(Nāga and other supernatural beings)、人和非人等,啼哭著面向佛陀,四面哽咽,悲傷惱恨地住立。

【English Translation】 English version The Dhāraṇī and Ritual Methods of the Ugra Vajra Who Pacifies All Defilements and Exceeds All Magical Powers, as Spoken by the Ugra Vajra

Translated by Tripiṭaka Ācārya (Master of the Three Baskets) Achita of Northern India, translated into Chinese as 'Invincible'.

Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was in the Kuśinagara country, at the birthplace of the strongmen, by the Bhadrā River, between the twin Śāla trees. At that time, the Tathagata (Tathāgata, 'Thus Gone One', an epithet of the Buddha) was about to enter Nirvana. At that time, there were countless hundreds of thousands of multitudes of Nāgas (Nāga and other supernatural beings), humans, and non-humans, weeping and facing the Buddha, sobbing on all sides, grieving and distressed. At that time, there were also multitudes of devas (devas, gods), including Śakra Devānām Indra (Śakra Devānām Indra, the lord of the gods), all coming to make offerings. Only Ghaṇṭākeśa Brahmā (Ghaṇṭākeśa Brahmā, Brahma with a bell-shaped topknot), leading the deva maidens, relied on the four sides, surrounded and seated. There were tens of millions of deva maidens before and behind, mutually entertaining each other. They heard that the Tathagata was about to enter Parinirvana (Parinirvana, complete Nirvana), but did not come to pay respects and visit. At that time, the multitudes discussed, saying, 'Today the Tathagata is about to enter Parinirvana, why does this Brahma not come? This Brahma must have arrogance in his heart, and therefore does not come here. Let us, the disciples, send small mantra-reciting immortals to go there and capture him.' Having said these words, they dispatched hundreds of thousands of mantra-reciting immortals to that place. They saw various impure things serving as city moats. When these immortals saw this, they each violated their mantras and died. At that time, the multitudes felt strange, something unprecedented. They again dispatched countless Vajras (Vajra, diamond-bearing deities), also ordering them to recite mantras and go. Even after seven days, no one was able to capture the Brahma. The multitudes, seeing this matter, were even more grieved. At that time, the multitudes spoke in unison, reciting a verse:

'Bitter it is, O Great Holy One! Why so quickly enter into Suchness (Tathata, the true nature of things)? The devas can still decide, the devas and humans can still summon back. Painful it is, O God of Gods (Devātideva, the supreme being beyond all gods), entering Suchness is like a flame extinguished.'

At that time, after the multitudes finished reciting this verse, they sobbed even more, weeping and wailing. At this time, the Tathagata, pitying the multitudes, immediately used his great all-knowing divine power to emanate an Acala-vajra (Acala-vajra, immovable diamond) from his left heart. He immediately arose from his seat in the midst of the assembly and said to the multitudes, 'I have a great divine mantra that can capture that Brahma.' Having said these words.

【English Translation】 English version:

Immediately manifested great supernatural powers within the assembly, transforming this triple thousand great thousand world, causing it to shake six times. Heavenly palaces, dragon palaces, and the palaces of all ghosts and spirits all collapsed and were destroyed. Then, he ascended to where Brahmā (lord of the Form Realm) was, and pointed his finger at him, transforming his ugly and filthy things into the earth. At that time, Vajra (a Dharma protector deity in Buddhism) went to Brahmā and told him, 'You are so foolish! My Tathāgata (an epithet of the Buddha) is about to enter Nirvana (the state of liberation from the cycle of birth and death), why don't you go?' Then, with the indestructible power of Vajra, he gently pointed at him, and Brahmā resolved to go to where the Tathāgata was. At that time, the assembly praised, 'Great hero, you actually have such divine power to bring Brahmā here.' Then, Vajra replied, 'If sentient beings in the world are troubled by devas, evil demons, and all heretics, just recite my mantra ten thousand times, and I will appear myself, fulfilling the wishes of all sentient beings, forever freeing them from poverty, and constantly bringing them peace and happiness.' The mantra is as follows. First, make this great vow: 'Namo (homage to) my original teacher Sakyamuni Buddha (the founder of Buddhism). After the Tathāgata's extinction, I will uphold this mantra, vowing to liberate sentient beings, so that the Buddha-dharma will not perish and will abide in the world for a long time.' After saying this vow, he then proclaimed the Great Perfection Dharani Divine Mantra, the Ugra-smrti mantra, saying: 'Om (seed syllable) 𠲽咶 啒㖀 Mahā Prala(two combined) [口*恨]na 𠵨(three sounds) Vam Jih Vam (four sounds) Vi Ki Vi Mana Si (six sounds) Wu Shen Mu (seven sounds) 啒㖀 𤙖𤙖 Phat Phat Phat Svaha (a common ending phrase for mantras)' At that time, Vajra, after saying this mantra, further said, 'After the Tathāgata's extinction, I will constantly recite this mantra. If there are sentient beings who uphold this mantra, I will constantly be their servant, fulfilling their wishes. Today, I speak this divine mantra before the Tathāgata, may the Tathāgata know us in truth. World-Honored One, if there are sentient beings who are often troubled by evil ghosts and spirits, this mantra will prevent them from being harmed, forever freeing them from suffering. World-Honored One, if there are good men and good women who wish to cure all kinds of diseases, recite this mantra four hundred thousand times, and when you see a sick person, use this mantra to cure them, and it will surely be effective. Regardless of whether it is clean or unclean, use it at will, and I will follow and fulfill all wishes. If you want a withered tree'

【English Translation】 English version For generating branches and leaves: Take one tael (approximately 37.3 grams) of white frankincense. Apply it to the heart of the tree. Chant the Yangzhi mantra (a type of mantra) over the tree one hundred times. Do this three times a day for three days, and the tree will blossom and bear fruit. If you want to make a dried-up spring produce water, surround it with clean ashes. Then place three dou (approximately 30 liters) of Jinghua water (the first well water drawn in the morning) into the spring. Chant the mantra one hundred and eight times during the Yin hour (3-5 AM), and the water will gush out like a wheel. If you want to make a barren mountain grow grass and trees, take a steel knife and draw lines around the mountain on all four sides. Chant the mantra three thousand times, and after seven days, grass and trees will grow. If you want to subdue wild beasts, burn benzoin (a type of incense) and chant the mantra one thousand times towards the place where the beasts live. At night, those beasts will gather at the door of the mantra holder, surrendering like domestic animals, and can be driven at will, never leaving. If you want a Yaksha (a type of evil spirit) to come and surrender on its own, take ten peach branches and cut them to the same length. Take one shi (approximately 60 liters) of water and boil it down to five dou (approximately 30 liters). Remove the peach and willow branches. Take three taels (approximately 112 grams) of cloves, three taels (approximately 112 grams) of ** incense, and three taels (approximately 112 grams) of white frankincense. Then boil them together with the willow water down to five dou (approximately 30 liters). Place it in a broken basin. Take a peach branch, three chi (approximately 1 meter) long, stir the water, and chant the mantra one hundred times. All Yakshas and Rakshasas (two types of evil spirits) will appear, talk to the mantra holder, and ask to be servants first. If you want to eliminate the poison of various evil spirits, poisonous snakes, scorpions, fierce beasts, etc., surround the holes where they live with clean ashes. When they come out on their own, gently chant the mantra one hundred times. Those snakes and all poisonous creatures will each eliminate their poisonous hearts, dare not harm people, and quickly be liberated. If you want to prevent vicious dogs from harming people, take a ball of food, chant the mantra seven times, and give it to the dog to eat. It will never harm people or make a sound. If you want to subdue an evil person, write down that person's name and place it under the feet of the mantra holder. Chant the mantra one hundred times. Think of that person in your mind, and that person will come immediately. Subdue him and make him abandon his resentment.

【English Translation】 English version: Write the person's name under the foot. Recite the mantra three hundred times. You should make a great vow for that person. At that time, I will personally deliver it. Eloquence will be unhindered, following the wishes of the practitioner. All that is needed will be given. If the mantra holder seeks various treasures, Mani (wish-fulfilling jewel) and other such things, just sincerely recite the mantra, setting a limit on the amount. I will personally deliver it, fulfilling their wishes. If you want to cure people's illnesses, make the 'Sudden Illness Seal'. First, use the left hand's index and middle fingers to press the 'Rope Pattern'. Use this seal to recite the mantra one hundred times, and stamp the patient with a sudden illness seven times, and they will be cured immediately. If the patient is near death, first use the 'Prohibition of the Five Paths Seal' and then treat them. This is the mudra of the 'Non-Death Seal'. Like this, first prepare the seal, bend the ring finger towards the palm, raise the little finger, and recite the mantra one hundred times, and their suffering will be quickly eliminated.

If treating an evil illness, just burn benzoin incense next to the patient's head and recite the mantra, and it will be eliminated immediately. If it is a disease caused by insect poison, write the patient's name on paper and recite the mantra, and they will be cured immediately. Treating diseases caused by spirits is also done in this way. If treating a 'Hidden Connection' illness, write down the patient's name and the name of the ghost causing the illness. Bury it under the patient's bed and recite the mantra. That ghost will offer its name from afar and appear itself. Then, make that ghost look at the affairs of the three lifetimes, and explain them in detail to the person, and their illness will be quickly cured. If someone is suffering from an epidemic disease, the mantra master will see them and they will be cured immediately. If you want to prevent the King of Wandering Disease Ghosts from entering the territory, recite this mantra of mine one thousand eight hundred times on the ten vegetarian days, and it can eliminate diseases within ten thousand miles.
