The Sutra of the Buddha on Prolonging Life by the Seven Stars of the Northern Dipper
A Brahmin monk brought this sutra to the Tang Dynasty to uphold and maintain it.
Those born in the year of the Rat (子) are born under this star. Their sustenance is millet. When there are calamities, one should make offerings to this sutra and wear the talisman of their natal star, which will bring great auspiciousness.
Those born in the years of the Ox (丑) and the Pig (亥) are both born under this star. Their sustenance is grain. When there are calamities, one should make offerings to this sutra and wear the talisman of their natal star, which will bring great auspiciousness.
Those born in the years of the Tiger (寅) and the Dog (戌) are both born under this star. Their sustenance is japonica rice. When there are calamities, one should make offerings to this sutra and wear the talisman of their natal star, which will bring great auspiciousness.
Those born in the years of the Rabbit (卯) and the Rooster (酉) are both born under this star. Their sustenance is small red beans. When there are calamities, one should make offerings to this sutra and wear the talisman of their natal star, which will bring great auspiciousness.
Those born in the years of the Dragon (辰) and the Monkey (申) are both born under this star. Their sustenance is hemp seeds. When there are calamities, one should make offerings to this sutra and wear the talisman of their natal star, which will bring great auspiciousness.
Those born in the years of the Snake (巳) and the Sheep (未) are both born under this star. Their sustenance is soybeans. When there are calamities, one should make offerings to this sutra and wear the talisman of their natal star, which will bring great auspiciousness.

Namo (Homage to) Tanlang Star (貪狼星), is the Tathagata (如來佛) named Unyielding Penetration of Intention in the Most Excellent World of the East.
Namo (Homage to) Jumen Star (巨門星), is the Tathagata (如來佛) named Light Sound Self-Mastery in the Wonderful Treasure World of the East.
Namo (Homage to) Lucun Star (祿存星), is the Tathagata (如來佛) named Golden Color Accomplishment in the Perfect World of the East.
Namo (Homage to) Wenqu Star (文曲星), is the Most Excellent Auspicious
來佛。
南無廉貞星。是東方凈住世界廣達智辨如來佛。
南無武曲星。是東方法意世界法海遊戲如來佛。
南無破軍星。是東方琉璃世界藥師琉璃光如來佛。
若遇行年災厄禮此經七拜。
爾時佛告文殊師利菩薩。所說此經。有大威神有大威力。能救一切眾生重罪能滅一切業障。若有比丘僧比丘。宰官居士善男子善女人。若貴若賤大小生命。皆屬北斗七星所管。若聞此經受持供養轉讀。勸于朋友親族骨肉受持者現世獲福後世得生天上。若善男子善女人。或先亡過者墮于地獄。或受種種苦楚。若聞此經信敬供養。即得先亡離於地獄。生於極樂世界 若有善男子善女人。或被鬼魅所侵邪魔所嬈。惡夢怪異魂魄驚恐。若聞此經受持供養。即得魂魄安寧。永無恐怖 若善男子善女人。或有仕官身役善發征行。若遇此經信敬供養。即得仕官高遷甚大吉 若善男子善女人。或是疾病纏身。欲求輕差。當於凈室燒香供養此經。疾病痊瘥 若善男子善女人。欲得進達及以出行經紀。求財稱遂興生貨賣。若遇此經信敬供養。即得求財稱遂出入大吉。若有善男子善女人。或養蠶虛耗六畜不安。即于凈室燒香供養此經。即得田蠶遂意六畜孳榮。永無損失亦無災障 若有女人懷胎難月。若遇此經信敬供養。即

【English Translation】 English version Homage to all Buddhas.
Namo Lian Zhen Star (one of the Big Dipper stars). He is the Guang Da Zhi Bian Tathagata Buddha of the Eastern Pure Abode World.
Namo Wu Qu Star (one of the Big Dipper stars). He is the Fa Hai You Xi Tathagata Buddha of the Eastern Fa Yi World.
Namo Po Jun Star (one of the Big Dipper stars). He is the Bhaisajyaguru Vaidurya Prabhasa Tathagata Buddha of the Eastern Vaidurya World.
If you encounter misfortune in the year, prostrate to this Sutra seven times.
At that time, the Buddha told Manjushri Bodhisattva: 'This Sutra that has been spoken has great divine power and great might. It can save all sentient beings from heavy sins and extinguish all karmic obstacles. If there are Bhikshus, Bhikshunis, officials, laypeople, good men, good women, whether noble or humble, whether young or old, their lives are all governed by the Seven Stars of the Big Dipper. If they hear this Sutra, receive, uphold, offer, recite, and encourage friends, relatives, and family members to receive and uphold it, they will obtain blessings in this life and be reborn in the heavens in the next life. If good men and good women, or deceased ancestors, have fallen into hell or are suffering various hardships, if they hear this Sutra and believe, respect, and offer to it, then the deceased ancestors will be liberated from hell and be reborn in the Land of Ultimate Bliss. If good men and good women are harassed by ghosts and demons, have nightmares, encounter strange events, or are frightened in their souls, if they hear this Sutra, receive, uphold, and offer to it, their souls will be peaceful and they will never be afraid. If good men and good women are serving as officials, in military service, or need to travel far, if they encounter this Sutra and believe, respect, and offer to it, they will have a successful career, be promoted smoothly, and have great good fortune. If good men and good women are afflicted with illness and wish to alleviate their suffering, they should burn incense and offer to this Sutra in a clean room, and their illness will be cured. If good men and good women wish to advance in their careers, have smooth travels, succeed in business and wealth, and have prosperous sales, if they encounter this Sutra and believe, respect, and offer to it, they will obtain wealth as desired and have safe and auspicious travels. If good men and good women have losses in silkworm farming or their livestock are uneasy, they should burn incense and offer to this Sutra in a clean room, and their fields and silkworms will be prosperous, their livestock will thrive, and they will never have losses or disasters. If a woman has a difficult pregnancy, if she encounters this Sutra and believes, respects, and offers to it, she will'
一得母子分解厄難消除。所生兒女。皆得端正長命果報 若善男子善女人。須知北斗七星管人生命。一生之中所有災厄。官事口舌釜鳴百怪。若遇此經信敬供養。一無妨害 爾時文殊師利言善男子善女人恭敬信受作禮而散。

【English Translation】 English version: It can resolve calamities and eliminate difficulties for mothers and children. The children born will all receive the reward of having upright features and a long life. If good men and good women know that the Big Dipper (Bei Dou Qi Xing) [seven stars of the Northern Dipper] governs people's lives, all disasters, lawsuits, gossips, pot-boiling omens, and strange occurrences in their lives will not cause any harm if they encounter this scripture, deeply believe in it, and respectfully make offerings to it. At that time, Manjushri (Wenshu Shili) [Bodhisattva of Wisdom] said: 'Good men and good women, respectfully believe and practice, pay homage, and then depart.'
The Buddha Speaks the Scripture on the Big Dipper's Seven Stars Prolonging Life (Fo Shuo Bei Dou Qi Xing Yan Ming Jing)
