若行者受持此咒者。先須畫像。于彩色中並不得和膠。于白㲲上畫一毗沙門神。七寶莊嚴衣甲。左手執戟槊。右手托腰上。其神腳下作二夜叉鬼。身並作黑色。其毗沙門面。作甚可畏形惡眼視一切鬼神勢。其塔奉釋迦牟尼佛。教汝若領天兵守界擁護國土。何護吾法。即擁遣第三子那吒捧行莫離其側。汝眼毒惡恐損眾生。爾時行者。若誦此咒時。就好地。勿使有穢惡之處。極令凈潔取牛糞塗地。即以香泥塗之。散種種花燒香供養。行者上下衣服。並須清凈

《Northern Vaiśravaṇa Heavenly King's Mantra for Following and Protecting the Army》

Translated separately by Da Guangzhi Bukong, a Tripitaka Master and Shramana of Daxingshan Temple, with the title of Special Advancement Test Honglu Secretary, but not included in the official scriptures.

Namo ratna-trayāya adhakhilu bhutarāya dishāya vaiśravaṇāya mahārājāya yakṣādhipataye svasti siddhyantu sarva śastra praśamanāya hi mama ṭaṭa viṣaya me panaya tha baṃni baṃni kuśa vaiśravaṇāya mahārājāya kiṃ bhadra ghani tara mama siddhyantu mama sarva sādhaya svāhā namo bhagavate siddhyantu mantra padāni svāhā

If a practitioner upholds this mantra, they must first create an image. Do not mix glue with the colored paints. On a white felt cloth, paint an image of the deity Vaiśravaṇa (one of the Four Heavenly Kings, guardian of the north), adorned with armor and ornaments of seven treasures. The left hand holds a halberd, and the right hand rests on the hip. Beneath the deity's feet, depict two Yakṣa (a type of guardian deity) ghosts, their bodies painted black. Vaiśravaṇa's face should be painted as extremely fearsome, with menacing eyes glaring at all ghosts and spirits. The pagoda enshrines Śākyamuni Buddha. (The Buddha) teaches, 'If you lead heavenly troops, guard the borders, and protect the country, why protect my Dharma?' Then dispatch the third son, Nata (a Buddhist protector deity), to carry (the Dharma) and not leave his side. Your eyes are poisonous and may harm sentient beings.' At this time, if the practitioner chants this mantra, they should choose a good place, free from filth and evil. Ensure it is extremely clean, smear the ground with cow dung, and then coat it with fragrant mud. Scatter various flowers and burn incense as offerings. The practitioner's upper and lower garments must be clean.


一上廁一洗浴。白月十五日夜。起首對像前。誦咒滿十萬遍訖。然後更取香泥復涂壇上。更取上妙好花散壇中。設種種飲食。行者取薰陸香一百八顆。各咒一遍散著火中。爾時毗沙門即現其身。行者若見神時取上好食飲。供養毗沙門神通。行者心中所愿其神悉見。若行者不見神時。即虛空中有聲云。汝但存心持誦。一切事汝欲者悉如意。若不見神及不聞聲。但有大風。或云遍滿佈其壇上。其法即成就。若無上件等相。行者誦咒七遍。縛得入者其法即成。更勿懷疑。

又法若行者欲得喝啰阇愛敬者。取赤小豆一顆咒一遍。投火中燒。如是滿一百八遍。其喝啰阇即遣人喚來極忽。

又法若欲得大官人愛敬者。取白芥子一顆。一咒投火中燒滿一百八遍。其官即自來敬仰大喜。

又法于白月十五日作壇。于像前作八肘。牛糞塗地了。取香泥重塗了。以五色畫作三重院。其壇內于中畫一大輪。四角拔折羅十字安之。第二院內。東面畫作一火珠光焰火出。南面畫三股。又西面畫一龍口中並出蓮華。北面畫一大縲。第三院中東面更畫師子。南面畫龍王。西面畫孔雀王鳥。北面畫羅剎手拄棒立地。壇四角各安香水瓶。內著雜果楊枝。咒師洗浴著新凈衣。于像前設種種飲食供養。即誦咒取呵梨勒一顆。一咒一遍投火中

燒之。滿一百八遍。從今已后。每日送一[金*迸]金與咒師永無乏少。若得此物即須用盡。不得留著。

又法咒蘇蜜及果子。一百八遍火中燒之。一切諸天皆大歡喜擁護咒師。

又法若欲遠行時。咒谷木柱行一切難處。悉得無怖。又法若惡人相惱亂者。心中想此咒神形。復舉心誦咒。未滿一遍。其人即不能動。

若欲好者。心放中相便得解脫。

又法若欲令怨家不同住者。取苦練子一百八顆。一咒投火中。其人即自遠去。

又法若咒胡麻一百八遍。散著火中。一切人盡來供養咒師。

又法若咒白芥子一百八遍散山中。一切惡獸不能傷人。其狩見人即自伏地不敢傷害。過去已後方即起去。

又法若欲乞雨時。取杏子一百八顆都咒三七遍。著有龍水中必得雨下。欲止雨時。取梧桐子火中燒之即止。

又法若行者欲乞食。先咒缽一百八遍。隨所到處。自然而得一切飲食了。飲食殘者當時自化去。若須飲食時。至心向缽者誦咒一遍。其缽依還如故。

又法若欲見功能天者。一日一夜不食。于佛前燒蘇合香。咒白花一百八遍。以散神前。其功能天即自現身。隨意所須一切愿滿。所求財寶即得稱意。

若欲辟除一切鬼神。咒白芥子及蘇。咒一顆一遍。投火中燒之

又一種方法是,如果唸誦咒語加持白芥子一百零八遍,散在山中,一切惡獸都不能傷人。那些獵手見到人就會自己伏在地上,不敢傷害,過去之後才會起身離去。

又一種方法是,如果想要祈雨時,取杏子一百零八顆,都念誦三七(二十一)遍咒語,放在有龍的水中,必定會下雨。想要停止下雨時,取梧桐子在火中焚燒,雨就會停止。

又一種方法是,如果修行者想要乞食,先念誦咒語加持缽一百零八遍,無論到什麼地方,自然而然就能得到一切飲食。飲食剩餘的當時就會自動消失。如果需要飲食時,至誠地對著缽唸誦一遍咒語,那個缽就會恢復如初。

又一種方法是,如果想要見到功能天(具有神通力的天神),一日一夜不吃飯,在佛前焚燒蘇合香,唸誦咒語加持白花一百零八遍,散在神前,那個功能天就會親自現身,隨意滿足你一切願望。所求的財寶就能如意得到。

如果想要辟除一切鬼神,唸誦咒語加持白芥子和酥油,唸誦一顆一遍,投入火中焚燒。

【English Translation】 English version Burn it, reciting it one hundred and eight times. From now on, offer one '[金*迸]金' (a type of metal) to the mantra master every day, and there will never be a shortage. If you obtain this item, you must use it all up and not keep any.

Another method is to chant mantras over ghee, honey, and fruits one hundred and eight times and burn them in the fire. All the devas (gods) will be very pleased and protect the mantra master.

Another method is, if you want to travel far, chant mantras over a wooden pillar made of Broussonetia papyrifera (paper mulberry) and walk through all difficult places without fear. Another method is, if evil people come to harass you, visualize the form of this mantra deity in your mind, and then recite the mantra with your heart. Before you finish reciting it once, that person will be unable to move.

If you want him to return to normal, stop visualizing in your mind, and he will be released.

Another method is, if you want an enemy to no longer live with you, take one hundred and eight seeds of Melia azedarach (chinaberry), and throw one into the fire each time you recite the mantra. That person will then leave far away on their own.

Another method is, if you chant mantras over sesame seeds one hundred and eight times and scatter them into the fire, everyone will come to make offerings to the mantra master.

Another method is, if you chant mantras over white mustard seeds one hundred and eight times and scatter them in the mountains, all evil beasts will not be able to harm people. Those hunters will prostrate themselves on the ground when they see people, not daring to harm them, and will only get up and leave after they have passed.

Another method is, if you want to pray for rain, take one hundred and eight apricots and chant the mantra three sevens (twenty-one) times over them all, and put them in water that has dragons in it, and it will surely rain. If you want to stop the rain, take seeds of Firmiana platanifolia (Chinese parasol tree) and burn them in the fire, and the rain will stop.

Another method is, if a practitioner wants to beg for food, first chant mantras over the bowl one hundred and eight times. Wherever they go, they will naturally obtain all kinds of food and drink. Any leftover food will automatically disappear at that time. If they need food and drink, sincerely recite the mantra once towards the bowl, and the bowl will return to its original state.

Another method is, if you want to see the Functional Deva (a deity with supernatural powers), do not eat for one day and one night. Burn benzoin resin in front of the Buddha, chant mantras over white flowers one hundred and eight times, and scatter them in front of the deity. That Functional Deva will then appear in person and fulfill all your wishes as you desire. The wealth and treasures you seek will be obtained as you wish.

If you want to ward off all ghosts and spirits, chant mantras over white mustard seeds and ghee, chanting the mantra once for each seed, and throw them into the fire to burn.

若有官人。於三寶中起不善心者。惱亂佛弟子者。欲令起慈心。須作降伏。咒手三十一遍。遙打之其人即著疾。欲好者慈心誦一遍即差。

又法咒土二十一遍。散自身上。一切人見無不敬仰。欲令自身有威光者。咒墨涂額上。一切人見者無不愛仰。咒灰二十一遍。涂其身大眾中一切人見皆福德相。眾人供養。欲得遠涉道路不被惡人惡狩傷害。行加奔馬。咒左手大母指作印。而去欲得于鏡看事。咒童子童女問吉兇。其人即自下語。令道所病鬼姓名。即知是何等之病。

若被蠱毒食者。咒所食物二十一遍。其所為毒即吐出。

若患鬼病咒五色線。一遍一結一百八遍了。系頭上或頂上臂上。一切病患除差。

若患心病。咒石榴花汁飲之即愈。

若欲攝狐魅病。咒五色線。令童子合成索。一咒一結一百八遍。系項下。復咒楊枝打病者即立愈。

若患骨節楚病。咒宥刀禁其病即愈。

若欲護身。咒白芥子二十一遍。若灰若水亦然。散四方為界。

若頭病或身病咒蘇烏麻油二十一遍。摩涂其身即愈。

若被蛇咬。咒畢缽二十一遍。涂之當下即愈。

若婦人乳腫。咒油麻嚼塗上即差。

若帶下病者。咒丁香水服之即愈。

若人卒被鬼著狂言荒語。咒水令服之。

若患心病。咒黃土涂之。

若患一切鬼魅者。咒石榴枝一百八遍。用打病者即愈。

若欲得成就三事者。當於像前作壇。壇內散種種名花。設種種飲食訖。取赤銅鈝一枚。雄黃三兩細搗和蜜水為丸置像前。取荷葉覆上。以手掩之咒不息。當有相現。若煙出時取涂身上。即成安怛陀那。若火出時。手取火焰用涂面上。一切眾生見此人者皆大歡喜敬仰有大威光。所出言教人皆信受恭敬隨順。若有暖氣其人即取涂身即得無盡。

又法于舍利塔前咒牛黃。依前藥法皆得涂身一切福德盡集其身。所在眾生見如羅阇無異。

又法若知山間有孔似阿修羅窟者。當咒白芥子和自身血。一咒一遍打山間孔。盡一千八遍。其山窟自開。其阿修羅女身如火然。持諸

【English Translation】 English version Chant 'Da Huang' (Rhubarb) twenty-one times. Apply it to the forehead, and it will heal immediately. If suffering from epidemic diseases (referring to prevalent illnesses). Chant powdered 'Qing Mu Xiang' (Radix Aristolochiae) twenty-one times. Take it with water, and it will heal immediately. For those suffering from malignant sores, scabies, or ringworm. Take powdered 'Li Lu' (Veratrum nigrum) mixed with oil and apply it to the affected area, it will immediately eliminate and heal. If suffering from malaria. Chant a willow branch twenty-one times and use it to strike the patient, it will immediately eliminate and heal. If stung by a scorpion. Chant dried jerky and burn it in the fire. Apply the heat to the stung area, and it will immediately eliminate and heal. If bitten by a snake. Chant 'Bi Bo' (Piper longum) twenty-one times. Apply it to the wound, and it will heal immediately. If a woman has breast swelling. Chant sesame seeds, chew them, and apply them to the affected area, it will heal. Cover it with your hand and chant without stopping. When a sign appears. If smoke appears, take it and apply it to your body. You will immediately achieve 'Antardhana' (invisibility). If fire appears. Take the flame with your hand and apply it to your face. All beings who see this person will be very happy, respectful, and have great power and light. 香花迎咒師來。行者入此窟內。壽命一大劫身力還如阿修羅。亦如金剛無能損者。若欲出時亦得一切阿修羅女隨從。若不還時亦到火終無所害。

又法將此像向舍利塔前。香塗地香花散於壇內。上妙供養了。取梨木作合子。取安膳那石為末。用秦膠水為丸。盛于合子中置壇中。行者著新凈衣。在於像前一日不食。誦此咒一千八遍了。亦無勞三相現。咒一千八遍訖涂眼竟。即涂腳掌心中胸前兩膊上頂竟。至心合掌思身如虛空。無有身相作自想時。行者隱形日行千里。一切事業並皆悉見。

又法欲得伏外道入火中。取自身血魚血。瞋心誦此咒二十一遍。投火中即入火中。得一頃食間不燒其身。

又法若欲降伏外道。手中結印。瞋心誦咒一百八遍。外道所作法悉破壞並不成就。

又法若欲降伏諸國兵賊眾者。當畫一像身卦紫磨真金甲。于凈室中燒眾名香乳頭薰陸香。諸色香花飲食供養。真心誦唸天王真言十萬遍。天王領天兵來助。他國兵敵自退散。若能晝夜誦唸不絕。天王使太子獨健。領天兵千人衛護不離其側。所求如意應念隨心。皆得成就。

又法若欲降前敵眾者。于凈室持齋畫一天王形像。卦紫磨真金甲。於二丈竿懸。軍前五十步指其敵。其敵不能相患。

又有一種方法,如果想要降伏眼前的敵軍,在乾淨的房間里持齋,畫一尊天王形像,身穿紫磨真金甲。懸掛在距離軍隊前沿五十步遠的二丈長的竿子上,指向敵人,敵人就不能互相侵擾。

【English Translation】 English version: Offer fragrant flowers to welcome the mantra master. The practitioner enters this cave. Their lifespan will extend to a great kalpa (kalpa, a unit of time, an extremely long period), and their physical strength will be restored to that of an Asura (Asura, a type of divine being), as strong as Vajra (Vajra, a hard weapon or substance), and nothing can harm them. If they wish to leave, they will be followed by all the Asura women. If they do not leave, they will not be harmed even at the end of the fire kalpa.

Another method: place this image facing the front of a Stupa (Stupa, a building for storing relics). Smear the ground with incense, scatter fragrant flowers within the altar, and make supreme offerings. Make a box of pear wood, take Anjana stone (Anjana, a mineral) and grind it into powder, mix it with Qin glue water to make pills, put them in the box, and place it in the altar. The practitioner wears new and clean clothes, abstains from food for one day in front of the image, and recites this mantra one thousand and eight times. Even without the appearance of the three auspicious signs, after reciting the mantra one thousand and eight times, apply it to the eyes, then apply it to the palms of the feet, the chest, both arms, and the top of the head. Sincerely join the palms and contemplate the body as empty space, without a physical form. When contemplating in this way, the practitioner can become invisible, travel a thousand miles a day, and see all affairs.

Another method: if you want to subdue heretics and enter the fire, take your own blood and fish blood, and recite this mantra twenty-one times with anger, and throw it into the fire, then you can enter the fire. You will have the time it takes to eat a meal (one qing, a Chinese unit of land area), and your body will not be burned.

Another method: if you want to subdue heretics, form a mudra with your hands, and recite the mantra one hundred and eight times with anger, all the spells performed by the heretics will be destroyed and will not succeed.

Another method: if you want to subdue the troops and bandits of various countries, you should paint an image of a Heavenly King, wearing armor of pure purple-gold. Burn various famous incenses in a clean room, especially Frankincense (Frankincense, a resin incense), and offer various colored fragrant flowers and food. Sincerely recite the Heavenly King's mantra one hundred thousand times, and the Heavenly King will lead heavenly soldiers to help, and the enemy troops of other countries will naturally retreat. If you can recite day and night without interruption, the Heavenly King will send Prince Dujian (likely a name of a prince), leading a thousand heavenly soldiers to protect the practitioner, never leaving their side. Whatever you seek will be fulfilled as desired, and everything will be accomplished.

Another method: if you want to subdue the enemy troops in front of you, observe a fast in a clean room and paint an image of a Heavenly King, wearing armor of pure purple-gold. Hang it on a two-zhang (zhang, a Chinese unit of length) pole fifty steps in front of the army, pointing at the enemy, and the enemy will not be able to harm each other.

The two thumbs point straight outwards. The backs of the palms are joined together to form the mudra. As mentioned before, all these dharmas can be accomplished using this mudra. Now I will speak of the fundamental mudra, with the right hand pressing on the left hand, crossed inwards. Raise the ring finger and index finger to join them together. Bend the two index fingers like hooks. If welcoming and inviting deities, beckon towards oneself. If sending them away, push outwards. When reciting the invocation, form the mudra in front of the heart and recite it seven times. Scatter the mudra on the top of the head. Then take the rosary and concentrate on reciting. With both hands, form a hollow-hearted joined palm, open the two index fingers, two middle fingers, and two ring fingers, not bent, like the shape of a lotus flower.
