Homa Ritual Extracted from the Auspicious Manjushri Samata Observation Gate Great Teaching King Sutra
Translated by Cixian, Tripitaka Master from Magadha, Central India, Great Khitan State of the Song Dynasty
I take refuge in all Buddhas, and all great Bodhisattvas. I will now speak of the Homa (hù mó, transliteration of Sanskrit homa, meaning fire sacrifice) and its various rituals. First, recite the mantra (zhēn yán, meaning secret incantation), bless the shovel and hoe (qiāo jué, digging tools), then explain in detail, and say the mantra of blessing:
Om(ōng) Hūm(hōng) Khagana Vasudhi(two) Svaha(two combined)賀(hè)
Recite this mantra to bless the shovel and hoe, and dig the Homa fire pit. Before digging the pit, first take river water and place it in a clean vessel, and recite the mantra of the Buddha of this section to bless it. Sprinkle the water on the ground, purify the shovel and hoe, and sprinkle it on the person digging the pit. The mantra for sprinkling and purification is:
Om(ōng)(引一) Amrita(two combined) Gū(two) Nabhava(two combined) Vaya(three) Hum(four) Phat(five) Svaha(two combined) (six)
If following the Homa method, the night before digging the pit, use the mantra of the Upper Directional King to bless uncooked rice, and offer it to the land and the Eight Divisions of Gods and Dragons. Then the pit can be dug. The soil from inside the pit should be collected in a clean place. Then take sand from the river, and first bless the sand with a mantra. The mantra is:
Om(ōng)(引一) Vasumati(two) Vasushri(two combined) Ye(three) Om(ōng)(four)
After reciting this mantra to bless it, fill the sand into the pit. Next, use the powder of five grains (wǔ gǔ, five types of grains), seven treasures, and four metals to rub on it. Then you can use clean adobe bricks (jī, soil bricks). Build the Homa fire pit, do not use bricks. First recite the mantra of Vajra Karma (jīn gāng jié mó, vajra karma, diamond karma) Bodhisattva. The mantra for blessing the clean adobe bricks is:

After blessing in this way, use clean adobe bricks
如法砌之。護摩法者說其四種。其四種者。一訕底(此言息災)二補瑟置(此云增益或云富貴)三嚩舍(此云敬愛)四阿尾左啰(此云降伏)此四護摩爐亦四種。其四種者。若求訕底當作圓爐。若求補瑟置(二合)爐如半月或作八角。若求嚩舍爐作四角。若求阿尾左啰爐作三角。此之四種隨所應作。次說護摩爐量。略有三種。第一供養爐八肘。是八角爐也。量深二肘。第二供養爐一肘半。量深一肘半。四面共六肘。第三供養爐一肘。四面共四肘深亦一肘。隨爐大小作三重緣。于爐前面第三緣上西邊。量比正半。亦用凈墼砌作九重至上漸小。于正半右邊壘作層級。正半左邊上下直砌。爐緣三重表為三界。其九層級表為九地也。如是作已當於爐內砂上墼下。采於七寶四鐵末五穀。想如五種子及七寶四鐵所成。七寶者(金銀真珠水精玉琉璃琥珀)四鐵者(金銀銅鐵)五穀者(稻糯大麥菉豆油麻)其五穀四鐵末。誦毗盧佛真言加持。真言曰。

誦此真言已。當用香泥而泥於爐。如上次第佈置訖。應于爐中諦想壇場運心安布。作訕底法當想佛身形如白色。復觀己身形相亦爾。應於左手力度第二文上捻數珠。燒物供養。用水精數珠一百八個。面向東坐作補瑟置(二合)法。想佛金色自身亦爾。于愿度中節內捻數。珠用菩提子一百個。面向南坐。作嚩舍法。想佛赤黃色自身亦爾。于方度中節內捻數珠。用蓮子九十個。面向西坐。作阿尾左啰法。想佛綠色自身亦爾。于力度第一文上捻數珠。用槵子七十個面向北坐。若作護摩法隨時四種所求之事。當於爐內各別想壇。隨所作部主想安中方。若於四種護摩法外。如恒常供養。中方想阿閦佛。數珠或一百八或所用不定。其上想壇法廣如大教說。如是運想已。應取吉祥草(用青妙細軟草代之)當用於八結安於爐八方。表想凈八位。

Dharma Paramita Bodhisattva (The Bodhisattva of the Perfection of Dharma):

Karma Paramita Bodhisattva (The Bodhisattva of the Perfection of Action):
Om (seed syllable) Karma Vajri Ah
After reciting and empowering with the Four Vidyas (Four Wisdoms), use it within the furnace. Apply all kinds of incense powder mixed with mud. The mantra for empowering the mud is as follows:
Om Vasumati Shriye Shri Vasudhi Bhava Svaha
After reciting this mantra, one should apply the fragrant mud to the furnace. After arranging everything in the order as before, one should visualize the mandala within the furnace and mentally establish it. When performing the pacifying ritual (Shanti), one should visualize the Buddha's body as white. Then, visualize one's own form as such. One should count the beads on the second line of the strength finger of the left hand. Offer burnt offerings. Use 108 crystal beads. Sit facing east to perform the enriching ritual (Pushti). Visualize the Buddha's body as golden, and one's own form as such. Count the beads within the joints of the wish-fulfilling degree. Use 100 Bodhi seeds. Sit facing south to perform the subjugating ritual (Vashya). Visualize the Buddha's body as reddish-yellow, and one's own form as such. Count the beads within the joints of the directional degree. Use 90 lotus seeds. Sit facing west to perform the wrathful ritual (Abhichara). Visualize the Buddha's body as green, and one's own form as such. Count the beads on the first line of the strength finger. Use 70 soapberry seeds. Sit facing north. If performing the Homa ritual, according to the four kinds of desired outcomes, one should visualize separate mandalas within the furnace. According to the principal deity of the ritual being performed, visualize them as being placed in the center. If outside of the four kinds of Homa rituals, such as in constant offerings, visualize Akshobhya Buddha (Immovable Buddha) in the center. The number of beads can be either 108 or unspecified. The method of visualizing the mandala above is extensively described in the Great Teachings. After visualizing in this way, one should take auspicious grass (substitute with fine, soft, green grass) and place it in eight knots around the eight directions of the furnace, representing the purity of the eight positions.
又用草三結安佈於爐中表凈三寶位。又以吉祥草三結為一系。三系共九結。護摩最初燒而表凈爐法。更用草二結。一結安灌頂瓶內。一結安右手戒度上。想如護摩杵。亦表凈手法表為金剛手。其草結如金剛杵形。以四智真言加持真言曰。

Also, use three bundles of auspicious grass tied into one string, with three strings totaling nine knots. At the beginning of the homa (fire ritual), burn this to represent the purification of the brazier. Further, use two bundles of grass tied into knots, placing one knot inside the vase for abhiseka (灌頂瓶, empowerment vase) and one knot on the right hand's precept mudra (戒度), visualizing it as the homa pestle, also representing the purification of the hand, symbolizing Vajrapani (金剛手). The shape of these grass knots resembles the vajra (金剛杵). Sprinkle it with scented water and recite the Vairocana (毗盧) mantra to consecrate it, which is: Om (引一) Vajra (二合) Dhatu (二) Vam (三) After performing the consecration, place the firewood inside the brazier, with the root and tip oriented in the proper direction. If the firewood has thorns, it should not be used in the ritual. After arranging it as described above, one should consecrate the homa firewood with a mantra, also reciting the Vairocana mantra for consecration. In Sanskrit, it is called 'pancha srayah rashti' (半左薩曳啰瑟恥(二合)), here called 'five milk firewood', representing the offering of the correct seed-food to the Five Tathagatas (五如來). The 'five milk firewood' refers to trees like the banyan tree (尼俱律陀樹) etc. Since the conditions are not available here, one can only take firewood that is not withered and has no fruit. The branches should be slender, and the tips and roots should be dipped in ghee (酥). Use three sticks or five branches, or two.
十五枝。而投於火中。想供養于佛。當用五種谷。作法燒供養。誦金剛波羅蜜菩薩真言。先加持五穀。真言曰。

如是加持已。表是凈供養。當以根本波羅蜜真言。加持五般飯(與五粥同)真言曰。

Next, offer flowers and throw them into the brazier. Visualize the flowers placed on the Buddha's head. Flower Offering Dharani:

Next, offer scented paste and sprinkle it into the fire. Visualize the fragrance anointing all the Buddhas. Scented Paste Offering Dharani says:
Om (seed syllable one) sa-wa-da-ta-qie-duo (two) jian-tuo-bu-re
Also offer incense. Visualize the fragrance entering the Buddha's nostrils, offering to all the Tathagatas. Burning Incense Offering Dharani says:

All the remaining grains, porridge, etc., should be placed in a separate container with other food, as well as various flowers and fruits, sprinkled with scented ointment, and then fumigated with burning incense. First, make the Hook Summons Mudra, the Samaya Lotus Mudra, and the Vajra Binding Mudra. Then, lower half of the water, ring the bell, recite the mantra to bless the rice, and visualize the offering.
