【English Translation】 English version: Smear with fragrant mud (on the base). Measure the outer edges with two cubits, and the inner edges with one cubit. The statue faces north, while the person sits facing south. Place clear water, incense, flowers, and fruits in the inner courtyard, and milk porridge, cakes, and other foods in the outer courtyard.
Incense Offering Mantra:
Mani alara ta bo li bu la jia ye suo po he (摩拏阿羅他缽哩布啰迦野莎婆訶)
Benzoin (a type of incense). Sandalwood (a type of incense). Camphor (a type of incense). Eaglewood (a type of incense). Storax (a type of incense). Grind the right-hand incense and mix it with honey. Recite this mantra one hundred and eight times in front of the statue. Hold the incense in your right hand and sincerely pray to the statue. After completing the recitation, make the offering. If there is no incense, you can also recite this mantra at the appropriate time to make the offering (the above is the complete ritual).
The Great Northern King Vaishravana (a deity who guards the north). In the first year of the Tianbao era of the Tang Dynasty, the year Renwu, the countries of Da Shi, Kang, and five other countries besieged the city of Anxi. On the eleventh day of the second month of that year, Anxi submitted a memorial requesting the court to send troops to rescue them. The Sage (referring to Emperor Xuanzong of Tang) told the Zen Master Yi Xing (a famous monk of the Tang Dynasty): 'Venerable Monk, Anxi is besieged by the countries of Da Shi, Kang, and others, and there is a memorial requesting the dispatch of troops to rescue them. Anxi is twelve thousand miles away from the capital, and it takes eight months for the army to reach Anxi, which would be too late.' Yi Xing said: 'Why doesn't Your Majesty request the divine soldiers of the Northern King Vaishravana to come to support us?' The Sage said: 'How can I request them?' Yi Xing said: 'Summon the foreign monk Da Guangzhi (a monk proficient in esoteric Buddhism) and he will be able to request them.' So the emperor ordered Da Guangzhi to be summoned to the palace. Da Guangzhi arrived at the palace and said: 'The Sage summoned this monk, is it not because of the siege of Anxi city by the five countries' bandits?' The Sage said yes. Da Guangzhi said: 'Your Majesty, holding the incense burner, enter the altar, and this monk will pray for the divine soldiers of the Northern King to rescue you.' He then entered the altar to pray. Before the mantra had been recited fourteen times, the Sage suddenly saw two or three hundred divine beings, wearing armor, standing in front of the altar. The Sage asked the monk: 'Who are these people?' Da Guangzhi said: 'This is the second son of the Northern King Vaishravana, Dujian (son of Vaishravana), leading the heavenly soldiers to rescue Anxi, so he has come to bid farewell first.' The Sage prepared a vegetarian meal to offer them, and then let them depart. In the fourth month of that year, the memorial from Anxi arrived, saying: 'Since the afternoon of the eleventh day of the second month, thirty miles northeast of the city, there has been a dense fog, and in the fog there are people, one zhang (approximately 10 feet) tall, about three to five hundred people, all...'

【English Translation】 English version: Adorned in golden armor. After the hour of You (5-7 PM), drums and horns sounded loudly, the sound shaking three hundred li (approximately 150 kilometers), the earth trembled, and mountains collapsed, ceasing for three days. The five kingdoms were greatly frightened and all retreated. When gathering the troops, it was discovered that the bowstrings and weapons of each camp had been gnawed through by golden rats, rendering them completely unusable. Some elderly and weak individuals were unable to retreat, and the soldiers under my command intended to kill them. At this moment, a voice came from the sky saying, 'Release them, do not kill.' Looking back in the direction of the sound, a great light was seen above the north gate tower of the city, and Vaiśravaṇa (a Buddhist guardian deity, one of the Four Heavenly Kings, guardian of the north, and god of wealth) manifested himself on the tower. Regarding the divine appearance of the Heavenly King, I respectfully submit it along with this memorial. In the fourteenth year of Tianbao during the Zhonghua era, scriptures and images were copied at the residence of the inner-court monk Dabeichu. In the fifth year of Dali, the Dharma Master Liangben, an inner-court monk, was seen in Jizhou and moved to Kaiyuan Temple in Jizhou. Upon examining the scriptures and images, they were found to be identical to the original ones kept at Dabeichu. In the past, to defend and aid the borders of the country, by Buddhist decree, the third son Nata (a Buddhist protector deity) was ordered to carry a stupa and follow the Heavenly King. The Tripitaka Master Daguangzhi said that the first day of each month is the day when the Heavenly King gathers with various devas and spirits; the eleventh day is the day when the second Heavenly King Dujian (son of Vaiśravaṇa) bids farewell to his father and patrols the borders; the fifteenth day is the day when he gathers with the Four Heavenly Kings; the twenty-first day is the day when Nata hands over the stupa to his father. On that day, milk porridge must be offered, and if there is no milk porridge, then ghee-honey porridge should be offered to the Heavenly King. There was a divine and miraculous event, and by imperial decree, it was announced to the ten circuits, ordering the military leaders in each region to set up images of the Heavenly King and offer prayers and worship. On the twenty-third day of the fourth month of the first year of Tianbao, the inner attendant supervisor Gao Huiming said that the second son of the Heavenly King, Dujian, often leads heavenly soldiers to protect the borders of the country. The third son of the Heavenly King, Prince Nata, carries a stupa and always follows the Heavenly King. The auspicious goddess Lakshmi (Hindu and Buddhist goddess of wealth, fortune, and prosperity), also known as the Goddess of Merit, has her own mantra. The sage Poyu, Daguangzhi said, is an incarnation of Avalokiteśvara (a Buddhist bodhisattva known for compassion). If you wish to invoke the Heavenly King, form the fundamental mudra and recite the invocation mantra seven times, then scatter the mudra above your head. I will now speak of the fundamental mudra. With both hands, the right hand presses inside the left, crossing each other. Erect the two ring fingers, with the tips joined together. Bend the two index fingers like hooks. If welcoming and inviting, then scatter above the head. Then take the prayer beads and concentrate on reciting. Next, form the mudra of the body of the Auspicious Heavenly Woman. With both hands, palms together with empty space inside. Open the two index fingers, two middle fingers, and two ring fingers, bending them into the shape of a lotus flower. The two thumbs and two little fingers are erected and joined together. When reciting, form the mudra in front of the heart, reciting the mantra seven times, then scatter above the head (another version).
Another method is to take the fifteenth day of the white month (first half of the lunar month) and the black month (second half of the lunar month). Sit facing north in a clean room or on open ground. Make offerings of milk porridge to the image, and burn frankincense. Recite this dharani for three nights, reciting it one thousand and eight hundred times, and so on.
Another method is, if you seek an official position, in front of the image, recite the name of the noble person once every time, for one day and one night. After reciting it one thousand and eighty times, the official position you seek will be obtained.
If there are people in a place of fighting and competition who desire to be strong, use white wool to make a rope. Tie a knot with each recitation of the mantra, for a total of one thousand and eighty knots, and tie it on the left arm. Then you will be victorious.
Another method is to use ox gallstone, place it in a copper vessel, and recite one hundred and eight times in front of the image. Then take it and apply it to the body, and you will be loved and respected by everyone.
Another method is, if you wish to be remembered by the king, recite one thousand and eighty times every night, and the king will remember you, and all your needs will be obtained.

【English Translation】 English version: Drinking the juice will cure the illness. Another method: If suffering from the illness of fox spirits or demons, striking the patient with a willow branch that has been enchanted with a mantra will cure the illness. Another method: If suffering from all kinds of wind-related illnesses, chanting a mantra over clarified butter (ghee) twenty-one times and then consuming it will cure the illness. Another method: If suffering from malaria, chanting a mantra over willow branches twenty-one times and then using them to strike the patient will cure the illness. Another method: If suffering from the illness of raving or speaking in tongues, chanting a mantra over water and having the patient drink it will cure the illness. Another method: If suffering from heart pain, applying yellow earth that has been enchanted with a mantra to the affected area. If suffering from all kinds of demonic illnesses, striking the patient with a pomegranate wood staff that has been enchanted with a mantra one hundred and eight times will cure the illness. Method for forming the hand seal (mudra): Interlock the two little fingers, extend the two ring fingers straight outwards, cross the two middle fingers and two index fingers in opposite directions, extend the two thumbs straight outwards, with the palms facing each other (the above-mentioned two methods both use this hand seal). After reciting this mantra a sufficient number of times, then recite the messenger mantra seven times, and then recite the mantras of the Eight Devas three times each. 【English Translation】 English version Subduing the Envoy of Dhata (陀彌)
Recite this mantra while using this mudra. Make fists with both hands and erect the two index fingers straight up. Then open the two thumbs. Next, cross the right index finger over the back of the left index finger and place it into the palm. Then place the left index finger into the right palm. Then, with the two thumbs, the left hand grasps the right index finger, with the two tips protruding outwards.
The Eight Great Heavenly Kings: Manibhadra (摩尼跋陀羅, Jewel Virtue), Purnabhadra (布嚕娜跋陀羅, Full Virtue), Pancika (半隻迦, General Pancika), Satagiri (娑多祁里, Seven Peaks Mountain God), Himavanta (醯摩嚩多, Snow Mountain God), Visakha (毗灑迦, Visakha), Atavaka (阿陀嚩迦, Atavaka), Pancala (半灑攞, Pancala).

The 'Hakkaro' records: 'Vaishravana Deva (毗沙門天王) Ritual Manual,' one volume, translated by the monk 'Rui'. This manual is based on the original copy of 'Jichakuin Jishun Sojo (智積院慈順僧正)'. It was collated by 'Daisen (大宣)' and others from 'Aizenin (愛染院)' of this mountain. I also collated and printed it.
Written in the autumn of the first year of the Genwa era (辛酉), August, by the monk Kaido (快道) of Mt. Toyama (豐山).
