajna (Great Wisdom). Furthermore, if recited once, it can remove all the sufferings of the practitioner. If recited twice, it can eliminate the heavy sins of birth and death for billions of kalpas. If recited three times, Samadhi (Meditation) will appear. If recited four times, Dharani (Total Retention) will not be forgotten. If recited five times, one will quickly attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi (Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment). 【English Translation】 English version: After the practitioner has recited the Dharma mantras correctly for a full month, Manjusri Bodhisattva (曼殊菩薩, Bodhisattva of Wisdom) will manifest his form. Or he will expound the essential Dharma in the air. At this time, the practitioner will obtain knowledge of past lives (宿命智, knowledge of past lives), unhindered eloquence, and supernatural powers and freedom (神足自在, supernatural powers and freedom). Superior vows will be accomplished, and blessings and wisdom will be complete. One will quickly be able to realize the Dharmakaya (如來法身, Dharmakaya) of the Tathagata. As long as one believes and accepts it in their heart, they will definitely attain perfect enlightenment (正覺, perfect enlightenment) after sixteen rebirths.
