如是我聞。一時佛在舍衛國。祇樹給孤獨園。與諸比丘。圍繞說法。于晨朝時。尊者阿難。著衣持缽。入城乞食。分衛已訖。還祇洹林。于其路次。有一大池。聚落人眾。游集其上。池側有女栴陀羅種。執持瓶器。始來取水。長老阿難。往到其所語言。姊妹今我渴乏。甚欲須飲。見惠少水真。是時施女言。大德我無所吝。但吾身是栴陀羅女。若相施者。恐非所宜。阿難言。姊我名沙門。其心平等豪貴下劣。觀無異相。但時見施。不宜久留。時彼女人。即以凈水。授與阿難。阿難飲訖。還其所止。其去已后。此女便取阿難容貌音聲語言威儀等相。深生染著。欲心猛盛。作是念言。若使我得向去比丘以為夫者。不亦善乎。復作是念。我母善咒。或能令彼來為吾夫。我當向母具宣斯事。時此女人。持水還家。詣其母所。而作是言。阿難比丘。是佛弟子。我甚愛樂。欲得為夫。如母力者。能辦斯事。唯愿哀愍。必滿我願。母語女言。有二種人。雖加咒術。無如之何。何者為二。一者斷欲。二是死人。自余之者。吾能調伏。沙門瞿曇。威德高遠。波斯匿王。
極生信敬。若脫知我將阿難來。栴陀羅輩。皆被殘滅。且復瞿曇煩惱已盡。及其眷屬。咸離欲穢。我昔曾聞。斷生死者。宜加恭敬。如何于彼反起惡業。女聞是已。悲泣而言。若母不得阿難來者。我必定當棄捨身命。假令瞿曇而違我願。亦復不能久留於世。設得之者。眾愿滿足。母聞斯言。慘然不悅。而告之曰。莫便捨命。我必能令阿難至此。爾時女母。于自舍內。牛糞塗地布以白茅。於此場中。燃大猛火。百有八枚妙遏迦花。誦咒一週。輒以一莖投之火中。其咒言曰。
阿磨利 毗磨利 鳩鳩彌 三磨禰 移 那婆頭賜 頻頭彌車養
提菩跋利沙提 毗地逾多提揭阇提 毗三磨耶 磨羅阇 三磨提 跋陀夷阇
若天。若魔。若乾闥婆。火神。地神。聞我是咒。及吾祠祀。宜應急令阿難至此。作是語已。尊者阿難。心即迷亂。不自覺知。便行往詣栴陀羅舍。爾時女母。遙見阿難安詳而來。告其女曰。阿難比丘。已來近此。汝今應當敷置茵褥。燒香散花。極令嚴凈。女聞母言。歡喜踴悅。莊飾堂閣。安置寶座。凈治灑掃。散眾名花。爾時阿難。既到其舍。悲咽哽塞。泣淚而言。我何薄祐。遇斯苦難。大悲世尊。寧不垂愍加威護念令無嬈害。爾時如來以凈天眼。觀見阿難為彼女人之所惑亂。為擁護故

【English Translation】 English version: Profound faith and reverence arose. If they knew that I was going to bring Ananda (one of the Buddha's ten principal disciples, known for his excellent memory), those Chandalas (outcastes in the Indian caste system) would all be destroyed. Moreover, Gautama (the Buddha's family name) has exhausted his afflictions, and his retinue has also departed from the defilements of desire. I once heard that one should be respectful to those who have cut off the cycle of birth and death. How can one instead generate evil karma towards them?' Hearing these words, the daughter wept sadly and said, 'If my mother cannot bring Ananda here, I will surely abandon my life. Even if Gautama goes against my wishes, he will not be able to remain in the world for long. If I can obtain Ananda, all my wishes will be fulfilled.' Hearing these words, the mother's face turned grim and displeased, and she warned her, 'Do not lightly abandon your life. I will surely be able to bring Ananda here.' At that time, the mother plastered the ground with cow dung inside her house and spread white茅茅 grass. In this area, she lit a great fierce fire, using one hundred and eight Myrica flowers, each time reciting the mantra once, she would throw one flower into the fire. Her mantra was: 'Amali, Bhimari, Kukumi, Samane, Yi, Navatushi, Bindumi Cheyang, Tibo Bhalishati, Bhidiyuduo Ti Jieti, Bisamaya, Maluosha, Samati, Batuoyisha, Whether it be Devas (gods), Maras (demons), Gandharvas (celestial musicians), Agni (god of fire), or Prithvi (goddess of earth), upon hearing my mantra and my offerings, they should immediately cause Ananda to come here.' After saying these words, the Venerable Ananda's mind was immediately confused, and without realizing it, he went to the Chandala's residence. At that time, the mother saw Ananda approaching peacefully from afar and told her daughter, 'The Bhikshu Ananda is already near here. You should now spread cushions, burn incense, and scatter flowers, making it as solemn and clean as possible.' Hearing her mother's words, the daughter rejoiced and leaped with joy, decorating the hall, placing a precious seat, cleaning and sprinkling water, and scattering various famous flowers. At that time, Ananda arrived at her residence, choked with sorrow, and wept, saying, 'How meager is my merit that I encounter such suffering. Great Compassionate World Honored One (Tathagata, title of the Buddha), do you not have pity on me, adding your majestic protection and mindfulness so that I am free from harm?' At that time, the Tathagata, with his pure heavenly eye, saw that Ananda was being deluded by that woman, and for the sake of protecting him.
。即說咒曰。
悉挮帝 阿朱帝 阿尼帝
於是世尊。說此咒已。而作是言。吾以斯咒。安隱一切怖畏眾生。亦欲利安諸苦惱者。若有眾生無歸依處。我當爲作真實歸依。爾時世尊。復說偈曰。
戒池清涼凈無垢 能浴眾生煩惱熱 若有智者入此池 無明闇障永滅盡 是故三世諸賢聖 咸皆頂戴共稱歎 若我真實浴此流 當令侍者速還返
爾時阿難。以佛神力。及善根力。栴陀羅咒。無所能為。即出其舍。還祇洹林。時彼女人。見阿難歸。白其母言。比丘去矣。母告之曰。沙門瞿曇。必以威力。而護念之。是故能令吾咒斷壞。女白母言。沙門瞿曇。其神德力。能勝母耶。母語女言。沙門瞿曇。其德淵廣。非是吾力所可為比。假令一切世間眾生。所有咒術。彼若發念。皆悉斷滅。永無遺余。其有所作。無能障礙。以是因緣。當知彼力為無有上。爾時阿難。往詣佛所。頭面禮足。在一面立。
佛告阿難。有六句咒。其力殊勝。悉能擁護一切眾生。能滅邪道。斷諸災患。汝今宜可受持讀誦用自利益。亦安樂人。若比丘比丘尼。優婆塞優婆夷。欲利安己饒益眾生。皆當受持六句神咒。阿難。此咒皆為過去六佛所共宣說。今我釋迦牟尼三藐三佛陀。亦說是咒。大梵天王。釋提桓因。

『悉挮帝,阿朱帝,阿尼帝』

【English Translation】 Then He spoke the mantra, saying:
'Siddhi Te, A Zhu Di, A Ni Di'
Thereupon, the World-Honored One, having spoken this mantra, said thus: 'With this mantra, I bring peace and security to all sentient beings in fear, and also desire to benefit and pacify those who are suffering. If there are sentient beings who have no refuge, I shall be their true refuge.' At that time, the World-Honored One, again spoke in verse:
'The pool of precepts is clear, cool, pure, and without defilement, able to bathe sentient beings of their afflictions and heat. If a wise person enters this pool, the darkness and obstacles of ignorance will be forever extinguished. Therefore, the virtuous and holy ones of the three times all reverently uphold and jointly praise it. If I truly bathe in this stream, may the attendant Ananda quickly return.'
At that time, Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha), by the Buddha's divine power and the power of his own good roots, was unaffected by the Chandala's (an untouchable caste in ancient India) mantra. He then left the woman's house and returned to Jetavana (a monastery where the Buddha often stayed). At that time, the woman, seeing Ananda return, said to her mother, 'The Bhikshu has left.' The mother told her, 'The Shramana Gautama (an honorific title for Shakyamuni Buddha) must be protecting and mindful of him with his power. That is why he is able to cause my mantra to break and fail.' The woman said to her mother, 'Shramana Gautama, is his divine power greater than yours, Mother?' Her mother said to her daughter, 'Shramana Gautama, his virtue is profound and vast, not comparable to my power. Even if all the mantras of all sentient beings in the world were combined, if he were to generate a single thought, they would all be extinguished, leaving no remainder. Whatever he intends to do, no power can obstruct it. For this reason, you should know that his power is unsurpassed.' At that time, Ananda went to the Buddha's abode, prostrated himself at the Buddha's feet, and stood to one side.
The Buddha told Ananda, 'There is a six-sentence mantra, whose power is exceedingly supreme, capable of protecting all sentient beings, capable of extinguishing evil paths, and cutting off all calamities and misfortunes. You should now receive, uphold, and recite this mantra, to benefit yourself and bring peace to others. If Bhikshus, Bhikshunis, Upasakas (male lay devotees), and Upasikas (female lay devotees) wish to benefit themselves and benefit sentient beings, they should all receive and uphold this six-sentence divine mantra. Ananda, this mantra was jointly proclaimed by the six Buddhas of the past. Now I, Shakyamuni (Sakyamuni) Samyak-sambuddha (Perfectly Enlightened Buddha), also speak this mantra. Mahabrahma (Great Brahma King), Sakra devanam Indra (Indra, Lord of the Devas).'
四天王等。皆悉恭敬受持讀誦。是故汝今宜加修習讚歎供養。無令忘失。即說咒曰。
耶頭多 安茶利 槃茶利 抧由利 他彌曷賜帝 薩羅結利毗槃頭摩帝大羅毗沙 脂利 彌利 婆膩鄰陀 耶陀三跋兜 羅布羅波底 迦談必羅耶
佛告阿難。若有眾生。受持如是六句神咒。臨應刑戮。以咒力故。輕被鞭撻。而得免脫。若當鞭撻。此咒因緣。呵責得免。若應呵責。由此神咒威德力故。永無呵毀。坦然安樂阿難我不見沙門婆羅門。若天魔梵人。及非人。受持此咒。而被嬈害。唯除定業。無如之何。時栴陀羅女。于夜過已。沐浴其身著新凈衣首戴花鬘。涂香嚴飾。金銀環珮。瓔珞其體。徐步安詳。向舍衛國。到城門已。住待阿難。阿難晨朝。入城乞食。女見其來。深生歡喜。隨之而行。終不捨離。進止出入。恒隨逐之。尊者阿難。見如是事。極懷慚愧。憂慘不悅。還出城外。至祇洹林。頂禮佛足。卻坐一面。白佛言。世尊。栴陀羅女極嬈逼我。行住進止而不捨離。唯愿世尊。慈加擁護。
佛告阿難。汝莫愁惱。吾當令爾得免斯難。爾時世尊。告女人曰。汝用阿難以為夫耶。女言。瞿曇實如聖教。佛言。善女婚姻之法。須白父母汝今為問所尊未耶答曰瞿曇。父母聽我。故來至此。佛言。若汝父母已相聽

【English Translation】 English version: The Four Heavenly Kings and others, all respectfully received, upheld, recited this mantra. Therefore, you should now diligently cultivate, praise, and make offerings to it, and not let it be forgotten. Then the Buddha spoke the mantra: Yatuta Andhali Bhandhali Kilyuli Tamihechidi Salojili Vipantumati Talavisha Chidi Mili Vanilinta Yatutasampatu Lapulapati Katampiliye The Buddha told Ananda (one of the ten principal disciples of the Buddha): 'If there are sentient beings who uphold such a six-sentence divine mantra, even if they are facing punishment, they can, through the power of the mantra, have it reduced to whipping and thus be freed. If they are to be whipped, they can, through the cause of this mantra, be spared from rebuke. If they are to be rebuked, they can, through the majestic power of this divine mantra, never be criticized or slandered, and be at peace and happiness. Ananda, I have not seen any Sramana (Buddhist renunciate), Brahman (ancient Indian priest), or Deva, Mara, Brahma, or non-human being who upholds this mantra and is harmed, except for fixed karma, which is beyond help.' At that time, the Chandala (an untouchable in ancient Indian society) woman, after the night had passed, bathed her body, put on new and clean clothes, wore a garland of flowers on her head, applied fragrant perfumes for adornment, wore gold and silver rings and pendants, and adorned her body with necklaces, slowly and peacefully walked towards the city of Sravasti (the capital of an ancient Indian kingdom). Upon reaching the city gate, she stopped and waited for Ananda. Ananda entered the city in the morning to beg for food. The woman saw him coming, was very happy, and followed him, never willing to leave, following him in all his movements. The Venerable Ananda, seeing such a thing, felt extremely ashamed, worried, and displeased, and returned outside the city to the Jetavana (a Buddhist monastery), prostrated at the Buddha's feet, and sat to one side, saying to the Buddha: 'World Honored One, the Chandala woman is extremely harassing and pressing me, not willing to leave me in my walking, dwelling, advancing, and retreating. May the World Honored One, with compassion, add protection and support.' The Buddha told Ananda: 'Do not be distressed or troubled, I shall cause you to be freed from this difficulty.' At that time, the World Honored One told the woman: 'Do you want Ananda to be your husband?' The woman said: 'Gautama (the family name of Sakyamuni Buddha), it is indeed as your holy teaching says.' The Buddha said: 'Good woman, the law of marriage requires informing your parents. Have you now asked your respected parents?' The woman replied: 'Gautama, my parents listen to me, so I have come here.' The Buddha said: 'If your parents have already agreed.'
許。可使自來躬見付授。女聞斯言。禮佛而退向父母所。脩敬已畢。卻住一面。白父母言。我欲阿難以用為夫。唯愿垂愍。與我俱往。親自付之。於是父母往詣佛所。頂禮佛足。在一面坐。女言瞿曇。吾親已至。爾時世尊。即問之曰。汝實以女與阿難耶。答言。世尊誠如聖教佛言。汝今便可還歸所止。時女父母。禮佛而退。於是如來告女人曰。若汝欲得阿難比丘以為夫者。宜應出家學其容飾。答曰。唯然敬承尊教佛言善來便成沙門。鬢髮自落。法衣在身。即為說法。示教利喜。所謂施論。戒論。生天之論。欲為不凈出要最善。又此欲者。眾苦積聚。其味至少。過患甚多。譬如飛蛾。為愚癡故。投身猛焰。而自燒害。凡夫顛倒。妄生染著。為渴愛所逼如逐焰之蛾。是故智者舍而遠之。未曾暫起愛樂之想。時比丘尼。聞說是已。心喜悅豫。意轉調伏。爾時世尊。知比丘尼心意柔軟。離諸惱障。即為廣說四真諦法。所謂是苦。是苦習。是苦滅。是苦滅道。時比丘尼。豁然意解悟四聖諦譬如新凈白㲲易受染色。即于座上。得羅漢道。更不退轉。不隨他教。頂禮佛足。白佛言。世尊。我先愚癡。欲酒所醉。擾亂賢聖。造不善業。唯愿世尊。聽我懺悔。佛言。我已受汝懺悔。汝今當知。佛世難遇。人身難得。解脫生死得阿羅漢。亦
為甚難。如斯難事。汝已得之。于佛法中。獲真實果。所謂生死已盡。梵行已立。所作已辦。不受後有。是故汝今宜應精進。慎莫放逸。
摩登伽經明往緣品第二
爾時城中。諸婆羅門長者居士。聞佛度于栴陀羅女。出家為道。咸生嫌忿。而作是言。此下賤種。云何當與諸四部眾。同修梵行。云何當入諸豪貴家。受于供養。如是展轉。共議斯事。乃至聞于波斯匿王。王聞是已。極大驚愕。即便嚴駕。眷屬圍繞。前後導從詣祇洹林。下車去蓋。徐步而進。頂禮佛足。退坐一面。佛知眾會心之所念。欲決所疑。告諸比丘。汝等欲聞本性比丘尼往昔緣不。諸比丘言。唯然欲聞。汝今諦聽。當爲汝說。諸比丘乃往過去阿僧祇劫。于恒河側有園。名曰阿提目多。花果繁茂。池流具足。園中有王。名帝勝伽。是栴陀羅摩登伽種。與百千萬栴陀羅眾。共住此園。諸比丘彼帝勝伽。有大智慧。高才勇猛。自識宿命。世所為事。無不通達。我當略說其五功德。一者博練四圍陀典秘密之要。無不了達。二者善解詩書文頌字句長短。三者悉知諸論經紀度聲彼岸。四者能解世俗祠祀咒術醫藥。五善分別大丈夫相。如是智慧。不可窮盡。其王有子。名師子耳。顏容端正。戒行清潔。其心調柔。仁慈和順。眾德具瞻。見者歡喜。摩登伽

【English Translation】 English version: How difficult! Such a difficult thing you have achieved. In the Buddha-dharma, you have attained the true fruit, which is the exhaustion of birth and death, the establishment of pure conduct, the completion of what needed to be done, and no further existence. Therefore, you should now be diligent and not be lax.
The Second Chapter on Past Causes in the Matangi Sutra
At that time, the Brahmins, elders, and laypeople in the city, hearing that the Buddha had converted a Chandala (outcaste) woman and allowed her to renounce the world and practice the Way, all felt resentment and anger. They said, 'How can this lowly caste practice pure conduct together with the fourfold assembly (bhikshus, bhikshunis, upasakas, upasikas)? How can they enter the homes of the wealthy and noble and receive offerings?' They discussed this matter among themselves until it reached King Prasenajit. The king, upon hearing this, was greatly astonished. He immediately prepared his carriage, surrounded by his retinue, and proceeded to the Jeta Grove. He alighted from the carriage, removed the canopy, and walked slowly forward. He prostrated himself at the Buddha's feet and sat to one side. The Buddha, knowing what was in the minds of the assembly and wishing to resolve their doubts, said to the monks, 'Do you wish to hear about the past causes of Bhikshuni Prakriti (nature, essence)?' The monks said, 'Yes, we wish to hear.' 'Listen attentively now, and I will tell you.' Monks, in the past, countless asamkhya (incalculable) kalpas (eons) ago, there was a garden on the bank of the Ganges River called Atimukta (greatly liberated). It was lush with flowers and fruits, and had abundant ponds and streams. In the garden lived a king named Dvisamghata (double union), who was of the Chandala Matanga (name of a low caste) lineage. He lived in this garden with hundreds of thousands of Chandala people. Monks, that Dvisamghata had great wisdom, high talent, and courage. He knew his past lives and was versed in all worldly affairs. I will briefly describe his five merits. First, he was well-versed in the secret essentials of the four Vedas (ancient Hindu scriptures), and there was nothing he did not understand. Second, he was skilled in understanding poetry, books, essays, hymns, and the length and brevity of words and sentences. Third, he knew all the treatises, economics, and the other shore of measuring sounds. Fourth, he could understand worldly sacrifices, mantras, medicine. Fifth, he was good at distinguishing the characteristics of a great man. Such wisdom was inexhaustible. The king had a son named Simhakarna (lion ear). His appearance was dignified, his conduct was pure, his heart was gentle, kind, and harmonious. He possessed all virtues, and those who saw him rejoiced. Matangi (name of a low caste).

【English Translation】 English version: King Disamgakara (King Disamgakara) extensively taught his son Simhakarna (prince's name) scriptures and mantras, imparting all that he himself knew. Therefore, Simhakarna's knowledge and understanding were profound, just like his father's, with no difference. King Disamgakara, while sleeping at night, suddenly had this thought: 'My son's appearance is most outstanding, possessing all virtues, and he is revered and admired by people. He is gradually growing up and should be betrothed to a wife. I must choose a virtuous and beautiful match, whose talent and virtue surpass ordinary people, like my son, and then I should seek her for him.' At that very moment, there was a Brahmin named Lotus Essence (Brahmin's name), whose lineage was noble and excellent, whose parents were of pure blood, and whose lineage had been pure and unmixed for seven generations. He was well-versed in the four Vedas (ancient Indian scriptures), and his talents were unmatched by few. At that time, there was a king named Great Giver (king's name), who ruled the entire world with power and freedom. He granted Lotus Essence a settlement to govern and manage. The land there was fertile, and the people were prosperous. Lotus Essence's daughter was named Innate Nature (woman's name), and her virtue and appearance were exceptionally outstanding, comparable to Simhakarna. King Disamgakara thought: 'Only Lotus Essence's daughter is so beautiful. I should propose marriage to her for my son.' After thinking this, the next morning, he rode in a great treasure chariot, drawn by four white horses, surrounded by Chandalas (attendants) in front and behind, and set out from the capital city, heading north towards the country where Lotus Essence resided. At that time, south of the place where Lotus Essence lived, there was a garden named Delight (garden's name), where flowers and fruits flourished, trees thrived, springs flowed, and bathing pools were filled with clear water. Various kinds of birds played on it, making harmonious sounds, which made those who heard them feel joyful. This garden was vast and very lovely, like the Nandana Garden (heavenly garden) of the gods. King Matamgakara (another name for King Disamgakara) went to that garden to wait for Lotus Essence. At that time, the Brahmin also, in the morning, drove four white horses, along with five hundred Brahmins, guiding and surrounding him, to the garden to play and admire. Like Brahmā (the creator god), whose wisdom surpasses all, and is Worshipped by all the gods, like Indra (the king of the gods), to whom everything is respectful and obedient. He said to him, 'The Mātaṅga (a low caste) are despised by people, and are very lowly and ugly, like poison and fire. I am now of the Brāhmaṇa (priest caste) lineage, noble and honorable, and no one can surpass me. I am well-versed in the Vedas (Hindu scriptures) and have unparalleled wisdom. How dare you come to insult me? Like the moon in the sky and the light of a firefly, those with eyes know the difference. The Caṇḍāla caste compared to the Brāhmaṇa is also the same in terms of nobility and lowliness. Now you are foolish, not knowing the difference between noble and lowly, and you should not have any expectations, yet you have such wishful thinking. Now I see no difference between the Brāhmaṇas (the priestly class in Hinduism) and the Caṇḍālas (the lowest social class in India).' 'Why is that? Do you Brāhmaṇas not come from the sky, while the Caṇḍāla caste is born solely from the earth? Brāhmaṇas are born from the womb, and so are Caṇḍālas. Yet you claim to be superior; this is impossible.' When a Brāhmaṇa dies, people feel fear and disgust; when a Caṇḍāla dies, people do not want to see them either. If there is a difference between nobility and baseness, why is there no difference in birth and death?' 'You probably think in your hearts that Caṇḍālas commit evil deeds, are violent and cruel, deceive sentient beings, and have no compassion, and therefore are called base. Now I will speak of all the evil deeds and falsehoods of you Brāhmaṇas: stirring up disputes, disturbing the virtuous, creating monsters, practicing astrology and observing the moon, harmonizing military formations, and killing sentient beings. In short, all evil deeds are done by the Brāhmaṇas.' 'You Brāhmaṇas, who are fond of delicacies, say, 'If one chants mantras and kills a sheep during a sacrifice, the sheep will surely be reborn in heaven.' If chanting mantras can cause a sheep to be reborn in heaven, why do you not chant mantras to kill yourselves for sacrifice, seeking rebirth in heaven? Why do you not chant mantras to kill your parents, relatives, wives, and family members, slaughtering them all to cause them to be reborn in heaven? Not destroying yourselves, but only killing sheep, you should know that all this is because the Brāhmaṇas want to eat meat and falsely say these things. False and deceitful people, yet you say you are noble and superior; this is unreasonable.' 'In the Brāhmaṇa law, committing four kinds of offenses is called extremely evil, and one is not a Brāhmaṇa. What are the four? First, killing Brāhmaṇas; second, committing adultery with the wife of one's teacher; third, stealing gold; and fourth, drinking alcohol. Only these four evil deeds are called sins; other killings have no consequences. And in your law, one incurs the sin of killing because one has cut off the life of another. If one kills another person, it is also called cutting off life, so why is there no sin in killing them? Even drinking alcohol is the same.'

How can they kill, curse, be angry, and resentful? If the four castes (the social hierarchy in Hinduism, including Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras) are all born from Brahma, then they should be like brothers. How can they intermarry? Such impure rituals violate reason and are no different from those of animals. All beings receive the consequences of their good and bad deeds, such as being beautiful or ugly, poor or rich, having a long or short life, being foolish or wise. These things arise from karma. But your scriptures also say that those who cultivate good deeds can be born in heaven. If cultivating good deeds leads to being born in heaven, then all beings can do good deeds and should be born in heaven. Why are others so inferior? Great Brahmins, it is like a person who has four sons and gives them different names: one is called Ananda (bliss), one is called Dirghayu (long life), one is called Ashoka (without sorrow), and one is called Harsha (joy). Although they are born from the same father and share the same surname, their names are different: Ananda, Dirghayu, Ashoka, and Harsha. The four castes in the world are also like this. Although they are all bound by karma and afflictions, they have four different names: Brahmin, Kshatriya (the warrior class in Hinduism), Vaishya (the merchant class in Hinduism), and Shudra (the peasant and worker class in Hinduism). At that time, King Udayana (帝勝伽王), said to Prakriti (蓮華實), 'Virtuous one, listen well, I will cut off the net of your wrong views, open the path of truth, purify the path of Bodhi, and initiate the practices of humans and gods. In your Dharma, there are five sacrificial rites, saying that these sacrifices are the cause of Nirvana, and can lead to rebirth in the heavens. What are the five? First, killing people and taking their fat to use for sacrifice; second, slaughtering horses and also using their fat for sacrifice; third, the grand sacrifice; fourth, the universal sacrifice; fifth, the sacrifice according to one's desires.' These are all false, without any truth, merely exhausting oneself in vain, and increasing numerous evils.

Therefore, you should now carefully observe, for the benefit of the Dharma (Buddhist teachings), to cut off falsehood and seek truth, you should give your noble daughter to my son as a wife. If there is anything you seek, it will surely be fulfilled. You should quickly arrange the marriage, it should not be delayed.

At that time, Lianhuashi (Lotus Fruit, a name) heard these words and felt great joy, something he had never experienced before. He said to Dishengjia (Victorious Emperor, a name): 'Benevolent one, what you say is truly sincere and trustworthy. What kind of person were you in the past, possessing what kind of wisdom and eloquence, to be able to say such things? What practices have you cultivated, what merits have you made? For hundreds of thousands of kalpas, I was a Chakravartin (ideal universal ruler). Being born in such noble and wealthy families, during that time, I cultivated loving-kindness, compassion, meditation, and wisdom, widely transforming sentient beings, and performing Buddhist deeds.' Di Shengjia (name of a person) said, 'Virtuous one, listen carefully. I shall further explain the good and bad omens indicated by the movements of the constellations. If the moon is in the Pleiades (a constellation) on the day of birth, that person will have great fame and be respected by others. If the moon is in Aldebaran (a constellation), the person born will be wealthy and noble, praised by all. If the moon is in Orion's head (a constellation), the person born on that day will be fond of disputes, harbor resentment and malice. If the moon is in the constellation of Orion, conception on that day will lead to indulgence in food and drink, with an abundance of delicacies. If the moon is in the constellation of the Well, the person born on that day will have overflowing granaries and abundant livestock. If the moon is in the Ghost constellation, the person born will cultivate goodness. If the moon is in the Willow constellation, the person born will be lustful. If the moon is in the Seven Stars constellation, the person born will be honored and noble. If the moon is in the Zhang constellation, the person born will have a short life. If the moon is in the Wing constellation, the person born will uphold the precepts. If the moon is in the Zhen constellation, the person born will be deceitful and thieving. When the moon is in the Legs constellation (Kuisu), the patient will certainly suffer for twenty-eight days; one should offer incense and flowers to the deities. When the moon is in the Bond constellation (Lousu), the patient will certainly suffer for twenty-five days; offering barley porridge to the deities can bring recovery. I will now further explain the essentials of setting leap months. In nineteen years, there are a total of seven leap months. Approximately every five years, there are two leap months. From May to October, the sun gradually moves southward, the night increases by one 'fen' (a unit of time), and the day decreases by one 'fen'. From November to April, the sun gradually moves northward, the day increases by one 'fen', and the night decreases by one 'fen'. The waxing and waning of the moon's shape depend on the distance of the sun. The Sun, Moon, Yinghuo (Mars), Chenxing (Mercury), Suixing (Jupiter), Taibai (Venus), and Zhenxing (Saturn) are called the Seven Luminaries. Suixing (Jupiter) completes one cycle of the heavens in approximately twelve years. Zhenxing (Saturn) completes one cycle of the heavens in approximately twenty-eight years. At this time, Lian Hua Shi (Lotus Reality) told his disciples, 'The Dharma has no duality, all beings are equal. You should not give rise to arrogance now.' And told Di Shengjia (Di Shengjia).

The daughter at that time is now the Bhikkhunī Xìng (name of a Bhikkhunī). Because in past lives they were husband and wife, and their love had not ceased, she now still follows him. When this sutra was spoken, sixty monks were freed from defilements and attained Arhatship. The Brahmins (Hindu priests) obtained the pure Dharma eye. After the Buddha finished speaking this sutra, King Prasenajit (King of Kosala in ancient India) and the fourfold assembly joyfully practiced it.

This volume, page 3, line 20. The Danzang above the lunar mansion of the female star has a note saying: 'Missing the Ox mansion.' The collator says: The person who wrote this note never knew that the Western Regions only used twenty-seven lunar mansions. Whenever it says 'missing,' it means that it might exist but actually doesn't. Their version doesn't use it, and the sutra makes no sense. Why say 'missing'? For example, in the 'Shuhan Manjushri Stellar Scripture,' there are seven sections, repeatedly explaining the stellar mansions, and each section only has twenty-seven mansions without the Ox mansion. Jingfeng commented: The Tang Dynasty used twenty-eight mansions, but the Western countries removed the Ox mansion because their heavenly lord serves it. This is the proof.
