西天中印度摩伽陀國那爛陀寺三藏傳教大師賜紫沙門臣法天奉 詔譯

爾時世尊。告舍利子阿難陀等。我今宣說無能勝大明王陀羅尼。為彼人天作利樂故。若有吠多拏及步多等。於此大明王起根本業作諸障難。乃至藥叉羅剎娑。起暴惡業欲破此明王者無能破壞。即說咒曰。

怛你野(二合)他(引一)賀娑你(引二)尾賀娑你(引三)護魯祖魯魯(四)娑嚩(二合引)賀(引五)

若有聰慧之人。於此明王心不疑慮尊重受持者。彼人于啰惹門或在師子中。在道路時或非道路。心常憶念。乃至魔王處及遇彼冤家。以此明王常自擁護無諸恐怖。即說咒曰。

爾時世尊告訴舍利子(Śāriputra,佛陀十大弟子之一)阿難陀(Ānanda,佛陀十大弟子之一)等,『我今宣說無能勝大明王陀羅尼,爲了使人天得到利益和快樂。如果有吠多拏(Vetāla,一種惡鬼)及步多(Bhūta,一種鬼)等,對此大明王起根本業,製造各種障礙,乃至藥叉(Yakṣa,一種守護神)羅剎娑(Rākṣasa,一種惡鬼),發起暴惡之業想要破壞此明王,都不能破壞。』 即說咒曰:

『怛你野(二合)他(引一)賀娑你(引二)尾賀娑你(引三)護魯祖魯魯(四)娑嚩(二合引)賀(引五)』

若有聰慧之人,對此明王心不疑慮,尊重受持,此人在啰惹(Rāja,國王)門或在師子(獅子)中,在道路時或不在道路,心中常憶念,乃至魔王處及遇到冤家,以此明王常自擁護,沒有各種恐怖。即說咒曰:

『怛你野(二合)他(引一)度弭(引二)度度弭(引三)度么(引)嚩諦(四)娑嚩(二合引)賀(引五)』

若有女人,專注受持,又能書寫戴在頂上,此人所有財物,恒常豐盈,沒有耗散,一切眷屬都得安樂。即說咒曰:

『怛你野(二合)他(引一)惹嚩惹嚩(二)惹嚩你(引三)娑嚩(二合引)賀(引四)』

若有女人身懷其孕,很久不能生產,遭受各種苦惱,受持此明,都能容易生產。即說咒曰

【English Translation】 English version The Buddha Speaks the Great Invincible Bright King Dhāraṇī Sūtra

Translated by the Tripiṭaka Preaching Master, the Purple-Robed Śrāmaṇa Fǎtiān, by Imperial Decree, of Nālandā Monastery in Magadha, Central India.

At that time, the World Honored One told Śāriputra (one of the Buddha's ten great disciples), Ānanda (one of the Buddha's ten great disciples), and others, 'I now proclaim the Great Invincible Bright King Dhāraṇī, for the benefit and happiness of humans and devas. If there are Vetāla (a type of evil spirit) and Bhūta (a type of ghost), etc., who initiate fundamental actions against this Great Bright King, creating various obstacles, even Yakṣas (a type of guardian deity) and Rākṣasas (a type of demon), who initiate violent and evil actions intending to destroy this Bright King, they will be unable to destroy it.' Then He spoke the mantra, saying:

'Tadyathā (引一) Hāsani (引二) Vihāsani (引三) Huru zuru ru (四) Svāhā (引五)'

If there is a wise person who, without doubt, respectfully receives and upholds this Bright King, whether at the Rāja (king's) gate or among lions, on the road or not on the road, constantly remembers it in their heart, even in the presence of the demon king or when encountering enemies, this Bright King will always protect them, and they will be free from all fear. Then He spoke the mantra, saying:

'Tadyathā (引一) Dumi (引二) Dudu mi (引三) Duma (引) vāti (四) Svāhā (引五)'

If there is a woman who attentively receives and upholds it, and can also write it and wear it on her head, all her possessions will be constantly abundant, without depletion, and all her family members will obtain peace and happiness. Then He spoke the mantra, saying:

'Tadyathā (引一) Java java (二) Javani (引三) Svāhā (引四)'

If there is a woman who is pregnant and has been unable to give birth for a long time, suffering various afflictions, by receiving and upholding this Bright One, she will be able to give birth easily. Then He spoke the mantra, saying:

若或有人于軍陣中互相殺時。此無能勝而為擁護鹹得安住。即說咒曰。

怛你野(二合)他(引一)吒吒跓(摘故反二)致跓(準上切三)娑嚩(二合引)賀(引四)

若或有人于迷醉時。或睡夢中乃至行住之時。彼步多眾無能嬈亂恒得安樂。又復有人以殷重心恒常受持諷誦宣說此無能勝。于晝夜中而為擁護。一心聽聞。即說咒曰。

我今宣說彼惡魔羅恃其力勢。現種種色相而來相持。菩薩見已止住其軍。同彼兄弟而說此言。我千俱胝劫為求菩提。舍自身命及以男女。乃至財寶而無吝惜。發大誓願修此精進難行苦行。為有情故起利他行。慈心悲愍覬得圓滿。彼惡魔羅見此事已。來為我障。菩薩是時憶念此無能勝大明王陀羅尼。以彼明力令彼魔羅及大軍眾。悉皆退散。即說咒曰。

於是明王現女人相。來菩薩前合掌頂上。而說頌曰。

【English Translation】 English version: Said: Tadyatha (引一): Thus it is, a common phrase to begin a mantra. Kasha Kasha (二): Space, sky. Vikasha (三): Special space. Maha (引) Kasha (四): Great space. Svaha (引五): Accomplishment. If there are people killing each other in the army, reciting this 'Invincible Great Bright King Dharani' can protect them and keep them safe. The mantra is: Tadyatha (引一): Thus it is, a common phrase to begin a mantra. Tata Tudha (摘故反二): Quickly, rapidly. Chidha (準上切三): Firmly, steadily. Svaha (引四): Accomplishment. If someone is intoxicated, or in a dream, or even walking and standing, those Bhuta (ghosts and spirits) beings cannot disturb them, and they will always be at peace. Furthermore, if someone with a sincere heart constantly upholds, recites, and proclaims this 'Invincible Great Bright King Dharani', they will be protected day and night, listening with one mind. The mantra is: Tadyatha (引一): Thus it is, a common phrase to begin a mantra. Hara (二): Take away, remove. Harara (三): Continuously take away. Svaha (引四): Accomplishment. I now proclaim that the evil demon Mara (the god of obstacles), relying on his power, manifests various forms to come and obstruct. When the Bodhisattva (enlightened being) sees this, he stops his army and speaks to them as if they were brothers: For thousands of kotis (extremely large numerical unit) of kalpas (eons), in order to seek Bodhi (enlightenment), I have given up my own life and the lives of my wife and children, and even my treasures, without the slightest reluctance. I have made great vows and practiced this diligent, difficult, and ascetic practice, initiating altruistic actions for the sake of sentient beings, hoping to achieve perfection with a compassionate heart. When the evil demon Mara sees this, he comes to obstruct me. At this time, the Bodhisattva remembers this 'Invincible Great Bright King Dharani', and with the power of this mantra, causes that Mara and his great army to scatter completely. The mantra is: Tadyatha (引一): Thus it is, a common phrase to begin a mantra. Iti Miti (二): Thus and so. Tira Mira (三): Steadfast and unmoving. Miti Mire (引) Ni (四): Continuously so. Svaha (引五): Accomplishment. Then, the Bright King (King of Wisdom) manifests the form of a woman, comes before the Bodhisattva, joins her palms at the top of her head, and speaks the verse: Great wisdom proclaims, like great light.


普照  而我於今日  降伏魔羅軍  如汝過去求  無上正等覺  乃得大無畏  魔羅軍降伏

我今以彼明力。破壞魔羅及大軍眾並諸眷屬。即說咒曰。

爾時世尊而說頌曰。

如來正等覺  令一切世間  得無上果者  毒藥不能害  器杖不能傷  火亦不能燒  至於眠睡中  常不見惡夢  若為王繫縛  及在賊手中  或山崖巇險  乃至於江河  一切恐怖難  悉皆得解脫  眾罪及苦惱  解脫而安隱  明力及慧力  而為大威德  凡所作事業  能速得成就

即說咒曰。

【English Translation】 English version Illumination And I, on this day, subdue Mara's army (Mara's army, referring to the forces that hinder spiritual practice). As you sought in the past, the Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment (Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, the highest complete enlightenment). Thus, attaining great fearlessness, Mara's army is subdued. Now, with that power of light, I destroy Mara and his great army, along with all their retinue. Thus, the mantra is spoken: Tadyatha: Kavacchi, Kavacha, Muli, Nakula, Kuhara, Malini, Svaha. At that time, the World Honored One spoke this verse: The Tathagata, the Perfectly Enlightened One, causes all beings in the world To attain the unsurpassed fruit; poison cannot harm them, Weapons cannot wound them, fire cannot burn them, Even in sleep, they never see evil dreams, If bound by a king, or in the hands of thieves, Or on dangerous cliffs, or even in rivers, All fearsome difficulties are completely liberated, All sins and sufferings are liberated and peaceful, The power of light and the power of wisdom are of great might and virtue, Whatever undertakings are made, they can be quickly accomplished. Thus, the mantra is spoken: Tadyatha: Sure, Susure, Vara, Vavara, Manobhava, Smara, Hule, Svaha, Male, Svaha. The Buddha said: 'When I was seeking Bodhi, and was a six-tusked white elephant, I provided protection for that hunter. If this is true, may all sentient beings be freed from all suffering. In a past life, when I was a turtle in the sea, my body was cut apart, but my heart had no anger. If this is true, may all sentient beings be freed from all illnesses.' Thus, the mantra is spoken: Tadyatha:

【English Translation】 English version: Ta (indicated by one) hi li mi li ni (two) du lu (two combined) weng bo neng (departing tone four) suo wa (two combined, indicated) he (indicated five).

The Buddha said: 'In my past lives, when I sought Bodhi (enlightenment), I bestowed various kinds of peace and happiness upon sentient beings (all living beings). Once, as a pheasant, I was captured by a hunter. What I wanted to give was the practice of cultivating loving-kindness and not generating anger.' Then he spoke the mantra:

Ta ni ye (two combined) ta (indicated by one) bi li (two) du du du ni (three) mo he (indicated) nang di (indicated four) suo wa (two combined, indicated) he (indicated five) du du du ni (indicated six) hi zhi mi zhi (seven) bi zhi li (eight) suo wa (two combined, indicated) he (indicated nine).

The Buddha said: 'When I was the Kshanti (patience) Immortal, I cultivated the practice of Kshanti Paramita (perfection of patience), my mind was without vexation, and I regarded all sentient beings as if they were my own children. My blood turned into milk. When I was seeking Bodhi and giving everything away, a Brahmin came before me and begged for my head. I gave him my head, and he tied me to a tree with a rope made of my hair. At that time, I generated compassion and did not become angry, viewing the Brahmin as if he were my own child. Even my wives and concubines, I gave them all away. I did not seek the pleasures of the five desires, nor the freedom of a king, nor the wealth and honor of the heavens, but truly to subdue Mara (demons that obstruct practice) and his retinue, and even to tame all enemies and attain the highest position. To destroy them, I spoke of great light and great power, which can give rise to the past practice of Bodhi. To subdue Mara, I now speak again.' Then he spoke the mantra:

我為你宣說。那大明咒的力量威德精進。天神(deva)與阿修羅(asura)兩軍對戰時。天神憶念此咒便能戰勝,阿修羅自然降伏。你天神的精進可以與一切阿修羅對抗。你天神的壽命有千年之久。伺機而動,阿修羅也無法得逞。若有無能勝的真實力量,成就后便可前往梵天(Brahma)。

Seize the opportunity, and the asuras will not succeed. If there is invincible true power, after achievement, one can go to Brahma.

佛告訴舍利子(釋迦牟尼佛的十大弟子之一)說:『仔細聽著,舍利子。這無能勝明王(一種明王)能利益安樂一切有情(眾生)。舍利子,過去世的時候,天(天神)與阿蘇羅(非天神)互相爭鬥。當時天眾潰敗逃散,阿蘇羅得勝。那時帝釋天主(眾天神之首),就將這無能勝陀羅尼(咒語)書寫在金葉上,安放在旗幟頂端,再次與阿蘇羅交戰。當時天眾得勝,阿蘇羅軍隊隨即潰散。』即說咒語如下:

The Buddha said, 'In the later part of the night, at the first light of dawn, in order to accomplish the supreme and perfect practice in the world, to achieve the work of the Buddha, to attain Bodhi (enlightenment), and to subdue the demonic forces in the turning of the Dharma wheel (the propagation of the Buddha's teachings), there came a thousand kotis (an extremely large unit of quantity) of Pure Abode Devas, who expressed profound intentions before me and requested me to turn the Dharma wheel with gentle voices.'

The Buddha told Śāriputra (one of the ten great disciples of Śākyamuni Buddha), 'Listen carefully, Śāriputra. This Invincible Bright King (a type of Vidyaraja) can benefit and bring happiness to all sentient beings (all living beings). Śāriputra, in the past, the Devas (gods) and Asuras (demi-gods) fought each other. At that time, the Devas were defeated and scattered, and the Asuras were victorious. Then, Indra (the lord of the gods) wrote this Invincible Dharani (mantra) on golden leaves, placed it on the top of the banner, and fought the Asuras again. At that time, the Devas were victorious, and the Asura army immediately scattered.' Then he spoke the mantra as follows:
