【English Translation】 English version The Homa Ritual for the Big Dipper (also known as the Prosperous Light Ritual)

The Auspicious Mantra says:
Namo ratna-trayāya (obeisance to the Triple Gem) Namo sarva-graha-nakṣatra-rājāya jatudhipa-aloka-rāyad-tadyathā anumati-prati anumati sambhinna-khe śvāhā.
Big Dipper Mudra (hand gesture): The fire and space fingers of the left and right hands are intertwined and pressed together. The water fingers are joined and point forward. The earth and wind fingers are extended. This mudra is immediately formed (from the Atavaka Sutra, or so it is said in oral traditions).
The mantra says:
Om sapta-nām indriya bhiṣajyāya jambudvīpa mama (name) rakṣa bhavatu svāhā.
Sun Deity Mudra: First, join the palms. The tips of the four fingers below the wind finger touch each other. Open the front widely. Each space finger touches the side of the wind finger. The mantra says:
Namo ratna-trayāya Namo sūrya sarva-nakṣatra-rājāya Om amogha (name) śakti svāhā.
Moon Deity Mudra: The samadhi hand (left hand) has the fire and space fingers pressed together. The remaining fingers are upright, as if holding a lotus flower. The mantra says:
Om candra-nakṣatra-rājāya (name) śakti svāhā.
Southern Mars Mudra: Make a fist with the left hand and place it on the waist. The five fingers of the left and right hands are upright and touching each other. Bend the space fingers and tuck them into the palms.

The Northern Water Deity Mudra: Make a fist with the right hand and place it on the right side of the waist. Make a fist with the left hand, leaving the space empty and not touching the palm. The wind finger is straight and upright, with a slight bend at the middle joint. The mantra says:
Om Mudhana Nakshatra (meaning 'lunar mansion' or 'constellation') Svaha Minah (name/position) Khinu Ma Svaha
The Eastern Jupiter Mudra: Two hands in Vajra (diamond) clasp, with the two empty spaces upright. The mantra says:

The General Mudra of the Nine Luminaries: Genuinely join the palms together, with the two Anamika fingers aligned and standing upright, and the two Tarjani fingers (index fingers) extended and separated, moving back and forth. The general mantra says:
'Om graha Ishvara riya pratiruti maya svaha'
The General Mudra of the Twenty-Eight Constellations: Firmly join the palms together, with the two Anamika fingers aligned and standing upright, placing them at the heart center. Use the two Anamika fingers to summon. The general mantra says:
'Om naksatra ne sunayesvaha svaha'
The Mudra of All Deities: Make a fist with the right hand, with the tip of the middle finger slightly extended and bent, using this to summon. The mantra says:
'Om sarva narayanaya ehyeyehi am svaha'
The Longevity Mantra says: First recite it one thousand times.
'Om vajra yusve (name of person) svaha'
The Incense Offering Mudra: With the Wisdom Hand (left hand) facing outward, use the Samadhi Hand (right hand) to hold the wrist of the Wisdom Hand, placing it at the heart center. Thus, the mantra says:
'Om visuddha gandha-udbhava vasvaha ha'
The Flower Offering Mudra: Cross the inner sides of the two hands, open and raise them upwards, with the side tips of the two Tarjani fingers (index fingers) touching each other, placing the Anamika fingers next to the Tarjani fingers, and recite at the heart center. The mantra says:
'Om maha maitri bhyudgate svaha ha'
The Incense Burning Mudra: The backs of the six fingers below the middle fingers of the two hands are erected and touching each other, the two Tarjani fingers (index fingers) are extended to the sides, the side tips are not touching, slightly separated, and the two Anamika fingers (ring fingers) are placed next to the Angustha fingers (thumbs), placing them at the heart center. The mantra says:
'Om dharma-dha dhatva nudgate svaha ha'
The Food Offering Mudra: Hollowly join the two hands, open the palms upwards as if scooping, and recite at the heart center. The mantra says:
'Om arara karara malinadami malinandi mahamali svaha ha'

【English Translation】 English version: Lamp Illumination Mudra: With the wisdom hand, make a fist, using the tip of the space element to touch the fire element, face upwards, offering to the Big Dipper (北斗七星), the natal star (本命星), and the shining stars and fundamental stars (曜宿元辰), etc. The mantra says: Om, Tathagata-rocise-spharana-vabhasana-gagana-udaya svaha. Universal Offering Mudra: Vajra hand clasp, with the two index fingers [戚/豆] shaped like a jewel, and the thumbs upright. The mantra says: Om, Amogha-puja mani-padme vajre tathagata-vilokite samanta-prasara hum. Praise Mudra: Vajra hand clasp. A-yantu deva jaga sura kinnara nara rakshasa-gana-prahvara dharma-giri-ta-dhigara vi-dharma ca-prashama caukhye ni-me-ta bhuta me-ta prakasha-ya ta-ni hrasva-mana-ya dha am. Visualize seven 'ru' syllables in the brazier transforming into the Big Dipper, with the so-called natal star placed in the center, accompanied by six stars. Then, kneel and clasp your hands, facing the brazier, and say: With utmost sincerity, I invoke the seven stars of the North Pole, Tanlang (貪狼), Jumen (巨門), Lucun (祿存), Wenqu (文曲), Lianzhen (廉貞), Wuqu (武曲), and Pojun (破軍), the honored stars. For (so-and-so), may calamities be dispelled and lifespan extended, To see a hundred autumns. Now I perform the homa. I pray that the honored stars Descend to this place, accept the homa offering, erase the records of untimely death, And inscribe the registers of longevity, offering flowers as seats. 修此北斗七星護摩法者刊于死籍記長壽札神驗最明延命增算除災招富延命之法無如此者也。

爾時釋迦牟尼佛在凈居天宮告諸天宿曜十二宮神。我今說過去沙羅王如來真言。若有國王所居國界五星陵逼二十八宿及帝座每日晨朝于道場中結印誦此真言七遍。五星諸曜陵逼諸座不能為災害若火星欲入南鬥。應於一忿怒尊像下點南斗形及點火星於此中畫彼設睹嚕形(並)書名於心上即結印安印于忿怒像身上誦真言七遍。于娑嚩訶句上加彼設睹嚕名忿怒勵聲誦真言所有災禍移去。

修持這個北斗七星護摩法的人，名字可以從死亡名冊上刪除，記錄在長壽名冊上，非常靈驗，可以延長壽命、增加福祿、消除災難、招來財富。沒有比這個更好的延命方法了。

Visualize the Big Dipper stars coming to attend, then perform offerings, then throw flowers and perform the dispatch mudra. Humbly join palms, using both thumbs to press the fingernails of both ring fingers, bend the middle and little fingers into the shape of a lotus flower, slightly separate both index fingers and flick them outwards. Recite the mantra saying:

The person who practices this Big Dipper Homa method can have their name removed from the death register and recorded in the longevity register. At that time, Shakyamuni Buddha, in the Pure Abode Heaven, told the gods, constellations, and zodiac deities: 'I now speak the mantra of the Tathagata Shala King of the past. If a king's country is afflicted by the invasion of the five planets, the twenty-eight constellations, and the imperial seat, every morning in the mandala, form the mudra and recite this mantra seven times, the invasion of the five planets and constellations will not cause disaster. If Mars wants to enter the Southern Dipper, one should draw the shape of the Southern Dipper under an image of an angry deity, and also mark Mars, and within this draw the image of that enemy, and write their name on the heart, then form the mudra and place it on the body of the angry deity, reciting the mantra seven times. Add the name of that enemy to the phrase 'svaha', and recite the mantra with an angry voice, and all disasters will be transferred away.'

Its mudra (印相) is: the two hands interlocked inwards to form a fist, erect and merge the two middle fingers, each index finger bent and placed behind the middle finger, resembling the shape of a vajra (金剛杵), with the two thumbs each pressing the second joint of the middle finger. This mantra is blessed by all Tathagatas (如來), named the 'Flaming Majestic Buddha Crown Mantra'. It can accomplish eighty thousand auspicious events and eliminate eighty thousand kinds of disasters, inauspicious events, and bad dreams. If one sees or hears of any inauspicious events, reciting it once with a pure heart will prevent harm. If the five planets approach and oppress the constellations, either entering, passing through, or retrograding and invading, then add the name of that planet to the phrase 'Svaha (long a)', recite the mantra seven times, and command those five planets to be benevolent and unable to cause harm. If Mars (熒惑), Venus (太白), etc., reach the divisions of the constellations and the Emperor's seat, in the division of the constellations, as before, draw an evil figure below the image, which will also harm that person, preventing them from having malicious intentions. Or if Rahu (羅睺, the demon in Indian mythology) obscures the sun and moon, causing eclipses, or if a comet appears, or if there is drought or flood, then in a secluded place in the mandala (道場), wear black clothes, sit facing south, draw a triangular altar with burnt ashes, and write the shapes of Rahu (羅睺), comets, etc., in the center. In times of drought or flood, draw a dragon. Write the name of that person on their heart, burn benzoin incense at midnight and noon, recite the mantra, add that name in the phrase, and whip that figure with a pomegranate branch, reciting the mantra twenty-one times, one whip for each recitation, and it will be eliminated. If the five planets are oppressively strong and life is waning, this method should also be performed.

Completed copying at Toji-bo on March 27th, Kōan 2 (1362). The number of copies is uncertain. Later, a collation of the text should be done. Kaho (age 57). Copied from the book at Toji Kanchi-in on June 12th, Tenmei 2, Mizunoe-Tora year (1782). Pen laid down at the south cedar lodge of Chishaku-kyoin. Jininn (age 48). The Kanshuji Shingonshu states: 'The Homa Ritual for the Big Dipper Seven Stars was composed in one line.' Also, the Hokuto Shibiho (Big Dipper Tail-Pointing Method) cites this.
