爾時金剛手大藥叉將。在彼眾會從座而起。偏袒右肩右膝著地。于佛世尊合掌禮敬。而白佛言世尊。曼殊室利童真不廣說閻曼德迦忿怒王。我觀未來有情。如來涅槃后佛教隱滅。大恐怖末法之時。無聲聞緣覺遠離佛剎。護持正法故法界久住故。制伏一切難調悖逆偽王故。不利益三寶者。菩薩善巧以此不思議法。治罰調伏滿足故。以不思議法成熟離惡趣故。于佛法磨滅時。令住持佛法者依法教。持誦閻曼德迦忿怒王皆悉決定成就。不益於佛教有情及悖逆偽王。于佛教不益者有情。應用閻曼德迦忿怒王非余類者。爾時世尊默然入遊戲神通加持三昧。曼殊室利菩薩亦寂默而住。一切集會眾六種震動。天眾皆悉驚忙惶怖。一切天龍阿修羅王。及諸母天一切曜等並天人眾。彼等震動心生苦惱。噁心布單那暴惡者。並皆歸依法王教及秘密主藥叉金剛手大威德。及歸依曼殊室利童真真言三么耶。彼等咸作是言。曼殊室利愿垂哀愍救護。我等被此忿怒真言燒爍。我輩皆受楚苦悶絕擗地。時大威德以曼殊室利童

The Mahayana Extensive and Vast Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva Avataṃsaka Original Teaching Yamāntaka (降閻魔尊) Wrathful King Mantra Great Awesome Virtue Ritual Section Thirty

At that time, the Vajrapāṇi (金剛手) great Yaksha general, in that assembly, arose from his seat, bared his right shoulder, placed his right knee on the ground, and with palms joined, paid homage to the Buddha, saying: 'World Honored One, Mañjuśrī (曼殊室利) the pure youth, has not extensively spoken of Yamāntaka (降閻魔尊) the Wrathful King. I observe sentient beings of the future, after the Tathagata's Nirvana, the Buddha's teachings will be obscured, in the time of great terror and the end of Dharma, without Śrāvakas or Pratyekabuddhas far from the Buddha-fields. For the sake of upholding the Proper Dharma, for the sake of the Dharma realm abiding long, for the sake of subduing all the difficult to tame, rebellious, and false kings, for the sake of those who do not benefit the Three Jewels, the Bodhisattva skillfully uses this inconceivable Dharma, to govern, punish, and tame, so as to fulfill it. With inconceivable Dharma, to mature sentient beings, to depart from evil destinies. At the time when the Buddha's Dharma is extinguished, to cause those who uphold the Buddha's Dharma to rely on the Dharma teachings, reciting the Yamāntaka (降閻魔尊) Wrathful King, all will definitely achieve success. For those who do not benefit the Buddha's teachings, sentient beings, and rebellious false kings, for sentient beings who are not beneficial to the Buddha's teachings, Yamāntaka (降閻魔尊) Wrathful King should be used, not other methods.' At that time, the World Honored One silently entered the Samadhi of Playful Supernatural Power Adhisthana. Mañjuśrī (曼殊室利) Bodhisattva also remained silent. All the ** assemblies shook in six ways. The heavenly hosts were all alarmed and flustered. All the Nagas, Asura Kings, and all the Mother Goddesses, all the planets and constellations, and the heavenly beings, they all trembled, and suffering arose in their hearts. The evil-minded Pūtana (臭餓鬼) and violent beings, all took refuge in the Dharma King's teachings and the Secret Lord Yaksha Vajrapāṇi (金剛手) Great Awesome Virtue, and took refuge in Mañjuśrī (曼殊室利) the pure youth's mantra Samaya (誓約). They all said: 'Mañjuśrī (曼殊室利), may you have compassion and pity and protect us. We are being scorched by this wrathful mantra, we are all suffering pain and anguish and fainting to the ground.' 【English Translation】 English version They all are free from all fears; if one makes offerings to them, one will receive great protection, as well as the blessings of Bṛhatphala (廣果天) and Śubhakṛtsna (福生天). The gods of the Form and Formless realms, free from desire and possessing great power, make offerings to the Three Jewels and have pure faith in Buddhism. They have no fear from friends or foes; this is called Samaya (三昧耶, vow), which is difficult for mantras to surpass. This is the most excellent among the Wrathful Ones, spoken by Yamāntaka (閻曼德迦), universally protecting all sentient beings, as well as all gods and humans. They all generate joy and abide in their original vows. The Buddha's disciples all praise, hearing these sharp words. The Yakṣa (藥叉) lord becomes wrathful, shaking countless thousands of worlds at that time. It is useless for the Wrathful King to do this. Why have the Buddha's disciples already proclaimed the power of the Wrathful King, subduing those violent sentient beings? In the midst of the assembly, he loudly proclaims the command. Vajrapāṇi (金剛手) finishes speaking and throws away the Vajra (金剛杵). Then, that greatly powerful Mañjuśrī (妙音智慧尊), the Wisdom One, scoffs in the form of a youth and speaks thus: 'Do not be evil, great Yakṣa, the power of Vajrapāṇi. This sacred Wrathful King Mahāsukha (大自在) that I speak of, I now grant to you; widely proclaim it as you wish. Can you fully describe the power of the Wrathful King? This is what you should uphold, as it appears within your own body. Summon them all to gather, and ask and answer with a clear mind. Unable to manifest transformations, Wrathful Āveśa (阿尾奢), I allow you to widely proclaim, unless you abandon the Samaya (三摩耶, vow).' Not bathing and indulging in sleep, following after love and desire, applying oil and being greedy for washing and adornment, the mind constantly filled with anger. Abandoning the excellent mantra, having no pure faith in Buddhism, doubting the true Dharma, acting evilly and having no pure faith. Slandering and destroying the wonderful Dharma and the Sangha Jewel, the mind scattered, defiling the Three Jewels, being in an impure state. Not keeping the secret of the mantra, constantly defiled and without compassion, performing defiled acts in the Devarāja-kula (天室寺) monastery. Those of these kinds, the Wrathful One will destroy them, breaking the Samaya vows, yet not knowing.


相應明  乃至微虧行  忿怒皆治罰  人間一切處  不可免放逸  放逸心染著  若毀三昧耶  忿怒王得便  愚夫一切處  隨順於放逸  修行真言者  應離欲解脫  如聲聞緣覺  忿怒王能逼  曼殊悲愍心  說如是語已  諸佛難思行  及菩薩大威  作如是語已  寂默而安住

爾時吉祥大威德金剛手菩薩。既蒙印可踴躍歡喜。復引手捫持金剛杵。

In all places of the human world, it is impossible to avoid negligence. If a negligent mind becomes attached and violates the Samaya (vow), The Wrathful King will take advantage. Foolish people everywhere Will comply with negligence. Those who practice mantra, Should seek liberation by detaching from desires, like the Śrāvakas (hearers) and Pratyekabuddhas (solitary realizers). The Wrathful King can compel. Mañju (Mañjuśrī, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom), with a compassionate heart, Having spoken these words, the inconceivable actions of all Buddhas, And the great power of the Bodhisattvas, having spoken these words, Remained in silence and peace.

At that time, the auspicious, greatly powerful Vajrapāṇi (the Bodhisattva holding the Vajra). Having received approval, he rejoiced and danced, and then stroked his Vajra (diamond scepter) with his hand.
